ADDITIONAL CHARGES FILED ON APARTMENT BURGLAR

Corpus Christi Police Department Special Victims Unit Detectives have obtained two additional Burglary warrants for Jamille Dejuan Harris, the 25-year-old man arrested early Sunday morning after CCPD drone operators observed him attempting to break into an apartment on the 3800 block of Caravelle Parkway. Following his arrest, SVU Detectives interviewed Harris and obtained a search warrant for his apartment, which was located within the same complex where he was arrested. As a result, Detectives obtained additional evidence that connected Harris to two prior burglaries at a nearby apartment complex.

On March 16th, at approximately 5:00 am, officers responded to a report of a home invasion at an apartment located on the 3900 block of Montego Street. The victim, a 21-year-old woman, told officers that while asleep in her bedroom, she was suddenly awakened by someone touching her. The victim screamed and the suspect fled the darkened bedroom, through the living room and out the open sliding glass doors to the patio. The victim’s mother, who was awakened by her daughter’s screams, stated the suspect was wearing a dark colored hooded sweatshirt.

On March 21, a 21-year-old woman told officers that an unknown suspect entered her apartment, located on the 3900 block of Holly Road, through an unlocked sliding glass door sometime between 2:00 AM and 9:00 AM. Once inside, the suspect stole her purse, her husband’s wallet, cell phone and large amount of cash, then fled without being detected. Detectives obtained surveillance video of a possible suspect from a nearby apartment but were unable to identify the suspect at that time.

SVU Detectives on Monday served Harris with these two additional burglary warrants, each with a $750,000 bond, at the Nueces County Jail, where he remains in custody. Detectives continue to follow leads and examine physical evidence from over a dozen similar burglaries over the past sixteen months. This case is an active investigation and further charges are likely. Anyone with information regarding this series of crimes is encouraged to call the Criminal Investigation Division at (361) 826-2840.
