Corpus Christi Police Officers were dispatched to a business at 13630 Northwest Blvd. for a subject refusing to leave. The officers contacted Mark Verastiqui (03-11-73) who was yelling vulgarities in front of customers and children. Officers detained him in a police unit and while seated in the back seat he head butted the cage in the unit causing a small gash on his upper forehead. He then began spitting blood all over the inside of the police car. The suspect made threats to kill the employees at the business and threatened to shoot the officers. CCFD EMS responded to the scene and he refused to let medics tend to his cut and he was transported to the hospital. There he still refused to let anyone treat the injury, and continued to scream vulgar insults at the officers and hospital personnel. A medical refusal was obtained and the suspect was booked at the City Detention Center for making the threats which is a Class B Misdemeanor, and disorderly conduct, a Class C misdemeanor, for yelling vulgarities that offended the business employees and the customers.

Corpus Christi Police responded to a residence in the 2700 block of Camargo Street for a burglary in progress. Upon arrival, the officers saw David Garcia (04/17/1980) coming out of the house and Geronimo Sanchez (11/03/1980) was sitting inside a vehicle that was full of property taken from the home. Mr. Garcia told officers that he lived at the home. When the 63 year old female homeowner arrived, she stated that Mr. Garcia had been legally evicted from the home last year, because he was pawning property that belonged to her. The victim stated that she would press charges on both men because she is tired of them stealing from her home. The investigation revealed that the suspects gained entry to the house through a back living room door and ransacked the home. Both suspects were also found to have guns in their possession. Mr. Garcia was booked on charges of burglary of a habitation, possession of marijuana, and unlawful carrying of a weapon, Mr. Sanchez was charged with burglary of a habitation and felon in possession of a firearm a third degree felony.

Corpus Christi Police responded to an assault call at an apartment complex in the 900 block of
South Navigation Blvd. The suspect, Billy Bisby (12-13-79) had assaulted a 34 year old victim, and left the area in a vehicle. After officers left the scene the suspect returned to the apartment kicked in the door and stole the victim’s purse. With officers assistance, the victim then left the apartment to stay at another location. Again, after everyone had left the apartment the suspect came back to the apartment and then began to call the victim on the phone over 10 times. He was leaving the area again in a vehicle when he was spotted by officers at the Interstate 37 and Navigation intersection. The suspect was arrested for the assault and theft for the purse which he still had in the car.

Offense: Driving While Intoxicated (PC 49.04 Class B Misdemeanor)

Several Corpus Christi Police units responded to a rollover crash on State Highway 358 West between Airline Road and Staples Street. Kristina Gonzalez (11-21-1987) was driving her 2004 Mazda Sedan when she lost control and struck the center median on the freeway causing her vehicle to roll over. Officers arrived and found the vehicle flipped over and resting on its passenger side. The driver was not pinned in the vehicle, but was unable to get out. CCFD EMS and Rescue units responded and they were able to stabilize the car and get her out with a ladder. During the investigation of the crash, officers found the driver to be intoxicated. She was taken to the hospital for treatment and there she consented to give a specimen of her blood. After being medically cleared and she was taken to the City Detention Center, and charged with Driving While Intoxicated.

Verbal Threat Leads to Arrest On Santa Gertrudis Drive

Offense: Aggravated Assault (PC 22.02 1st Degree Felony)

Corpus Christi Police Officers were dispatched to a residence in the 14700 block of Santa Gertrudis Drive for an assault involving a weapon. Officers arrived and found the suspect who was unarmed on the sidewalk in front of the residence. The 57 year old female victim who had left the location prior to police arrival returned to speak to officers at the scene. It was determined that she had taken a shotgun away from the suspect after he made verbal threats to kill her during the disturbance. The investigation revealed that no shots were fired and nobody was injured.  The suspect,  Phillip Newman, (01/22/1985) was arrested and transported to the City Detention Center for Aggravated Assault.

Corpus Christi Police Officers responded to a disturbance call in the 1100 block of Mendoza St.
The officers made contact with a 26 year old female who reported that she observed a white truck that was parked in the backyard of her property with a female in the driver`s seat. The female in the truck was described as being 45-55 years of age, about 5`3, 160 pounds, brown hair, brown eyes, and missing front teeth. The suspect female asked the reporting party to help her with switching the license plates on the truck. The suspect female appeared shaky and seemed nervous. The suspect claimed to have a second set of license plates that she wanted to put on the truck. The caller then contacted police and the suspect driver then got back into the truck and fled from the backyard in a hurry. Officers responding to the disturbance call saw the suspect vehicle as it was turning into a business at the corner of Horne Rd. and Columbia St. The officers were able to confirm that the truck was a stolen. The driver of the stolen truck saw the officers and fled the parking lot. The officers attempted to stop the vehicle and it refused to stop. When the suspect vehicle continued to evade police, the situation became unsafe so the officers discontinued the pursuit the vehicle and it was last seen on Baldwin Blvd. going toward the Crosstown Freeway.

Corpus Christi Police responded to the intersection of Brockhampton St. and Lipes Blvd. for a crash involving three vehicles. The investigation by officers determined that a 42 year old female driving a 2013 Nissan passenger car was traveling at a high rate of speed on Brockhampton St. when it crashed into another vehicle occupied by 60 year old male and his granddaughter that was stopped at the stop sign. That collision caused them to crash into a third vehicle driven by a 39 year old male. Officers believe that the female driver that caused the crash was possibly intoxicated. She was taken by ambulance to the hospital for injuries to her leg. After the female refused to provide a sample of her blood, a search warrant for her blood was obtained by officers. Due to the injuries sustained in the crash, the suspect female was released to the custody of the hospital for treatment. The two other drivers and the young passenger were not seriously injured.

Update on Hit and Run with Images of Supect Vehicle

Corpus Christi Police Officers were dispatched to Harmon St. and Mary St. for a hit and run crash involving a pedestrian. Upon arrival they observed a 56 year old female victim who appeared to have injuries to her hip and lower leg. Several witnesses stated a black truck was traveling west on Mary St. when it went through the four way stop sign at the intersection. The truck then stopped and began to reverse. The vehicle then backed into the victim as she was crossing the street. The truck then began to drive forward striking the victim again and dragging her under the vehicle several feet. The suspect is described as a male, 30-40 years of age, wearing a tan straw cowboy hat.  Images obtained from a nearby camera show a  the suspect driving a full size black Chevrolet truck, 2003 – 2006 year model, with chrome on the wheel wells, and chrome step sides. The vehicle is low with distinct chrome flaring on the fenders. The vehicle has a large nerf bars and appears to have a low profile tool box.  The truck was last seen traveling south on Harmon Street.  Anyone who can identify the individual responsible, or has any additional information about this crime should call the Corpus Christi Police Hit and Run Detectives at 886-2689. Suspect Grabs Lotto Tickets

On 05/02/2014, at about 10:15 PM, a black male, 30 to 40 years old, described as “hefty” wearing a white pullover shirt and blue jeans entered the Valero Store located at 5202 Interstate 37 Access Rd.  While the store clerk was busy with other customers the suspect reached over the counter and grabbed a stack of lottery tickets and left the store without paying for them.  An image of the suspect was obtained from the store video camera.  Anyone who can identify the individual responsible, or has any additional information about this crime should call the Corpus Christi Police Property Crimes Detectives at 886-2841. Man Acts As ATM Repairman To Steal Cash

LOCATION: 4302 South Alameda St. and 11201 Leopard St.
OFFENSE: Theft from a Building (PC 31.03 State Jail Felony)
CASE # 1404120142  and 1404170016

On 04/12/2014, at about 8:00 PM Corpus Christi Police Officers responded to 4302 S Alameda, The Stripes Store for a theft. The 32 year old store clerk told officers that a white male, 6`02“, 45-50 years of age, 200-215 lbs, wearing a black/white baseball cap, grey button up shirt and black pants, walked into the store and began servicing the ATM machine. She stated the suspect unlocked the ATM and used a combination to access the safe inside. The clerk became suspicious of the activity because no service was due on the ATM machine and she contacted the store manager. The manager attempted to speak to the suspect by phone; however the suspect took a cassette from inside the safe which contained money. The suspect then placed the cash inside a deposit bag and left the location in a blue Ford Mustang. The person involved in this case is also a possible suspect in another theft involving cash removed from an ATM at the The Stripes Store located at 11201 Leopard St. In this case, a white male wearing a green hooded shirt and jeans entered the store on April 16 at 8:37 PM. He walked toward the ATM, and is then seen walking out of the store with what appears to be the money from the ATM. Corpus Christi Police responded to a call for shots fired at Nandina Dr. and Mimosa Dr. Officers contacted a resident in the 900 block of Nandina Dr about half a block from the intersection where several spent shell casings were found. The resident said a bullet hit their window and ended up in a room inside the home on the carpet. No other bullet holes were located and it appears the house was struck by chance. The only suspect description was a SUV that was observed by witnesses leaving the area at the time the shots were heard.

Officers were dispatched to the 10000 block of Compton Road for a robbery. A 45-year-old female victim reported that she was confronted by a 34-year-old suspect, James Duvall (06/30/1979). The 45-year-old women reported to officers that Duvall pulled out a knife and demanded three dollars that he believed the victim owed him. Officers were speaking to witnesses when the suspect came walking up and Duvall was arrested for robbery, a first degree felony punishable by 99 years in prison and up to a $10,000 fine.

Offense: Poss. of a Controlled Substance (Health and Safety Code Section 481.118) Class B
Case Number: 1405070012
Officers conducting a bar check at 5413 South Staples found the manager of the bar was intoxicated. Rebecca Ramirez (01/25/1978) who stated she was the manager, displayed signs of being intoxicated while speaking to officers She was placed under arrest for TABC violation 104.01, Lewd Immoral/Indecent Conduct. Following the arrest, during a search of her property, officers found pills in her wallet not prescribed to her. Officers delivered Ramirez to the City Detention Center charging her with Possession of Controlled Substance and Lewd Immoral Indecent Conduct.

A 20-year-old woman reported an aggravated robbery at a fast food restaurant located at 10602 Interstate Highway 37 to the Corpus Christi Police Tuesday night. The 20-year-old woman told Officers a man and a woman entered the restaurant with masks that covered their faces and the man displayed a handgun. The 20-year-old woman told Officers the man demanded money from the register. The 20-year-old woman told Officers that she (the 20-year-old woman) and her 16-year-old co-worker ran from the store and were not injured. The two masked suspects left prior to law enforcement arrival and the 20-year-old woman told Officers she did not believe anything was taken by the suspects.

Corpus Christi Police arrested 20-year-old Frank Barrientes (12/14/1993) for stealing a box of condoms from a convenience store at 3002 McKinzie Road Wednesday morning. A 44-year-old store clerk reported a theft and explained to Officers that a man took a box of condoms valued at under $5 dollars and the man got into a white Nissan Sentra and left without paying for the merchandise. The 44-year-old man provided the license plate number to Officers. The Officers went to the registered address and found the Sentra. Officers contacted Barrientes and discovered evidence of the crime and learned Barrientes had a warrant for his arrest for burglary. Officers arrested Barrientes and delivered him to the city detention center.

Offense: Possession of Marijuana (Health and Safety Code Section 481.121) State Jail Felony
Case Number: 1404280175

Corpus Christi Police arrested 26-year-old Hector Gutierrez (9/7/1987) for possession of 3.5 pounds of marijuana Monday on the 2800 block of Santa Fe Street. A Corpus Christi Police Officer conducted speed enforcement at about 9pm Monday night. The Officer conducted a traffic stop when he saw a black 1995 Acura Integra travel faster that the posted speed limit. The Integra fled from the Officer, but once stopped, the Officer arrested the driver, Gutierrez for evading arrest and for operating a vehicle as an unlicensed driver. The Officer discovered 3.5 pounds of marijuana in the vehicle and Gutierrez was additionally charged. The Officer delivered Gutierrez to the city detention center and impounded the vehicle.

A 23-year-old pedestrian was struck by a vehicle in the intersection of Leopard Street and Navigation Boulevard Tuesday night. The 23-year-old man pushed a disabled black 2000 Honda Accord north on Navigation Boulevard through the intersection with Leopard Street at 8:22pm. A black Chevrolet Camaro operated by a 27-year-old man traveled east on Leopard Street and struck the Accord and the 23-year-old man. The 23-year-old man was transported to the hospital by ambulance for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. No citations were issued and no other injuries were reported.

Man Steals $3,000 Worth of Electronics From Store, Sought by Police

The Corpus Christi Police would like help from the public to identify and locate a man accused of theft from a store located at 3829 Highway 77 on March 19, 2014. A 30-year-old man reported the theft to the Corpus Christi Police Department and explained that an unknown man went to the electronics section of the store, took seven ipads with a total value of over $3,100 dollars from the case, concealed the electronics, and walked out of the store without paying for the merchandise. The 30-year-old man provided an image of the man who took the electronics and Detectives would like help from the public to identify this man. The man is described as a 30-year-old male with medium brown skin, 5 feet 8 inches tall, about 170 pounds, and wore all black with a Houston Texans ball cap and he had a tattoo on the right side of his neck and a tattoo below his left eye.

Workers Discover Human Remains in Agnes Street Business

Corpus Christi Police are investigating a discovery of human remains at a garbage collection business at 4414 Agnes Street Tuesday morning. An employee discovered the human remains at the business among trash and called for emergency services at 6:38am. Emergency Medical Services determined the human remains were a deceased person and the Corpus Christi Police responded with an investigation to determine the circumstances of the person’s death. The Corpus Christi Police Forensics Lab Technicians responded to document and photograph the physical evidence, the Robbery/Homicide Detectives responded to collect information and determine if this is a product of a criminal action or if this was accidental, and the Nueces County Medical Examiner’s Office responded to collect the remains and determine the cause of death.

Update:

The Corpus Christi Police Robbery/Homicide Detectives determined the human remains are a 41 year old female. Detectives continue to investigate to determine where the woman was collected and if this is the product of a criminal action. The Nueces County Medical Examiner’s Office has collected the 41 year old woman and will conduct an examination to determine the cause of death and notify the next of kin.
