Wanted Fugitive

Jose Ortega

Police are asking for the public’s assistance in locating Jose Luis Ortega (9-30-1971). He is wanted on two counts of Failure to Register as a Sex Offender. Charges stem from an Aggravated Sexual Assault in February of 1990, in which he was convicted.

Ortega has been on the run for over a year.

Yard Equipment Bandits Go to Jail

Units received a call for stolen lawn equipment, an Echo blower and an edger. The victim was able to give the Officer a good description of both the suspects and the vehicle they were driving.

While checking the area Officers located Brandon Portillo (7/10/1993) and Javier Pena (1/23/1991) at the Gold and Things Pawn Shop attempting to pawn the Echo blower. The edger was still in the bed of the truck.

Both Portillo and Pena were arrested for Theft. The blower and edger were released to the owner.

Major Accident Involving a Pedestrian

Units responded to major accident involving a pedestrian. When they arrived the driver of the vehicle told Officers that he was driving West on McArdle when he struck the child, who happened to be in the roadway. The driver of the vehicle told Officers that he never saw the child.

According to the child’s guardian, the three-year old was playing in the back yard and managed to exit the yard through a hole in the fence. He then attempted to cross the street and was struck by the vehicle.

The child was transported to Driscoll Children’s Hospital by his guardian to be treated for minor injuries.

The driver of the vehicle was not cited.

Forged Traveler’s Checks Lead to Arrest

Officers responded to La Palmera Mall after receiving a call for two individuals being detained by mall security for having used an altered travelers’ check.

Upon investigating the allegations, Officers learned that Teniqua Moffatte (2-9-1988) and Marcus Bailey(5-26-1972), both of Georgia, had visited several stores in the mall and used forged traveler’s check to make their purchases.

After having been arrested Moffatte told Officer’s that she had her pet dog in the vehicle which was parked in the mall parking lot. Officer’s then located her vehicle and impounded it. During the impound inventory Officers located 53 forged traveler’s checks as well as several other shopping bags from various stores in Corpus Christi and other cities around the state.

Both Moffatte and Bailey were arrested. The vehicle was impounded and the dog was released to Animal Control.

Aggravated Assault (Drive-by) 2800 Topeka

Units responded to the 2800 blk. of Topeka reference a drive -by. When Officers arrived and spoke to witnesses they learned  that someone in a silver Honda had shot several times in the direction of the victim, while he was standing between two homes.

It does not appear that anyone was struck by the shots. Officers on scene recovered 3 shell casings on the roadway.

Cruzin’ in the Fast Lane

While on patrol, at 2 o’clock in the morning, units saw a vehicle drive behind Best Buy so they went to investigate. Upon doing so, they saw Jason Overstreet (11-2-71) standing beside the vehicle. When Overstreet saw the patrol car, he reached into his pocket, retrieved something, and then ducked back into the vehicle as if to hide the item. Officers ordered him to show his hands, Jason complied with the officers’ commands. Officers then saw a bag in his possession. Jason attempted to place the bag back into his pockets but it fell to the ground exposing its contents.

Officers found the bag to contain 19 grams of methamphetamine (Ice). Overstreet was arrested and charged with Manufacture & Delivery of a Controlled Substance, Tampering with Evidence and Poss. of a Controlled Substance.

Officers then contacted the driver, Heather Moore (7-11-81). Upon doing so they located drug paraphernalia in her possession. She was arrested and charged with Possession of Drug Paraphernalia and Possession of a Controlled Substance.

Police need your help in identifying the individual that stole three (3) surveillance cameras from the City/County Health Dept. located at 1702 Horne Rd.

The surveillance footage, from the very cameras the individual stole, shows the subject using a rope to lasso the cameras and tear then from the mounting brackets. He continues his action with two other cameras that are attached to the building.

The individual is described as Medium build male wearing a camouflaged ball cap, a long sleeve button down work style shirt, and jeans.

Stripes Robbery

Robbery Investigators are asking for the public’s assistance in identifying the individuals responsible for a Robbery that occurred on Oct. 9 at 2:45 am at the Stripes store located at 11201 IH 37 access Rd. southbound.

The witness, an off-duty Constable, told police that the suspect came into the store and grabbed two (2) 18 packs of Bud Light Beer and began to walk toward the counter. The clerk then advised the individual that he could not purchase the items due to the time of day. The suspect got upset and attempted to leave the store without paying for the items. At this time the off duty officer intervened and told the subject to put down the items, that is when the subject struck the officer and a scuffle ensued.

After the short scuffle, the subject managed to get away and leave the store. A few seconds later, a second subject came to the front door of the Stripes and verbally threatened the Officer with his life.

Both subjects then fled the store location in a small black passenger car.

The first subject is described as a white male in his late teens or early twenties wearing a black ball cap, white t-shirt, and jeans.

The second individual is described as a white male in his late teens or early twenties wearing an orange shirt and blue jean shorts.

Aggravated Robbery 3238 Buddy Lawrence

Robbery Investigators are asking for the public’s assistant in identifying the individual responsible for an Aggravated Robbery that occurred on Oct. 9 shortly after 2 am at the Stripes store located at 3238 Buddy Lawrence.

 A witness told police that the suspect came into the store and waited until all the other customers left. The suspect then approached the clerk behind the counter and displayed a steak knife as he demanded the money from the register.

 He is described as a Hispanic male 5’ 8” tall around 180 lbs. with Black hair and Brown eyes. He had tattoo sleeves on both arms, a thin goatee and thick Black eye brows. At the time of the robbery, he was wearing a dark Blue t-shirt, Black jeans and Black tennis shoes.

 After the robbery, he then fled the store on foot towardNandina St.
