Man Fleeing Police Captured as He Stumbles and Falls

Occurred on 6/13/12, 3:23 am  Theft of Firearm/Unlawful Possession of a Firearm  Winnebago Street/Port Avenue  12061300110 

An Officer driving on northbound on Port Avenue observed a male walking in the middle of the roadway and stopped to talk to him.  The male took off running as the Officer was getting out of his police car.  A short pursuit ensued which ended when Laclyde Ramsey (04/14/94) stumbled and fell.  The Officer quickly grabbed Ramsey who kept on struggling to get away.  Ramsey kept reaching for his pants pocket as he was being handcuffed.  Officers found a loaded firearm in his pocket.

Further investigation revealed, the weapon was reported stolen in a burglary.  Ramsey was arrested and charged with Evading Arrest, Resisting Arrest, Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, and Theft of a Firearm.

 

Drug Deal, Standoff Proves Unlucky Day for Victim

Occurred on 6/12/12, 5:45 p.m. Aggravated Assault 4518 Marie 1206120116

An Officer was waved down by the victim as he was driving down the 4100 block of S. Staple Street. The victim told Officers he was assaulted in the 4500 block of Marie where he stopped to buy pills. The victim unable to pay for all the pills upset his supplier named “Lucky” who pulled a knife. A standoff ensued when the victim also pulled a knife. Cooler heads prevailed and both dropped the knives.

Both men concluded their business and the victim entered the residence in order to take his pills. Once inside, “Lucky” grabbed a pipe and began to assault the victim, striking him in the head and upper body. The victim was able to get away and contact police.  The victim refused to be treated for his injuries.

Damsel In Distress Disappears, One Man Jailed

Occurred on 6/13/12, 01:17 am  Aggravated Assault  5217 S. Padre Island Drive  1206130004 

Police were called to intervene in a disturbance involving a knife at TGI Friday’s located at 5217 S. Padre Island Drive.  Officers detained the suspect Jesus Jimenez (09/15/86) who was involved in an altercation with another patron at the restaurant.   

The victim told Officers he observed Jimenez push a female and when he interceded, he was assaulted also.  Jimenez pulled a knife making threatening gestures at the victim who jumped back to prevent being stabbed.   

Witnesses confirmed the victim’s account and Jimenez was arrested.  He was charged with Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon a 2nd degree felony punishable by up to 20 years in prison and a $10,000 fine.  Officers were unable to identify the woman involved in the original assault as she left prior to their arrival.

Man Runs Out of Local Store with TV

Occurred on  6/12/12, 8:38 a.m.  Theft  6101 Saratoga   1206120025 

A Wal-Mart employee reported to Officers a man entered the store through the south entrance of the store and walked to the electronics display area.  The man grabbed a television set and ran out to his truck which he conveniently parked just outside the entrance.  The man was able to escape with a 40” LCD TV valued at $448. 

The suspect is described a White male, 20 to 25 years of age, 5’7” to 6” feet tall, and weighing 130 lbs.  He was last fleeing in a 1998 Dodge Ram pick-up truck.

Two Women Arrested, Charged with Child Endangerment

 

Occurred on 6/11/12, 10:47 p.m.  Endangering a Child/Reckless Driving   Braggs and Sweeney Drives, 1206110179 

Police responded to a moving disturbance in which a which a witness was following a gold Jeep Cherokee which was involved in vandalizing a truck in the Crosswinds Apartment parking  lot.  Officers caught up to the vehicles at Weber Road and Caravelle Parkway observing the Cherokee swerving in and around other motorist as it sped away.  The Cherokee ran the red light at Caravelle Parkway and Weber at Holly Road.  

Officers were able to pull the vehicle over in the 4000 block of Montego Drive.  Both the driver Vanessa Elena Morin (12/09/91) and the passenger Valerie Trevino (03/08/91) were detained.  Officers also found five children, six months, 2, 3, and 4, and another two-year old in the back seat area.  Two of the children aged 2 and 3 were unrestrained.  Further investigation revealed Trevino had smashed the truck’s windshield in retaliation for an assault.  The truck’s owner had assaulted Morin’s sister.  Morin also struck the exit gate at the complex as she drove off. 

Morin and Trevino were both arrested and charged with Criminal Mischief and Endangering a Child.  Morin was additionally charged with Reckless Driving.  The Criminal Mishchief is Class “A” Misdemeanor punishable by up to a year in jail and a fine of $4,000, while the Endangering a Child is a State Jail Felony and is punishable by up to two years in jail and a $10,000.

Trailer Vandalized

The 63-year-old victim reported to Officers his trailer was spray painted with graffiti sometime during weekend. The victim estimates $100 in damages to the trailer.

Man Exposes Himself to Bus Driver and Passengers

Occurred on 6/9/12, 6:36 p.m.  Indecent Exposure   Ayers Street and Horne Road 1206090124 

An off-duty Officer asked Manuel Rodriguez (05/14/55) to leave the bus stop at Port Ayers when he kept trying to get on a bus without any money.  Rodriguez walked away, but approximately 30 minutes later he stopped an RTA bus in the middle of the road in an attempt to get on the bus. The bus driver would not allow Rodriguez on the bus and he retaliated by dropping his pants and exposing himself to the bus driver and passengers.

Rodriguez was arrested and charged with Indecent Exposure.

Missing Man Found

The Corpus Christi Police Department would like to thank the public and the media’s assistance in trying to locate Claude Hallmark who had been reported missing by his daughter last week.  Detective R. Lee reports that 61-year-old Claude Wayne Hallmark was found to be in good health in Moriarty, New Mexico.

Two Injured in Drive By Shooting

While Officers were conducting their investigation into the drive by at 1714 Islla, the Police Department received a call for a drive by at 4701 Vestal Drive.  The caller reported multiple rounds were heard.  Upon their arrival, Officers found several casings in the roadway.  As the secured the crime scene, Officers heard several gun shots and Officers raced to locate the shooters. 

Call takers advised Officers that two vehicles in the area of Vestal and Garden were shooting at one another.  Officers located the two vehicles at 4701 Vestal and carefully approached the residence.  A man in the process of calling 911 began yelling at Officers that his brother and a friend had been shot.  The man’s 27-year-old brother was found sitting in the bed of a pick-up truck bleeding from his thigh.  Another male, 27, was found in a white Concord attempting to drive himself to the hospital.  He had sustained a gunshot wound to the stomach.  Both men were taken to Spohn Memorial with non-life threatening injuries.

The men told police a black or silver vehicle turned from Garden onto Vestal and began shooting.  They were unable to provide any additional information.  It unknown if the two drive bys were related at this time.  Both drive bys are currently being investigated by the Police Department’s Drive By Response Team.  Anyone with any information on this crime is encouraged to call Crime Stoppers at 888-TIPS or logon to www.888-TIPS.com.  Your tip will be taken in the strictest confidence and tips leading to the arrest of the suspects pay a cash reward up to $1,000.

 

Home Damaged by Gunfire in Early Morning Drive By

Officers working a drive by contacted the residents at 1714 Islla who reported their home and a vehicle parked in the driveway were struck by gunfire.  Officers found multiple shell casings on the roadway in front of 1710, 1714, and 1718 Islla.  A 47-year-old woman Officers everyone inside the home was asleep when they awoke to the sound of gunfire.  An elderly couple, both 74 years of age, and a 53-year-old man were also inside the home at the time of the drive by.  The victims were unable to provide Officers a motive or a description of the suspect or suspects.  All four residents were uninjured.

Multiple rounds struck the home, a trash can, and a storage shed as well as two cars parked in the driveway, a Nissan Sentra and a Kia Spectra.  The damage was estimated at 2,800.  The Drive By Response Team is currently investigating the drive by.  Anyone with any information on this crime is encouraged to call Crime Stoppers at 888-TIPS or www.888-TIPS.com.
