Men Commit Daytime Burglary To A Vehicle At Convenience Store

Date: Saturday, November 12, 2016, 13:06
Location: 4754 South Padre Island Drive
Offense: Burglary of a Motor Vehicle
Case Number: 1611120071

Corpus Christi Police are investigating a burglary of a vehicle that happened Saturday afternoon at a convenience store on South Padre Island Drive which has similar traits to a crime trend that happened last year in Corpus Christi.

A 32 year old woman reported the burglary at a convenience store located at  Everhart and South Padre Island Drive to Corpus Christi Police on Saturday. The 32 year old woman told Officers she went to a bank to make a cash withdrawal for the business for which she is employed. The 32 year old woman explained that she left the bank and stopped at the convenience store and left the bank bag in her vehicle when she went inside the store. The 32 year old woman told Officers that while the vehicle was unattended, two unknown men broke the window to her vehicle and stole the bank bag full of cash.

A 26 year old man in the parking lot confronted to two unknown men, and the 26 year old man told Officers one of the suspects threatened to shoot him for the intervention. The 32 year old woman told Officers the unknown men left in a white 2004 Nissan Murano with paper tags. The 32 year old woman provided Officers with the tag number and Officers determined the vehicle is registered to a person in Houston, Texas.

No injuries were reported. Corpus Christi Police Detectives are working with the bank and the convenience store and other locations to gather video and images of the suspects, but those images are not available at the time of this post.

Corpus Christi was targeted for this type of crime early last year and the Police Department responded with a massive public information effort, enhanced bank patrols, and undercover special assignments. Some of the offenders were identified and it was confirmed that they were part a well-organized street crimes gang from Houston.

Everyone, especially business employees, are encouraged to be very aware and vigilant when leaving the bank after any transaction.   It appears that the preferred method of the criminal is to follow the person from the bank and then take the money from a vehicle if the money is left in an unattended vehicle.  These types of criminals will also approach people to forcibly take the money if it was not left in the vehicle. If you make a withdrawal from a bank, and then notice someone is following you, call Corpus Christi Police immediately at 886-2600 or call 911.

Anyone who can identify anyone involved in this burglary, or has any additional information about this crime should call Crime Stoppers at 888-TIPS or submit the information online at http://www.888TIPS.com. Crime Stoppers guarantees to keep the identity secret of anyone who provides information and if the information leads to an arrest, it could earn the caller a cash reward.
