FATHER ARRESTED; CHARGED WITH ABAN/END CHILD AND DRIVING WHILE INTOXICATED WITH CHILD

At approximately 2:30 pm on Wednesday, May 17, 2018, Officers were dispatched to a day care center located on Everhart Rd for a welfare call. Updates to the call provided that an intoxicated subject had arrived at the day care in an effort to pick up his infant child.  Day care employees advised that the male walked into the classroom and picked up the infant child and attempted to leave.  Day care employees observed that the male appeared to be under the influence and attempted to keep the child at the day care by attempting to distract the male while Police were called.  The Father left the day care with the child, while employees provided information to Dispatch.

Upon arrival at the day care, officers gathered information from the workers which would prove helpful in locating the Father.  Officers searched the area and followed up at the residence where the vehicle returned to.  Once at the home, Officers discovered that the infant child was inside of the vehicle, which was off and locked.  Officers noted that the infant was secured in the car seat, crying and sweating heavily.  Officers immediately broke the window in an effort to rescue the infant.  Medics arrived on scene shortly after and immediately transported the infant to Driscoll Children’s Hospital for follow-up care.

Officers attempted to make contact with the Father who they were able to observe asleep on a couch inside of the home. Officers were able to eventually wake up the male after several attempts of knocking on the door. When questioned about the infant, the male advised that the infant was inside of the bedroom in a crib and then later advised that the child was with the Mother.

Officers advised that the male appeared to be under the influence of an intoxicating beverage and after several standardized field sobriety tests were completed, the male was placed in custody.

Officers arrested Brian Raburn (11/19/1975) and charged him with Abandoning/Endangering a Child Imminent Danger Bodily Injury (2F) and Driving while Intoxicated with Child (SJF).

S/O Steven Moran and S/O Arnold Guerra are commended for their follow-up in locating this child.  Without their thorough investigation on this call, the child may have suffered serious bodily injury or death.

The child was transported to Driscoll Children’s Hospital and left in the care of emergency staff.
