LABOR DAY 2022

Labor Day 2022 is upon us, and the Corpus Christi Police Department would like all our community to have a safe & fun time.

If you are traveling to the Island, be aware that there will be congestion, be sure to be patient and we will work hard to move the traffic along.

There will be additional officers both on the Island and beach ensuring that everyone is safe.

-If you plan on drinking alcohol have a designated driver, use a ride share or taxicab.
-This weekend will be a DWI “No Refusal” weekend. Should you be arrested for DWI, and you refuse a blood draw a warrant will be issued for the blood work.
-The speed limit on the beach is 15 mph and all traffic laws apply on the beach.
-No glass containers are allowed on the beach.
-If you are traveling on the beach, be sure to purchase a beach parking permit.

MURDER SUSPECT ARRESTED

At approximately 6:55 PM on Tuesday, May 31, 2022, officers were dispatched to the 4600 block of Dodd for a shooting.

Upon arrival, officers located a 38-year-old shooting victim who was deceased on scene.  

Through their investigation, Homicide Detectives followed up on several leads and were able to secure an arrest warrant for 24-year-old Trevor Lang for Murder ($250,000 Bond).  An additional warrant for Tampering with Physical Evidence ($50,000 Bond) was also secured. 

US Marshals Gulf Coast Violent Offender Fugitive Task Force followed up on a Corpus Christi Crime Stoppers Tip, which led them to the whereabouts of Lang. 

At approximately 5:15 pm on Friday, August 19, 2022, Officers with the US Marshals Gulf Coast Violent Offender Fugitive Task Force, along with Texas DPS, Brazoria County Major Offenders, Galveston County Task Force and Galveston Police Department, located and took Lang into custody without incident at a residence in Clute, Texas.  

Lang was transported to the Brazoria County Jail for processing.  Lang is awaiting extradition to Nueces County.

Suspect arrested in the city’s latest homicide.

On Wednesday August 17, 2022, at 4:13 am officers were dispatched to 1800 Trey Way for an Unknown EMS call. When the officers arrived, they found a deceased male that had passed due to suspicious circumstances.  

Detectives with the robbery/homicide unit investigated and determined that the victim died of an apparent gunshot wound. Detectives were able to identify and obtain a warrant for suspect involved in the murder.

At approximately 12:45 pm officers were patrolling in the area of Poenisch and Alameda when they observed the suspect vehicle. Officers stopped the vehicle and took the suspect into custody without incident.

Richard Lee Dixon

The suspect, 43-year-old Richard Lee Dixon, was transported to the main station to be questioned by investigators. Dixon was then transported to the City Detention Center and processed for murder.

On August 17, 2010 Henry Lozano was at the intersection of Slough/Rodd Field when he was shot and killed. A witness believes the vehicle was a small white car possibly a Chevrolet Corsica, with a male driver. We want to provide his family some closure, we know there is someone out there that has information about this crime.

Today is 12th anniversary of this murder and we have not forgotten about Henry. We hope that this will bring in some new leads.

SHOOTING VICTIM SUCCUMBS TO INJURIES

The victim from the shooting on August 8, 2022, that occurred on the 5400 block of South Padre Island Drive, has succumbed to his injuries. 

The victim who had been treated and released from a local hospital, later experienced complications from those injuries.  The 34-year-old male went to a hospital outside of city limits for treatment, where he passed away.

Charges for the Offender are expected to be upgraded.

ARREST MADE IN CITY’S LATEST HOMICIDE

At approximately 10:40 pm on Tuesday, August 9, 2022, officers were dispatched to the 2800 block of Lawton reference a call for an unknown man down.  When officers arrived, they located a 27-year-old male who showed to have severe trauma.  Responding officers administered life savings measures on scene until medic units arrived, at which point they pronounced the male deceased. The unattended death was found to be a homicide.

Through their investigation, Homicide Detectives followed up on several leads and were able to identify and secure an arrest warrant for 38-year-old Jerry Griffin for Murder ($500,000 Bond). 

Homicide Investigators along with officers from our Crime Reduction Unit were able to track down the whereabouts of Griffin.  Members of our SWAT Unit were called in to assist.

Today, at approximately 5:45 pm Officers from our SWAT Unit were able to locate the male hiding at a residence on the 2800 block of Lawton. 

Griffin was transported to the main station to be interviewed by Investigators.  Griffin was later transported to the City Detention Center for processing.

UPDATE ON SERIES OF EVENTS FROM 08/08/22

In reference to yesterday’s series of events.  We are able to confirm that all three incidents were connected to the same suspect, 42-year-old, Anthony Carrington. 

Anthony Carrington

Carrington was arrested and charged with Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon and Unlawful Possession of a Firearm by Felon in relation to the shooting on the 1600 block of Elizabeth. 

Carrington was charged with Aggravated Robbery in relation to the Bank Robbery on the 5100 block of SPID. 

Carrington was charged with Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon in relation to the shooting on the 5400 block of SPID. 

Carrington is being held at the Nueces County Jail on a total of $250,000 bond.

CITY’S LATEST HOMICIDE

Update: Update: 30-year-old Julian Lopez has been arrested and charged with Murder.

At approximately 8:28 am on Tuesday, August 9, 2022, officers were dispatched to the 6000 block of Ayers Street reference a shooting.  

When officers arrived, they located an adult male who had been shot.  Responding officers administered life savings measures on scene until medic units arrived, at which point the male was transported to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.   

Through their investigation, Homicide Detectives and Officers followed up on several leads, which allowed them to identify and locate the whereabouts of the suspect. 

At approximately 11:37 am, Officers took the suspect into custody.

The suspect will be transported to the main police station to be interviewed, before being transported to the City Detention Center for processing.  His identity will be released after he is processed.

UPDATE ON SERIES OF EVENTS

We are providing updates to the series of events that occurred this afternoon.

At approximately 3:06 pm officers were dispatched to a shooting at Elizabeth and Brownlee.  Updates provided that the shooting took place at a residence on the 1600 block of Elizabeth.  The victim then ran to a nearby store for help.  Upon arrival, Officers located a 39-year-old male who had been shot.  He was transported to a local hospital in critical but stable condition.

At approximately 3:34 PM Officers were dispatched to the 5400 block of South Padre Island Drive, reference a possible shooting at a business.  Officers quickly arrived and determined it was not an active shooter.

Preliminary information is that an employee arrived at a business and was involved in a disturbance with another employee. It quickly escalated and the suspect shot the victim and fled the scene. The victim was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.  

We can confirm that this was an isolated incident between two parties, known to each other.  

At approximately 3:41 pm officers were dispatched to 5100 block of SPID for a bank robbery.  Updates to the call provided that a male entered the business, displayed a weapon and demanded money from the teller.  The suspect was able to get away with an undisclosed amount of cash.  

A CCPD Officer observed a vehicle matching the description of the suspect from the shooting on the 5400 block of SPID.  The vehicle was observed in the area of N. Staples and Leopard.  The officer effected a traffic stop and the suspect was taken into custody at approximately 4:21 PM.

We had three separate incidents that occurred within a short time frame.  They are all being investigated independently with the possibility that they may be related to the same suspect.  We will not be able to confirm anything further until all the investigations have been completed.    

Corpus Christi Police Officers responded accordingly and meticulously with the details they were initially provided for all calls.  We want to thank all of our officers for their prompt and professional response.
