Corpus Christi Police responded to an assault at Spohn South Hospital located at 5950 Saratoga Blvd. after a man bit a security guard.
The 56 year old male hospital security guard was in the neonatal unit of the hospital after he received a call about a man hitting his girlfriend in one of the rooms. The girlfriend, a 25 year old female, told officers she was in the hospital because she was recovering from having a baby. She said she left the room to go to the nursery and when she returned to her room, her boyfriend, was there and he started accusing her of sleeping with hospital staff members. He then started punching her in the back of the head causing her to scream out for help.
Hospital staff and two security guards arrived and they told the male that he had to leave. The boyfriend refused to leave the room and then became aggressive with security. During a struggle with security the male bit on of the security guards on the upper leg breaking the skin.
Corpus Christi Police arrived and took Matthew Johnson (12/29/1985) into custody. He was arrested for assaulting his girlfriend, a Class A misdemeanor, and for biting the security guard, a third degree felony. The security guard received treatment for his injury in the emergency room of the hospital.
