Patrol Report April 7, 2014

“Adam” District

Location: 10300 River Run Boulevard

Offense: Warrant of Arrest (Code of Criminal Procedure Section 15.01)

Case Number: 1404070018

Corpus Christi Police arrested 39-year-old Santiago Perez (10/30/1974) for a warrant for his arrest and for driving while his license was invalid at the 10300 block of River Run Boulevard Monday morning. A Corpus Christi Police Officer saw a silver 2010 Volkswagen Touran travel the wrong direction on a one way street on the access road of Interstate Highway 37 at 2:50am. The Officer conducted a traffic stop and discovered the driver, Santiago Perez, had a Municipal Court warrant for his arrest for possession of drug paraphernalia. The Officer also discovered Perez did not have a valid driver’s license as it had been suspended six times since November 2005. The Officer arrested Perez and delivered him to the city detention center.

Corpus Christi Police arrested 32-year-old Isabel Vasquez (10/25/1981) for possession of a controlled substance at an apartment public area located at 9320 South Padre Island Drive Monday morning. A Corpus Christi Police Officer conducted patrols through the apartment complex in response to recent burglaries to coin operated machines in which a woman had been viewed on video as the suspect in the crimes. The Officer saw Vasquez at the laundry room at 3:00am and stopped her to investigate. The Officer discovered the woman does not reside at the apartment complex and did not know any person who did live nearby. The Officer discovered contraband with Vasquez that the Officer believed to be methamphetamines and he arrested Vasquez for possession of a controlled substance. The Officer then delivered Vasquez to the city detention center.

Corpus Christi Police arrested 24-year-old Jose Longoria (6/2/1989) for possession of a controlled substance in a parking lot located at 4501 Weber Road Sunday night. Corpus Christi Police responded to a call for a person in need of medical attention in a parked black 2006 Jeep Liberty at 11:07pm. Officers arrived and found 24-year-old Jose Longoria disoriented. Officers and medics determined Longoria did not have a medical complaint, but was under the influence of narcotics. Officers found contraband which the Officers believed to be heroin, crack-cocaine, and medication not prescribed to Longoria and so the Officers arrested Longoria for possession of a controlled substance. The Officers impounded the Jeep and delivered Longoria to the city detention center.

Corpus Christi Police arrested 35-year-old Daniel Williams (9/21/1978) for burglary of a building and a warrant for his arrested after he broke into a medical building located at 3643 South Staples Street Sunday night. Corpus Christi Police responded to an alarm at the building and discovered a broken door. The Officers used the Patrol K9, Kimbo, to search the building and locate Daniel Williams inside. Williams was arrested for burglary and for a warrant for his arrest for criminal mischief. Officers then delivered Williams to the city detention center.

Offense: Theft of Metal (Penal Code Section 31.03) 3rd Degree Felony

Corpus Christi Police arrested two men Sunday night for theft of metal and other charges at 4520 Crosstown. A 70-year-old man called in a complaint of a theft in progress at 7:45pm Sunday night. Corpus Christi Police saw 45-year-old Raymond Dubberke (11/10/1968) and 43-year-old James Murray (1/11/1971) by the air conditioner system. Dubberke ran from the Officer by was captured by a second Officer. The Officers learned the two men cut wires to eight air conditioner units which caused over $25,000 dollars worth of damage. Dubberke was arrested for theft, tampering with evidence, and for evading arrest. Murray was arrested for the theft at the Officers delivered the two men to the city detention center.

Bank Employees Deny Robber of His Loot

Corpus Christi Police responded to a bank robbery complaint at 4462 Ayers Street at 2:48pm Friday. The bank employees explained to responding Officers that a man who wore a mask to cover his face attempted to enter the bank, but the employees denied the man entry into the building. Witnesses told Officers the man entered a first set of doors to the bank into a foyer, and then reached a second set of doors to go from the foyer to the bank lobby, but the second set of doors were locked by the time he pulled on the handle. Witnesses described the man to Officers as a man who wore a hat, sunglasses, a medical bandage around his face as a mask, and a beige coat. Officers learned no person was injured and the man did not take anything. Witnesses told Officers the man left the bank and was last seen running east on Gollihar before law enforcement arrived.

Woman Steals Money From 20 Kiosks In The Mall

Corpus Christi Police Property Crimes Detectives would like help from the public to identify and locate a woman who broke into 20 kiosks in the mall and stole money on Monday, March 31, 2014 between 6:50am and 7:30am. The Corpus Christi Police Officers who responded to the complaint learned that a woman broke into the kiosks while the mall was open for “mall walkers,” but the stores were closed. Corpus Christi Police Detectives obtained the surveillance video in which the woman walks from one kiosk to the other and commits the criminal mischief and theft. The woman met up with a man outside the mall and walked away.

The woman is described as a female with medium brown skin, about 30 years of age, about 5 feet 6 inches tall, about 180 pounds, has brown hair and wore a black jacket, dark shirt, denim pants, tennis shows and carried a yellow plastic bag. Corpus Christi Police arrested 23-year-old Gilbert Gomez (12/10/1990) for aggravated assault after a fight on the 4800 block of Johnston Drive Thursday night. A 21-year-old man reported the aggravated assault at 12:15am Thursday morning to the Corpus Christi Police. The 21-year-old man suffered several cuts and was taken to the hospital for treatment. Officers learned the injuries to the 21-year-old man were not life threatening. Witnesses told Officers that several people visited with the 21-year-old man and a fight erupted and the 21-year-old man told Officers he was stabbed by a knife. The 21-year-old man told Officers he knew his attacker and the Officers searched for and arrested 23-year-old Gilbert Gomez for aggravated assault. Officers then delivered Gomez to the city detention center.

A 57-year-old man reported a theft at the 5400 block of Rogerio Street to Corpus Christi Police Wednesday morning. The 57-year-old man told Officers some unknown person stole two tires from his vehicles which were parked in his driveway overnight. The 57-year-old man estimated the total value of the tires at about $400 dollars.

Police Investigate 7th Homicide of 2014

The Corpus Christi Police Robbery/Homicide Detectives are investigating the 7th Homicide of 2014 at 4322 Kostoryz Thursday. Corpus Christi Police went to an apartment to conduct a welfare check of a 50-year-old woman at 10:00am at the request of the Nueces County Sheriff’s Office. Corpus Christi Police discovered the 50-year-old woman was deceased and had injuries to merit a homicide investigation.

Corpus Christi Police have detained a man and are exploring information and evidence to determine if that man is responsible for the injuries to the woman. Detectives continue to investigate and ask anyone from the public who may have any information about this murder to call the Corpus Christi Police Robbery/Homicide Detectives at 886-2841.

Corpus Christi Police Suffered Gunshots Investigating Suspicious Person Complaint

Offense: Attempted Capital Murder (Penal Code Section 19.03)

Thursday, March 20, 2014, at 12:14pm, two Corpus Christi Police Officers where shot after making contact with a suspicious suspect. The Officers were at Congressional and Pebble Beach located in the Charlie District during the incident.

The suspect shot one Officer in the leg and shot the second Officer in the leg and neck/shoulder area. Officers returned fire and struck the suspect in the chest. The suspect then got into a Police Tahoe and left the area crashing into a pole at Everhart @ Congressional where he was taken into custody.

At last update the Officers were in stable condition with non life threatening injuries. The suspect was in critical condition. All were being attended by medical staff.

Chief Simpson has identified the two Officers who suffered gunshots today as 55 year old Michael Goodman (23 years on the Corpus Christi Police Department) and 42 year old Amador Gonzalez (19 years with the Corpus Christi Police Department). We pray for thier quick recovery.

Underage Consumption of Alcohol Disrupted by Crime Stoppers

Corpus Christi Police interrupted a party with consumption of alcoholic beverages by minors Wednesday morning on the 4000 block of Key West. The Corpus Christi Police Department received a complaint from Crime Stoppers in which an anonymous person reported as many as 200 minors at a house party on the 4000 block of Key West Drive. Corpus Christi Police found an intoxicated 16-year-old boy who hosted the party while his parents were out of town. Officers had Corpus Christi Fire Department medical technicians conduct a medical evaluation of the 16-year-old boy to determine if he had a medical condition or if his condition was the result of alcohol consumption. The 16-year-old boy was issued a citation and released to other family members at a different residence in Corpus Christi. All other participants in the party fled from the house and were not apprehended by Officers.

Corpus Christi Crime Stoppers has a project for the month of March, 2014, in which a person will be paid $250 dollars cash for each event of consumption of alcohol by minors reported to Crime Stoppers which results in law enforcement action. The Corpus Christi Police Property Crimes Detectives would like help from the public to identify a man who stole lottery tickets from a store located at 3201 South Padre Island Drive on January 31, 2014. Detectives have video images of the man and his vehicle. A 21-year-old man generated the complaint after a man went through the store at 4:00am and went into the back store room and then stole the lottery tickets. The tickets were not activated, so they have no real value. The man then left in a silver four door sedan. The man is described as a male with medium brown skin, about 5 feet 8 inches tall, 220 pounds, with dark hair, full beard, and wore a black t-shirt with white writing, blue jean shorts, and white tennis shoes.

Police Capture Two Men After Standoff

Corpus Christi Police arrested 23-year-old Julian Rodriguez (12/15/1990) and 32-year-old Jesus Rodriguez (4/12/1981) for aggravated assault at an apartment complex located at 4625 Kostoryz Road Wednesday night.

Corpus Christi Police responded to a disturbance at 6:31pm. A 47-year-old woman and a 17-year-old woman complained to the Officers that Jesus Rodriguez displayed a shotgun while Julian Rodriguez displayed a club. The 47-year-old woman told Officers the shotgun was discharged while she ran away. No injuries or property damage were reported. Officers went to contact Julian and Jesus Rodriguez, but they refused to meet with Officers.

The Special Weapons And Tactics Team were summoned to assist and after a period of time, Julian and Jesus Rodriguez surrendered and were safely arrested. Julian Rodriguez additionally had a warrant for his arrest out of Nueces County for Contempt of Court. Officers delivered Julian and Jesus Rodriguez to the city detention center. Additional charges could follow as the investigation continues.

Police Investigate Shooting That Kills Two Children

The Corpus Christi Police are investigating the death of two children on the 4700 block of Cheryl Drive Sunday night. Corpus Christi Police responded to a call of a shooting at 11:19 p.m. and discovered a 2 year old girl and a 6 year old child had suffered injuries which the Officers believe to be gunshot wounds. The children were taken to the hospital, but died as a result of their injuries.

Corpus Christi Police Robbery/Homicide Detectives responded to the scene to gather information and evidence. The Corpus Christi Police Gang Unit responded to assist with the investigation as a resource, although the event has no current conclusive evidence whether or not it is related to gang activity. No suspects have been arrested and Detectives are working to develop a description of the person responsible for the two deaths.

UPDATE 2/18/2014 9:57 a.m.
a. Detectives have indicated that they are looking into the possibility of more than one shooter based on the number of rounds fired.
b. The family was gathered at the home because they were attending a birthday party.
c. The two victims were related and are thought to be cousins.
