On September 27, 2019 at approximately 4:48 am Officers responded to the 5300 block of Leopard for a shooting just occurred. When officers arrived, they located 34-year-old Sophia Lott, deceased. A witness told Investigators that several shots were fired into the hotel room’s front window. Homicide Investigators need your help to locate the individual responsible for the Murder.
Investigators have obtained video surveillance from the shooting and are seeking assistance from the public to identify the person responsible.

Corpus Christi Police Officers are asking for your help to locate 40-year-old Jose Morales who has 7 active Nueces County Warrants. Morales has one felony warrant for Illegal Use of Credit Card, five felony warrants for Burglary of Building and one misdemeanor warrant for Burglary of Vehicle; all totaling $96,000 in bond amounts. Morales also has five outstanding Municipal Court Warrants.

Morales is described as a 40-year-old male, who stands 5’09”, weighs approximately 160 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes.

DWI ARREST

Location: 4000 IH 69 Access Road
Offense: Driving While Intoxicated (Class B)

On Saturday, October 05, 2019 at approximately 2:00 am, Officers were dispatched to the 4000 block of IH 69 access road in reference to a male asleep in a vehicle at a drive through.

Prior to officers arriving on scene, a witness had already woken the driver and had him move his vehicle to a parking space.

During the investigation, officers believed that the driver, 51-year-old Donnie Mersing, was intoxicated and he was placed in custody.

Mersing was charged with Driving While Intoxicated (Class B) and later transported to the City Detention Center where he was processed.

Mersing is a 24-year veteran of the Corpus Christi Police Department.

Mersing has been placed on administrative leave pending an investigation. The administrative leave is in accordance with current department practice and policy.

This is an active and ongoing investigation.

UPDATE ON SEPTEMBER 27TH HOMICIDE

The Corpus Christi Police Department investigated a homicide that occurred on September 27, 2019 on the 5300 block of Leopard. Initial information led us to believe that Delfino Chavira was the suspect involved in the death of 34-year-old Sophia Lott.

Homicide Detectives diligently continued the investigation into the Homicide and have discovered new evidence linking a different suspect. As a result of the newly uncovered evidence, the charges against Delfino Chavira were dismissed and Chavira was released accordingly.

BURGLARY OF A HABITATION

Offense: Burglary of a Habitation

Corpus Christi Detectives would like help from the public to identify four suspects who burglarized a residence located on the 7000 block of Smokewood Drive.

The victim advised that she arrived home at approximately 1:06 pm to find the front door to her residence unsecured with the frame damaged. Video surveillance showed that at approximately 10:12 AM a black in color KIA SUV, with the license plate partially covered, reversing into the driveway. While the driver remained in the driver’s seat, three offenders exited the vehicle and were seen running up to the residence before forcing the front door open with bodily force. The offenders were seen exiting the residence with various items in their hands placing them in the vehicle, returning inside the residence a second time and were seen exiting with additional stolen property. The offenders then enter the vehicle and were last seen traveling southbound toward Cedar Pass.

All three subjects who entered the home attempted to cover their faces with some type of clothing but there were instances where their faces were partially seen on camera. All three males appear to be between 18-25 years of age, approximately 5’07” – 5’09”. The fourth offender who was driving the Black KIA SUV did not appear on camera.

The victim noted that nearly $7,000 worth of personal property was stolen.

NUECES COUNTY WANTED SUBJECT

Nueces County Sheriff’s Office is asking for your help to locate 57-year-old Enemenicio Lopez who has an outstanding warrant for Aggravated Assault with Deadly Weapon ($50,000 Bond).

Lopez is described as a 57-year-old male who stands 5′ 09”, weighs approximately 230 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes.

INJURY TO A CHILD / ASSAULT FAMILY VIOLENCE

Corpus Christi Police responded to a fast food restaurant located on the 4100 block of Leopard, for a report of an infant who had sustained injuries.

Upon arrival, officers discovered that a 1-month-old infant had fallen to the ground and was unconscious. Through speaking with both parties along with several witnesses, officers determined that the couple was involved in an argument while the victim was holding their 1-month-old infant. Witnesses advised that the victim was attempting to leave the scene with the infant when the offender began chasing the victim and was observed striking him several times. At one point while swinging at the victim, the offender hit their baby that was being carried by the victim, resulting in the infant falling on the concrete ground.

Corpus Christi Police Officers arrested the Offender, 19-year-old Kiara Carreathers, she was subsequently charged with Injury to a Child and Assault Family Violence.

The infant was escorted by the Father to Driscoll Children’s Hospital for follow-up care.

ARMED AND DANGEROUS WANTED SUBJECT

Corpus Christi Police Officers are asking for your help to locate 20-year-old Jeremiah Rae Garcia (07/28/1999) who has an active warrant for assault. Garcia is known to carry a weapon on his person and as a result he should be considered armed and dangerous.

Garcia is described as a 20-year-old male, who stands 5’11”, weighs approximately 165 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes.

On September 27, 2019 at approximately 4:48 am Corpus Christi Police Officers were dispatched to the 5300 block of Leopard, reference a shooting. Officers arrived on scene and located a 34-year-old deceased female.

Through their investigation, Detectives identified a suspect and obtained two warrants for 37-year-old Delfino Chavira.

Delfino Chavira was arrested by Corpus Christi Police Officers and was later transported to the Nueces County Jail on a warrant for Murder ($1,000,000 Bond) and a warrant for Deadly Conduct ($250,000 Bond).
