Corpus Christi Police arrested 41-year-old Michael King (3/12/1972) for felony theft at the Moore Plaza Shopping Center Monday afternoon. A 62-year-old woman reported to the Corpus Christi Police a shoplifter from a store in the Moore Plaza Shopping Center at about 3:30pm. The 62-year-old woman provided a description of the theft suspect and a Corpus Christi Police Officer stopped King who matched the description of the suspect. The Officer discovered evidence of the crime and arrested King for theft and for resisting arrest. The Officer then delivered King to the city detention center.

A Corpus Christi Police Officer initiated a traffic stop at Dabney and Staples Street when he saw a green 1993 Honda Civic drive on the road with an inoperable headlight. The vehicles stopped and the driver of the Civic, 29-year-old John Tamez (11/5/1984) exited the vehicle and approached the Officer. The Officer instructed Tamez to get back in the vehicle, and Tamez ran from the scene. Corpus Christi Police Officers chased and apprehended Tamez and discovered Tamez had an active municipal court warrant for his arrest. Tamez was arrested for the warrant for his arrest and for evading arrest. The Civic was taken to the city impound and Officers delivered Tamez to the city detention center.

Corpus Christi Police arrested two men at a convenience store Monday after Officers smelled burnt marijuana in the parking lot. Corpus Christi Police responded to a complaint of a theft at the store at 9:45pm. Officers smelled a strong odor of burnt marijuana as they went into the store to address the complaint. The Officers then investigated the source of the odor and arrested 27-year-old Shamar Lindsey (7/29/1986) for a warrant for his arrest for Possession of Marijuana and Officers arrested 25-year-old Joshua Lindsey for possession of a controlled substance. Officers then delivered the two men to the city detention center.

Corpus Christi Police arrested a 39-year-old man for stealing a gold 1993 Chevrolet Suburban on the 900 block of Nandina Drive Sunday morning. A 22-year-old man made a complaint to the Corpus Christi Police at 1:07am that an unknown person stole his vehicle from the driveway of his residence. The 22-year-old man explained to the Officers that he heard the engine start to the Suburban parked in the driveway, and the 22-year-old man said he saw the vehicle back out of the drive, and leave. Another Corpus Christi Police Officer found the vehicle parked at a hotel on Leopard Street and arrested 39-year-old Donald Garcia for the Unauthorized Use of a Vehicle. The Officer discovered evidence of other crimes in the vehicle with Garcia and continued to investigate. The Officers discovered there were three vehicles on the 900 block of Nandina which were the target of burglary and the radios were taken from each vehicle. Garcia was additionally charged for the burglaries to the vehicles.

Corpus Christi Police arrested 3 people Sunday for stealing over $1,500 dollars worth of merchandise from a retail store at 6101 Saratoga Boulevard Sunday night. Corpus Christi Police responded to a shoplifting complaint at 9:15pm. Officers were provided a description of the vehicle the suspects used to leave the parking lot. A Corpus Christi Police Officer saw the suspect vehicle on Saratoga and conducted a traffic stop to investigate the suspects. A store employee told Officers the three suspects loaded carts full of merchandise and left the store without paying. The Officer discovered evidence of the crime and arrested 38-year-old David Delacruz (5/6/1975), 22-year-old Danny Cruz (10/23/1991) and 44-year-old Shirley Ybarra (10/10/1969) for theft. The merchandise was returned to the store, the vehicle was impounded, and the three suspects were delivered to the city detention center.

Corpus Christi Police investigated a bicycle theft and discovered an injured 44-year-old man at the 4200 block of Ayers Street Saturday. Corpus Christi Police responded to aid a 44-year-old man with injuries to his face just before 1pm Saturday. The Corpus Christi Fire Department provided emergency medical assistance to the 44-year-old man while the Officers investigated a criminal complaint. A 50-year-old woman told Officers the 44-year-old man stole the bike and the owner chased the 44-year-old man. The 50-year-old woman told Officers the owner of the bike punched the 44-year-old man several times and took back the bike. The 50-year-old woman described the bike owner to Officers as possibly a professional bike rider with a professional style expensive bike. The 50-year-old woman told Officers the owner of the bike left the area and could not be found.

Officers discovered the 44-year-old man had a plastic bag with what the Officers believed to be marijuana. The 44-year-old man was taken to the hospital and then admitted for treatment of his injuries. The Officers placed the contraband in the evidence locker and generated a criminal complaint against the 44-year-old man for possession of marijuana and for theft.

The 17-year-old man went to the hospital for treatment.  Investigators continue to gather evidence and information to determine the facts of the case.

A 21-year-old man reported to Corpus Christi Police that an unknown person stabbed him while he sat at a bar at 3206 Ayers Street Saturday night. The 21-year-old man told Officers the suspect approached him from behind and stabbed him with a knife and then the suspect ran outside to flee the area. A 35-year-old woman described the suspect to Officers as a Hispanic man about 35 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches tall, about 160 pounds, and a blue and gray shirt.

Corpus Christi Police Officers noted one arrest related to shopping crowds on Thursday night. Corpus Christi Police arrested 25-year-old James Wilborn (11/17/1988) for public intoxication after he caused a disturbance at 5488 South Padre Island Drive at about 8:00pm Thursday night. No other problems were reported.

A 19-year-old man called a complaint of theft from a store to the Corpus Christi Police and provided a description of the suspect. A Corpus Christi Police Officer saw Torres, who matched the description of the suspect, on the 3100 block of Morgan Avenue. The Officer stopped Torres and discovered he had a warrant for his arrest for theft. Corpus Christi Police took two juveniles into custody for burglary of a habitation Monday at the 15200 block of Isabella Court. Corpus Christi Police responded to a call for a burglary in progress at 12:36pm. Officers went inside the home and found two boys ages 12 and 13 who were in the house without permission attempting to commit theft. Corpus Christi Police delivered the two boys to the Nueces County Juvenile Detention Center and dropped off the bikes the boys left in the front yard to the parents.

Two men suffered gunshot wounds after a robbery at a home on the 3500 block of Lariat Lane Monday night. Officers reported the men had injuries that were not considered life threatening. A 29-year-old man told Officers he went to the front door to his home to meet a man he knows in order to sell some property. The 29-year-old man told Officers the man he met took the property by force and discharged a firearm several times which struck the 29-year-old man and another 53-year-old man in the house. The 29-year-old man described the suspect to Officers as a black male in his early 20’s in age, 6 feet 3 inches tall, about 220 pounds and has short faded hair. The 29-year-old man told Officers there was a second man and a woman who were with the suspect at the time of this event. Detectives continue to gather and validate information and evidence in this case.

The 65-year-old woman told Officers she held on to her purse and the man got out of the car and then punched her several times in the face. The 65-year-old woman told Officers she fell to the ground and the man took her purse and left. The 65-year-old woman described the suspect to Officers as a Hispanic male about 20 years in age, 5 feet 10 inches tall, and about 150 pounds.

A 66-year-old man went into the store on November 6, 2013 at 10:00am and left the keys in the ignition and the doors unlocked to his gray 2004 Kia Sorrento. The 66-year-old man discovered the vehicle was taken without permission when he left the store. Officers found the vehicle Tuesday at 2:30pm at the 8100 block of Leopard Street. The vehicle was taken to the city impound to be processed for evidence to determine who is responsible for this crime.

Offense: Driving While Intoxicated (Penal Code Section 49.04) Class B Misdemeanor

A Corpus Christi Police Officer was transported to the hospital by ambulance after his patrol unit was struck by a vehicle driven by a 20-year-old man on the JFK Causeway Wednesday morning. The 46-year-old Officer was in the Chevy Tahoe patrol unit when the unit was hit from behind by a white 2000 Ford Ranger driven by a 20-year-old man. Both the Officer and the 20-year-old man were transported to the hospital for what are believed to be non-life threatening injuries. Crash Investigators detected evidence that the 20-year-old man had consumed alcoholic beverages which they believe may have contributed to the crash. The Officer and the 20-year-old man remained at the hospital for treatment at the time of this post. The road was partially closed while emergency crews worked the crash scene from 2:48am until 4:09am.

Update: The 20-year-old operator of the Ford Ranger was released from the hospital and identified as Austin Roberts (6/7/1993). Roberts was arrested for Driving While Intoxicated and delivered to the city detention center.

Corpus Christi Police arrested 41-year-old John Whittington (11/3/1972) for Unauthorized Use of a Vehicle Tuesday when an observant Officer noticed the vehicle on Horne Road. A Corpus Christi Police Officer responded to a vehicle crash at Horne Road and Kostoryz Tuesday and happened to notice a trailer with unusual features in the driveway of a home on the 2900 block of Horne Road. The Officer worked the crash scene and then heard on the Police radio that a trailer was recently stolen from the 14000 block of Jackfish with the same description as the vehicle seen on Horne Road. The Officer finished the crash report and investigated the trailer at the 2900 block of Horne Road and discovered the trailer was the same which was reported stolen. The Officer discovered evidence to identify Whittington as the person responsible for the crime, so the Officer arrested Whittington and delivered him to the city detention center. The trailer was returned to the owner.

Corpus Christi Police took a 13-year-old boy into custody Tuesday night for possession of synthetic marijuana at the 1700 block of Timrod Drive. Officers also discovered the child was in the care of a non-family member and left unattended in an apartment for over an hour and a half. Officers finally contacted the person, who was supposed to watch the child, 26-year-old Chantella Rosales (2/24/1987) and arrested Rosales for Child Abandonment. The child was delivered to another non-family member for care by the parent’s direction. Rosales was then delivered to the city detention center.

A 57-year-old man told Officers he crossed the road outside of a cross walk and was struck by a vehicle. The 57-year-old man told Officers his leg was broken and the vehicle left without providing any information. The 67-year-old man told Officers he saw the crash and the vehicle was a red Lincoln Navigator. The 57-year-old man was transported to the hospital with what Officers believe are not life-threatening injuries.

Corpus Christi Police arrested two 19-year-old men after an investigation of a loud noise complaint at the 1800 block of Thames Drive Sunday morning. Corpus Christi Police responded to a complaint of loud noise at 1:22am and found 19-year-old Danny Riojas (10/17/1994) as he left a party with an alcoholic beverage. Riojas was arrested for consumption of alcohol by a minor. While Officers conducted the arrest of Riojas, 19-year-old Sammy Castellanos (3/18/1994) approached the Officers to offer to provide a ride for Riojas. Officers got identification from Castellanos and then requested Castellanos be out of the road and in a safer position. Castellanos argued with the Officers. The Officers recognized Castellanos was intoxicated and then arrested Castellanos for public intoxication. Castellanos pulled away from Officers and reached toward his back. Officers wrestled with Castellanos until he was safely in handcuffs. Officers then found a loaded pistol in the area for which Castellanos reached. Castellanos was arrested for Public Intoxication, Resisting Arrest, and for unlawful Carrying a Weapon. Riojas and Castellanos were then delivered to the city detention center.

Corpus Christi Police arrested 50-year-old Cynthia Rangel (8/17/1963) for possession of a controlled substance after an investigation of a suspicious person. Corpus Christi Police responded to a call of a person asleep in a vehicle at South Padre Island Drive at Preston Street at 7:48pm. Officers discovered 50-year-old Cynthia Rangel (8/17/1963) in the vehicle and she was not injured. Officers discovered Rangel was in possession of a crystal like substance which the Officers believe is methamphetamine. Officers arrested Rangel, impounded the car, and then delivered Rangel to the city detention center.

A 33-year-old woman told Officers she is the manager of a hotel and she noticed a man sleeping in a vehicle in the parking lot. Officers investigated and discovered 22-year-old James Scott (7/30/1991) was not injured or ill. The Officers discovered Scott with a substance the Officers believed was heroin. Scott was arrested, his car was impounded, and Scott was delivered to the city detention center.

Corpus Christi Police arrested a 23-year-old man Saturday after an investigation for a man who brandished a gun. Corpus Christi Police responded to a call for a man who displayed a firearm in the area of Holly and Weber Road at 5:37pm. A 22-year-old man flagged down an Officer and described a man who looked into cars and pulled on door handles. The 22-year-old man said the suspect saw the 22-year-old man watching and the suspect lifted his shirt to display a handgun. Officers located the suspect, 23-year-old Justin Gunnels (11/7/1990) who ran from Officers. Officers apprehended Gunnels and arrested him for Public Intoxication, Possession of Marijuana, Possession of Dangerous Drugs, and Evading Arrest. Officers requested use of the K9 Unit, and Indy located the pellet gun (which had the appearance of a real firearm) along the path Gunnels ran. Gunnels was then delivered to the city detention center.

Corpus Christi Police arrested 29-year-old Joseph Sharpe (10/14/1984) at the 1500 block of Lazy Lane Thursday afternoon. A Corpus Christi Police Officer saw Sharpe drive a vehicle in the area of State Highway 358 and Agnes and knew Sharpe had two active warrants for his arrest. The Officer followed Sharpe to the 1500 block of Lazy Lane when Sharpe stopped the vehicle, and then ran on foot from the Officer. Sharpe was captured and charged with the two warrants, one for aggravated assault and the other for unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon. Sharpe was additionally charged with possession of a controlled substance, possession of dangerous drugs, evading arrest, and unlawful possession of body armor by a felon. Sharpe was then delivered to the city detention center.

Corpus Christi Police investigated a motorcycle crash at the 13600 block of Northwest Boulevard Saturday night in which a 38-year-old man was taken to the hospital by ambulance after having struck the raised center median. The 38-year-old man rode a black 2009 Harley Davidson motorcycle without a helmet but was treated for what officers believe to be non life-threatening injuries. Crash Investigators from the Corpus Christi Police Traffic Safety Section continue to investigate the cause of the crash. No other vehicles, property, or people were involved in the crash.

Corpus Christi Police arrested two men Sunday morning for several charges which include tampering with evidence and a recovered stolen firearm from a traffic stop at South Padre Island Drive at West point Road. A Corpus Christi Police Officer conducted a traffic stop at 1:32 am when a green 1996 Ford Explorer made an improper turn at South Padre Island Drive at West Point Road. The officer saw the front passenger, Tommy Yanez (12/21/1978) eating marijuana. The Officer arrested Yanez for possession of marijuana and tampering with evidence. The Officer then discovered a stolen firearm in the vehicle. The Driver, 50-year-old Bryan Hanna (11/18/1962) was arrested for possession of marijuana and theft of a firearm. The vehicle was impounded and the two men were delivered to the city detention center.

The 21-year-old man told Officers he heard a firearm discharge Saturday night at about 10:15pm; but, did not call Police until he saw a hole in his rear bumper and spent shell casings near his vehicle. The 21-year-old man told Officers he suspects a person, but no arrests have yet been made as Police continue to investigate.

Corpus Christi Police arrested two men Sunday morning for theft after they attempted to steal beer from a convenience store located at 3053 Waldron Road. A Corpus Christi Police Officer heard an announcement on the police radio that two men stole beer from the store and left north on the 3000 block of Waldron Road in a white truck. The Officer went to Waldron Road and saw a truck with two men who matched the description announced on the police radio. The Officer conducted a traffic stop at the 2600 block of Tinian Street and arrested 21-year-old Daniel Pineda (11/2/1992) and 18-year-old Alex Garcia (6/2/1995) for theft. The beer valued at $34 dollars was returned to the store, the truck was impounded, and the two men were delivered to the city detention center.

The 30-year-old man told Officers he was invited to a party at an apartment; but the person who invited the 30-year-old man hit him in the face with a closed fist and demanded cash. The 30-year-old man told Officers he gave the man cash and the man ran away. The 30-year-old man described the suspect as a 20-year-old Hispanic man about 5 feet 6 inches tall, about 185 pounds, with curly black hair. No arrests have yet been made.

A 78-year-old woman reported to the Corpus Christi Police that a man took her purse from her hand Sunday afternoon at a shopping center at 5425 South Padre Island Drive. The 78-year-old woman told Officers she walked in a store at 3:20pm when an unknown man grabbed her purse from her hand and ran out of the store. The 78-year-old woman told Officers she screamed and the man dropped the purse. The 78-year-old woman told Officers an 18-year-old store employee grabbed the suspect, but was not able to keep hold of the suspect. The 78-year-old woman told Officers her purse was returned to her and the suspect fled. The 78-year-old woman described the suspect to Officers as a white man about 30 years of age, about 5 feet 10 inches tall, clean shaven with blonde hair and wore jeans and a brown coat with a hood.

Corpus Christi Police responded to a call for a burglary in progress at 3035 Ayers Street at about 4:07am Sunday morning after the front door window was smashed. Officers found 17-year-old Victor Rodriguez (1/13/1996) nearby and arrested Rodriguez for evading arrest and for the burglary of a building to 3035 Ayers Street. Officers connected Rodriguez to a burglary of a nearby vehicle and discovered Rodriguez had an active warrant for his arrest for possession of marijuana. Rodriguez was then delivered to the city detention center.

The Corpus Christi Police Department are investigating an aggravated robbery that happened Saturday morning at a restaurant located at 4444 East Causeway Boulevard. A 52-year-old man told Officers he is an employee at the restaurant and an unknown man went into the store at about 1:40am, displayed a weapon, and demanded cash. The 52-year-old man told Officers the suspect hit him on the head which caused a small cut, and then escorted the 52-year-old man to the back to gather money. The 52-year-old man told Officers the suspect gathered the money and left. The 52-year-old man was treated for minor injuries at the scene. The 52-year-old man described the suspect to Officers as a male who wore a gray or light green long sleeve hoodie, blue jeans, tennis shoes and a ski mask.
