Cab Driver Discovers Injured Man On 4700 Leopard Street

                A 48-year-old man was taken to the hospital by ambulance Saturday morning for treatment for a serious injury after he was found on the 4700 block of Leopard Street by a 48-year-old taxi cab driver.

The cab driver called Corpus Christi Police at 4:15 am to check on a man who laid in the middle of the street.  The 48-year-old man had an obvious injury and was not conscious. Emergency Medical Technicians took the 48-year-old man directly to the hospital for treatment.

Corpus Christi Police Investigators believe the injuries to the 48-year-old man were caused by an other person and would like help from the public to identify any person who may be responsible for the injury.

Occurred Wednesday, December 5, 2012, 12:30pm, 1500 Ocean Drive at Cole Park

                A dog was rescued from the water by a Corpus Christi Police Officer on his lunch break at Cole Park Wednesday afternoon.

Corpus Christi Police Senior Officer Jason Lee took his lunch break at the 1500 block of Ocean Drive at Cole Park at about 12:30 in the afternoon. A woman attracted Officer Lee’s attention and said her dog fell into the water and was unable to get out of the water.

Officer Lee saw a Doberman splash in the water and become fatigued and unable to get out of the water because of a vertical cliff next to the water. The dog had fallen off of the cliff into the water and was unable to get out.

Officer Lee reached over the ledge and pulled the dog to safety.

Detectives Identify Man in Chaparral Street Assault

The Corpus Christi Police Department would to thank the community and our Media partners for their assistance in helping identify the man responsible for the assault of a 25-year-old Corpus Christi man.  Due to the social media and news coverage, the Police Department received numerous tips called in to Crime Stoppers. In addition, viewers provided information to both Patrol Officers and Detectives.

Corpus Christi Homicide/Robbery Detective R.L Garcia was able to obtain a warrant for Victor Pedro Perez (08/14/89) for Aggravated Assault. His bond is set $200,000.

Update: The Gulf Coast Violent Offenders Fugitive Task Force apprehended Perez on 12/05/12  during a traffic stop at the 500 block of North Mesquite Street. Perez was arrested and taken to the Corpus Christi City Detention Center.

Warrant Issued for Hit and Run Driver

Officers responded to Staples and Texan Trail for a hit and run accident involving a motorcycle.  Upon their arrival, Officers found the 30-year-old motorcyclist seriously injured.  He was rushed to Spohn Memorial with non-life threatening injuries.

Further investigation revealed,  a black Jeep Wrangler turned left in front of the motorcyclist causing him to strike the passenger side of the Jeep. The motorcyclist went down and the Jeep fled on Texas Trail leaving a piece of important evidence.  Hit and Run Investigators tracked down the owner of the Jeep using the fender flare left at the accident scene.

Hit and Run Investigator D. Schwartz was able to obtain a felony arrest warrant on Jose Luis Antunez (11/22/60) for Accident Involving Injury or Death.  If anyone has any information as to the location of Antunez we ask that you call Crime Stoppers at 888-TIPS.  Callers will receive a cash reward if the suspect is arrested.

Naked Man Came “A-Knocking On My Door”

Police were called to 7900 block of  Wolf Drive for a naked man knocking on the door of the residence.  Upon their arrival, the homeowner told Officers the naked man was hiding in the backyard.  Officers checked the backyard and found Troy Justin Peterson (11/09/77) hiding near a shed.

Peterson was completely nude and holding a metal pry bar which had been used to destroy the victim’s swing set.  The victim’s lawnmower was also taken apart and damaged.

Peterson was arrested and booked at the City Detention Center after being medically cleared.  He was charged with Burglary of a Building a State Jail Felony punishable  by two years in a state jail and a $10,000 fine.  He was additionally charged with Criminal Mischief punishable by up to 180 days in jail and a $2,000 fine.

Officer Taken to Hospital After Police Car Hit by Drunk Driver

A Corpus Christi Police Officer was treated and released at a local hospital after being hit by a drunk driver.  The Officer, a 13-year veteran of the Police Department was completing an accident investigation in the 2800 block of IH 37 when the police car he was sitting in was rear-ended by a red Pontiac Sunfire.

The driver of the Pontiac was rushed to Spohn Memorial by CCFD Emergency Personnel with life-threatening injuries where he regained consciousness and determined to be intoxicated.  A mandatory blood draw was taken.

Traffic and Safety Follow-Up Investigators were called to assist and the preliminary investigation determined the police car’s emergency lights were on when the Pontiac driver lost control and spun around, hitting the Officer’s vehicle with the back of his vehicle.

The 41-year-old man was not arrested due to his injuries.  He could possibly be charged with Driving While Intoxicated, Driving While License Suspended/Invalid, and Unsafe Change from a Direct Course.

Suspect in Armed “Beer Run” Arrested

Gang Unit Investigator M. Fonseca was working in an off-duty capacity when he recognized wanted gang member Ramon Sal Ramos (06/18/85) and placed him under arrest.

Ramos was charged with November 3, 2012 robbery of the Stripes Convenience Store in which he displayed a knife and threatened the store employee who blocked the exit to him keep from stealing $40 worth of beer.

He was booked at the City Detention Center and charged with the outstanding Aggravated Robbery warrant.  Lt. R. Alvarado congratulated Officer M. Fonseca on a job well done and staying diligent in his off-duty work.

Detectives asking for the Public’s Help in Identifying Suspect

The Corpus Christi Police Department is asking the public’s assistance in identifying these two men involved in the Aggravated Assault of a 25-year-old man.  Officers were called to the intersection of Starr and N. Chaparral Streets for an unconscious man.  Upon their arrival, Officers found the victim unconscious with a laceration to the back of his head.  The victim was taken to Spohn Memorial with possibly life threatening injuries.

Video surveillance shows the suspect intentionally bump into the victim as they walked by one another.  A verbal exchange is seen on the video which led to the victim being assaulted and knocked to the ground.

The suspect is described as a Hispanic man, 22 to 28 years of age, 5’6″ to 5’7″ feet tall and weighing 150 to 180 lbs.  He was last seen wearing an oversized white baseball cap, a black shirt, and gauges in his ears.

Woman Charged with Rollin’ Stolen

Officer E. Leal was driving behind a maroon Ford F150 which was reported stolen out of Brownsville Texas.  The driver Miranda Ashley Nicole Colunga (04/04/89) observing the Officer following her changed lanes from the inside left lane to the right lane as she quickly pulled into the parking lot of the Stripes Convenience Store at Staples St. and Carroll Lane.

Officer S. Baldwin joined him on the traffic stop and they contacted Colunga who was found to be wanted on a Municipal Court warrant for Speeding in the amount of $115.53, Driving While License Invalid, and Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle.

Colunga was also charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance when Officers found Cocaine and money hidden in her bra.  The two passengers in the vehicle were released.

Police Search for Man who Exposed Himself to Jogger

Police were called to Cole Park and contacted a female jogger who reported a Hispanic man exposed himself as she jogged in the 1700 block of Ocean Drive.  The woman told Officers as she ran southbound near the North entrance to the park she observed the man turn and expose himself.

The jogger continued running and began dialing 911.  The man ran off as she called Police.  She described the man as a 50-year-old Hispanic male, 5’8″ to 5’9″ feet tall, and weighing 160 to 180 lbs.  He was last seen wearing a red Polo shirt, khaki pants, and appeared to be very neatly groomed.

Running is normally a safe activity, but  the Corpus Christi Police Department recommends that runners have a running partner or let someone know where you’re running and when you will return.  Avoid deserted streets and avoid unlighted routes at night. Carry your identification and a cell phone in case of an emergency.

Runners should run to populated areas, if confronted.  If you are attacked, try to keep calm and look for an escape opportunity or chance to call for help.
