Police Investigate Threats Which Prompt School Lock-down

Corpus Christi Police are investigating a terroristic threats complaint Friday morning which prompted a lock down of Flour Bluff High School.

A 38-year-old woman reported the threat to Corpus Christi Police Friday morning and explained that she was a concerned parent who saw the threat on her daughters Twitter feed.

The 38-year-old woman told Officers a 17-year-old male former school acquaintance of her daughter got involved in an argument on Twitter. The 38-year-old woman told Officers it appeared to her that personal comments upset the 17-year-old man.

Officers responded to Flour Bluff high school to inform staff of the vague threat which may have involved the High School as a target of a violent action. The school only had the Latchkey program on campus which included 110 students and staff.

Corpus Christi Police Officers stayed on the campus for guard duty while this case was investigated.  Officers learned that the 17-year-old man had transferred to the Corpus Christi Independent School District, and Officers contacted the Chief of School District Police who responded with assistance. Corpus Christi Police contacted the 17-year-old man at a different part of town from the school at 12:07PM for an interview, and the school lock-down was lifted.

The 17-year-old man was released, but Corpus Christi Police continue to investigate this terroristic threats complaint. A 39 year old man called Corpus Christi Police after he arrived at his home, located at 4026 Bradford Drive, and found that suspects had entered his residence and took several items including his vehicle.

Officers arrived and found that the suspects made entry into the home by removing a window air conditioning unit in one of the bedrooms.  Once inside the suspects stole several electronics valued at over $2000, some fishing poles, and a 2016 black Toyota Tacoma truck that had been parked in the garage.

At this time no suspects have been identified, and the truck has not been recovered.

Corpus Christi Police and Fire units responded to a report of a vehicle on fire in the parking lot of an apartment complex located at 711 Glenoak Drive.

When Officers arrived they found two vehicles on fire, a Ford Explorer and a Kia Sorrento, at the west end of the parking lot in front of building 8.   On both vehicles, the front driver side appeared to be the point of origin for the fires. On the ground near the two vehicles, Officers found a one gallon container that did have gasoline inside but was now empty.

Both cars had to be towed from the scene.

At this time, the suspect that started the two fires has not been identified.

Corpus Christi Police are investigating a crash that left a 24 year old male driver in the hospital and a homeowner with approximately $20,000 in damage to his home located at 1302 Prince Drive.

Officers arrived and the crash investigation determined that the male driver of a 2015 Ford Focus was traveling west on McArdle Road when he lost control of his car and crashed into a fence and the home on Prince Drive.

The driver suffered injuries to his leg and he was transported by CCFD EMS to Spohn Memorial Hospital to be treated for non-life threatening injuries.

During the investigation, Officers determined that the driver did appear to be intoxicated.

Once the man is released from the hospital, he could face charges of driving while intoxicated.

No one inside the home was injured.

Corpus Christi Police arrested a man after he was seen trying to break into a vehicle parked in front of a home located in the 900 block of Saint Gregory Street.

When Officers arrived, they found a 53 year old man pointing a handgun at another male on the ground in front of the home.  The homeowner told Officers that he saw the suspect outside of his home attempting to get into his 2014 Dodge truck.  The homeowner, armed himself with a handgun, and went outside to confront the suspect.  He ordered the suspect to the ground and then waited for police to arrive.

Officers found what they believe to be a controlled substance in the pockets of the suspect.

The suspect, Cameron Hellman (10/05/1997), was arrested for possession of a controlled substance and he may also be charged with burglary of a vehicle, a Class A misdemeanor.

Corpus Christi Police arrested five men after they jumped over the fence at the Greenwood Pool, located at 4305 Greenwood Drive, and were inside swimming and drinking alcohol.

Officers arrived and heard the males inside the fenced in area around the pool playing loud music and swimming. When Officers approached they observed six males in the pool.  Five adult age males and one juvenile.  Officers also observed the males to be drinking alcohol and they all appeared to be under the age of 21.

Officers arrested Josue Cruz (11/13/1998), Juan Vivero (04/19/1999), James Vasquez (06/24/1997), Eric Jasso (09/16/1998), and Raymond Gaona (07/05/1998) and they were all charged with criminal trespass, minor in possession of alcohol, violation of nighttime curfew, and public intoxication.

The juvenile was taken to the Nueces County Juvenile Justice Center.

A 39 year old male called Corpus Christi Police after his ex-wife rammed the rear of his truck with her SUV while he was on a date with another women.

The ex-wife found the man and his date traveling on Gollihar Road, near South Staples Street.  The man told Officers that he was driving his 2005 Dodge truck down the street with a 25 year old female passenger inside when his ex-wife saw him.  The ex-wife, driving a 2003 Ford Expedition, began to ram her SUV into the rear of the man’s truck several times.

When the man pulled into a parking lot in the 4100 block of South Staples Street to confront his ex-wife, she ran into his truck again with her SUV and then fled.  No one in the truck was injured.

The ex-wife did not get far.  She lost control of her SUV and crashed her Ford Expedition into a fence at 4629 Carroll Lane and then into a tree in the 3500 block of Harold Street. After the crash, the female exited her SUV and took off walking on foot from the area.

Officers caught up to the female driver, Melissa Lopez (09/27/1982), at her home in the 4500 block of Kirkwood Drive.  She was arrested for aggravated assault, a felony offense, for intentionally ramming her car into her ex-husbands vehicle.

A 36 year old man called Corpus Christi Police after the ex-boyfriend of a female he is now dating came to his apartment, located in the 4000 block of Violet Road, armed with a gun.

Officers arrived at the man’s home and were told that he heard someone banging on the windows of his trailer but when he looked out, he could only see a white truck outside.  The man also heard someone banging on the front door of his trailer, but he did not look out the window facing the front door because he was afraid. He told Officers that his girlfriend of two months has an ex-boyfriend that drivers a white truck.

Neighbors told Officers that they saw a man banging on the trailer and it appeared to them as if he broke two windows on the side of the home.  They also said the man outside was armed with a handgun.  They saw the man bang loudly on the front door, and then step back and point the handgun in the direction of the front door waiting for someone to answer.

When no one came to the front door, the man outside left in his truck but was located by Officers on Violet Road near Interstate 37.

Officers stopped the 2011 Dodge truck and after an investigation they determined that the driver, Jose Luis Garcia (02/11/1973), was intoxicated.  They also found two loaded handguns in the center console of his truck.

The suspect was charged with aggravated assault, a felony offense, unlawful carrying of a weapon, a Class A misdemeanor.  He was additionally charged with driving while intoxicated and criminal mischief for breaking the trailer windows.  Both of those charges are Class B misdemeanors.

Corpus Christi Police responded to an alarm at a business, located at 13941 Northwest Boulevard, and found the side door to the restaurant was open.

When Officers went inside they found a cash register thrown on the floor broken with coins around it. Officers determined that the suspects made entry into the business after the bottom latch on the side door was left unlocked.   The door was then easily pushed in by the suspects breaking the dead bolt.

The owner of the restaurant estimated that the cash register would cost $280 to replace and that nearly $60 in cash was taken from the register after it was broke open.

At this time, no suspects have been identified.

Corpus Christi Police responded to an alarm at a business, located at 8151 Leopard Street, and found a front window to the restaurant broken out.

When Officers went inside they found two cash registers on the front counter that were open but did not contain anything inside of them. Officers also located an ax laying on the floor.  They believe this was used by the suspect to break out the glass window and make entry into the building.

At this time, it does not appear as though anything was taken from the business, but the owner estimated that it would cost $300 to repair the broken window.

Officers wear able to view camera surveillance video from the restaurant.  It shows a male suspect, 30 to 40 years of age, with dark hair, glasses, a beard or goatee enter the business through the broken window.  After looking through the empty cash registers, he leaves out the same window.  He was last seen wearing a white shirt and khaki colored shorts.

At this time, no suspects have been identified.

The owner of a business, located at 4032 Weber Road,  called Corpus Christi Police after he arrived at work and found that the front glass door to his barber shop had been broken out.

Officers arrived and they were told by the owner of the business that he found a portion of the front door glass had been broken out sometime overnight.  Once inside the business, the suspects entered an interior office and took money from the cash register drawer.  The suspects also stole two pair of hair clippers and a pair of scissors from one of the salon work stations.

The owner estimated that the suspects stole over $700 in equipment and cash from the business.

At this time, no suspects have been identified.

An employee of a business, located at 10010 South Padre Island Drive, called Corpus Christi Police after he arrived at work and found the glass to the front door had been smashed out.

Officers arrived and found that a suspect had scaled the side wall of the business and then used a landscape brick to break out the front glass door doing at least $300 in damage.

Once the glass was shattered the suspect entered the business and stole several power and hand tools totaling over $1,200.

At this time, no suspects have been identified.

A 47 year old female was robbed by a man who was hiding in her vehicle in the parking lot of a business located at 3237 South Alameda Street.

The female victim told Officers that she had parked her vehicle in front of the business with the previous day’s deposit in a bank bag.  When the female got back into her car to take the money to the bank, the male suspect, who was already in the back seat of her car, told her not to look back.

The suspect took the bank bag and the victim’s purse. He then placed what the female thought was a knife against her ribs and then told her to drive. Once they drove around the block the suspect exited the vehicle with the bank bag and ran.

The female was not injured.

The suspect was last seen wearing a dark hooded top and blue jeans.

At this time no suspects have been identified.

Corpus Christi Police arrested a male driver for DWI after he crashed his truck into a utility pole and a water meter in the 4200 block of South Staples Street.

Officers arrived and determined that the driver of a 2004 GMC truck was traveling north on South Staples Street when he lost control of his truck and left the roadway.  The driver of the truck struck a utility pole cutting it in half and then crashed into a water meter.

After an investigation, Officers determined that the driver of the truck, Nicolas Chabera (12/22/1984), was not injured but he was intoxicated.

The driver was arrested for driving while intoxicated and his truck was impounded.

Corpus Christi Police responded to a report of shots being fired from a condominium unit, located in the 15400 block of Seamount Cay Court.

When Officers arrived they found damage to an exterior wall and glass of one of the condominiums that appeared to be the result of a bullet being fired.  When Officers contacted two men inside the unit they denied knowing anything about the damage.

During the investigation, Officers located a total of five bullets holes in a wooden fence that was located in an alley near the open garage door of the condominium.  They also found a .380 handgun, a rifle, and a 12 gauge shotgun inside the unit, as well as, several shell casings from two of the weapons.  They also determined the two men inside the unit had prior felony convictions.

The two men, Marcus Hedlund (07/15/1984) and Jeremiah Lopez (03/031982), were both arrested for unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon, a felony offense and discharging a firearm, a Class A Misdemeanor.

A Corpus Christi Police Officer on a traffic stop in the 4800 block of Everhart Road was distracted from talking to the driver of the car he had stopped when a truck passed by him traveling on a flat tire.

When the Officer looked toward the truck, he saw it was traveling down the street on its rim due to a flat front driver’s side tire.

Once back in his patrol unit, the Officer attempted to catch up to the truck.  When he did try to stop the truck, the driver fled at a high rate of speed causing most of the tire to come off the rim.  The Officer made the decision to terminate a pursuit of the truck.

Other Officers that were notified to be on the lookout for the truck, found it parked in front of a home in the 500 block of McClendon Drive.  Officers were able to determine that a female was driving the 2015 Ford F150 truck and they contacted her.   After an investigation, it was determined that the female driver, Alexandria Bates (06/27/1991), was intoxicated and she was arrested.

The female driver was charged with driving while intoxicated, a Class B misdemeanor and evading police in a vehicle, a third degree felony.

Corpus Christi Police arrested a man after he fired two shots from a vehicle that he was a passenger at a truck full of females, while both were traveling down South Padre Island Drive near Old Brownsville Road.

A 21 year old female called police and said that she was stopped at the intersection of Leopard Street and North Padre Island Drive at a red light in her truck with three female passengers when a Dodge Durango pulled up next to them and the front seat passenger in the Dodge started throwing objects at her truck.  The female recognized the man throwing the objects as someone she had just had a verbal disturbance with in the parking lot of a nightclub on Leopard Street.

The female said that she entered the freeway and was traveling east in the 300 block of State Highway 358 when she saw the same man lean out of the passenger side window of the Dodge and fire two shots from a handgun at them.  The females inside the truck immediately called police.

Officers were able to locate the Dodge parked at a convenience store located in the 500 block of South Padre Island Drive.  Officers arrested Arnold Arevalo (06/22/1993) for aggravated assault and also recovered a .25 caliber handgun.

A female driver was arrested by Corpus Christi Police after she crashed her car into two parked vehicles while driving down the 1000 block of Zarsky Drive.

Officers arrived and the crash investigation determined that the female was traveling on Zarsky Drive when she lost control of her 2011 Chevrolet Malibu and struck a 1997 Chevrolet truck and a 2004 Chevrolet Tahoe that were both parked along the street.

The man who owned both vehicles came out of his home to investigate, and the female driver began to walk away from the scene. When he confronted her, she made threats to “kill him.”

Officers arrived in time to arrest the female driver, Adrienne Ramirez (02/22/1979).  After an investigation it was determined that she was intoxicated.  Officers arrested her for driving while intoxicated and leaving the scene of a crash.

While being treated at Spohn Shoreline Hospital, the female hit the Officer on the right side of his face with her fist. The female was additionally charged with assaulting an Officer, a third degree felony.

A male employee of a business called Corpus Christi Police after two armed men came into the store, located at 6002 Ayers Street, and robbed it

Officers arrived and were told that two black male suspects entered the store, one of them was pointing a handgun at the clerk.  The two suspects stole cash from the register and several display items including candy bars and phone chargers.

One of the suspects was last seen wearing a grey hoodie with a pink Nike logo on the front and  a dark bandanna covering his face.  He also had on black shorts, and black and white shoes with
white socks.

The second suspect was last seen wearing a grey hoodie with black shorts, black socks and black and white shoes.

The clerk was not injured.

At this time, neither suspect had been identified.

A female store clerk called Corpus Christi Police after two men, armed with handguns, robbed the Stripes Store, located at 3238 Buddy Lawrence Drive.

Officers arrived at the store and were told that the two black male suspects came into the store and approached the counter demanding money.  One of the suspects was armed with a handgun and he pointed it at the clerk during the robbery.

The two suspects stole cash, cigarettes, and the clerk’s cell phone.

The two men were dressed similar to the two suspects that later robbed another Stripes Store located on Ayers Street.

At this time neither suspect had been identified.

Traffic Safety Section Investigates Pedestrian Crash on Staples

Incident: Vehicle Crash with a Pedestrian

Corpus Christi Police responded to a major vehicle crash that involved a pedestrian on the 5800 block of Staples Street Tuesday night.  Officers learned that an unidentified woman walked across Staples at about 9:30pm from the Country Village shopping area towards Burnham.  Witnesses told Officers that the woman did not react to the horns honking in efforts to alert her as she was in the street.  A 37-year-old man drove a full size pickup with a heavy brush guard which struck the woman.  Officers observed no indication of impairment with the 37-year-old man, and he was released at the scene.  At the time of this report, the woman is in the Intensive Care Unit in critical condition.  No citations or criminal charges have been applied in this crash.

Cops Search For Plant Thief

Corpus Christi Police Property Crimes would like help from the public to identify and locate a man who stole plants from the front porch of a house on the 1000 block of Barracuda Place last Wednesday.

A 42-year-old man reported the theft of three plants from his front porch to Corpus Christi Police at 5:40pm on May 25th.  The 42-year-old man provided surveillance video images of an unknown man who drove a pickup truck into the driveway of the 42-year-old man’s home at about 10:50am. The 42-year-old man told Officers two men got out of the truck, walked up to the porch, and, without permission, took three plants valued at about $150 dollars.

The 42-year-old man told the Officers the driver of the pick-up was an adult male about 40 years old, 200lbs, with black hair, black mustache, medium skin tone, and wore a blue shirt and blue jeans.
The 42-year-old man told Officers the passenger was an adult male, about 30-35 years old, 200-210 lbs, bald, medium skin tone, and wore a green plaid button shirt and blue jean shorts. The 42-year-old man told Officers the men used a vehicle described as an older model Ford F-150, tan in color, extra cab and appears to have a large dent on the back right quarter panel  between the wheel well and the tailgate.

A man was arrested by Corpus Christi Police after he assaulted his common law wife and his sister with a bat inside the home they share in the 3000 block of Reyna Street.

Officers arrived and were told by the 44 year old common law spouse that the male became upset with her because she would not give him money to go buy drugs.  The male grabbed her by the hair and pulled her into the living room.  That is when the male’s 18 year old sister got involved and she was hit in the face by the male suspect’s fist.

The male then picked up a baseball bat that was behind the front door and started swinging it at both females. Luckily, he missed both of them and neither female was seriously injured.

The sister was able to run outside and call police.

Officers arrived in time to arrest the male, Ernesto Martinez (09/04/1963), for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

A 48 year old man called Corpus Christi Police after someone broke into his vehicle and stole an AR 15 rifle.

Officers arrived and were told by the victim that he had parked his 2016 Dodge Ram truck in the parking lot of a motel, located at 5155 Interstate Highway 37 Access South.  During the night someone broke out the drivers side rear passenger window of his truck.  Once inside the vehicle, the suspect stole a Bushmaster brand AR 15 model rifle.

The rifle was valued at $1,500.

At this time no suspects have been identified and the weapon has not been recovered.

Corpus Christi Police arrested a male driver after he was found passed out behind the wheel of a stopped vehicle in the 300 block of North Port Avenue.

Officers responded to the call after several motorist had to drive their vehicles around the stopped 2000 Ford sedan that was stopped in the middle of the roadway.

Officers arrived and found the driver passed out behind the wheel with his foot on the break.

After an investigation, Officers determined that the driver, Bruce Davis (11/07/1960), was intoxicated.

The driver was arrested for driving while intoxicated and his vehicle was impounded.

Employees of a restaurant, located at 3220 Gollihar Road, called Corpus Christi Police after two men, armed with guns, robbed the business.

The two male suspects, one black a one Hispanic, walked into the restaurant wearing hoodies and gloves and each armed with a handgun.  The suspects pointed the guns at three employees and ordered them to walk to the back office.  Once in the back office, the suspects instructed all of them to get down on their knees and open the safe.

The employees were not injured, and the two suspects were last seen exiting the restaurant and running north on Randall Drive.

At this time, no suspects have been identified.

Corpus Christi Police arrested a male driver for DWI, after he crashed his vehicle into a fence and a home in the 900 block of Eighteenth Street.

Officers arrived and a crash investigation determined that the driver of a 2001 Chevrolet Tahoe SUV was traveling south on Eighteenth Street when the driver lost control of his vehicle left the roadway and struck a fence and a house located at 923 Eighteenth Street.

After an investigation, Officers determined that the driver of the SUV, Roel Campos (01/07/1969) was intoxicated and he was arrested.

The charge was upgraded to a felony DWI charge when it was determined that the suspect had prior convictions for the same offense.

No one inside the home was injured.

Offense: Driving While Intoxicated With a Child Passenger

Corpus Christi Police arrested the driver of a vehicle for felony DWI after he was stopped for a traffic violation in the 9000 block of Leopard Street and found to be intoxicated while he was driving with his three children.

An Officer observed the 2003 Chevrolet Suburban run a stop sign at the corner of Leopard Street and Clarkwood Road.  When the Officer stopped the driver, Mark Anthony Mendez (02/28/1981), they conducted an investigation and determined he was intoxicated.

Inside the vehicle Officers also found his three children, ranging in age between 3 and 5 years old.

The children were released to family members.

The driver was charged with driving while intoxicated with a child passenger, a state jail felony.

Corpus Christi Police arrested a male driver for DWI, after he swerved off the freeway and crashed his vehicle into several traffic barrels in the 5500 block of Interstate 37 North near McBride Lane.

Officers arrived and a crash investigation determined that the driver of a 2001 Ford F150 truck was traveling north on Interstate 37 when the driver lost control of his vehicle left the roadway and struck several traffic barrels containing sand.  The force of the crash caused the truck to roll over onto the driver’s side.

After an investigation, Officers determined that the driver of the truck, David Ernest Hernandez (11/26/1963) was intoxicated.  After he was treated for minor injuries at Spohn Memorial Hospital he was arrested.
