Update: Update: 30-year-old Julian Lopez has been arrested and charged with Murder.
At approximately 8:28 am on Tuesday, August 9, 2022, officers were dispatched to the 6000 block of Ayers Street reference a shooting.
When officers arrived, they located an adult male who had been shot. Responding officers administered life savings measures on scene until medic units arrived, at which point the male was transported to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
Through their investigation, Homicide Detectives and Officers followed up on several leads, which allowed them to identify and locate the whereabouts of the suspect.
At approximately 11:37 am, Officers took the suspect into custody.
The suspect will be transported to the main police station to be interviewed, before being transported to the City Detention Center for processing. His identity will be released after he is processed.

We are providing updates to the series of events that occurred this afternoon.
At approximately 3:06 pm officers were dispatched to a shooting at Elizabeth and Brownlee. Updates provided that the shooting took place at a residence on the 1600 block of Elizabeth. The victim then ran to a nearby store for help. Upon arrival, Officers located a 39-year-old male who had been shot. He was transported to a local hospital in critical but stable condition.
At approximately 3:34 PM Officers were dispatched to the 5400 block of South Padre Island Drive, reference a possible shooting at a business. Officers quickly arrived and determined it was not an active shooter.
Preliminary information is that an employee arrived at a business and was involved in a disturbance with another employee. It quickly escalated and the suspect shot the victim and fled the scene. The victim was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
We can confirm that this was an isolated incident between two parties, known to each other.
At approximately 3:41 pm officers were dispatched to 5100 block of SPID for a bank robbery. Updates to the call provided that a male entered the business, displayed a weapon and demanded money from the teller. The suspect was able to get away with an undisclosed amount of cash.
A CCPD Officer observed a vehicle matching the description of the suspect from the shooting on the 5400 block of SPID. The vehicle was observed in the area of N. Staples and Leopard. The officer effected a traffic stop and the suspect was taken into custody at approximately 4:21 PM.
We had three separate incidents that occurred within a short time frame. They are all being investigated independently with the possibility that they may be related to the same suspect. We will not be able to confirm anything further until all the investigations have been completed.

Update: The offender was taken into custody at 4:21 pm. There is no active threat to the public. Officers are still actively working at the original scene, please avoid the area if possible.

The suspect did leave the scene, but he has been identified and officers are in the process of searching for him.
We are asking the public to avoid the area to allow officers to properly investigate the scene.
DATE: August 3, 2022 5:27 PM LOCATION: N. Staples and Comanche OFFENSE: Murder CASE #2208030093
On August 3, 2022 at approximately 5:27 pm officers were dispatched to the area of N. Staples and Comanche in reference to a shooting. As officers were en route they were advised that the victim was being transported by an unknown individual to the hospital.
Officers arrived at the hospital as the male victim was being worked on by hospital staff. The victim was being treated for a gunshot and was in critical condition.
As officers were investigating at the hospital they developed information that the shooting may have happened in the area of 1800 Van Loan. Officers went to the area of 1800 Van Loan and observed three males outside of a residence. One male ran inside the house and two males were detained outside. Officers then heard a couple of gunshots from inside the residence.
Officers set up a perimeter and after approximately an hour, a negotiator was able convince the subject to come outside. He was taken into custody without incident.
At approximately 7:36 pm the victim succumbed to his injuries. Detectives and officers are still actively investigating this murder. If anyone has any information about this crime they are asked to contact detectives at 361-886-2840 or call CrimeStoppers at 361-888-TIPS (8477).

You are invited to attend the Corpus Christi Police Department Practice Physical Assessment Test (PAT) this Saturday, July 30, 2022.
All applicants will be considered for our upcoming 82nd Police Academy, which is projected to begin October of this year. Attending one of these sessions is a great way to gauge your strengths and have a better understanding of what you need to work on to move forward in this process.
The practice test will take place at the main police station located at 321 John Sartain, Corpus Christi, TX 78401. All applicants shall meet us at the gated entrance directly across from Whataburger on the Bay (Water St. side of the building). Please arrive no later than 7:30 am, as we will being promptly at 8:00 am.
This practice test will be proctored, meaning if you pass all three components, you will receive a 30-day waiver. This waiver which will exempt you from having to complete the physical test on the day of your written exam.
Recruiters will also be available to answer any questions you have about any phase of the testing and hiring process.
Please report to the test site in physical fitness attire and have your driver’s license with you.

At approximately 10:49 am officers were dispatched to the area of the 2500 block of HWY 181 northbound for a jumper on the bridge and a secondary call for a stalled vehicle.
Upon arrival, the reporting party advised that they were attempting to corral a cat that was on the causeway, unsuccessfully.
It was determined that the cat had retreated in the wheel well of their vehicle. Despite the location and the dangerous situation for all involved, officers attempted to remove the cat to a safe location.
At the moment the officer grabbed the cat, the cat bit the officer on the hand, resulting in the officer releasing the cat. The cat landed on the topside of the jersey barricade; the cat then scurried on to the ledge of the roadway. As the reporting party and an officer attempted to retrieve the cat from the ledge, the cat jumped into the water. The cat was observed swimming away.
Officers utilized drones and a boat to search for the cat for over two hours, without success.
The officer is currently at a local hospital and received a total of seven shots for rabies prevention, as the cat appeared to be diseased and feral.
While we understand the compassion of citizens wanting to rescue an animal, we highly discourage our citizens from stopping on a highway or causeway. This places not only our citizens but our officers in a highly dangerous environment.
An anti-prostitution sting conducted by the Corpus Christi Police Department’s Narcotics and Vice Investigations Division Friday resulted in the arrest of 1 man on charges of prostitution, a State Jail Felony punishable by up to 2 years in jail and fines up to $10,000. The man was arrested after they solicited an undercover CCPD Officer, posing as a prostitute, for sex acts in exchange for money. The operation targeted several websites and applications that are utilized by prostitutes.
NVID Detectives were assisted in the operation by Uniform Division Officers, as well as civilians with the Red Cord Program. The Red Cord Program is a prostitution diversion program aimed to provide practical and emotional support for those involved in prostitution. The program is successful due to the collaboration between Coastal Bend Wellness Foundation, social service organizations, Nueces County District Attorney Office, and Corpus Christi Police Department. The program affords those involved with sex work an opportunity to address the myriad of behavioral, social, and psychological problems they have faced throughout their lifetime. Since 2013, Red Cord has provided case management, health services, job training, substance abuse treatment, clothing, housing, counseling, and other social services needed to address the circumstances related to their involvement in prostitution. Participants who successfully complete the program have their cases dismissed by the District Attorney’s Office.
The man arrested during Friday’s operation will be required to attend a mandatory prostitution diversion education program at their expense. This program educates men about the negative consequences of prostitution, circumstances that may lead someone to purchase sex, and the impact they have on the individual they attempt to solicit sex from in exchange for money. The fees raised from this program are then used to provide some of the resources mentioned above, to assist women seeking to escape the bondage of prostitution.
Although often inaccurately referred to as a “victimless” crime, prostitution is inextricably linked to multiple other crimes including assault, human trafficking, sexual abuse, drug abuse, and the spread of sexually transmitted infectious disease. Neighborhoods where prostitution is prevalent experience a drastic degradation of the quality of life that citizens expect and deserve. The Corpus Christi Police Department will continue to collaborate with all government and private entities to combat prostitution and help accomplish our mission of working with the community to reduce crime, reduce the fear of crime and enhance public safety.
On Saturday February 11, 2012, at 11:39 pm Corpus Christi Police officers responded to a major crash hit and run at the 7500 block of McArdle. The officers located 24-year-old Kimberly Encinia on the side of the roadway suffering from severe injuries. Kimberly was transported to a local hospital where she ultimately succumbed to her injuries.
Detectives with the Traffic Section Follow-Up responded to the scene and took over the investigation from the first responding patrol officers. Over the months that followed, the detectives were unable to determine the identity of the suspect and the case went cold.
On July 12, 2022, the Traffic Section received information on a possible suspect in the 2012 fatal hit and run crash. The detectives were able to conduct additional interviews and presented this information to the Nueces County District Attorney’s Office to secure an arrest warrant. 45-year-old Michael Atkinson was served the warrant for Accident-Causing Death or Bodily Injury ($250,000.00 bond) while he was incarcerated at the Nueces County Jail on unrelated charges.
