Corpus Christi Police arrested 42-year-old Johnnie Shull (6/29/1971) for discharging a firearm inside the city limits and for public intoxication at Padre Bali Park Tuesday night. Corpus Christi Police responded to a complaint of a man who discharged a firearm in the air at the park. Officers found Shull with a pistol and arrested him for discharging a firearm inside the city limits and for public intoxication.

A Corpus Christi Police Officer is credited with possibly saving the life of a 55-year-old woman from an apartment fire at 9320 South Padre Island Drive Tuesday morning. Three Corpus Christi Police Officers: Lieutenant Tom Nichols; Officer Brian Martin; and Officer Andres Alvarez responded to a fire at an apartment at 2:30am Tuesday morning and arrived before the Fire Department. The Officers heard screams and saw smoke inside the apartment and they forced open the door to provide help. Lt. Nichols heard the yelling from one of the occupants getting closer, but apparently unable to get to the door.  At that point, Lt. Nichols got onto his hands and knees and crawled through the apartment living room where the couch and recliner were on fire.  Amidst the smoke, Lt. Nichols made it into the hall where he made contact with a 55 year old woman and pulled her out of the apartment.

The Corpus Christi Fire Department arrived and attacked the fire, then were able to rescue a 28 year old woman. The 28 year old woman and the 55 year old woman were transported to the hospital for injuries from the fire. Lt. Nichols was transported to Bay Area Hospital for treatment of smoke inhalation and released. Officers Martin and Alvarez were treated for minor smoke inhalation and released back to duty.

A 43-year-old woman reported a theft at a grocery store located at 5313 Saratoga Boulevard to Corpus Christi Police Tuesday in which the suspect left behind an eight month old child. Corpus Christi Police responded to the complaint at 8:40pm and the 43-year-old woman explained to Officers that she saw a 24-year-old woman take merchandise from the store displays and load a shopping cart, then walk out of the store without paying for the merchandise. The 43-year-old woman told Officers she confronted the 24-year-old woman and the 24-year-old woman left the shopping cart behind and ran to a red Ford Mustang, then drove away. The 43-year-old woman told Officers an eight month old child was in the shopping cart left behind by the 24-year-old woman. Officers contacted a family member of the child to care for the baby. Officers were not able to locate the 24-year-old woman, but know her identity. Officers generated a criminal complaint for the theft and for child abandonment.

Corpus Christi Police arrested 23-year-old Meagan Boswell (2/13/1991) for driving while intoxicated after she was found asleep at the wheel at a drive through window at a restaurant located at 6505 Everhart Road Tuesday morning. Corpus Christi Police responded to a woman asleep at the wheel in a black 2013 Chevrolet truck at 3:10am and the truck was drifting slowly into traffic from the parking lot. Officers banged on the vehicle until Boswell woke and the Officers made sure she was not injured or ill. Officers then arrested Boswell, impounded the truck, then delivered Boswell to the city detention center.

Workers Discover Human Remains in Agnes Street Business

Corpus Christi Police are investigating a discovery of human remains at a garbage collection business at 4414 Agnes Street Tuesday morning. An employee discovered the human remains at the business among trash and called for emergency services at 6:38am. Emergency Medical Services determined the human remains were a deceased person and the Corpus Christi Police responded with an investigation to determine the circumstances of the person’s death. The Corpus Christi Police Forensics Lab Technicians responded to document and photograph the physical evidence, the Robbery/Homicide Detectives responded to collect information and determine if this is a product of a criminal action or if this was accidental, and the Nueces County Medical Examiner’s Office responded to collect the remains and determine the cause of death.

Update:

The Corpus Christi Police Robbery/Homicide Detectives determined the human remains are a 41 year old female. Detectives continue to investigate to determine where the woman was collected and if this is the product of a criminal action. The Nueces County Medical Examiner’s Office has collected the 41 year old woman and will conduct an examination to determine the cause of death and notify the next of kin.

Men Shoot Store Employee During Robbery On Ayers Street

Corpus Christi Police are investigating a robbery at a store located at 1602 Ayers Street which sent a 59-year-old man to the hospital with what Officers believe are gunshot wounds Monday afternoon. Corpus Christi Police responded to a complaint of a robbery at 1:06pm and discovered a 59-year-old man with obvious injuries. Officers learned that two men with masks that covered their faces entered the store and displayed a firearm. The two masked men left the store before Officers arrived. Witnesses told Officers a red four door car was seen leaving the store on Brownlee Boulevard after the robbery which may have had the two robbery suspects.

The 59-year-old man was taken to the hospital by ambulance for treatment of his injuries. Corpus Christi Police Robbery/Homicide Detectives arrived at the scene to gather information and evidence from the scene and they continue to search for the men responsible for this crime.

Update:

Corpus Christi Police Robbery/Homicide Detectives arrested three people related to this event. The 59-year-old man expired at the hospital and did not survive his injuries. Detectives arrested 26-year-old Del Victoria Cavazos (6/2/1987); 26-year-old Arturo Navarro (1/18/1988); and 26-year-old Daniel Garcia (8/1/1987) for the death of the 59-year-old man. All three arrested persons were charged with capital murder because they are accused of having caused the death of an individual while in the course of commenting a felony offense which is punishable by either life in prison or death.

Corpus Christi Police arrested 48-year-old Shirley Alvarez (11/02/1965) for driving while intoxicated with an open container of an alcoholic beverage at State Highway 358 and State Highway 44 Friday morning. A Corpus Christi Police Officer saw a silver 2012 Kia Forte drive into a road construction site at 12:12am while workers were present and the Kia continued to drive through the construction. The Officer stopped the Kia and arrested Shirley Alvarez for driving while intoxicated. The Officer discovered an open container of an alcoholic beverage inside the vehicle with Alvarez. The Officer impounded the vehicle and delivered Alvarez to the city detention center.

Corpus Christi Police arrested 27-year-old Aaron Indridson (5/30/1986) for driving while intoxicated when Inridson was found slumped over the steering wheel at the intersection of Ennis Joslin and South Padre Island Drive Friday morning. Corpus Christi Police responded to a complaint of a man slumped over the steering wheel in a white 2008 Ford Fusion while it was stopped at the red light at 12:45am. Officers shook the vehicle to wake the driver, Aaron Inridson, and then made sure Inridson did not suffer any medical issue. The Officers arrested Inridson for driving while intoxicated with a previous conviction and impounded the car. Officers then delivered Inridson to the city detention center.

Corpus Christi Police arrested 36-year-old Charles Hernandez (8/15/1977) for driving while intoxicated after he was found asleep at the wheel of a tan 2010 Ford F-150 in the drive through of a restaurant located at 6241 Saratoga Boulevard Friday morning. Corpus Christi Police responded to a complaint of a man asleep at the drive through at 12:33am and woke Charles Hernandez to make sure he did not suffer any medical condition, and then arrested him for driving while intoxicated. The Officers impounded the truck and then delivered Hernandez to the city detention center.

Corpus Christi Police arrested 23-year-old Robert Castillo (4/4/1991) for driving while intoxicated at the 3200 block of Crestwater Friday night. A Corpus Christi Police Officer conducted a traffic stop after he saw a silver 2012 Chevrolet Malibu pass through a stop sign at Masterson and Kostoryz without stopping. The Officer arrested the driver, Robert Castillo, and impounded the Malibu. The Officer then delivered Castillo to the city detention center.

Corpus Christi Police arrested 52-year-old Samuel Contreras (5/9/1961) for driving while intoxicated with 2 or more previous convictions on the 3900 block of South Port Avenue Friday morning. A Corpus Christi Police Officer conducted a traffic stop after she saw a white 2000 GMC Sierra pass through a stop sign at Andrews and Port Avenue without stopping. The Officer impounded the truck and delivered Contreras to the city detention center.

A Corpus Christi Police Officer recovered the cellular telephone Tuesday night which was stolen from a 19-year-old man the previous night in an aggravated robbery after a Facebook meeting to sell the phone on Trojan Drive. The Corpus Christi Police Officer saw a 19-year-old man he recognized from pictures from an investigation the previous night. The Officer knew a 19-year-old man met another 19-year-old man through social media in an effort to sell a cell phone, but the potential buyer displayed a handgun and took the phone without paying from the 19-year-old seller. The Corpus Christi Police Officer saw a 19-year-old man at 11:00pm in a store located at 1821 South Padre Island Drive which the Officer recognized as the suspect in the aggravated robbery. The Officer confronted the 19-year-old man and recovered the stolen cell phone. Detectives were contacted and the decision was made not to arrest the 19-year-old man at that time, but instead continue to gather facts and evidence. The 19-year-old man was released and the phone was collected as evidence.

Corpus Christi Police arrested 29-year-old David James (12/4/1984) for indecent exposure after he exposed himself to a female 31-year-old uniformed Police Department employee as she loaded police equipment in her marked Police vehicle in the parking lot of the Corpus Christi Department at 2:13pm Tuesday afternoon. The 31-year-old woman reported she loaded her vehicle and James approached her. The 31-year-old woman said she sat in the vehicle and then James stood next to the vehicle outside the driver’s window and fondled himself. Officers arrested James and delivered him to the city detention center for indecent exposure, a Class B misdemeanor punishable by up to 6 months in jail and up to a $2,000 fine.

A 19-year-old man reported an aggravated robbery at 1818 Trojan Drive to Corpus Christi Police Monday night. The 19-year-old man told Officers he posted a phone for sale on a Facebook account and a buyer requested to meet at the school to purchase the phone. The 19-year-old man told Officers the buyer examined the phone, then displayed a handgun and left with the phone without paying the 19-year-old man. Officers gathered the identifying information from the buyers social media account and continue to investigate. No arrests have yet been made.

Corpus Christi Police arrested 37-year-old Joyce Ramirez (1/16/1977) for reckless driving and other charges after she nearly struck a Police Officer on the side of the road. A Corpus Christi Police Officer conducted a traffic stop at the 300 block of Aberdeen Avenue at 10:00pm Monday night when he heard spinning tires and saw a blue 2001 Ford Explorer pass by him at a high rate of speed and nearly struck the Officer as he stood on the street side of the vehicle on the traffic stop. The Officer terminated the traffic stop and caught up to the Ford Explorer to contact the driver, Joyce Ramirez. The Officer arrested Ramirez and Ramirez resisted. The Officer applied the handcuffs on Ramirez and then discovered drug paraphernalia with Ramirez. The Officer impounded the Ford Explorer and delivered Ramirez to the city detention center on charges of reckless driving, possession of drug paraphernalia, and resisting arrest.

Corpus Christi Police arrested 34-year-old Erin Schmidt (2/19/1980) for driving while intoxicated at the 4800 block of Eider Drive Tuesday morning. A Corpus Christi Police Officer found a red 1995 Ford Mustang stopped in the middle of the roadway at 2:56am Tuesday and discovered the Schmidt slumped over the steering wheel. The Officer detected Schmidt had consumed alcoholic beverages and arrested Schmidt for driving while intoxicated. The Officer impounded the car and delivered Schmidt to the city detention center.

Corpus Christi Police responded to a fight in the road at Holly Road at Staples Street Monday night. Officers learned a 24-year-old man and 30-year-old man engaged in a confrontation which was called road rage. The two men were in separate vehicles when the 30-year-old man confronted the 24-year-old man about his driving. The two men got out of their vehicles and escalated the confrontation and swung at each other until Police Officers arrived. An ambulance treated the 30-year-old man for a minor cut to his hand. Officers issued citations to the two men and sent them in separate directions.

Corpus Christi Police arrested 39-year-old Santiago Perez (10/30/1974) for a warrant for his arrest and for driving while his license was invalid at the 10300 block of River Run Boulevard Monday morning. A Corpus Christi Police Officer saw a silver 2010 Volkswagen Touran travel the wrong direction on a one way street on the access road of Interstate Highway 37 at 2:50am. The Officer conducted a traffic stop and discovered the driver, Santiago Perez, had a Municipal Court warrant for his arrest for possession of drug paraphernalia. The Officer also discovered Perez did not have a valid driver’s license as it had been suspended six times since November 2005. The Officer arrested Perez and delivered him to the city detention center.

Offense: Possession of a Controlled Substance (Health and Safety Code Section 481.115) State Jail Felony
Case Number: 1404070021

Corpus Christi Police arrested 32-year-old Isabel Vasquez (10/25/1981) for possession of a controlled substance at an apartment public area located at 9320 South Padre Island Drive Monday morning. A Corpus Christi Police Officer conducted patrols through the apartment complex in response to recent burglaries to coin operated machines in which a woman had been viewed on video as the suspect in the crimes. The Officer saw Vasquez at the laundry room at 3:00am and stopped her to investigate. The Officer discovered the woman does not reside at the apartment complex and did not know any person who did live nearby. The Officer discovered contraband with Vasquez that the Officer believed to be methamphetamines and he arrested Vasquez for possession of a controlled substance. The Officer then delivered Vasquez to the city detention center.

Offense: Possession of a Controlled Substance (Health and Safety Code Section 481.115) State Jail Felony

Corpus Christi Police arrested 24-year-old Jose Longoria (6/2/1989) for possession of a controlled substance in a parking lot located at 4501 Weber Road Sunday night. Corpus Christi Police responded to a call for a person in need of medical attention in a parked black 2006 Jeep Liberty at 11:07pm. Officers arrived and found 24-year-old Jose Longoria disoriented. Officers and medics determined Longoria did not have a medical complaint, but was under the influence of narcotics. Officers found contraband which the Officers believed to be heroin, crack-cocaine, and medication not prescribed to Longoria and so the Officers arrested Longoria for possession of a controlled substance. The Officers impounded the Jeep and delivered Longoria to the city detention center.

Corpus Christi Police arrested 35-year-old Daniel Williams (9/21/1978) for burglary of a building and a warrant for his arrested after he broke into a medical building located at 3643 South Staples Street Sunday night. Corpus Christi Police responded to an alarm at the building and discovered a broken door. The Officers used the Patrol K9, Kimbo, to search the building and locate Daniel Williams inside. Williams was arrested for burglary and for a warrant for his arrest for criminal mischief. Officers then delivered Williams to the city detention center.

Offense: Theft of Metal (Penal Code Section 31.03) 3rd Degree Felony

Corpus Christi Police arrested two men Sunday night for theft of metal and other charges at 4520 Crosstown. A 70-year-old man called in a complaint of a theft in progress at 7:45pm Sunday night. Corpus Christi Police saw 45-year-old Raymond Dubberke (11/10/1968) and 43-year-old James Murray (1/11/1971) by the air conditioner system. Dubberke ran from the Officer by was captured by a second Officer. The Officers learned the two men cut wires to eight air conditioner units which caused over $25,000 dollars worth of damage. Dubberke was arrested for theft, tampering with evidence, and for evading arrest. Murray was arrested for the theft at the Officers delivered the two men to the city detention center.

Corpus Christi Police arrested 33-year-old David Laurel (8/9/1980) for reckless driving on State Highway 358 Thursday night. A Corpus Christi Police Officer conducted a traffic stop at 10:52pm when he saw a black Dodge Charger travel 116 miles per hour in a 65 mile per hour zone. The Officer arrested Laurel for reckless driving and impounded the vehicle. The Officer discovered Laurel had three municipal court warrants and Laurel was additionally charged. The Officer then delivered Laurel to the city detention center.

Corpus Christi Police investigated a vehicle crash at South Padre Island Drive at Weber and learned a driver involved in the crash abandoned a 4-year-old child. Corpus Christi Police responded to the crash at 9:45pm where a black 2004 Hyundai Santa Fe struck the back of a maroon 2010 Ford F-150 pickup. The 59-year-old man who operated the F-150 told Officers the man in the Santa Fe grabbed a child from the vehicle and fled the crash scene before law enforcement arrived. Officers searched and found a four year old child in the bed of a parked pickup truck in a nearby auto dealership. The Officers did not locate the man who drove the Santa Fe, but believe they know the man’s identity. Officers contacted family members of the child and the four year old child was taken to Driscoll Children’s Hospital for treatment of non life-threatening injuries. The Officers impounded the Santa Fe and continue to investigate this case which is punishable by up to 10 years in prison and up to a $10,000 fine.

Corpus Christi Police arrested 21-year-old Jesus Gonzales (2/16/1993) for unlawful carrying of weapons, theft of a firearm, tampering with identifying numbers on a firearm, and a variety of drug charges after a traffic stop on Interstate Highway 37 at Nueces Bay Boulevard Thursday night. A Corpus Christi Police Officer conducted a traffic stop after she saw a blue 2009 Kia Optima fail to signal a lane change. The Officer discovered the operator of the Kia, 21-year-old Jesus Gonzales, did not have a driver’s license and had a warrant for his arrest for criminal mischief. The Officer had Gonzales get out of the car and then discovered Gonzales had a pistol in his waistband. The Officer then discovered Gonzales had narcotics on him. The Officer arrested Gonzales and impounded the vehicle. The Officer saw that a serial number was damaged on the pistol, but was able to determine the pistol was reported stolen from a parked and unattended vehicle on the 2500 block of Goliad Drive in Corpus Christi in September 2013. The Officer then delivered Gonzales to the city detention center.

Corpus Christi Police arrested 32-year-old Robert Solomon (3/11/1982) for discharging a firearm, and a variety of other charges at the 1500 block of Lipan Thursday night. Corpus Christi Police received several complaints at 8:30pm of a person who discharged a firearm in the air from a white Buick in the area of Mexico Street and Comanche Street. A Corpus Christi Police Officer was in the area and conducted a traffic stop on a white Buick at the 1500 block of Lipan. The Officers discovered a pistol that was reported stolen from a home on the 8100 block of Baylark Drive in February 2013. Officers also discovered contraband which Officers believe is crack-cocaine. The Officer arrested Solomon for Theft of a Firearm; Unlawful Possession of a Firearm by a Felon; Possession of a Controlled Substance; and Discharging a Firearm Inside the City Limits and then delivered Solomon to the city detention center.

Corpus Christi Police arrested 23-year-old Gilbert Gomez (12/10/1990) for aggravated assault after a fight on the 4800 block of Johnston Drive Thursday night. A 21-year-old man reported the aggravated assault at 12:15am Thursday morning to the Corpus Christi Police. The 21-year-old man suffered several cuts and was taken to the hospital for treatment. Officers learned the injuries to the 21-year-old man were not life threatening. Witnesses told Officers that several people visited with the 21-year-old man and a fight erupted and the 21-year-old man told Officers he was stabbed by a knife. The 21-year-old man told Officers he knew his attacker and the Officers searched for and arrested 23-year-old Gilbert Gomez for aggravated assault. Officers then delivered Gomez to the city detention center.

A 57-year-old man reported a theft at the 5400 block of Rogerio Street to Corpus Christi Police Wednesday morning. The 57-year-old man told Officers some unknown person stole two tires from his vehicles which were parked in his driveway overnight. The 57-year-old man estimated the total value of the tires at about $400 dollars.

Corpus Christi Police arrested 35-year-old Benjamin Govella (11/3/1978) for unauthorized use of a vehicle at FM 1889 Tuesday morning. A 29-year-old man reported his company truck stolen from a convenience store located at 14901 Northwest Boulevard at 10:10am. The 29-year-old man explained to Officers that he left the keys in the ignition with the engine running while he went into the store and the truck was gone when the 29-year-old man returned. The Nueces County Sheriff’s Office worked with the Corpus Christi Police to track the vehicle to a private driveway on FM 1889 by a locator device on the truck. Corpus Christi Police arrested Govella for unauthorized use of a vehicle which is punishable by up to two years in prison and up to a $10,000 fine. The truck was returned to the 29-year-old man and Officers delivered Govella to the city detention center.

A 28-year-old man reported a burglary of his vehicle while it was parked overnight at an apartment parking lot located at 5757 Wooldridge Road to the Corpus Christi Police. The 28-year-old man told Officers some unknown person entered his silver 2011 Chevrolet Silverado pickup while it was parked and unattended overnight and the person took a pistol left inside the truck.

Corpus Christi Police arrested 24-year-old Debbie Salazar (9/9/1989) for unauthorized use of a vehicle on the 1200 block of South Port Avenue Tuesday morning. A Corpus Christi Police Officer saw a brake light out on a white 2000 GMC Yukon which was stopped at the intersection of Port and Morgan. The Officer conducted a traffic stop for the inoperable brake light and discovered the Yukon was reported stolen hours earlier from a restaurant at the 200 block of North Staples Street. The original report stated that a 47-year-old man reported the Yukon stolen at 3:30pm and told Officers he left the keys in the ignition and the engine running while he went inside to get food. The Officer who conducted the traffic stop at 12:12am on April 1st impounded the Yukon and delivered Salazar to the city detention center.
