Police Catch Murder Suspect On Traffic Stop

                Corpus Christi Police arrested a 42-year-old man for a murder warrant on a traffic stop at the intersection of Holly and Carroll Lane Thursday afternoon.

Corpus Christi Police Officers searched for a red Ford F350 Thursday as a suspect vehicle to a crime reported Thursday morning. A Corpus Christi Police Officer conducted a traffic stop on a red 1999 Ford F350 on Carroll Lane at Holly Road. The 42-year-old driver, Brian Edwards (5/25/1970) ran from the traffic stop. The officer caught Edwards a short distance away and brought him back to the patrol car. The officer conducted a warrants check on Edwards and discovered there was an arrest warrant for Edwards for the charge of murder in Corpus Christi. The murder warrant was in relation to the shooting death on February 11, 2013 on Morgan Avenue.

Edwards was arrested for Possession of Prohibited Weapons (a Class A Misdemeanor), Unlawful Possession of a Firearm by a Felon (A 3rd Degree Felony), Possession of a Controlled Substance (a State Jail Felony), Evading Arrest (a Class A Misdemeanor), and for the murder warrant.

A woman passenger was briefly detained and released. The truck was impounded and Corpus Christi Police Detectives continue to investigate.

Officer Catches Three Fleeing Burglars

Senior Officers J. Smith and J. Alejandro responded to a residence in the 4900 block of Monitor for a burglary in progress. The homeowner told the police dispatcher several males had burglarized his home and he last saw them jumping the fence and running towards Monitor Street.

Officer Alejandro talked to the complainant, while Officer Smith searched the area.   Officer Smith located the three men as they walked westbound in the 3700 block of S. Padre Island Drive. One of the men, Vinson Joe Landa (11/14/94) was carrying a weed eater.  Landa along with Elias Rodriguez (05/10/95) and John David Garcia (01/03/94) were arrested.

All three were booked at City Detention Center and charged with Burglary of a Habitation which is punishable by up to 20 years in prison and a $10,000 fine.  The weed eater valued at $270 was returned to the victim.

Shots Fired at CCPD Substation

Early this morning Officers at the Saratoga Substation noticed a bullet hole in one of the restrooms on the first floor. Forensics was called and that a bullet had entered the building on the North side near the staircase. A second bullet hole was located on the second floor wall and entered the building as well, lodging in the bathroom wall.   Police were able to determine the rounds were fired from either State Highway 286 or the access road.

This is to have occurred sometime in the early morning as Officers did not notice the bullet holes until 6:30am. No other vehicles or buildings were damaged. Most importantly, no one was injured.

At this time it is unknown whether the bullets were from an errant shot or that the building was an actual target. The case has been assigned to a Detective and will be closely looked at, in hopes of finding those who may be responsible.

Police Arrest Two Men For Graffiti On Holly Road

Two men were arrested Sunday night on the 4000 block of Holly Road for causing an estimated $2,000 dollars worth of damage by graffiti.

A Corpus Christi Police Patrol Officer saw two men walk toward a business at the 4000 block of Holly near Weber Road. The officer is aware of a problem with graffiti in the area and chose to park his patrol car and follow the two men behind the business.

The officer saw the two men in the process of marking graffiti on the business and a dumpster. The Patrol Officer grabbed the two men and placed them under arrest for graffiti. Seventeen year old Raymond Cardona (10/22/1995) and Seventeen year old Gabriel Cramberg (11/22/1995) were arrested for graffiti, a Class A Misdemeanor punishable by up to a year in jail and up to a $4,000 fine.

Corpus Christi Police Patrol Officers drove Holly Road and found other graffiti that they connected to Cramberg and Cardona. Cardona and Cramberg were then delivered to the city detention center.

Police Begin Death Investigation On Bentwood Lane

The Corpus Christi Police Department has begun an investigation that they are treating as a homicide at 3814 Bentwood Lane after a deceased person was found in a shallow grave in the back yard of that home.

The Corpus Christi Police Department was called by a San Antonio man on Monday, February 4, 2013 at 5:50pm to request a welfare check on a 77-year-old woman. The responding Patrol Officers received no answer at the door, and the woman’s vehicle and personal items were at the residence.

Investigating officers were provided information that a 27-year-old man lived in the home with the woman and they began a search for the man and the 77-year-old woman. The 27-year-old man, David Christy (2/13/1985) was found near the 6400 block of Weber Road at 8:30pm.

Christy ran and fought with police and then was arrested for Assault on a Public Servant, Evading Arrest, and Resisting Arrest, search or Transport. One patrol officer received a minor hand injury during the arrest.

Corpus Christi Police Detectives applied for a search warrant for the home on Bentwood and discovered a shallow grave in the back yard. The grave contained human remains which were collected by the Nueces County Medical Examiner’s Office and have not yet been identified.

Police Search for 77 Year Old Woman From Bentwood Drive

Corpus Christi Police are searching for a 77-year-old woman from a home on the 3800 block of Bentwood Drive Monday night.
A San Antonio man called the Corpus Christi Police Department at 5:49pm Monday afternoon after he was unable to contact his 77-year-old mother. Corpus Christi Police Officers checked the woman’s home less than 10 minutes after having received the welfare concern call by the San Antonio man. The officers saw the woman’s vehicle in the driveway and her cane inside the car. The information provided to police officers was that the 77-year-old woman was not able to walk without the use of her cane and the car was her only mode of transportation.
There was no answer at the door. Police Officers were given information that the 77-year-old woman’s 27-year-old grandson resided at the house with her. Officers searched for the 27-year-old man until he was found at the 6000 block of Weber Road at 8:30pm. The 27-year-old man ran from police, but was detained by police officers.
Corpus Christi Police Detectives have applied for a search warrant to enter the house to search for clues to locate the 77-year-old woman. The 77-year-old woman is Johanna Christy and Corpus Christi Police would like any information the any person may have which may locate Christy. Store Employee Uninjured During Robbery

Officers were dispatched to the EZ Money in Moore Plaza for a hold up alarm.  Once Officers arrived they were informed the loan company had been robbed.

A 26-year-old store employee told Officers an armed man entered the store and pointed a handgun at her demanding she hand over the money.  The man walked out of the business with an undetermined amount of money.

The suspect is described as a White male, 30 to 40 years of age, 5’10” to 5’11” feet tall and weighing 160 to 180 lbs.   He was last seen wearing a long-sleeved plaid shirt, blue jeans, and dirty shoes.  The suspect’s face was covered with a bandanna and a baseball cap.

Auto Burglar Found Snoring Away

Officers M. Smotherman and S. Gonzalez were dispatched to the 3800 block of Wasserman for an individual passed out in a front lawn.  When they arrived, they found Avery Rankin (11/22/89) passed out in the front yard of Herndon at Wasserman. A make-up bag and a vehicle owner’s manual was laying next to him.  A camera was also found on his person.

Rankin appeared to be very intoxicated and arrested. The owner’s manual returned to a home in the 4000 block of Brawner Parkway. Officers were able to talk to the homeowner who identified the paperwork  and owner’s manual which had been stolen from his vehicle.  Avery was arrested and charged with Public Intoxication and Burglary to a Vehicle.

Officers did report finding additional stolen property and Detectives are in the process of identifying the victims.

Police Seek Bank Robber on Weber Rd.

               Corpus Christi Police are investigating a bank robbery which happened at 5875 Weber Road Saturday morning.

A man walked into the bank at about 9:20 in the morning, threw a bag onto the counter in front of a teller, and demanded money. The man did not present a weapon and no person was injured. The teller complied with the demand and the man left into an apartment complex located south of the bank.

Police are looking for a man, about 20 years in age, who stands between 5 ft. 2 inches to 5 ft. 6 inches tall, and wore a heavy gray jacket, white hat, black sweat pants, and white shoes.

Corpus Christi Police Property Crimes Detectives are asking the public’s assistance in helping identify the suspects involved in a couple of thousand dollars worth of damage to the T-Mobile store.  Two individuals dressed in black clothing can be seen prying open the store and rummaging through the business.
