Local Man Arrested in La Salle County Vehicular and Intoxication Manslaughter Investigation

Officers looking for a wanted subject checked a couple of locations on Carlton Street and were able to locate a female with several outstanding warrants.

The wanted suspect’s mother told Officers he was home and allowed Officers inside.  Angel Lopez Guerrero (12/10/81) was arrested and booked at the City Detention Center.

Guerrero was charged with three outstanding warrants out of La Salle County for Vehicular Manslaughter, Failure to Stop and Render Aid, and Intoxication Manslaughter.

Marijuana Aroma Gives Suspect Away During Traffic Stop

Officers pulled over a brown 1998 Chevrolet Suburban for a couple of traffic violations when the odor of Marijuana could be smelled from the vehicle.

Further investigation revealed the driver Michael Garza (06/05/78) had a metal box with several ounces of Marijuana in it along with some Zanax pills.

Garza was arrested and charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance, Possession of Marijuana, and Possession Drug Paraphernalia.

The Possession of a Possession of Marijuana is punishable by up to two years, but not less than 180 days in jail and punishable by a fine up to $10,000, while the Possession of Controlled Substance is a Class “A” Misdemeanor punishable by up to 1 year in jail and up to a $4,000 fine.  The Possession of Drug Paraphernalia is a Class “C” Misdemeanor which is punishable up to $500.

Jingle Jangle of Tools Replaced by the Clinking of Handcuffs

A witness reported to Officers he was at the O’Reilly Auto Parts when he was approached by a Hispanic male who was complaining how expensive tools were.  The witness engaged in conversation with the male, but could hear what he believed to be tools inside the man’s pant leg.  The male left the store without paying for the items. 

The male was located at the Park Apartments where he was found to be in possession of multiple tools.  Leonardo Benavidez (08/26/70) was arrested for the theft of tools valued at $195. 

Benavidez’s Class “B” Theft charge was upgraded to a State Jail Felony when it was discovered he had two or more previous convictions for Theft.  He was booked at the City Detention Center and the recovered tools returned to O’Reilly Auto Parts employee.

Hit and Run Suspect Arrested

Officers working a Hit and Run in which a white 2000 Mitsubishi Galant and a maroon 2005 Chevrolet Avalanche pick-up truck were both traveling eastbound on 5100 Holly Road.  The driver of the Galant who was traveling at a high rate of speed attempted to pass the Avalanche when the driver lost control and struck the pick-up truck.  The three occupants in the Avalanche were uninjured.

The driver Joshua Pantoja (02/08/92) fled and was found in the area of 5100 Wooldridge Road where he ran from the Officer.  A foot pursuit ensued through the neighborhood and Pantoja was caught in the 5000 block of Cascade with the assistance of citizen on a bicycle.

Pantoja was medically cleared and arrested.  He was charged with Evading Arrest and cited for Failure to Control Speed, Failure to Remain and Report an Accident, along with Failure to Maintain Financial Responsibility.

Local Woman Arrested For Organized Retail Theft

A 54-year-old woman was arrested Wednesday at her place of business for Organized Retail Theft.

The Corpus Christi Police Department was made aware on March 9, 2012 that food was routinely stolen from area grocers and then sold to a local retail shop. Police investigators discovered the stolen food was then sold from the retail shop for public consumption.

Police Property Crimes Investigators assisted by HEB Loss Prevention conducted an undercover operation which confirmed the stolen food was sold to Norma’s Fruits and Delights. The Police Investigators then obtained a warrant for arrest for 54-year-old Norma Palacios (8/10/1957). Palacios was arrested at her business on April 11, 2012 and delivered to the city detention center. The Corpus Christi-Nueces County Public Health District were on scene to inspect the business after the arrest.

Palacios is recorded to have received between $500 and $1,500 worth of stolen food that was sold for public consumption. Officers recovered $2,715 worth of stolen meat products when Palacios was arrested. The charge is a State Jail Felony punishable by up to 2 years in prison and up to a $10,000 fine.

Officers contacted Capital One Bank employees who reported  a White male handed a bank teller a note demanding money.  The teller fearing for her safety handed the robber an undetermined amount of money.

The suspect is described as a light skinned White male with a dirty blond mustache.  He was last seen wearing a dark-colored tee-shirt,khaki-colored cap, and sunglasses.   He was last seen on Weber headed towards Gollihar in a white four door vehicle, possibly a Chevrolet.

Bank Robbery On The 4000 Block Of Weber Road

Occurred Monday, April 9, 2012, 11:30am, Robbery, 4000 Weber Rd. 1204090064

Hamilin Middle School and Robert Wilson School were locked down after a bank robbery at the 4000 block of Weber Rd. Monday morning.

A white man about six feet tall with a dirty blonde mustache that wore a baseball cap, black framed sunglasses, a black t-shirt and dirty light blue jeans entered the bank and handed a demand note to the bank teller. No weapon was displayed and the man left the bank with money from the bank. No person was injured in this event.

Two Apprehended In A Stolen Car After They Were Caught Stealing From Cars In Mall Parking Lot

A 21-year-old man and a 16-year-old juvenile male were apprehended Saturday after they broke into several vehicles at the La Palmera Mall and then were located by police in a stolen car.

Corpus Christi Police responded to several complaints of burglaries to motor vehicle at the La Palmera Mall. A witness provided the license plate number and a description of a green Ford Mustang that was used by the thieves to leave the mall.

Patrol Officer Mike Garcia located the Mustang when the vehicle pulled into the Four Winds Apartments and the operator fled on foot. Senior Officer Garcia caught the operator, 21-year-old Juan Gonzalez (9/19/1991).

The patrol dog was used to locate the juvenile that ran from the Mustang. The juvenile was taken to the Nueces County Juvenile Justice Center and Gonzalez was taken to the City Detention Center.

The Mustang was reported stolen from Corpus Christi and was taken to the city impound to be processed by the forensics lab technicians for evidence.

Police Search For Bank Robbery Suspect

Corpus Christi Police are looking for a man that robbed a bank at the 5200 block of South Padre Island Drive Thursday afternoon.

Corpus Christi Police were called to a bank at the 5200 block of S.P.I.D. at about 4:15 pm in reference to money that was taken by force from employees. Police were told there were no injuries and now the police are searching for a white male about 30 years of age that wore a blue and white plaid shirt with blue jeans and had a stubble beard.

26 Year Old Man Seriously Injured After A Vehicle Crash On Weber

A 26-year-old man was hospitalized as a result of a crash at the intersection of Weber and McArdle Thursday morning.

A Corpus Christi Police Officer saw a silver 2011 Chevy Malibu travel north on Weber from Holly at a high rate of speed. The officer was outside of the patrol car when his attention was attracted to the Malibu because the horn sounded, and the tires squealed. The officer attempted to catch up to the Malibu and saw the Malibu attempt to turn left to travel west on McArdle, and the Malibu crashed.

The 26-year-old operator of the Malibu did not wear a seat belt and was transported to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. A 26-year-old passenger in the Malibu did wear a seat belt and was taken to the hospital for treatment of injuries as a result of the crash.

An offense report was generated for intoxication assault because the passenger was injured as a result of the crash and Corpus Christi Police collected evidence that this was an alcohol related event. Intoxication Assault is a 3rd degree felony punishable by up to 10 years in prison and up to a $10,000 fine.
