The Corpus Christi Police Department wants to warn our citizens of a phone scam.

The reporting party told our officers that they received a call from a scammer claiming to be a detective with our department. The scammer then told the reporting party that they had a subpoena that was issued for a federal child case and that if they did not meet the caller would be placed on a 72-hour hold.

CCPD offers this advice to avoid getting scammed:

* Look out for “spoofing”. Part of scammers tactics include spoofing, which happens when the caller masks their own number and causes the number of a well-known Agency, like CCPD, to appear on caller ID.  Also, the caller might give a badge number and know the last four digits of your Social Security number.

* Write down details.  If you do get a call and are unsure, write down the phone number and name of the caller.

* Protect your personal information. Do not provide any personal or financial information over the phone.

* Know your rights.  Corpus Christi Police Department will never request for prepaid debit cards or wire transfer payments and will not ask for a credit card number over the phone.

* Don’t be bullied.  Never trust callers who use threats and hostility to push you into doing what they want. Be skeptical of what a caller claims he or she can do if you refuse to meet their demand.

* Hang up and report it. If you’re unsure if the call is real, contact CCPD directly at 361-886-2600.  The Corpus Christi Police Department will never demand payment from you, ask you for any private or financial information over the phone or threaten to bring the police or other federal law-enforcement groups to have you arrested for not paying.

Eddie Deleon was reported missing by his family on April 30, 2021. He was last seen on the 2300 block of Airline.

Eddie is described as a 50-year-old male who stands 5 feet 6 inches tall, weighs approximately 200 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes. Eddie has a portrait tattoo on his forearm.

On Sunday May 2, 2021 at 8:29 pm officers were dispatched to the 4900 block of Shadowbend for a domestic disturbance in which the offender had threatened to come to the residence and he was armed with a weapon.

The offender was not at the residence at the time that the officers contacted one of the involved parties. The officers gathered information and stayed near the residence as the report was being written.

The offender drove up to the residence in the vehicle that was described by the reporting party and it was at this time the officers conducted a felony stop due to the report of him being armed.

The offender exited the vehicle, failed to comply with the officer’s commands, and produced a weapon at which time the officers were forced to discharge their weapons striking the offender.

The officers immediately began to provide first aid to the offender while waiting for an ambulance to arrive on scene. The offender was transported to the hospital and at last update was in critical but stable condition.

The Corpus Christi Police Department would like for everyone to enjoy the Wings Over South Texas Air Show and Buc Carnival this weekend.

For the safety of everyone involved, both directions of Shoreline will be closed from the American Bank Center to Park Ave. You should expect traffic congestion and arrive early to find parking. During the weekend show there will be no enforcement of parking meter violations.

For the safety of the pilots, and the public, the Federal Aviation Administration requires a safe airspace for a 3-mile radius.  The use of drones or kites from North Beach to Cole Park and Staples to the Bayfront will be prohibited.

The Corpus Christi Police Department Auto Theft Task Force will be conducting 68A inspections on the first and third Tuesday starting May 2021. The inspections will be held at the Corpus Christi Police Department Impound Lot located at 5485 Greenwood Drive.

The inspections will start at 9:00 am to 11:00 am and customers must be in line by 10:00 am.

On April 2, 2021 Senior Officer Javier Segovia was eating lunch while on duty when he observed a man in the restaurant coughing, choking on his food, and waving his hands in panic.

Senior Officer Segovia immediately went to the man’s aid, administered the Heimlich maneuver, and successfully dislodging the food from his throat. Due to the officers quick action he was able to provide immediate first aid and saved the man’s life.

On April 22, 2021 Senior Officer Javier Segovia was awarded the Life Saving Ribbon.

Corpus Christi Police Detectives need your help identifying this trio of suspects who stole a vehicle and then used a credit card that was inside the vehicle to make several unauthorized purchases.

On April 04, 2021, a victim reported that in the overnight hours, his 2016 White in color Chevrolet Traverse was stolen from outside his apartment. The trio later made several authorized purchases at local businesses.

There are three suspects, two young males and one young female that you will see in the attached video. The trio was seen leaving one of the parking lots where they used the stolen credit card, in a 4-door dark in color passenger car.

An anti-prostitution operation conducted by the Corpus Christi Police Department’s Narcotics and Vice Investigations Division Thursday afternoon resulted in the arrests of two women on charges of prostitution. A 49-year-old woman was charged with State Jail Felony prostitution, due to previous prostitution convictions. A 50-year-old woman was also charged with State Jail Felony prostitution, due to prior convictions. The women were arrested after they solicited an undercover CCPD Officer for sex acts in exchange for money. The operation targeted several north and west side neighborhoods frequented by prostitutes.

NVID Detectives were assisted in the operation by Operations Division Officers, as well as civilians with the Red Cord Initiative. The Red Cord Initiative is a prostitution diversion program aimed to provide practical and emotional support for those involved in prostitution. The program is successful due to the collaboration between the Coastal Bend Wellness Foundation, social service organizations, the Nueces County District Attorney Office, and the Corpus Christi Police Department. The program affords those involved with sex work an opportunity to address the myriad of behavioral, social, and psychological problems they have faced throughout their lifetime. Since 2013, Red Cord has provided case management, health services, job training, substance abuse treatment, clothing, housing, counseling, and other social services needed to address the circumstances related to their involvement in prostitution. Participants who successfully complete the program have their cases dismissed by the District Attorney’s Office.

One of the women during Friday’s operation agreed to participate and was accepted into the program, the other was deemed ineligible. Since its inception in 2013, 355 men and women have been arrested for prostitution during these operations, 150 have qualified for the program, and 35 have graduated from the program. The Red Cord initiative receives no government funding and is supported entirely through donations. Although often inaccurately referred to as a “victimless” crime, prostitution is inextricably linked to multiple other crimes including assault, human trafficking, sexual abuse, drug abuse, and the spread of sexually transmitted infectious disease. Neighborhoods where prostitution is prevalent experience a drastic degradation of the quality of life that citizens expect and deserve. The Corpus Christi Police Department will continue to collaborate with all government and private entities to combat prostitution and help accomplish our mission of working with the community to reduce crime, reduce the fear of crime and enhance public safety.
