Two 18-Year-Olds Charged with Auto Burglary

Officers responded to the 6200 block of Vincent for an auto burglary in progress.  The caller stated two Hispanic males were driving away in a light-colored truck and provided the truck’s license plate. The suspects were last seen on westbound on Erskine Drive.

An off-duty Corpus Christi Independent School District Police Officer observed the truck at the intersection of Airline Road and S. Padre Island Drive and recognized one of the occupants later identified as Adolfo Huerta. An Officer was able to find the truck and pull it over at Gollihar Road and Ayers Street.

Adolfo Huerta (10/18/94) and Bruce Garcia (12/18/93) were detained. Further investigation revealed, the suspects had burglarized several vehicles in the area and struck a neighbor’s vehicle as they fled.  Officers were able to match the property found in the vehicle to property reported stolen by the victims.

The property consisted of tools, electronic equipment, jewelry, and a gun.  The recovered stolen property was tagged as evidence and will be returned to the owners.

Man Trying to Buy Drugs Assaulted, One Man Jailed

Police were called to the Cactus Motel for an assault, but once contacted by CCPD and CCFD Emergency Personnel, the victim was found not to have any injuries.  Further investigation revealed the 58-year-old male was assaulted by two men as he attempted to buy drugs from one of the maintenance men.  He was unable to provide a description of the suspects.

The victim was taken to his motel room, but again called Police to report the robbery.  Offices were able to contact the maintenance man, Jerry Edwin Wilkey (10/09/52) who was found to be in possession of Crack Cocaine, Marijuana, and  a couple of crack pipes.

Wilkey was arrested and charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance and Possession of Marijuana along with Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

Motorcyclist Critically Injured in Overnight Accident

Police were called to a major accident involving a blue four-door Suzuki Forenza and a black Suzuki Colt motorcycle.  A witness told Officers the motorcycle was traveling southbound on Roddfield when the Forenza made a left hand onto a private drive.  As he began his turn, the 26-year-old driver saw the outline of the motorcycle and swerved to avoid hitting the motorcyclist.  He told Officers the motorcycle did not have its light on.  It was later discovered the motocycle did not have a headlight.

The 21-year-old motorcyclist was rushed to Spohn Memorial with head and back injuries.  As of last night he was in Critical Condition at Memorial’s Intensive Care Unit.  The driver of the Forenza was uninjured.

Traffic Accident Investigators were called to assist and they will be conducting accident investigation.  At this time, the accident is still under investigation and no charges have been filed or citations issued.

“We encourage all our driving public to look out for motorcyclist and we also encourage all  motorcyclists to wear helmets and proper safety equipment,” implored Captain Edward Shannon.

Missing Man Found, Arrested

Corpus Christi Police Officers have located Randle William Morris two days after he was reported missing.  On November 8, 2012, an Officer found Morris a block away from where he had originally been reported missing.

Morris who was drinking a beer appeared to be intoxicated.  He was placed under arrest and booked at the City Detention Center.   Morris was charged with Public Intoxication and Open Container & Consumption in Certain Areas.  Both are Class “C” Misdemeanors and punishable by up to a $500 fine.

The Corpus Christi Police Department’s Financial Crimes Unit has received notice of a scam involving MoneyPak prepaid cards.

Did you receive a phone call or e-mail naming  you the winner of a foreign lottery?  Are they asking you to purchase a MoneyPak card?   If so, more than likely it’s a scam.

Don’t Walk that Way!

Off-Duty Officers working security at MaCaw’s were advised of a fight involving a man armed with a gun in the parking lot.  The Officers were told a man, later identified as Martin Lorenzo Figueroa Jr. (02/12/89) ran from the parking lot when he saw the Officers rushing over.  A female with Figueroa was detained as she attempted to drive off.  Officers found a firearm in the Lexus.

Further investigation revealed, a bar employee’s nephew walked in front of the Lexus Figueroa was driving and a disturbance ensued between the men.  Figueroa stepped out of the car and pointed a gun at the 56-year-old victim.

Officers searched for Figueroa and he was found hiding inside the Whataburger across the street.  Figueroa was arrested and charged with Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon which is a Second Degree Felony punishable by up to twenty years in prison and a $10,000 fine.  The woman was released and not charged.

Officer Pulls Over Vehicle Suspected of Human Smuggling

Adam District Officer J. Loftin pulled over a grey Pontiac Grand Prix for a traffic violation.  He contacted the driver 27-year-old female driver and her passengers.

During his investigation it was discovered the driver and passenger were being paid to take a 28-year-old woman and her children to Houston, TX.  The woman and her children were found to have entered the country illegally.

United States Customs and Border Protection Agents were called to assist and took over the investigation.  The three women and children were released into their custody.

Twenty-four hours later, Officer J. Loftin once more encountered another smuggling case which was a bit more dangerous than the previous day’s investigation.  The Officer observed a Oldsmobile Silhouette driving erratically and attempted to pull them over in a safe location.

The tan passenger van slowly pulled over and stopped when two Hispanic men jumped out and began running into the brush.  The driver opened his door to flee, but Officer Loftin ordered him to remain in the van.  The driver closed the driver’s side door and placed the van in reverse before bailing out of the vehicle. The van struck the Officer’s police car, but he was uninjured.

CCPD Officers with the assistance of United States Customs and Border Protection Agents searched for the men, but were unable to locate them.

CCPD Asks for the Community’s Help in Locating Disabled Man

Corpus Christi Police are searching for a disabled man who was last seen Tuesday, November 6, 2012 at 5:40pm at the Greyhound Bus Station.  Morris Randle William was separated from his traveling companion shortly after they their arrival at the bus station.  He came to Corpus Christi to be medically evaluated for a brain injury he suffered in a motorcycle accident.  His left arm is paralyzed and he walks with a limp.

Morris is a 57-year-old White man who is 6’1” feet tall, and weighs 180 pounds.  He has bushy brown hair and brown eyes.  He was last seen wearing a beige sweater, faded blue jeans, and white tennis shoes.

Additionally; the Corpus Christi Police Department would like the public to know there is no time period one must wait before reporting a person as missing.  If a person is missing and possibly in some kind of danger, call police immediately.

Man Seriously Injured in Three Vehicle Accident

Patrol Officers and Traffic Investigators responded to a three vehicle accident in the 12100 block of Leopard.  Upon their arrival, Officers found a maroon Chevrolet Trail Blazer and grey GMC Terrain in the intersection.  The third vehicle, a tan Ford F350 had left the roadway and struck an electrical pole.

Further investigation revealed the Ford pick-up truck that was traveling southbound on Callicoate ran the red light and struck the Trail Blazer who was headed eastbound on Leopard.  The impact caused the Trail Blazer to collide with the Terrain who was in the outside shoulder attempting to turn southbound onto Callicoate Road. The F350 continued until it crash into a utility pole, splitting it in half.

The 60-year-old driver of the Trail Blazer was rushed to Spohn Memorial with life-threatening injuries. The 49-year-old driver of the F-350 sustained minor injuries and also taken to the hospital.  A mandatory blood draw was taken due to the seriousness of the accident.  The 23-year-old driver of SUV along with her 4-year-old passenger would seek their own doctor for a medical evaluation.

The investigation is ongoing and will be conducted by Traffic Division Investigators. There have been no charges filed at this time.

 

 

Man and Woman Charged with Auto Burglary

Police were called to the Homewood Suites for several individuals checking door handles in the parking lot.  Upon the Officers arrival, a witness told them the two males and a female had left were last seen walking towards Ayers Street.

Officer contacted the three individuals and observed one of males drop a couple of credit cards to the ground along with a backpack containing GPS system, an iPod, and a watch.  The 17-year-old female was also found to have a GPS system inside her purse.  Bruce Garcia (12/18/93) and Aria Gutierrez (10/04/95) were detained.  The third male was later released.

The GPS system led Officers to the burglary victim in the 4800 block of Orchid.  The victim told Officers he had just finished reporting the burglary of his Chrysler Town and Country van online and provided them with a tracking number.   The credit cards found on Garcia had the victim’s and his wife’s name on them.

At the same time, another Officer was checking the address on the second GPS system and contacted a second victim who had reported her GPS stolen along with her iPod.  A third victim told Officers a pair of Versace sunglasses had been stolen and filed a police report about an hour before.  The sunglasses were also found in Garcia’s backpack.

Both Garcia and Gutierrez were arrested and charged with Burglary of a Vehicle which is a Class “A” Misdemeanor punishable by up to a year in jail and a $4,000 fine.  The stolen items were returned to the victims.
