Roland Ray Palomo (10/01/78) was detained by La Palmera Mall Security  after he tried to obtain credit at Kay’s Jewelers using his brother’s social security. A Kay’s Jeweler associate reported Palomo tried to buy a ring and applied for credit.  Shortly thereafter, their corporate office notified her, an identity theft alert had been placed on the social security number used.  The associate contacted the victim who verified  his brother was using his social security to obtain credit.

Palomo was arrested and charged with Fraudulent Use or Possession of Identifying Information, a State Jail Felony punishable up to two years in jail and up to a $10,000 fine.  If you suspect that your personal information has been hijacked or compromised to commit fraud or theft, take action immediately!  Keep a record of your conversations and correspondence.

Traffic Stop Leads to Discovery of Drugs

Officers pulled over a green Dodge Ram pick-up truck for a couple of traffic violations.  The driver could be seen attempting to hide something in the rear cab of the truck.  Christopher A. Garcia (04/26/86) was visibly shaking when Officers contacted him.  Garcia had two young passengers sitting in the cab area of the truck, a nine-year-old boy and a 3-year-old little girl.  In the rear floorboard, Officers could see a Marijuana cigarette.   

Garcia was arrested and during the impound inventory, a box containing several more Marijuana cigarettes and Crack Cocaine was found.  Garcia was booked at the City Detention Center and charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance and Possession of Marijuana.  The Possession of Controlled Substance is a 3rd Degree Felony and punishable by up to 10 years in prison and up to a $10,000 fine.  The Marijuana Possession is a Class “B” Misdemeanor and is punishable by up to 180 days in jail and a $2,000 fine or both. 

The two children were released to a family member.  A copy of the report will be forwarded to Child Protective Services.

Unwanted Vacation Excitement

A vacationing San Antonio Police Officer and his family staying at the Holiday Inn on Padre Island had their holiday marred by a burglar.  The officer and his 10-year-old daughter were in the hotel’s lobby using the guest computer when his daughter told him a woman was walking away with her mother’s purse.  At the same time, the Officer’s wife came into the lobby and told him their room had been burglarized. 

The Officer gave chase and was able to stop the woman and get back their stolen items.  As he was escorting the suspect Banna Roberts (04/06/71) back to the hotel, her family became verbally confrontational with the victim and Roberts was able to slip away.  As Officers were conducting their investigation, hotel patrons told Officers the suspect was walking along the Seawall, approximately 75 yards away. 

Roberts was returned to the hotel and positively identified. Once arrested and told she was going to jail, Roberts claimed shortness of breath and other medical ailments.   CCFD Emergency Personnel were called to check on her welfare.  When Medics cleared her, Roberts claimed heart trouble and taken to Bay Area Hospital where she was medically cleared by hospital staff. 

Roberts was booked at the City Detention Center and charged with Burglary of a Habitation, a Second Degree Felony punishable by up to 20 years  in prison and up to a $10,000 fine.  The stolen purse and camera valued at $850. were returned to the victim.

32-Year-Old Man Attacked and Run Over at Local Bar

Occurred on 6/21/12, 1:55 a.m.  Aggravated Assault   2215 Ayers 1206210015 

Police were called to Diana’s Place Bar for a fight involving three men.  Upon their arrival Officers observed a 32-year-old Hispanic male laying on the ground bleeding heavily from his upper arm.  The Officer retrieved his emergency equipment and was able to slow the bleeding.  CCFD Emergency Personnel arrived and the victim was taken to Spohn Memorial for medical treatment. 

Further investigation revealed the victim was assaulted by two men who punched and kicked him until he was knocked to the ground.  The men entered their sports utility vehicle and drove over the victim as they fled.    The victim was uncooperative with Officers refusing to provide them with any information. 

The suspects are described as two stocky and heavily tattooed Hispanic males, 5’7” to 5’9” feet tall. One man had a shaved head, while the other had a close fade haircut.  They were both last seen fleeing in a dark-colored GMC Yukon or Denali.

Copper Stolen from AEP Yard

An AEP Substation at 3701 Callicoate Road was the victim of a theft over the weekend.  AEP personnel reported someone entered the AEP yard by cutting the gate’s chain leading to the power transmission area.  Once inside, the thief or thieves stole 50 feet of heavy gauge copper wire.  The theft and damage is estimated over $2000.

Ballenger Construction Trailer Burglarized

Ballenger Construction Company employees reported their equipment trailer was burglarized.  The trailer had been reported burglarized  the day before and employees parked heavy equipment around the trailer to prevent another burglary from occurring.  The burglars moved the trailer away from the heavy equipment and entered through the door. 

Employees reported $5,000 in tools, that had just been replaced, from the June 18th burglary were stolen.   On June 18th, a report was filed with Officers in which $21,000 worth of tools were stolen from the same trailer over the weekend.  In the earlier burglary, the thieves broke into the trailer by cutting the locks to the door.  Officers were told a red SUV was seen near the trailer over the weekend.  There is no other suspect information available at this time.

CCPD passes the 1000 Twitter follower milestone

The CCPD Twitter account, which has been in existence less than a year, has reached over 1000 followers as of last night. Through the use of Twitter and other social media tools, The Corpus Christi Police department has been able provide more realtime information to the community than ever before.  Thank you to all our followers who continue to re-tweet road closures, descriptions of wanted subjects and other important news to their fellow citizens.

Birthday Celebration Turns Violent

Officers were dispatched to a fight in the parking lot of Macaw’s.  Upon their arrival, they found blood just outside the front door which was locked.  MaCaw’s bar staff was slow to open the door, but did so after several persistent raps on the door.   Further investigation revealed the fight occurred inside the bar where Officers found more blood by the bar, dance floor, and men’s bathroom.  The bartender told police two regular customers were involved in a fight which continued outside.  The bartender did tell Officers someone was hit with a bar stool during the clash.  Officers were unable to contact suspects or victims at the bar, but later that morning, a victim did show up at Spohn South.  

This victim told police he was celebrating the witness’ birthday when two women began arguing about a taser which was being shown to other patrons.  A man in the bar believed they were using their camera phone to record the incident and assaulted the victim.  The victim tried to defend himself, but the man began hitting him with a bar stool gashing his forehead.   The victim’s injuries were non-life threatening.

The suspect fled in a newer white Explorer or Tahoe.  He is described as a bald Hispanic male, 30 years of age, 5’8” feet tall, and weighing 200 lbs.  Anyone with any information on this crime is encouraged to call 888-TIPS or log on to www.888TIPS.com and submit a tip.  Tipsters can remain anonymous and may be eligible for a cash reward.

Man Injured In Machete Attack

A 39-year-old man was taken to the hospital for injuries received from a strike to the head with a machete by a 46-year-old man after an altercation at the 500 block of Cheyenne Street.

A 52-year-old man stood with the 39-year-old victim for an eviction when the 46-year-old man struck the 39-year-old man with the machete. The 52-year-old man wrestled the machete away from the 46-year-old man and the 46-year-old man left the area.

The 46-year-old man and the 39-year-old victim had an argument the Monday which police believe may have prompted the attack Tuesday. The 39-year-old man was taken to the hospital for treatment for his injuries.

Corpus Christi police continue to search for the 46-year-old man. Anyone with additional information about this crime is encouraged to call police investigators.

Man Yells At People And Lands Himself In Jail

A 23-year-old man was arrested for Driving While Intoxicated after he attracted the attention of Police for annoying people leaving a nightclub.

Corpus Christi Police responded to a complaint at McCaws Nightclub of a disturbance caused by a man in a maroon 2006 Lincoln Zephyr that yelled at people who passed him in the parking lot. Corpus Christi Police patrol officers arrived and located the car in the parking lot at the entrance to the night club. The officers then met the operator of the car, 23-year-old George Trevino Jr. (9/26/1988). The officers concluded that Trevino was intoxicated, and operated a motor vehicle in a public place, so the officers arrested Trevino for Driving While Intoxicated.
