A 34 year old male called police to report that his 2012 Ford F350 truck had been broken into while it was parked in front of his home in the 4700 block of Sierra Blanca Blvd. Camera images show a male approach the truck and open the driver side door and get in. The suspect removes property from the truck and leaves.  Video surveillance also shows the male walk down the street and check other vehicle doors. The suspect looks to be a male in his mid-twenties with a light t-shirt on and shorts. Offense: Aggravated Robbery (PC 29.03 First Degree Felony)
Case Number: 1407220011
A 28 year old female store clerk called police after the business was robbed by three suspects one of which had a handgun. She said that a young Hispanic male, 17-18 years old, wearing a red shirt, came in and attempted to purchase a tobacco product but the clerk refused since the male did not have identification to verify his age. He left the store only to return a few minutes later to ask again and he was again turned down.

The clerk became suspicious when he returned a third time and purchased a beverage. While he was in the store, two more males entered, one wearing a dark jacket, a ski mask and armed with a handgun, demanding money. The third male jumped over the counter and removed money from the register and all three then left the store. It is unknown if the male suspect who was attempting to purchase items was with the two other suspects, however he fled and officers need to speak to him. He is described as being 5’6”-5’7” tall, about 130 to 150 pounds with black hair. The suspect armed with the weapon was described as a Hispanic male, unknown age, about 5’7” to 5’10”, 140 to 160 pounds, wearing a dark shirt and khaki pants. The suspect who jumped the counter and grabbed the money is described as a white male unknown age height or weight, last seen wearing a black shirt with white writing on it, khaki shorts and a bandana.

Offense: Forgery (PC 32.21 State Jail Felony)

Corpus Christi Police Officers responded to a business located in the 1100 block of Waldron Road for an individual attempting to cash a forged check from a car in the drive through lane. Officers were shown a cashier`s check for over $1,700 issued by another bank. That bank was contacted and they said the check was not issued by them and was a forgery. Roberto Seidner (08/15/1949) was arrested for forgery, a state jail felony and transported to the City Detention Center without incident. The 2012 Mercedes sedan he was in was impounded.

The police department reminds everyone to never agree to cash a check or money order made out to you for over the amount you are owed, with the agreement that you will send someone else the difference.

Offense: Child Neglect (PC 22.041 State Jail Felony)

Corpus Christi Police responded to a call in the 15000 Leeward Dr. in response to an intoxicated female pushing a stroller in the middle of the road with a child in it. Officers arrived and observed Charlotte Earwood (01/05/1973), staggering while walking north on the side of Leeward Dr. and she was pushing a small pink stroller.

As officers approached the female she nearly lost her balance and fell and when she noticed the officers, she dropped two 16 oz. Lone Star beer cans. Officers contacted her, and they immediately detected a very strong odor of alcohol coming from her person and her breath and she refused to let go of the carrier. The 20 month old child was crying and officers had to pull the females right hand off the carrier`s handle in order for her to let loose of it. Four other witnesses told officers they saw the female staggering while walking and drinking beer and they were concerned for the safety of the female and the child. CCFD EMS responded to check on the child and the female who was identified as the child’s grandmother was arrested. She was charged with child neglect, a state jail felony, and public intoxication, a Class C misdemeanor. The child was released to the grandfather when he arrived at the scene.

Offense: Burglary of a Vehicle (PC30.04 Class A Misdemeanor)

A Corpus Christi Police Officer responded to a call about a male hanging around a black BMW in the 800 block of S. Staples Street. The officer observed the only black BMW parked in front of a business and approached the car. He could see someone sitting in the driver seat and he also noticed the window on the driver’s side had been broken out. The male sitting in the car had small cuts on his hands. The officer was able to contact the vehicles owner, and he said that he did not give the male permission to be inside his vehicle. Richard Garcia (04/261995) was arrested for burglary of a vehicle, a Class A misdemeanor. He estimated the damage to the window to be about $200.

Ceremony Unveiling The “Peace Officers Memorial Highway” Signs.

On Tuesday, July 22, at 10:00 a.m. there will be a  ceremony unveiling the  “Peace Officers Memorial Highway” signs. The signs are located at State Highway 358 east and Agnes Street. The ceremony will be held at the Agnes Street on ramp to State Highway 358 east in the grassy median.​  The signs are the final phase of this memorial that started off as House Bill 3831, which passed in the last legislative session.  It was authored by South Texas Representatives Abel Herrero, Todd Hunter and Senator “Chuy” Hinojosa. The portion of State Highway 358 from Interstate Highway 37 to State Highway 286  is designated as the “Peace Officers Memorial Highway”.

Private funds were raised to pay for the manufacturing and installation of the two signs. ​Everyone  is encouraged to attend the ceremony as the signs are unveiled in remembrance of those officers that paid the ultimate sacrifice.

Traffic Investigators Looking For Suspect In Fatal Hit And Run

Corpus Christi Police Traffic Officers are investigating a fatal hit and run crash involving a pedestrian that occurred in the 5200 block of Weber Road. A 61 year old male was walking across Weber Rd not at an intersection or crosswalk. The pedestrian was stuck by a silver Lincoln Navigator driven by a male with possibly up to five other passengers inside. The suspect vehicle pulled across the street and stopped. The driver and a passenger ran over to the pedestrian but fled when they heard emergency vehicles approaching. The driver and suspect vehicle have not been located. Corpus Christi Police Officers responded to a business located 1200 block of Flour Bluff Dr. and contacted a store loss prevention officer who told them she observed a male and a female eat two bananas in the store before purchasing them. The security officer contacted both suspects and directed them to the self-check out to pay for the items. As the items were being scanned the suspects became disruptive and verbally abusive towards store employees. When store security tried to direct the suspects into the loss prevention office one of the suspects grabbed the officer by her upper body to pull her away. Both suspect then left the store in a car. Corpus Christi Police Officers went to the address of the vehicles registered owner and attempted to contact the male suspect. When he saw officers, he ran up the staircase of the mobile home and went inside. Officers contacted him and the male suspect used physical force to resist arrest. Casey Raines (06/06/1981) was arrested and charged with robbery for the physical assault on security following the theft, evading arrest for fleeing on foot from police officers, a Class A Misdemeanor, and resisting arrest, for using physical force to resist arrest, a Class A misdemeanor. The female was not located.

Corpus Christi Police Officers were dispatched to a business located 3900 block of Laguna Shores Rd. for a theft of an ATM from inside of a business located on a fishing pier. A 62 year old male reported that when he arrived at work he observed two males on a boat near his business. When he observed that the front door to the marina was open, he walked inside and observed that the ATM was missing and he also noticed that the lock on the front door was missing. When he walked back outside the two males on the boat attempted to flee the scene but the boat bottomed out in the shallow water. The suspects were able to regain control of the boat and left toward marker 37.  The boat was later determined to be stolen from a home located on a canal in the same area.

A 45 year old male store clerk called police to report that a young male entered the business located in the 5600 block of Carroll Lane and took a drink from the cooler, and walked out without paying. The store clerk followed the suspect outside and confronted him. The clerk attempted to take the drink from the suspect and a struggle ensued. The suspect got free and was walking away when the clerk took a picture of the suspect with his cell phone. The suspect turned around, ran toward the clerk and punched him several times. The clerk was able to get the suspect on the ground and asked witnesses to call police. The suspect broke free and ran north on Carroll Lane. Corpus Christi Police Officers located the suspect as he walked out of an apartment on Carroll Lane. The suspect ran back into the apartment when he saw officers despite being told to stop. Officers spoke with the suspect through an open window telling him to come out of the apartment. Officers attempted to get the suspect out as he stood by the open window and he began yelling and pulled away. Entry was made into the apartment and the suspect resisted arrest by kicking an officer. After a brief struggle he was taken into custody. Officers charged Preston Felts (07/20/1997) with robbery for the physical assault on the store clerk following the theft, the store clerk sustained minor injuries from the struggle. The suspect was additionally charged with assault on a public servant for kicking the officer, a third degree felony, evading arrest and resisting arrest, both Class A misdemeanors, for fleeing on foot from officers, and using physical force to resist arrest.

Offense: Possession of Controlled Substance (HS 481.115 State Jail Felony)

Corpus Christi Police Officers were on the scene of a hit and run crash in the 5100 block of Weber Rd. when a police unit was struck by a 2005 Ford Escape. The driver of the vehicle was identified as Cody Cerda (08/08/1995). While being questioned by police, the suspect gave false information regarding his name and date of birth and he was arrested. He then told officers he had a small bag of cocaine in his pants. Officer located the bag of narcotics inside the suspect’s boxer shorts. The suspect was charged with possession of a controlled substance, a state jail felony, and failure to identify, a Class B Misdemeanor, for giving false information. The suspect vehicle was impounded at the scene. There was only minor damage to the police unit, and an officer inside the unit when it was struck was treated and released from a hospital.

Offense: Driving While Intoxicated (PC 49.04 Class B Misdemeanor)

A Corpus Christi Fire Department Engine Company driver observed a 1998 Ford truck swerve across all lanes of traffic and onto the sidewalk. The truck was driving about 5 mph and members from the fire department were able to exit the fire truck and run up next to the driver`s side of the pickup. They observed the driver Marshall Raney (08/05/1993) to be throwing up on the front passenger in the truck. They yelled at him to stop the truck but the driver was unresponsive. Members of the fire department were able to reach inside the driver`s side window and put the truck in park. Corpus Christi Police arrived and found the driver, a 20 year old male to be intoxicated. He was transported to the hospital due to high level of intoxication and treated. The driver faces charges of Driving While Intoxicated, a Class B misdemeanor once he is released from the hospital. The front seat passenger, Matthew Stonecipher (11/18/1989) was arrested for public intoxication, a Class C Misdemeanor.

Teague Lane Homicide

OFFENSE: Murder (PC19.02 First Degree Felony)

Corpus Christi Police Officers responded to a shooting call at a townhome located in the 13600 block of Teague Lane. Officers found a 38 year old female standing outside the front door of the townhome. She told them that her 41 year old husband entered the rear door of her townhome armed with a handgun, and shot the victim in the living room. Officers found a 44 year old male with a gunshot wound to the head. He was transported by CCFD EMS to Spohn Memorial Hospital where he later died of his injuries. The female told officers that the suspect left out the rear door, and drove away in a blue suburban, possibly going back to his home on a ranch outside of Benavides, Texas. The female also told officers that her two children, a 16 year old female and an 11 year old male were also at the home in Benavides. Corpus Christi Police contacted the Duval County Sheriff’s Department and they responded to the home and secured the children. Officers there also located the suspect, and after a standoff with law enforcement officers from Duval County the suspect died of a self-inflicted gunshot.

Female Steals Forgotten Purse

A 30 year old female victim reported to police that she was exiting the Wal-Mart Supercenter located at 4109 South Staples Street when she left her blue clutch purse in a shopping cart that she was putting away . When she realized she had left it in the cart, she returned to the cart area and noticed the purse was gone. Camera images from the store show a female suspect enter the store and go to the cart area and remove the purse from the basket. The suspect is a white female with blonde hair in a ponytail and blue pants. A 55 year old male reported that sometime between 10:15 AM and 9 PM on July 17 unknown suspects kicked in the front door of his home, went inside, and removed several items. There was at least $300 in damage to the door, and property valued at over $700 was stolen. Officers do not have any suspects and are currently still investigating this crime.

A Corpus Christi Police Officer on patrol observed a male driving a 2013 Nissan Rogue in the 1800 block of Flour Bluff Dr. on his cell phone. The officer contacted the driver, Rocky Haggard (07/22/1979) who did not have a drivers license. Inside the vehicle officers found a backpack in the back seat that contained several small zip lock bags with a white, crystalized substance residue and a measuring scale. In the console of the vehicle there was a zip lock bag that contained a white, crystalized substance believed to be methamphetamine.

Corpus Christi Police Officers were dispatched to a business located in the 5300 block of Saratoga Blvd. when a security guard called reporting a man exposing himself. Several customers reported that a male was exposing himself to customers as they were walking in and out of the store. An 18 year old female approached officers and reported that she was walking to her vehicle and saw a man standing near her car exposing himself. The female said she was terrified and stepped into a vehicle of an undefined motorist who agreed to drive her around the parking lot until she felt safe to go back to her vehicle. Officers found the suspect, Adan Ortiz (01/09/1969) still in the area and arrested him. The suspect refused to identify himself to officers and was also charged with failure to identify, a class B misdemeanor.

Crash Leaves 11 Year Old With Serious Injuries – UPDATE

LOCATION: South Staples Street and Wooldridge Road

Corpus Christi Police Officers responded to a two vehicle crash at the intersection of South Staples St. and Wooldridge Road that required three CCFD EMS units to respond, and left an 11 year old male with serious injuries. The crash investigation showed that a four door Mercury sedan was stopped while traveling north on S. Staples St. for a red light at the Wooldridge Rd. intersection. A black 2008 Chevrolet Tahoe was also traveling north on S. Staples St. when it struck the Mercury from behind. Inside the Mercury were 3 children, an 11 year old male, a 10 year old female, a 7 year old male, along with 2 adults, a  34 year old male driver and a 32 year old female front seat passenger.    All the children were transported to Driscoll Children’s Hospital by CCFD EMS. The driver and female passenger in  the Mercury were father and mother of all the children. They were not seriously injured in the crash.   The driver of the black SUV was a 32 year old male who told officers that he thought the light at the intersection was green. The force of impact pushed the Mercury across the intersection and over the sidewalk onto private property. The SUV slid sideways and came to rest in the intersection.  Corpus Christi Traffic Officers  diverted traffic in the area for about three hours while they investigated this crash. At this time no charges have been filed and no citations have been issued.  At last report, the 11 year old had serious, but no life threatening injuries.

Corpus Christi Police Officers responded to a stabbing on a RTA bus in the 5800 block of Leopard Street. A 16 year old male victim told officers that he was stabbed twice in the right forearm while he was riding on the bus. The victim said a male approached him and said “what now” and then stabbed him. The bus was stopped at the Leopard / Lantana bus stop when the incident occurred and the suspect got off the bus with a female and left the scene. The victim told officers that the female was an ex-girlfriend from about a year ago and that the suspect is her boyfriend. The suspect is described as a hispanic male with a shaved head, about 18-19 years old, with a tear drop tattoo under his left eye. Officers checked the area but did not locate either the suspect or the female. The victim was transported to Spohn Memorial Hospital for treatment by CCFD EMS.

A 19 year old Edinburg man was driving a 2013 red Hyundai two door hatchback and taking the south to north turnaround of Interstate Highway 69 at County Rd. 52 when he failed to yield the right of way to a 2012 Peterbilt carrying a roll-off dumpster. The tractor trailer was traveling north in the left lane of the access road and struck the hatchback broadside in the passenger door. The driver of the hatchback and his 23 year old male front seat passenger were trapped in the vehicle and had to be extracted by the fire department. Both men were transported to Spohn Memorial Hospital with serious injuries. The 32 year old truck driver was not injured in the crash. The crash forced lane closures on the access road of IH 69 for nearly three hours while Corpus Christi Police Traffic Officer investigated the crash. At this time no citations have been issued, however this crash is still under investigation.

A Corpus Christi Police Officer was on patrol when he observed a 1985 Chevrolet truck run a stop sign. The officer stopped the truck and made contact with the driver, John Gray (08/08/1979) who also had his 14 year old daughter in the truck with him. The officer observed an open container of beer under the driver seat of the vehicle. The officer checked the beer can, and noticed a small clear plastic bag that contained a light tan colored substance believed to be methamphetamine. The drug evidence was collected, and the driver was arrested for possession of a controlled substance, a state jail felony and he also had an outstanding warrant for his arrest. The daughter was released to her mother who showed up the scene.
