Corpus Christi Police and Fire units responded to an assault at a residence in the 1200 block of Main Drive. Witnesses told officers that five males walked into the house and attacked the 40 year old victim in a back bedroom of the house. Two female witnesses who were both with the victim realized he had been stabbed several times and called 911. The victim was transported by CCFD EMS to the hospital for treatment. Witnesses told officers that the suspects left in two separate vehicles, a blue Malibu and gold Suburban.

Two males armed with weapons entered a business in the 10500 block of Leopard Street just before 10 PM on May 20, 2014 wearing bandannas covering their faces. The suspects entered the store, demanded money and one of the gunmen jumped over the counter while the other stood by the door. When the 20 year old clerk advised he did not know how to open the register the gunman stole 3-4 packs of cigarettes before jumping back over the counter. One of the suspects was described as wearing a green bandanna and a grey ball cap and grey hoodie. The other had a black bandanna with writing on it and a black shirt and pants. Both suspects ran to the rear of the business.

Corpus Christi Police need your help finding a missing disabled person. Gwendolyn Johnson (01/20/1980) left to go to a store in the Flour Bluff area on Tuesday at about 6:45 PM and never returned. Gwendolyn has a medical condition that requires her to take regular medication which she has missed. Gwendolyn is described as a 34 year old, black female, 5’3, 140 lbs, with acne scars on her face. She was last seen wearing black leggings, a blue top and sandals. If you have any information on Gwendolyn, or if you see her please call the police.

Corpus Christi Police and Fire units responded to a crash in the 500 block of Jester Street and found three male occupants in a 2001 Ford Taurus sedan that had struck the retaining wall of a driveway in front of a home and then came to rest in the ditch. The driver, Samuel Amorella, (12/17/1976) and his 34 year old front seat passenger were taken to the hospital by CCFD EMS.
During the investigation the driver, who officers believe was intoxicated, gave several different accounts as to how the crash had occurred. He was cleared by medical staff and taken to the City Detention Center. The 56 year old back seat passenger was not injured in the crash.

A 38 year old pedestrian was attempting to cross State Highway 358 between Airline Road and Nile Drive and was struck by 1994 Dodge Van driven by a 63 year old man. The crash investigation revealed that the pedestrian left a business located in the 6400 block of South Padre Island Drive, crossed the eastbound lanes of the freeway, then went over the cement barrier, and walked onto the westbound lanes heading north when he was struck by the van. Traffic Investigators closed all three lanes of the freeway westbound for a time to conduct the crash investigation.

Offense: Driving While Intoxicated (PC 49.04 Class B Misdemeanor)

While officers were conducting the investigation into a fatality traffic crash in the 6400 block of State Highway 358, a vehicle rolled over the flares in the closed roadway and continued toward three police units with emergency lights fully activated. The driver, Maria Benavides (4-15-59) managed to squeeze her 2005 Saturn 4 door between two of the police units that had set up to close the freeway and then continue down the road despite an officer banging on her window to get her attention. Another officer managed to get her stopped before she hit the units or anyone else working the crash down the highway. The suspect was believed to be intoxicated and taken to the City Detention Center.

Corpus Christi Police and Fire units responded a crash and found Rolando Saenz (01/12/74) had veered his 2002 Chevrolet truck into oncoming traffic while traveling south on Kostoryz Road. The truck hit a 2001 Nisssan head on that was driven by a 40 year old male victim. Mr. Saenz showed signs of being intoxicated. The victim was taken by CCFD EMS to the hospital for treatment. A 38 year old female in the Nissan with the victim was not injured. Mr. Saenz was not injured in the crash and was arrested for intoxication assault causing serious bodily injury.

Corpus Christi Police responded to an aggravated robbery at a business located in the 600 block of South Port Ave. When officers arrived they found two store clerks, a 20 year old female and a 21 year old male shaken but unharmed. The clerks told officers that two males came in with weapons and robbed the store. One of males wearing a red shirt, a black hoodie and khaki pants took money from the cash register. The second suspect wearing a jacket with black with white sleeves, black shoes and a bandanna on his face stood watch at the door. The suspects left the store and ran toward Mary Street after committing the robbery.

Car Burglars Steal Handgun

On May 15, 2014 at Corpus Christi Police Officers were dispatched to a residence in the 5200 block of Tartan Drive for a burglary to a vehicle. The 26 year old victim said that sometime between 11 PM on May 14 and 7 AM on May 15 a suspect entered her unlocked Toyota Tundra and stole a handgun from her center console. A neighbor who has a camera system facing the street provided investigators with images that show two male subjects exit a newer model light colored Nissan four door truck and begin walking down the street at about 3:46 AM on May 15. The truck then leaves the area. CCPD Team To Participate In Special Olympics Torch

Corpus Christi Police Officers will be involved with the Special Olympics Torch run Wednesday May 21st. The event will take place at Sherrill Park on Shoreline Blvd. at 1 PM. A group of officers from the Rio Grande Valley will be staged at the edge of the park. They will come running up with the Special Olympics torch and hand it to a team from the Corpus Christi Police Department. Assistant Police Chief Mark Schauer, will then say a few words before the CCPD Team runs across Shoreline Blvd. The team will then go to San Antonio, where on Thursday the 22nd, the CCPD Team, along with all the South Texas teams will run in and hand the torch off to the San Antonio contingent. On Friday, all teams will travel to Arlington, Texas to participate in the opening ceremonies for the Special Olympics Summer Games.

CCPD Announces Click It or Ticket Results

The Corpus Christi Police Department announced the results of the first day of the Click It or Ticket campaign.  Officers worked morning and afternoon shifts enforcing the state seat belt laws.

Corpus Christi Police and Fire units responded to a hotel room in the 9400 block of South Padre Island Drive for a person on fire. A 37 year old victim was transported to the hospital with burns to his body after another male poured an accelerant on him and then lit it on fire. The victim said that earlier he and the suspect, that he knows, were arguing about the suspect staying in the room with him and his girlfriend. The victim said that the suspect returned later and kicked in the door and doused him with a liquid, lit it on fire, and then fled on foot. Officers searched the area for the suspect but did not locate him. He was last seen running south into the brushy field.

A 57 year old store owner in the 4100 block of South Padre Island Drive advised police that five individuals walked into his store at the same time. The two males and two females distracted the store owner while a third female described as having brown hair, weighing between 180-190 lbs, and being between 5’4″ – 5’5″ tall, walked in the store office and removed a black briefcase containing cash. The other suspects that distracted the store owner while the suspect removed the case are described as being in their twenties, well dressed in casual type clothing. The females had blond hair with thin builds (5’4″ -5’5″ 120 lbs) and the 2 males were 5’10 to 5’11, medium builds, and blond hair, and one of the males had bleached hair.

Corpus Christi Police Officers arrested Juan Jimenez (05/06/1992) after it was found that he intentionally rammed his car into a truck at the intersection of Baldwin Blvd. and Niagara Street. The 22 year old suspect was upset that his 21 year old girlfriend, and their 3 year old son, were with her ex-boyfriend and another man in the truck. The victims said that they trying to get away from the suspect who was driving a 1999 Toyota Camry when he intentionally collided with the truck they were in causing the driver to lose control and go over the curb. There was damage to both the suspects car and the victims truck. The suspect then drove from the scene to a residence in the 2600 block of Sarita Street and attempted to flee on foot, however, he was apprehended. The suspect now faces four counts of aggravated assault with a motor vehicle, one count for every victim in the truck. Each count is a second degree felony.

Corpus Christi Police responded to a fight in progress in front of a home in the 9500 block of Lovebird Street. Several witnesses told officers that they were having a party when Stephen Travis (05/21/1984) and a female got involved in an argument about him wanting to leave the party in his truck while he was intoxicated. The female took his car keys so that he couldn’t leave, but Mr. Travis ran home and got a spare set. He returned to the party and jumped into his truck and sped off. He didn’t make it far before he crashed into a parked car at the intersection of Lovebird Street and Waxwing Street. When the officers contacted Mr. Travis they found him to be intoxicated. After he was treated for some minor injuries, and a sample of his blood was obtained at the hospital, he was booked into the City Detention Center for Driving While Intoxicated.

An 85 year old male victim told police officers that his wallet and truck were stolen after he was attacked in the garage of his home in the 6100 block of Hidden Oakes Street. The victim said he remembers parking his truck and getting out at about 3 in the morning. As he walked out of the garage someone hit him. He woke up a few hours later after being knocked unconscious. The victim said that his truck and wallet were both missing and that he did not get a description of the suspect that assaulted him.

Offense: Driving While Intoxicated (P.C. 49.04 Class B Misdemeanor)

Corpus Christi Police Officers responded to a roll over crash and upon arrival they found a vehicle upside down with the driver pinned from the knees down underneath the car. Witnesses told officers that they saw the 2013 Volkswagon Passat traveling at a high rate of speed down the access road and just before the Weber Road intersection the vehicle left the roadway and struck the fixture base of a light pole. The vehicle then flipped on its top and slid down the road to a stop. Upon further investigation the officers found that the 27 year old driver was intoxicated. He was transported to the hospital for injuries he sustained in the crash. He refused to provide a specimen of his blood, so the officers applied for a blood search warrant that was then issued by a judge and a specimen was obtained. The driver was released at the hospital to be treated for his injuries. Once investigators obtain the results of the blood, an arrest warrant could be issued for the driver.

Corpus Christi Police Officers made contact with a female victim at a home in the 4500 block of Megal Drive who told them that she was asleep when she heard movement in the home from her bedroom. The victim walked into the kitchen area to look outside, but did not see anyone in the backyard. When the victim turned back around she was confronted by a male suspect, who grabbed her and shoved her head into the window. The victim suffered cuts to her face from the broken glass. The suspect ran out of the home using the back door and fled the area on foot. It is unknown how the suspect gained entry into the home. The suspect is described as a dark skinned male, 5`6 to 5`8, 180-200 lbs. At the time of the attack he was wearing a long sleeve grey shirt, black jeans and was wearing a black thin mask under a ski mask to completely cover his face. The suspect faces burglary of a habitation with intent to commit other felony crimes, a first degree felony.

Corpus Christi Police responded to a call for a burglary in progress at a home in the 1500 block of Lazy Lane.  A 53 year old female victim woke up when she heard someone inside her home trying to open her locked bedroom door.   Officers arrived and found Tod McElduff (07/21/1984)asleep on the victims couch with only a shirt on. The intoxicated suspect explained that he was dropped off by his friends at the home on Lazy Lane where he was told by them that he was supposed to meet a girl. The suspect took off his pants in the front yard, wandered into the victim’s back yard and was able to get inside through the unlocked back door.  Once inside the home, he tried to open the bedroom door, and then went to the living room, took off his boxers and went to sleep on the couch.  When officers tried to arrest him, he resisted.  Officers also found a pill in the pocket of the pants that were found in the front yard. The suspect was charged with criminal trespass in a habitation for entering the residence, resisting arrest for fighting with officers when they attempted to take him into custody and possession of a controlled substance for the pill found inside his pants pocket.

Suspect Breaks Into Two Cars On O’Malley Drive

On May 4, 2014 officers responded to the 4400 block of O’Malley Drive for a burglary to a vehicle report. The victim reported that two vehicles were parked in the driveway of his residence on 5-3-14 at 4:00 PM. The next morning he discovered an unknown suspect made entry to both vehicles during the night and removed property from inside. An image from a camera shows a male enter one of the vehicles and remove property, then get in the car parked next to it and again remove items. The suspect is a male and appears to be between the ages of 20 and 25 with short and a short sleeve shirt on. A 26 year old female victim reported to police that a handgun was taken from the center console of her vehicle while it was parked in her driveway in front of her residence in the 5200 block of Tartan Drive. The victim said she parked the truck about midnight on May 15, and at 7 AM she discovered that a suspect had entered her vehicle through the passenger side door and removed the gun.

Corpus Christi Police responded to a business for a call that two suspects were fighting with a Loss Prevention Officer at the entranced of the store. Officers found that Jesse James Alaniz (02-28-1993) and Jacob Rodriguez (10-16-1992) had stolen property from inside the store and were seen by employees unzipping a backpack that Mr. Rodriguez was wearing and put stolen property into it. They both then ran out of the store together without paying for the merchandise. When the Loss Prevention Officer tried to detain the subjects, they assaulted him in an attempt to get away. Both suspects were charged with robbery, a second degree felony, since the assault caused injury and pain to the victim.

Corpus Christi Police responded to a business after two Loss Prevention Officers at that store attempted to stop a shoplifter who then punched and fought with them. Officers reported that the suspect entered the business, got a shopping cart, and began to fill it up with items. The suspect then went to the return line and attempted to return the items he had just put in the cart. When the employees refused to make the return, the suspect began to push the cart of items out the door without paying for them. The suspect punched, kicked and elbowed the two Loss Prevention Officers causing them to suffer scrapes and bruises. The suspect fled on foot into a field behind the business. Corpus Christi Police Officers located Myrion Coleman (01-19-1978) hiding in the back yard of a home in the 13900 block of River Run Drive and he was taken into custody and charged with robbery, a second degree felony. The almost $800 in stolen property was returned to the store.

A 50 year old male reported that sometime between 6 PM on May 14 and 8 AM on May 15, suspects forced open the back door to his house which is under construction in the 3900 block of Granite Peak Drive. The suspect removed flooring, cabinet hardware, and cabinet doors and exited the home through the garage door.

A 50 year old female victim found wondering around and disoriented in the 5700 block of Kerry Street told Corpus Christi Police Officers that she was assaulted with a metal towel rack by, Yvonne Howard (02-24-1987). The victim told officers that they live together at an apartment in the 4000 block of Schanen Drive, and they got into a disturbance over a messy apartment. The disturbance turned physical when the suspect began to hit the victim in the head with her fists and then repeatedly struck her with a metal towel rack that the suspect pulled off the bathroom wall.  The victim was able to flee the apartment when the suspect began to throw up and she ran until she was found in the 5700 block of Kerry Street. The victim was taken to the hospital by CCFD EMS and the suspect was arrested and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, a second degree felony, and was also found to have an outstanding felony warrant for arrest.

Police Hope Video Leads To A Suspect In Hit And Run

Corpus Christi Police Traffic Investigators are still investigating a hit and run crash involving a pedestrian at Harmon St. and Mary St. on May 11, 2014. The victim, a 56 year old female, suffered injuries to her hip and lower legs. Images obtained from a nearby video camera show a black truck traveling west on Mary St. when it went through the four way stop sign at the intersection. The truck then stopped and began to reverse. The vehicle then backed into the victim as she was crossing the street. The truck then began to drive forward striking the victim again and dragging her under the vehicle for several feet. The suspect is described as a male, 30-40 years of age, wearing a tan straw cowboy hat. He was driving a full size black Chevrolet truck, 2003 – 2006 year model, with chrome on the wheel wells, and chrome step sides. The vehicle is low with distinct chrome flaring on the fenders. The vehicle has a large nerf bars and appears to have a low profile tool box. The truck was last seen traveling south on Harmon Street. Corpus Christi Police Officers were dispatched to a business at 13630 Northwest Blvd. for a subject refusing to leave. The officers contacted Mark Verastiqui (03-11-73) who was yelling vulgarities in front of customers and children. Officers detained him in a police unit and while seated in the back seat he head butted the cage in the unit causing a small gash on his upper forehead. He then began spitting blood all over the inside of the police car. The suspect made threats to kill the employees at the business and threatened to shoot the officers. CCFD EMS responded to the scene and he refused to let medics tend to his cut and he was transported to the hospital. There he still refused to let anyone treat the injury, and continued to scream vulgar insults at the officers and hospital personnel. A medical refusal was obtained and the suspect was booked at the City Detention Center for making the threats which is a Class B Misdemeanor, and disorderly conduct, a Class C misdemeanor, for yelling vulgarities that offended the business employees and the customers.

Corpus Christi Police responded to a residence in the 2700 block of Camargo Street for a burglary in progress. Upon arrival, the officers saw David Garcia (04/17/1980) coming out of the house and Geronimo Sanchez (11/03/1980) was sitting inside a vehicle that was full of property taken from the home. Mr. Garcia told officers that he lived at the home. When the 63 year old female homeowner arrived, she stated that Mr. Garcia had been legally evicted from the home last year, because he was pawning property that belonged to her. The victim stated that she would press charges on both men because she is tired of them stealing from her home. The investigation revealed that the suspects gained entry to the house through a back living room door and ransacked the home. Both suspects were also found to have guns in their possession. Mr. Garcia was booked on charges of burglary of a habitation, possession of marijuana, and unlawful carrying of a weapon, Mr. Sanchez was charged with burglary of a habitation and felon in possession of a firearm a third degree felony.

Corpus Christi Police responded to an assault call at an apartment complex in the 900 block of
South Navigation Blvd. The suspect, Billy Bisby (12-13-79) had assaulted a 34 year old victim, and left the area in a vehicle. After officers left the scene the suspect returned to the apartment kicked in the door and stole the victim’s purse. With officers assistance, the victim then left the apartment to stay at another location. Again, after everyone had left the apartment the suspect came back to the apartment and then began to call the victim on the phone over 10 times. He was leaving the area again in a vehicle when he was spotted by officers at the Interstate 37 and Navigation intersection. The suspect was arrested for the assault and theft for the purse which he still had in the car.

Several Corpus Christi Police units responded to a rollover crash on State Highway 358 West between Airline Road and Staples Street. Kristina Gonzalez (11-21-1987) was driving her 2004 Mazda Sedan when she lost control and struck the center median on the freeway causing her vehicle to roll over. Officers arrived and found the vehicle flipped over and resting on its passenger side. The driver was not pinned in the vehicle, but was unable to get out. CCFD EMS and Rescue units responded and they were able to stabilize the car and get her out with a ladder. During the investigation of the crash, officers found the driver to be intoxicated. She was taken to the hospital for treatment and there she consented to give a specimen of her blood. After being medically cleared and she was taken to the City Detention Center, and charged with Driving While Intoxicated.
