Safety Tips: Stay Alert!!

Jugging is a term used to describe a crime in which someone carrying money is followed from one location to another. Typically, victims are followed from banks to another location and the offender either burglarizes the victim’s vehicle or robs them.

Jugging Safety Tips

CCPD wants to spread awareness of this crime and recommends following these safety tips:

  1. Always be vigilant of your surroundings and stay alert, especially when withdrawing money from your bank or ATM. If something looks suspicious or you feel you are being followed, call the police.
  2. If you are transporting large sums of money, do not make any detours or stops en route to your destination. Get your money to a safe and secure location as quickly as you can.
  3.  Always keep your money in an envelope or secure bag and on you at all times. Never leave your money in your vehicle, especially if it is in plain sight. If criminals are jugging you, a smash and grab is very common.
  4. Be on the lookout for individuals backed into parking spaces, who do not exit their vehicle to conduct business.
  5. Be vigilant when using ATMs, as they typically target individuals using ATMs. Also, individuals leaving the branch should exercise caution as they could also be targeted.
  6. Be vigilant when arriving and departing. Be aware of your surroundings and don’t leave your car or the building if you observe suspicious vehicles parked in or around the parking lot.
  7. Conceal your money before you leave the bank/credit union.
  8. Don’t openly carry bank bags, envelopes or coin boxes.
  9. Watch for people following you.
  10. If you think you are being targeted/followed, call 911 and keep the dispatcher on the line to describe your location, where you are headed, etc. and keep driving until a marked police car finds you.
  11. Make banking the last stop of your errands.

Again pay attention to your surroundings, stay alert and if you feel you are being targeted call 911.
