RECKLESS SHORELINE ARREST

On 11-15-24 at about 9:22 pm CCPD officers observed a group of motorcycles at a red light at Shoreline Blvd and Lawrence St. When the light changed to green one solo motorcycle accelerated at a vey high rate of speed and began to dangerously weave in and out of vehicles as they passed. The other motorcycles did not follow.

The solo motorcycle stopped in the 900 block of N. Shoreline Blvd. Officers contacted the motorcycle operator and placed him under arrest for reckless driving.

27-year-old Joshua Martinez was then transported to the City Detention Center. His motorcycle was impounded.

RACERS GO TO JAIL

On 11-15-24 at about 8:34 pm CCPD officers were in the downtown area when they observed two vehicles stopped in the roadway in front of the main police station side by side.

Officers observed both vehicles accelerate at a high rate of speed in a side-by-side competition. The race was cut short when the drivers noticed a police unit at the traffic light.

A traffic stop was conducted on both vehicles. Both drivers were arrested for racing on the roadway.

56-year-old Graceala Leos and 31-year-old Eduardo Soto were transported to the City Detention Center for booking. Both vehicles involved were impounded.

DOUBLE DOWTOWN ARREST

On 11-15-24 at about 7:22 pm CCPD officers observed 2 motorcycles in the 500 block of N. Shoreline Blvd traveling south bound. The motorcycles were observed weaving in and out of vehicle traffic at a high rate of speed and obviously traveling faster than the posted speed limit.

A traffic stop was conducted on both the motorcycles at Park St. and Shoreline Dr. Both motorcycle operators were placed under arrest for reckless driving.  

23-year-old Ronin Lathrop and 25-year-old Brenden Lloyd were arrested and transported to the City Detention Center for booking. The two motorcycles were impounded.

INFANT DEATH ARREST

On October 18, 2024, at about 7:45 pm officers were flagged down by a male near Ennis Joslin and McArdle Rd. The officers were actively working a minor accident scene when the male approached them. A female also came running up to the officers. It was determined there was an unresponsive infant in a nearby apartment complex. Dispatch advised there were other calls coming in about the same unresponsive infant.

Officers then went to the 7500 block of McArdle Rd to the apartment complex and located several family members along with an unresponsive infant in an apartment.

The infant was transported to a local hospital by CCFD medics where she was pronounced deceased. There was also a 1-year-old male infant inside of the apartment complex. He was checked out by medics and had no injuries.

Family Violence Investigators were called out to investigate. The father of the deceased infant was transported to the main police station for interviewing.

During the investigation it was determined the father, Juan Castro (31) would be charged with Injury to a child/causes serious bodily injury and abandoned/endangering a child.

This case remained an active investigation.  

HOLLY RD CRASH LEADS TO DWI ARREST

On October 5, 2024, at about 6:31 AM officers were dispatched to the area of Holly Rd. and Flynn Parkway in reference to a major vehicle crash. Updates stated there was a bicycle or moped under a vehicle that was leaving the scene and causing sparks.

Officers arrived in the area and located a black SUV that was involved at the corner store at Holly Rd and Everhart Rd. A damaged moped was still under the SUV. The store was east of the crash location.

Officers contacted the driver of the vehicle. The driver showed signs of intoxication.

Officers checked the area of Holly Rd and Flynn Parkway and located the moped operator who had been struck. The 58-year-old male was transported to a local hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

During the investigation the driver of the black SUV was placed under arrest for Intoxication Assault w/vehicle (causes serious bodily injury).

The driver, 42-year-old Corri Ortiz, was then transported to a local hospital for medical clearance. She was then taken to the City Detention Center for booking.  

SHOOTING ON ARCHER DR.

On September 07, 2024, at about 10:59 pm officers were dispatched to the 4700 block of Archer Dr. in reference to a shooting. While officers were enroute to the house updates stated the victim was now at a local hospital.

Officers arrived at both the residence and the hospital.

While at the hospital Officers were told by the 17-year-old male victim that his twin brother accidentally shot him while mishandling a shotgun. He sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

At the home a parent showed officers where the incident occurred. Officers were able to recover 3 firearms and a quantity of narcotics. One firearm was reported stolen.

This is an active investigation. There were no arrests made at the time.

SHOTS FIRED DOWNTOWN

On August 24, 2024, at about 1:20 AM CCPD officers were dispatched to the area of 700 N. Chapparal St. in reference to a shooting. Updates stated there were multiple shots fired and a subject lying in the roadway.

Officers arrived on scene and located a 26-year-old male victim on the ground who had severe head injuries. CCFD arrived and transported that victim to a local hospital. It was determined the injuries were from blunt force and not a gunshot wound.

Multiple officers arrived on the scene to assist. They contacted several involved parties and witnesses.

While on scene a female suspected to be involved arrived at a local hospital with a single gunshot wound to her leg. Her injuries were non-life threatening. Officers arrived at that hospital and contacted her as well.

After speaking to witnesses and reviewing security cameras, officers were able to determine an altercation occurred in a nearby establishment. When the involved individuals were leaving a fight broke out in the roadway.

26-year-old Jakob Martinez had struck the victim several times with a weapon. 23-year-old Serena Alonzo and 26-year-old Maria Alonzo were also seen assaulting the victim while he was on the ground.

Witnesses attempted to stop Martinez, but he recklessly fired several shots from a weapon, accidentally striking Maria Alonzo in the leg.

Officers on scene were able to locate Martinez and Serena Alonzo and place them into custody. Officers placed Maria Alonzo into custody once she was treated and medically cleared from the hospital. The weapon used was recovered.

All three were arrested and charged with Aggravated assault /causes serious bodily injury. Maritnez was additional charged with Aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

There were several others involved in this incident. Some have been identified and some have not.

EARLY MORNING BURGLARY

On July 28, 2024, at about 7:51 am CCPD officers were dispatched to the 7000 block of Brandon Dr. in reference to a residential burglary. The homeowner who called in stated he shot an intruder who had broken into his home.

When officers arrived, they located a deceased male inside the home.

Investigators with the Robbery Homicide Division were called to investigate.

At this time this an active and ongoing investigation.

SHOOTING ON BUFORD ST.

On June 28, 2024, at approximately 12:29 AM officers were dispatched to the 2600 block of Buford St. in reference to a shooting. Officers arrived on scene and located a deceased 18-year-old male in the roadway. Officers secured the scene.  

Detectives with the Robbery Homicide Division arrived to assist.

This is an active investigation. Officers will be searching for any potential witnesses or security cameras in the area.

Deceased Body Located

On June 15, 2024, at about 8:20 am, while searching the area of 9600 Hearns Ferry Rd, the Corpus Christi Police Department along with specialized K-9 units located a body matching that of recent missing person Tanya Garza.

 The body was located in a gated area surround by thick heavy brush.

 The medical examiner has been contacted and will ultimately confirm the identity of the individual located.

This is still an ongoing investigation.
