RACING LEADS TO ARREST

On 11-16-24, while patrolling the downtown area, CCPD officers observed 3 motorcycles in the 300 block of Shoreline Blvd. The motorcycles were observed driving recklessly and accelerating at a high speed in an attempt to outdistance each other.

Officers attempted a traffic stop on the motorcycles. Once motorcycle stopped while the other two evaded and fled the area.

The one motorcycle operator that stopped was arrested and taken into custody without incident.

The operator was identified as 28-year-old Clyde McDowell.

Mcdowel was transported to the City Detention Center where he was booked for Racing, Possession of Marijuana, and Unlawful carrying of a weapon. McDowell had a handgun on his person at the time of the offense/arrest.

His motorcycle was impounded.

PEELED OUT, WENT TO JAIL

On 11-16-24 at about 12:25 am CCPD officers observed a vehicle exit a private drive in the 100 block of N. Shoreline Blvd. As the vehicle exited it accelerated quickly in order to swerve intentionally causing the vehicle to jerk violently from side to side and lane to lane.

The driver obviously disregarded the safety of other motorists on the roadway by this dangerous and poor judgement act.

The driver was stopped on Coopers Alley and placed under arrest for reckless driving.

35-year-old Jesus Garcia was transported to the city detention Center. His vehicle was impounded.

RECKLESS SHORELINE ARREST

On 11-15-24 at about 9:22 pm CCPD officers observed a group of motorcycles at a red light at Shoreline Blvd and Lawrence St. When the light changed to green one solo motorcycle accelerated at a vey high rate of speed and began to dangerously weave in and out of vehicles as they passed. The other motorcycles did not follow.

The solo motorcycle stopped in the 900 block of N. Shoreline Blvd. Officers contacted the motorcycle operator and placed him under arrest for reckless driving.

27-year-old Joshua Martinez was then transported to the City Detention Center. His motorcycle was impounded.

RACERS GO TO JAIL

On 11-15-24 at about 8:34 pm CCPD officers were in the downtown area when they observed two vehicles stopped in the roadway in front of the main police station side by side.

Officers observed both vehicles accelerate at a high rate of speed in a side-by-side competition. The race was cut short when the drivers noticed a police unit at the traffic light.

A traffic stop was conducted on both vehicles. Both drivers were arrested for racing on the roadway.

56-year-old Graceala Leos and 31-year-old Eduardo Soto were transported to the City Detention Center for booking. Both vehicles involved were impounded.

DOUBLE DOWTOWN ARREST

On 11-15-24 at about 7:22 pm CCPD officers observed 2 motorcycles in the 500 block of N. Shoreline Blvd traveling south bound. The motorcycles were observed weaving in and out of vehicle traffic at a high rate of speed and obviously traveling faster than the posted speed limit.

A traffic stop was conducted on both the motorcycles at Park St. and Shoreline Dr. Both motorcycle operators were placed under arrest for reckless driving.  

23-year-old Ronin Lathrop and 25-year-old Brenden Lloyd were arrested and transported to the City Detention Center for booking. The two motorcycles were impounded.

NVID RAIDS MID-TOWN GAME ROOM

Detectives with the Corpus Christi Police Department’s Narcotics and Vice Investigations Division (NVID) served a search warrant Thursday afternoon at a mid-town business resulting in the arrest of one woman on illegal gambling and engaging in organized crime charges.  Responding to a tip of illegal gambling taking place inside the Morgan Entertainment Game Room, 1302 Morgan Avenue, NVID Detectives initiated a months-long investigation which culminated with the issuance of a search warrant for the premises.  As a result of the investigation and search, officers arrested Rebecca Pelaez, age 64, Engaging in Organized Criminal Activity, a state jail felony punishable by up to two years in jail and a maximum $10,000 fine.  In addition, Pelaez was charged with Gambling Promotion, Keeping a Gambling Place, and Possession of a Gambling Device.  Pelaez was also charged with violating the Nueces County Game Room ordinance, a Class A misdemeanor.  Eight patrons of the game room were issued citations for gambling and released at the scene.  During the search, Detectives seized a substantial amount of gambling equipment and over $4,800.00 cash.  CCPD Detectives were assisted on this operation by an agent with the Texas Comptroller’s Office, which monitors coin operated machines. No violations were found.

The investigation is ongoing and additional arrests are anticipated.  The Corpus Christi Police Department reminds citizens that game rooms which pay out cash rewards are engaging in illegal gambling. Patrons as well as the management of these establishments should expect to face criminal charges. The Corpus Christi Police Department continues to collaborate with our local state and federal partners to investigate and combat illegal gambling. Investigators will continue to enforce all Texas gambling laws, which will help accomplish our mission to reduce crime, reduce the fear of crime and to improve the quality of life in our community.

MURDER SUSPECT ARRESTED

On Thursday, November 14, 2024, at around 7pm, U.S. Marshals Gulf Coast Violent Offenders Fugitive Task Force Officers and the Corpus Christi Police Department Gang Unit apprehended an armed and dangerous subject who was wanted for Murder out of Arlington, Texas.

Wanted subject, Marshall McLemore, was located at the 4600 block of Marie Street, and taken into custody for the outstanding murder warrant. During the arrest, McLemore was in possession of a handgun and illicit narcotics and additionally charged.

54th CITIZENS POLICE ACADEMY ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS

The Corpus Christi Police Department is currently accepting applications for the 54th Citizen’s Police Academy! The deadline to apply is December 15, 2024.

The Citizen’s Police Academy is a 12-week program designed to gain firsthand knowledge of police responsibility. The program will include a ride-along with a patrol officer. Classes will include presentations from SWAT, Gang, Bomb, Dive, K9s, Drones and so much more!

Classes will be every Thursday from 6:30pm-9:30pm, beginning on January 16, 2025, with graduation on April 3, 2025.

Reckless Driver Arrested

On November 13, 2024, at approximately 5:29 pm Corpus Christi Police Officers contacted offender Jonathan Ruth at the 1000 block of Lipan St. Ruth was arrested for 3 outstanding warrants related to a reckless driving incident that was video recorded on Shoreline drive on November 9, 2024.

Ruth was booked and charged with Reckless Driving, Collision involving damage to vehicle, and False report to a peace officer. His damaged vehicle was also impounded.

The Corpus Christi Police Department takes the safety and security of our citizens seriously and want to remind the public this behavior will not be tolerated.

NO ACTIVE SHOOTER

Update 3:19pm:

At approximately 3:06pm on Wednesday, November 13, 2024, a report of an active shooter was called in for Christus Spohn Shoreline Hospital.

The hospital was cleared by police personnel. We can confirm that there is no threat to the hospital and there are no injuries. We can also confirm that this was called in by an elderly patient who believed they heard gunshots.

The safety and security of our citizens is our highest priority.
