Patrol Report 07/08/2016

The Corpus Christi Police Department responded to 1051 calls for service and generated 253  reports for formal criminal complaints from 7:00 a.m. July 7 to 7:00 a.m. on July 8, 2016. Case Number: 1607080008
Corpus Christi Police arrested a man for intoxicated manslaughter after he crashed his vehicle into a utility pole injuring his girlfriend and killing her unborn child.

The crash investigation determined that the driver of a 2008 Nissan Sentra was traveling on Baldwin Boulevard near Riggan Street when he lost control of his vehicle and struck a utility pole.  Also in the vehicle was his 16 year old pregnant girlfriend.  She was injured in the crash and transported to Spohn Memorial Hospital by CCFD EMS.

Hospital staff told Officers that the female appeared to be 35 weeks pregnant and the unborn child did not show any signs of life.

After an investigation, Officers determined that the driver of the Nissan, Michael Lee (09/11/1998), was intoxicated.  He was arrested for intoxicated manslaughter.

Corpus Christi Police arrested a male after he made threats to another man while armed with a knife.

A 48 year old male victim told Officers that he was sleeping outside of his home, located in the 3400 block of Brawner Parkway, because his electricity was out. The victim said that he was awoken by a man, armed with a knife, yelling at him.

The victim was able to run inside his home before he was injured.

Officer located the suspect, Willie Hernandez (09/23/1998), and they arrested him for aggravated assault.  Officers also located the knife they believe the suspect used to threaten the victim.

Case Number: 1607080009
Corpus Christi Police issued 51 minor in possession of alcohol citations, 34 minor consuming alcohol citations, 17 inducing curfew violations after breaking up a loud party at a home in the 4900 block of Dusty Dawn Road.

Officers arrived after complaints of juveniles drinking and being loud were made by neighbors. Officers found nearly 150 people inside the home with alcohol and marijuana present. Most of the people inside were under the age of 17.

After issuing all of the citations, parents of the juveniles were contacted to pick up their children.

Two men that lived at the home, James Recio (08/24/1998), and Micheal Thomas Recio (06/05/1999), were arrested for inducing curfew, possession of marijuana, unlawful restraint, and selling alcohol without a permit.

A female was arrested by Corpus Christi Police after she made threats to stab her 20 year old son inside the home they share in the 2900 block of Sonora Street.

Officers were told by the son that he and his mother had got into an argument after his mother took his prescription medication.  He said that when his mother came out of a bathroom, she attempted to stab him with a knife but he was able to hit her and knock the knife out of her hand.

The man was not injured.

Officers did recover the kitchen knife that they believe was used during the assault.

The mother, Doris Casares (07/02/1967), was arrested for aggravated assault.

Corpus Christi Police believe an intoxicated female driver crashed her vehicle into an electric pole while she was driving in the 14100 block of Whitecap Boulevard.

The crash investigation determined that the female driver was traveling north on Whitecap Boulevard when she lost control of her 2000 Subaru Forester and struck an electric pole.

The 50 year old female driver was trapped in the vehicle for a short time, before being rescued by the fire department. She was transported to Spohn Memorial Hospital by CCFD EMS.

After an investigation, Officers do believe alcohol was a factor in this crash.

Due to the driver’s injuries, suffered as a result of the crash, she was not arrested.

Case Number: 1607060008
A business owner called Corpus Christi Police after he found several bullets holes in the front glass windows of his restaurant, located at 4037 Saratoga Boulevard.

When Officers arrived they found five shell casings in the parking lot of the business.  They also determined that three windows had bullet holes in them and one outside window frame had been struck by a bullet but it did not break the glass.  Another bullet went through the front window and into the outside wall of the meat cooler inside the restaurant.

The business owner said that the damage done to the glass and building was estimated to be $1,200.

At this time no suspects have been identified.

Corpus Christi Police arrested a female driver for DWI after she struck a parked vehicle with her car in the 7700 block of Forth Griffen Drive.

The crash investigation determined that the female drive, Evette Gonzalez (09/23/1970), was driving on Fort Griffen Drive when she lost control of her 2014 BMW sedan and struck a parked 2012 Dodge Ram truck.

After an investigation the female, who was not injured, was determined to be intoxicated.

She was arrested for driving while intoxicated and her car was impounded.

Corpus Christi Police were called by medical staff after two men walked into the emergency room of Spohn Memorial Hospital with stab wounds.

Officers arrived to investigate and found two male victims, one with a stab wound to the shoulder and the other with a stab wound to his abdomen being treated by hospital staff.

Both victims claimed to have been working out at Ben Garza Park when a Hispanic male transient wearing a black shirt stabbed them with a pocket knife.

Officers checked the area where the victims said the assault had occurred but no crime scene located.

Neither injury appears to be life threatening.

Case Number: 1606230005
A 35 year old man called Corpus Christi Police after he said two females beat him up and stole items from him in a motel room located at 5423 Leopard Street.

The man told Officers that he answered an ad on a social media website about getting an in room massage at the motel.  When he went to the room, a female let him in.   Once inside another female pulled out a knife and demanded his property.

The man reported that the two females took cash, along with two bottles of cologne, and a pair of headphones from him.  The man, who was not injured, left the room and called the police.

The female armed with the knife was said to be a tall Hispanic with a prominent neck tattoo.

At this time, none of the two female suspects have been identified.

Case Number: 1606220112
Corpus Christi Police arrested a man after he intentionally hit the back end of another vehicle that was being driven by his mom’s ex-boyfriend, with the truck that he was driving.

An Officer observed a 2008 GMC truck being chased by a 2004 Chevrolet Silverado truck as both vehicles traveled at a high rate of speed west in the 4700 block of South Padre Island Drive.

The Officer then saw both trucks exit off the freeway at Weber Road and then they both ran the red light at the McArdle Road intersection.  The Officer was able to get both vehicles stopped in the 4000 block of Lamont Street.

The driver of the Chevrolet told Officers that he knew the driver of the GMC truck was an ex-boyfriend of his mom.  He told Officers that he was tired of the ex-boyfriend driving by his mom’s house.

The 43 year old ex-boyfriend said that the driver of the truck intentionally struck the rear of his vehicle several times while chasing him down the freeway.

Officers found damage to the front of the Chevrolet and the rear of the GMC.

Michael Abusalah Lopez (03/31/1995) was arrested for aggravated assault.

No one was seriously injured.

An employee of a business, located at 13433 Leopard Street, called Corpus Christi Police after he found a skimming device on one of the stores gas pumps.

Officers were told by the employee that he was working on the gas pumps and when he opened up the credit card machine at gas pump 4, he saw the device.  The skimmer devise was plugged into the back of the credit card reader.

Officers collect the device as evidence.

At this time the person who put the skimming device on the gas pump has not been identified.

Case Number: 1606210143
Corpus Christi Police arrested a male driver for DWI after an Officer observed him driving well under the speed limit on the freeway without any lights on.

The Officer was on patrol when he noticed that a 2007 Nissan Altima sedan was traveling very slowly west on State Highway 358 near Weber Road.  The Officer also noticed that the vehicle did not have any lights on, and one of the turn signals was continuously flashing.

The Officer stopped the car and after an investigation he determined that the driver, Rene Castillo (02/20/1949), was intoxicated.

The driver was arrested for driving while intoxicated, a third degree felony, and his vehicle was impounded.

Case Number: 1606210129
A teenage male was arrested by Corpus Christi Police after he climbed onto the outside railing of the Harbor Bridge.

When the Officer arrived he saw the man at the top of the bridge on the east side climbing around the structure.  The Officer got the man to come into the roadway to speak to him while other Officers blocked traffic.  When the Officer informed the man that it was illegal to climb on the railing outside the pedestrian walkway, the man climbed back over the barricade and sat down on the railing over the water.

The Officer went across the walkway and grabbed the teenager, Roberto Valencia (12/1/21997), while he was sitting on the railing and arrested him.

Two men shopping at a hobby shop, located at 5702 South Staples Street, turned robbery suspects when they pulled out a gun and walked out of the store with merchandise.

Corpus Christi Police arrived and were told that two male suspects came into the store and began looking at remote controlled cars.  Both suspects asked questions about the items and were handling the boxes as if they were shopping. Both suspects selected two remote controlled trucks, each valued at over $500, picked up the boxes, put them on their shoulders and began to walk out the front door of the store. When the two did not stop to pay for the merchandise and exited the business, an employee attempted to stop them.

One of the suspects pulled out a handgun from the waistband of his shorts and pointed it at the employee.   Both suspects then got into a gray Nissan SUV, which had several other people in it.

One of the suspects was described as being a white male in his late twenties, 6’0” foot tall, 220 pounds. He was last seen wearing a blue t-shirt and khaki shorts.

The suspect who had the gun was described as a Hispanic male in his early twenties, 5`7” foot tall, 160 pounds with a short haircut. He was last seen wearing a plaid pull over shirt, shorts, and had on a gold pair of sunglasses.

At this time, no suspects have been identified.

No one in the store was injured.

Case Number: 1606200154
Corpus Christi Police arrested a male driver for DWI after he crashed his car into a parked Jeep and a fence in the 3800 block of Dunbrook Drive.

The crash investigation revealed that the driver of a 2011 Honda Accord was traveling west on Dunbrook Drive when he lost control of his vehicle and struck a 2005 Jeep Liberty that was parked along the street.  The Honda then veered off the roadway and struck a fence at 3821 Dunbrook Drive.

The driver of the Honda, Michael Anthony Montez (04/15/1991), was not injured, but after an investigation he was determined to be intoxicated.  He was arrested for driving while intoxicated, a Class A misdemeanor.

Case Number: 1606190086
Corpus Christi Police arrested a man after he was stopped and found to have a handgun in his possession.

The Officer had stopped a 2001 Chevrolet Tahoe SUV in the 1400 block of Sixteenth Street for not having a current vehicle registration.  When the driver could not produce a driver’s license or current liability insurance on the vehicle, the Officer made the decision to impound the SUV.

While doing an inventory search, the Officer found a loaded .45 caliber handgun in a holster on the floorboard on the driver’s side.  The Officer also found a pair of brass knuckles in the glove box.

The driver, Dominic Suarez (08/01/1984), was arrested for possession of a firearm by a felon after verifying the driver had been convicted of a felony crime in the past.  He was additionally charged with carrying a prohibited weapon, the brass knuckles, a Class A misdemeanor.

A 41 year old male victim called Corpus Christi Police after he was shot in the upper leg the night before in the 5200 block of Silverberry Drive.

The victim told Officers that he and his 10 year old daughter were selling keychains to people in the parking lot when he approached three males walking to their car.  The three men made some comments and threats to the victim.  One of the suspects, with a tattoo on the front of his neck, pointed a gun at victims chest.  He said his daughter tried to push the man with the gun away, and when she did, the victim was shot in the back of his leg.

The victim went home and did not call Officers until the next day.

CCFD EMS responded to treat the victim for his injuries, however, he refused to be taken to the hospital.

At this time none of the three suspects have been identified.

Case Number: 1606190095
Corpus Christi Police were called after a family gathering on Father Day ended with one man being stabbed twice at a home located in the 1100 block of Green Lane Drive.

Officers arrived and found that a 21 year old male victim had been stabbed in the left arm and lower left abdomen.

The investigation revealed that several people were outside the home when two men began fighting in the driveway after the victim shook the hand of the suspect’s girlfriend. The two men ended up in the street fighting over the handshake, and that is when the suspect pulled out a knife and stabbed the victim.

The victim was transported to Spohn Memorial Hospital to be treated for the two stab wounds that don’t appear to be life threatening.  The suspect who stabbed him, Ricardo Vasquez (02//23/1973), was arrested for aggravated assault after he was treated for a cut over his eye that occurred during the fight.

Case Number: 1606190062
A female employee of a bank called Corpus Christi Police after she found the ATM and a video camera outside the business had been damaged.

Officers arrived at the bank, located at 5725 Spohn Drive, and were told that the side panels on the ATM had been damaged. The ATM did appear to still be functioning properly.   Officers also found a video camera that was overlooking the drive thru lanes was hanging from the roof and seemed to have been damaged as well.

It was estimated that $1,500 in damage was done to the two pieces of equipment.

At this time, no suspects have been identified in connection to this case.

Case Number: 1606160146
A 39 year old man called Corpus Christi Police after he arrived at his home, located at 4026 Bradford Drive, and found that suspects had entered his residence and took several items including his vehicle.

Officers arrived and found that the suspects made entry into the home by removing a window air conditioning unit in one of the bedrooms.  Once inside the suspects stole several electronics valued at over $2000, some fishing poles, and a 2016 black Toyota Tacoma truck that had been parked in the garage.

At this time no suspects have been identified, and the truck has not been recovered.

Case Number: 1606170015
Corpus Christi Police and Fire units responded to a report of a vehicle on fire in the parking lot of an apartment complex located at 711 Glenoak Drive.

When Officers arrived they found two vehicles on fire, a Ford Explorer and a Kia Sorrento, at the west end of the parking lot in front of building 8.   On both vehicles, the front driver side appeared to be the point of origin for the fires. On the ground near the two vehicles, Officers found a one gallon container that did have gasoline inside but was now empty.

Both cars had to be towed from the scene.

At this time, the suspect that started the two fires has not been identified.

Corpus Christi Police are investigating a crash that left a 24 year old male driver in the hospital and a homeowner with approximately $20,000 in damage to his home located at 1302 Prince Drive.

Officers arrived and the crash investigation determined that the male driver of a 2015 Ford Focus was traveling west on McArdle Road when he lost control of his car and crashed into a fence and the home on Prince Drive.

The driver suffered injuries to his leg and he was transported by CCFD EMS to Spohn Memorial Hospital to be treated for non-life threatening injuries.

During the investigation, Officers determined that the driver did appear to be intoxicated.

Once the man is released from the hospital, he could face charges of driving while intoxicated.

No one inside the home was injured.

Case Number: 1606170029
Corpus Christi Police arrested a man after he was seen trying to break into a vehicle parked in front of a home located in the 900 block of Saint Gregory Street.

When Officers arrived, they found a 53 year old man pointing a handgun at another male on the ground in front of the home.  The homeowner told Officers that he saw the suspect outside of his home attempting to get into his 2014 Dodge truck.  The homeowner, armed himself with a handgun, and went outside to confront the suspect.  He ordered the suspect to the ground and then waited for police to arrive.

Officers found what they believe to be a controlled substance in the pockets of the suspect.

The suspect, Cameron Hellman (10/05/1997), was arrested for possession of a controlled substance and he may also be charged with burglary of a vehicle, a Class A misdemeanor.

Case Number: 1606170017
Corpus Christi Police arrested five men after they jumped over the fence at the Greenwood Pool, located at 4305 Greenwood Drive, and were inside swimming and drinking alcohol.

Officers arrived and heard the males inside the fenced in area around the pool playing loud music and swimming. When Officers approached they observed six males in the pool.  Five adult age males and one juvenile.  Officers also observed the males to be drinking alcohol and they all appeared to be under the age of 21.

Officers arrested Josue Cruz (11/13/1998), Juan Vivero (04/19/1999), James Vasquez (06/24/1997), Eric Jasso (09/16/1998), and Raymond Gaona (07/05/1998) and they were all charged with criminal trespass, minor in possession of alcohol, violation of nighttime curfew, and public intoxication.

The juvenile was taken to the Nueces County Juvenile Justice Center.

The Corpus Christi Police Department responded to 872  calls for service and generated 201 reports for formal criminal complaints from 7:00 a.m. June 15 to 7:00 a.m. on June 16, 2016. A 39 year old male called Corpus Christi Police after his ex-wife rammed the rear of his truck with her SUV while he was on a date with another women.

The ex-wife found the man and his date traveling on Gollihar Road, near South Staples Street.  The man told Officers that he was driving his 2005 Dodge truck down the street with a 25 year old female passenger inside when his ex-wife saw him.  The ex-wife, driving a 2003 Ford Expedition, began to ram her SUV into the rear of the man’s truck several times.

When the man pulled into a parking lot in the 4100 block of South Staples Street to confront his ex-wife, she ran into his truck again with her SUV and then fled.  No one in the truck was injured.

The ex-wife did not get far.  She lost control of her SUV and crashed her Ford Expedition into a fence at 4629 Carroll Lane and then into a tree in the 3500 block of Harold Street. After the crash, the female exited her SUV and took off walking on foot from the area.

Officers caught up to the female driver, Melissa Lopez (09/27/1982), at her home in the 4500 block of Kirkwood Drive.  She was arrested for aggravated assault, a felony offense, for intentionally ramming her car into her ex-husbands vehicle.

A 36 year old man called Corpus Christi Police after the ex-boyfriend of a female he is now dating came to his apartment, located in the 4000 block of Violet Road, armed with a gun.

Officers arrived at the man’s home and were told that he heard someone banging on the windows of his trailer but when he looked out, he could only see a white truck outside.  The man also heard someone banging on the front door of his trailer, but he did not look out the window facing the front door because he was afraid. He told Officers that his girlfriend of two months has an ex-boyfriend that drivers a white truck.

Neighbors told Officers that they saw a man banging on the trailer and it appeared to them as if he broke two windows on the side of the home.  They also said the man outside was armed with a handgun.  They saw the man bang loudly on the front door, and then step back and point the handgun in the direction of the front door waiting for someone to answer.

When no one came to the front door, the man outside left in his truck but was located by Officers on Violet Road near Interstate 37.

Officers stopped the 2011 Dodge truck and after an investigation they determined that the driver, Jose Luis Garcia (02/11/1973), was intoxicated.  They also found two loaded handguns in the center console of his truck.

The suspect was charged with aggravated assault, a felony offense, unlawful carrying of a weapon, a Class A misdemeanor.  He was additionally charged with driving while intoxicated and criminal mischief for breaking the trailer windows.  Both of those charges are Class B misdemeanors.

Corpus Christi Police responded to an alarm at a business, located at 13941 Northwest Boulevard, and found the side door to the restaurant was open.

When Officers went inside they found a cash register thrown on the floor broken with coins around it. Officers determined that the suspects made entry into the business after the bottom latch on the side door was left unlocked.   The door was then easily pushed in by the suspects breaking the dead bolt.

The owner of the restaurant estimated that the cash register would cost $280 to replace and that nearly $60 in cash was taken from the register after it was broke open.

At this time, no suspects have been identified.

Corpus Christi Police responded to an alarm at a business, located at 8151 Leopard Street, and found a front window to the restaurant broken out.

When Officers went inside they found two cash registers on the front counter that were open but did not contain anything inside of them. Officers also located an ax laying on the floor.  They believe this was used by the suspect to break out the glass window and make entry into the building.

At this time, it does not appear as though anything was taken from the business, but the owner estimated that it would cost $300 to repair the broken window.

Officers wear able to view camera surveillance video from the restaurant.  It shows a male suspect, 30 to 40 years of age, with dark hair, glasses, a beard or goatee enter the business through the broken window.  After looking through the empty cash registers, he leaves out the same window.  He was last seen wearing a white shirt and khaki colored shorts.

At this time, no suspects have been identified.

Case Number: 1606150023
The owner of a business, located at 4032 Weber Road,  called Corpus Christi Police after he arrived at work and found that the front glass door to his barber shop had been broken out.

Officers arrived and they were told by the owner of the business that he found a portion of the front door glass had been broken out sometime overnight.  Once inside the business, the suspects entered an interior office and took money from the cash register drawer.  The suspects also stole two pair of hair clippers and a pair of scissors from one of the salon work stations.

The owner estimated that the suspects stole over $700 in equipment and cash from the business.

At this time, no suspects have been identified.

The Corpus Christi Police Department responded to 891  calls for service and generated 208 reports for formal criminal complaints from 7:00 a.m. June 14 to 7:00 a.m. on June 15, 2016. An employee of a business, located at 10010 South Padre Island Drive, called Corpus Christi Police after he arrived at work and found the glass to the front door had been smashed out.

Officers arrived and found that a suspect had scaled the side wall of the business and then used a landscape brick to break out the front glass door doing at least $300 in damage.

Once the glass was shattered the suspect entered the business and stole several power and hand tools totaling over $1,200.

At this time, no suspects have been identified.

A 47 year old female was robbed by a man who was hiding in her vehicle in the parking lot of a business located at 3237 South Alameda Street.

The female victim told Officers that she had parked her vehicle in front of the business with the previous day’s deposit in a bank bag.  When the female got back into her car to take the money to the bank, the male suspect, who was already in the back seat of her car, told her not to look back.

The suspect took the bank bag and the victim’s purse. He then placed what the female thought was a knife against her ribs and then told her to drive. Once they drove around the block the suspect exited the vehicle with the bank bag and ran.

The female was not injured.

The suspect was last seen wearing a dark hooded top and blue jeans.

At this time no suspects have been identified.

Corpus Christi Police arrested a male driver for DWI after he crashed his truck into a utility pole and a water meter in the 4200 block of South Staples Street.

Officers arrived and determined that the driver of a 2004 GMC truck was traveling north on South Staples Street when he lost control of his truck and left the roadway.  The driver of the truck struck a utility pole cutting it in half and then crashed into a water meter.

After an investigation, Officers determined that the driver of the truck, Nicolas Chabera (12/22/1984), was not injured but he was intoxicated.

The driver was arrested for driving while intoxicated and his truck was impounded.
