Officers responded to First Cash Pawn and contacted two female employees who reported they were exiting the pawnshop when they were confronted by two males and forced to return inside at gunpoint. During the robbery, the store manager was struck in the head with a firearm, while the other employee was kicked in the head. They received minor injuries which were treated at the scene by CCFD emergency personnel. The suspects fled with an assortment of jewelry. The first suspect is described as a Hispanic male, 5’3” feet tall, 20 to 25 years of age, and weighing 160 lbs. He was last seen wearing a black t-shirt, blue shorts, black baseball cap, and a mask. The second suspect is a light skinned Hispanic male, 20 to 25 years of age, 5’10” to 6’ feet tall, 160 lbs. He was last seen wearing a blue shirt, blue jeans, and a white baseball cap. Corpus Christi Family Violence Detectives and Safe Streets Task Force Officers worked together to secure arrest and search warrants for a local gang member. The Corpus Christi Police Department working in conjunction with the Federal Bureau of Investigation arrested Ira Marshall Goodwin (10/20/44) during a traffic stop. A search warrant was also served at 3522 Carbon Plant Road. Goodwin was arrested and booked at the City Detention Center on August 17, 2011. He was charged with an outstanding Nueces County Warrant for Aggravated Sexual Assault of a Child. His bond was set at $150,000.

An Officer patrolling his beat observed the victim leaning against the fence, his face and upper body covered in blood. The victim told the Officers several Black males drove up next to him in an older model purple Chevrolet Impala with chrome rims, exited the vehicle and assaulted him when he was unable to communicate with them. The males punched and kicked the victim until he fell to the ground. The suspects took the victim’s money from his pocket and fled northbound on S. Port Avenue. The victim sustained a laceration to the right temple along with facial injuries. He refused transport to the hospital for medical treatment. The driver of the Impala is described as a Black male, 25 to 30 years of age, and long black hair. He was last seen dressed in black. The other two suspects’ were also described as 25 to 30-year-old Black males. One was last seen wearing a red and black shirt, while the other was wearing a white tee-shirt. Officers contacted the 53-year-old victim who reported two males followed him from the ACE check cashing store to the H.E.B. in Moore Plaza. The victim told Officers one of the males asked for a cigarette as he waited for a cab at the H.E.B. exit area. When the cab arrived, the suspect shoved the victim into the cab, pinned him down, and took his money from his pocket. The suspect then fled on foot. The victim and a 26-year-old bystander chased the suspect. The bystander caught up to suspect at the Vitamin Shop and recovered most of the money stolen returning it to the victim. The suspect is described as a Hispanic male, 24 to 35 years of age, 5”7 to 5”9 feet tall and weighing 155 to 175 lbs. He was last seen wearing a blue polo style short sleeve shirt with black and white stripes, light-colored shorts, and a dark-colored baseball cap. No further description is available on the getaway driver. Both suspects were last seen fleeing in a red Chevrolet pickup. Officers contacted a Coca Cola vendor at the Stripes Convenience Store who reported a green Dodge Caravan drove over his merchandise and fled. While Officers were talking to the vendor, the suspect returned and Officers attempted to pull over the vehicle. The driver Dalton McCandless (09/16/90) refused to stop and fled again. McCandless failed to negotiate the turn at Park Road 22 and Hwy 361, jumped the curb and came to a stop in the parking lot of the American Bank. The passenger remained in his seat, but McCandless jumped into the back seat and laid down. He denied being the driver and told Officers he was asleep in the backseat. McCandless had to be physically removed from the vehicle when he refused to show Officers’ his hands and sustained abrasions to his face. He was medically cleared at the scene by CCFD emergency personnel. McCandless and the passenger Nestor Pedron (04/18/76) who appeared intoxicated were arrested. McCandless was charged with Evading Arrest with a Vehicle, while Pedron was charged with Public Intoxication.
Officers responded to the Bay Shore Inn for a shooting in which a victim had been struck by gunfire. Upon their arrival, Officers found 22-year-old Aaron Lee Barrera deceased. Witnesses told Officers, two masked men kicked in the door and shot the victim. A female in the room was unharmed. The suspects fled the Bay Shore Inn and a search was initiated. The Corpus Christi Police Department was assisted in the search for the suspects by the Texas Department of Public Safety Air Support and the Nueces County Sheriff’s Department Canine Tracking Unit. Officers contacted Virginia Stockner (08/14/81) who was traveling eastbound on Saratoga in her blue 2010 Nissan Sentra when she lost control. The Nissan drove off the roadway onto the sidewalk striking an AEP pole and a fence. Stockner did not to sustain any injuries, but did appear intoxicated. She was provided Standard Field Sobriety Tests and a Blood Draw. Stockner was medically cleared and arrested. She was booked at the CDC and charged with Driving While Intoxicated.

Officers contacted a 40-year-old female who reported a male approached her in a green Pontiac Grand Am who attempted to convince her to get in the vehicle. She told Officers the male fled in the vehicle northbound on Weber Road. Officers searched the area and pulled over the suspect Carlos Castaneda-De-Leon (09/10/89) in a nearby apartment complex parking lot. He told Officers he just wanted to give the complainant a ride home. Castaneda was found to be in possession of a couple of cellophane baggies with Cocaine and arrested. He was charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance.
Officers contacted the victim, a 39-year-old female, who reported a Black male walked up to her in the area of 1400 Tarlton and demanded money. The victim refused to hand over her money and in the struggle she sustained a laceration to her leg. She was transported to Spohn Memorial for medical treatment. The suspect is described as a Black male weighing 220 lbs. He was last seen wearing dark clothing and a blue “do-rag” on his head.
