Corpus Christi Police Traffic Investigators continue to search for a hit and run vehicle that fled the scene of a fatal crash in the 7500 block of State Highway 358 just after 9 PM Saturday night.
The crash investigation revealed that a 21 year old female victim was driving west on the freeway when she lost a mattress out of the back of her black Dodge Ram truck. The victim, and a female friend, who was following her in another vehicle, stopped to retrieve the mattress that blew out. While she was in the process of pulling it out of the roadway, she was struck by a vehicle.
The victim’s female friend told Officers that the vehicle that struck her friend was a white small SUV driven by a man with dark skin tones and he had a female passenger with him. The hit and run vehicle had major damage to the front end and the air bags were deployed.
The driver then left the scene, going west on the access road, toward Rodd Field Road. It was making noises when it drove off due the damage it sustained in the crash.
The female that was struck, was transported to Spohn Memorial Hospital by CCFD EMS and died at 9:10 PM on Monday.
