Man Steals Clothes From Store, Now Sought by Police

Corpus Christi Police Property Crimes Detectives would like help from the public to identify and locate a person accused of theft from a store located at 5425 South Padre Island Drive. Loss prevention employees made the complaint to the Corpus Christi Police of the series of thefts and provided images of the suspect who stole men’s clothing on June 3, 7, and 12. The employees told Officers they believe the same man conducted each of the thefts and described the suspect as a 20-year-old man with light-colored skin, about 5 feet 9 inches tall and about 160 pounds.

Corpus Christi Police arrested 51-year-old Billy Jost (12/7/1962) for Driving While Intoxicated after he was accused of striking five support beams of a hotel and causing a partial relocation of customers on the second floor of the building. Corpus Christi Police responded to a complaint of a hit and run crash at about 5pm at a hotel located at 5155 Interstate Highway 37. Officers learned a gray Chevy Silverado jumped the curb from a convenience store, went into the parking lot of the hotel, struck five support beams and two vehicles before the truck left the scene.
Officers located a damaged Chevy Silverado on the 1400 block of North Navigation and discovered a support post in the bed of the truck from the crash at the hotel. The Officers discovered the operator of the truck, 51-year-old Billy Jost, displayed indications he was intoxicated. Officers arrested Jost for Driving While Intoxicated and for failing to comply with the duty to provide information upon striking a vehicle. Officers then delivered Jost to the city detention center and impounded the truck. The hotel management relocated guests away from the affected portion of the building. No injuries were reported.

Corpus Christi Police arrested three people accused of stealing mail packages from the front doors of homes on the 5300 block of Carriage Lane Tuesday afternoon. Corpus Christi Police responded to the complaint at about 6pm Tuesday after a 30-year-old man told Officers he saw three people follow a UPS delivery truck and gather the packages after the delivery. Officers located the suspect vehicle and found a 15-year-old boy operating the red 1992 Chevy Silverado with two 18-year-old men as passengers. Officers discovered packages in the bed of the truck and arrested 18-year-old Emiliano Silva (10/24/1995) and 18-year-old Vincent Cornejo (9/11/1996) and then took the 15-year-old into custody all accused of theft. The Officers impounded the truck, delivered the two 18-year-old men to the city detention center and delivered the 15-year-old boy to the Nueces County Juvenile Detention Center. The Officers returned the packages to the homes and learned that one of the broken packages contained supplies for a medical patient at home confined to a bed.

Corpus Christi Police broke a window in the parking lot of Moore Plaza to rescue an infant locked in a vehicle Tuesday afternoon at 2:47pm. The 27-year-old woman locked her vehicle’s keys inside of her vehicle after she parked it in the Hobby Lobby parking lot. Her 10 month old daughter was still inside of her vehicle so she called the police for assistance. Officers arrived, approximately five minutes later, and they decided to break a window in order to get the baby out of the vehicle. The baby was sweating heavily, but otherwise not injured.

Corpus Christi Police Property Crimes Detectives would like help from the public to identify and locate the person responsible for a theft at 9850 Leopard Street on June 5, 2014. A 59-year-old woman reported the theft to Corpus Christi Police at 4:52pm and explained to the Officers that an unknown woman came into the store, loaded a cart full of merchandise, and left the store without paying for the merchandise. Detectives have obtained images of the suspect and would now like help from the public to identify the person responsible for the theft.

The 59-year-old woman described the suspect as a 40-year-old woman who stands about 5 feet 2 inches tall, weighs about 250 pounds, and wore sunglasses, a pink shirt, and black pants. Man Accuses Group of People Stealing Wine and Candy from Store

Corpus Christi Police Property Crimes Detectives would like help from the public to identify and locate five people responsible for theft from a convenience store located at 9602 South Padre Island Drive on May 29, 2014. A 27-year-old man reported the theft to the Corpus Christi Police and provided a video of five people who came into the store and stole wine and candy bars.

The 27-year-old man described the suspects as one woman with blonde hair and four men with dark hair. The 27-year-old man told Officers one of the men wore black shorts with a blue panel on the sides, a maroon shirt with white lettering and black slip on sandals with black socks. The 27-year-old man told Officers a second male suspect wore a gray shirt, khaki shorts and a black and white cap worn backwards. The 27-year-old man said the third male suspect wore a black shirt with a pink CB on the front with khaki shorts and black tennis shoes. The 27-year-old man told Officers the fourth male suspect wore a black tank top shirt with a Batman logo, khaki shorts and black tennis shoes. A video of the man in the Batman shirt has been posted which recorded the man take a bottle of wine from the store display, conceal the bottle underneath his clothing, and then walk out of the store without paying for the merchandise. Police Warn Public: Don’t Leave Firearms Unattended in Vehicles

The Corpus Christi Police Department has received 74 reports of firearms stolen from unattended vehicles so far in 2014. The Corpus Christi Police Auto Theft Task Force investigates the reports for burglary to vehicles and noticed 74 stolen firearms as of May 31, 2014. Corpus Christi Police Lieutenant Chris White, the supervisor of the Corpus Christi Police Auto Theft Task Force, said only three firearms have been recovered of those 74 stolen firearms.

The Corpus Christi Police Department recommends that owners not leave the firearms unattended in vehicles, but store the firearms in a locked safe inside a building.

The Corpus Christi Police Auto Theft Task Force reported the following data for 2014:

January – 6 firearms reported stolen from vehicles;

February – 7 firearms reported stolen from vehicles;

Mach – 18 firearms reported stolen from vehicles;

April – 24 firearms reported stolen from vehicles;

May – 19 firearms reported stolen from vehicles.

Corpus Christi Police Property Crimes Detectives would like help from the public to identify and locate the person who stole a potted plant worth $200 dollars from the CASA of the Coastal Bend on Sunday, May 11, 2014. A 49-year-old woman reported the theft and provided video of an unknown man who loaded the plant into a truck without any permission from the business. The man is described as a male with dark skin, about 5 feet 10 inches tall and wore a white sleeveless undershirt.

Vehicle Auction Sale Saturday at City Impound Lot

The city of Corpus Christi will auction 97 cars, trucks, and motorcycles at the four paved acres of the Corpus Christi Police Vehicle Impound Lot located at 5485 Greenwood Drive on Saturday, June 7, 2014 at 10:00am. The general public is allowed to register and view the vehicles for auction from 8:00am to 4:00pm on Friday, June 6. The general public can continue to register and view the vehicles from 8:00am to 10:00am on the day of the auction. The vehicle for auction may be viewed online and an auction list may be downloaded from www.siskauction.com.

There are 24 vehicles for auction that were seized for no insurance. The department’s strong stand and enforcement of this “Zero Tolerance No Insurance Initiative” will continue and all vehicles involved in accidents will be impounded and the driver cited if they are unable to provide financial proof of insurance. Driver’s license and proof of financial responsibility checkpoints will continue to be conducted at the Shift Captains’ authorization.

Police Conduct Death Investigation in Flour Bluff

Corpus Christi Police responded to a call for an unattended death at a mobile home park located at 901 Utica Street at 11:12am Friday morning. A caretaker arrived at the home and discovered a 57-year-old man had injuries and was deceased. Corpus Christi Police initiated a death investigation but have taken into consideration the circumstances such as the health history of the 57-year-old man and have not determined if the injuries were the cause of a criminal act or if they were accidental injuries. The Nueces County Medical Examiner’s Office collected the 57-year-old man and will perform an evaluation to determine the cause of the injuries and the cause of death. Corpus Christi Police Detectives continue to gather information to reach a conclusion whether or not this death was the result of a criminal act.

The Corpus Christi Police Bomb Squad were summoned to a store at 5645 Kostoryz Road to investigate a suspicious package Thursday morning. The Corpus Christi Police responded to a call of a suspicious package at 5:22 am after a customer alerted the store clerk of an unusual object outside the store. The clerk called Police and the store was evacuated. The responding Officers requested the Bomb Squad and then the intersection was closed to keep the public at a safe distance from the device while the technicians investigate the package.

The Technicians continue to investigate the device at the time of this report. The public is urged to avoid the Kostoryz and Holly intersection and those who reside in the area should remain indoors.

Update:

The Bomb Squad determined the package was not harmful at 10:50am and have sent the package for disposal. The intersection was reopened for normal use.

Police Search for Animal Cruelty Suspect on Johnston Drive

Corpus Christi Police are searching for a 38-year-old man who faces criminal charges for Aggravated Assault and Animal Cruelty on the 4700 block of Johnston Drive Tuesday afternoon. Corpus Christi Police responded to a disturbance at a home located at the 4700 block of Johnston Drive at 2:41pm. Officers were provided information that the 38-year-old man killed a dog and threatened family members with a knife. Corpus Christi Police Officers got two people out of the house and then discovered the 38-year-old man had left the house prior to law enforcement arrival.

Officers learned no person was injured, but a dead dog was collected and the Officers began the search for the 38-year-old man. Witnesses to the event told Officers that the 38-year-old man may be under the influence of hallucinogenic narcotics and was armed with a knife. Witnesses to the event described the 38-year-old man to Officers as a bald male with multiple tattoos, and he wore no shirt, red plaid shorts, and no shoes and left on foot from the home. Officers continue to search for the 38-year-old man and urge anyone to call 911 immediately if they believe they spot the 38-year-old man. Officers believe the man is in the area between Ayers and Kostoryz and between South Padre Island Drive and Horne.

Update:

The Corpus Christi Police arrested 37-year-old Carlos Villanueva (7/22/1976) on the 1300 block of Elgin Street for aggravated assault and animal cruelty and then delivered him to the city detention center.
