As is our practice we are releasing the information for the officer who was involved in the shooting on June 28, 2021.  

One Corpus Christi Police Officers has been placed on paid administrative leave, which is in accordance with current department practice and policy.

Officer Ruben Flores has been a police officer with the Corpus Christi Police Department for 18 years.

This is still an active and ongoing investigation. AUTO THEFT SUSPECT ARRESTED

On Wednesday, June 30, 2021, a traffic stop was made near Lantana Drive and Academy Street.  The male provided a false identity to officers.  Investigators were eventually able to identify the male from a previous contact, as 38-year-old William Womack. 

While checking for warrants, Womack was found to have two outstanding warrants out of San Patricio County; both warrants were for Burglary to a Vehicle. 

Womack was charged with: Fail to identify as a fugitive, Fail to display driver’s license, Fail to maintain financial responsibility, Expired license plate and Disregard a traffic control device.

Detectives with the Corpus Christi Police Department Auto Theft Task Force were conducting an independent investigation and connected William Womack to a recent theft of a vehicle.  Detectives obtained an additional warrant for Womack, he was subsequently booked on a charge for Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle.   

NUECES COUNTY WANTED SUBJECT

Nueces County Sheriff’s Office is asking for your help to locate Nathaniel Lomas who has an outstanding warrant for Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon ($50,000 Bond).

Lomas is described as an 18-year-old male, who stands 5’07” feet, weighs approximately 145 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes.

“Choose Your Ride” DWI Awareness Campaign

Interim Chief of Police David Blackmon along with Mayor Paulette Guajardo unveiled a half police vehicle and half taxicab as part of the “Choose Your Ride” campaign.  

This vehicle will be used as a static display to remind our community of the consequences of driving while intoxicated.

The Corpus Christi Police Department reminds our community that there are alternatives to drinking and driving. We encourage the use of a designated driver, taxicab, or rideshare so that you may arrive home safely.

OFFICER INVOLVED SHOOTING / Aggravated Assault on a Peace Officer

Date: Tuesday, June 29, 2021 3:17 A.M.
Location: 900 block of Quetzal Street
Offense: Aggravated Assault on a Peace Officer
Case Number: 2106290012

At approximately 3:00 am on Tuesday, June 29, 2021, officers were dispatched to the 9500 block of Blue Jay for a suspect who was burglarizing vehicles in the neighborhood.  At approximately 3:17 am, a separate caller advised that a male was in their yard, looking into their residence on the 900 block of Quetzal Street. 

Officers arrived in the area and observed a male matching the description provided by the reporting parties.  The suspect immediately attempted to flee from officers.  Officers pursued the suspect who quickly turned and discharged a handgun several times at officers, striking a Corpus Christi Police Officer once.  The officers returned fire, striking the male. 

The suspect was transported to a local hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries. 

The officer was also transported to a local hospital, where he is being treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION – OFFICER INVOLVED SHOOTING

Update on Officer Involved Shooting. 

The primary suspect related to the catalytic converter theft was taken into custody at approximately 8:38 am.  The suspect, who was positively identified as the offender who fled the scene, is 25-year-old Juan De Los Santos. 

De Los Santos was charged with Aggravated Robbery.   

After being interviewed and processed, De Los Santos was booked in at the City Detention Center at approximately 6:38 pm.

OFFICER INVOLVED SHOOTING

Date: Monday, June 28, 2021 6:52 A.M.
Location: 3800 block of Caravelle Pkwy
Offense: Theft of Metal
Case Number: 2106280030

At approximately 6:52 am on Monday, June 28, 2021, officers were dispatched to an officer involved shooting.

Upon arrival, it was determined that an officer was walking through the parking lot, observed a male under a vehicle attempting to cut off a catalytic converter.  The officer engaged the subject and as he attempted to take the subject into custody, a struggle ensued.  While the officer was engaged in a struggle with the male, a second subject approached the officer and produced a handgun.  The officer disengaged the first subject and subsequently engaged the second subject, the subject was shot. The subject was transported to a local hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries. 

The initial subject fled on foot and is still outstanding at the moment. 

This is still an active and ongoing investigation.
