National Night Out Tonight

Join the Corpus Chief Police Department for National Night Out, a drug and crime prevention event celebrated annually in our city. It’s a night for America to stand together to strengthen police-community partnerships and to promote awareness, safety and unity in our neighborhoods.

The Corpus Christi Police are encouraging citizens to celebrate National Night Out by organizing neighborhood events such as block parties and cookouts. Citizens can also participate by simply turning on porch lights between 6 pm and 10 pm.

Corpus Christi Police Officers and McGruff, the Crime Fighting Dog, will be visiting National Night Out events throughout the city.

CCPD Physical Ability Test

In an effort to accommodate those wanting to learn more about the CCPD Entrance Exam Physical Ability Test (PAT), the Training Division Staff will host PAT Practice every Tuesday and Thursday from 10 AM to 3PM.  In addition, the Staff will host PAT practice every other Thursday evening (see the schedule below).

One Saturday a month, a PAT clinic will be held at 8 AM (see the schedule below).  This clinic will allow a more in depth look into the PAT exercises.  During the PAT clinic, PAT practice will also be conducted.

The PAT testing will be administered at the CCPD Corona Training Facility, 4510 Corona Drive, Corpus Christi, Texas.

Modified Peddler Ordinance in Effect

Grace Period for City’s Modified Peddler Ordinance Ends September 8th

Local and out of town door to door sales people and peddlers had 30 days to become compliant with the City’s updated peddler ordinance. The modified regulations came after complaints to the Corpus Christi Police Department about people selling items in neighborhoods after dark.

The updated ordinance includes:

  • Solicitation hours of operation from 9:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. during daylight savings time and from 9:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. during standard time;
  • Sales are prohibited at homes with “No Soliciting” or “No Trespass” signs;
  • Vendors, peddlers, traveling merchants and commercial solicitors must apply with the City’s Development Services department, 2406 Leopard Street, for a permit that now consists of a criminal background check;
  • Permits must be visibly displayed;
  • Permits will be denied to applicants convicted of a felony; and offenses of moral turpitude;
  • Local non-profit youth organizations are exempt from permitting process;
  • Children under 16 years old are not allowed to step into traffic for donations;
  • Adults or individuals 16 years of age or older soliciting in the roadway must wear safety vest.

The modified peddler ordinance will take effect Monday, September 8th, when fines of up to $500 can be issued. The peddler ordinance can be found at Updated Peddler Ordinance.

Narcotics Unit Warrant

Location: 3815 Magnolia

Detectives with the Narcotics/Vice unit, with the assistance of SWAT and Gang Unit Officers, executed a search warrant at 3815 Magnolia Street. Officers arrested Adrian Rodriguez (3.10.1978) for Manufacturing/Delivery of a Controlled Substance PG 1 and Unlawful Carrying by a Felon.

Investigators seized three 9 mm handguns and a .38 revolver. They also seized 1,727 grams of Powder Cocaine, 231 grams of Black Tar Heroin, 29 grams of Brown Heroin and 7.51 grams of assorted pills. The total value of the narcotics was approximately $53,400.00

Investigators also seized a travel trailer, Mercedes Benz 2 door car and a Cadillac Escalade.

Two Arrested for Capital Murder

Corpus Christi Police Homicide Detectives have arrested Nancy Rae Martinez (02/22/1987) and Albert Villarreal (01/26/1987) following an investigation into the death of a six-year old child in their custody.
The female is the child’s mother, it is unknown what the male’s relationship is to the child but he did live in the home.

CCFD EMS responded to the home in the 2500 block of Fig Street at 8:25 PM on August 27 for a six-year old male having a seizure. The child was transported to Driscoll Children’s Hospital where he later died. Corpus Christi Police Officers were notified of the death after some bruises were found on the child’s body. Officers responded to the child’s home located in the 2500 block of Fig St. to begin an investigation. CCPD Criminal Investigations Division was contacted and they responded to the scene, as well as the Crime Scene Unit. At this time it is unknown how many people were at the home at the time of the call. Officers did find two other children in the home ages three and eight and they appeared to be fine. They were both put into the custody of Child Protective Services.

Both Martinez and Villarreal were booked into the City Detention Center.

Ruth St. Murder Update

UPDATE:

The continuing investigation revealed that additional individuals were possibly involved in the Homicide.  Detectives with the Robbery/Homicide Division located and arrested Gilbert Perez Jr. (07/12/94) for Murder on Wednesday evening. Additionally, they obtained arrest warrants for Albert Suarez Jr. (05/28/95) and Edward Elizondo (08/06/95).

This morning, US Marshals arrested Albert Suarez Jr. in Corpus Christi. As of this posting, Edward Elizondo is still outstanding.

The investigation continues.

UPDATE: 

On Saturday, August 9th 2014, Detectives with the Homicide Division obtained an arrest warrant for Jessie Salazar (10-02-1995).

Detectives were informed that Salazar had turned himself in to the Nueces County Jail on Monday afternoon at approximately 3:15 p.m. His bond was set at $250,000.00

At 6:39 AM, Saturday morning, Corpus Christi Police Officers responded to a suspicious person call at a home located at 2222 Ruth Street.

A 15 year old male called police after he went outside of his house and saw a man lying on the ground. Officers found a 29 year old male victim down a driveway on the east side of the house underneath the stairway leading to an upstairs apartment. The victim had multiple gunshot wounds and was dead at the scene.

Officers were able to contact several witnesses who heard gunshots in the area at about 10:00 PM on Friday night. Corpus Christi Police Officers responded to a call for shots fired at 10:08 PM on Friday night in that area and did recover an unfired bullet, and at this time it is unknown if that evidence is related to the homicide. Officers did not see the victim at that time due to the darkness and the victim’s position.

At this time Corpus Christi Police Homicide Detective are investigating this crime and no suspects have been arrested.

Molotov Cocktails Found in Neighborhood

Offense: Prohibited Weapon

Officers were dispatched to the 4300 block of Harry where they located a plastic bag containing 5 Molotov Cocktails inside a cardboard beer carton along the curb in front of a residence. A gas can with duct tape was next to the carton.

The CCPD Bomb Squad was requested, responded to the scene and disassembled the bottles. CCPD Forensics took all the items as evidence.  

 

 

Patrol Report (Weekend) August 18, 2014

“Charlie” District

Offense:  Aggravated Assault  (PC 22.02)
Case Number: 1408170051

A 39 year old male victim told Corpus Christi Police Officers that he was shot in the stomach and collarbone at his home located in the 4600 block of Vestal St.  Officers determined that a group of friends were returning to the home when a silver colored SUV drove by with its lights off and then opened fire striking the victim. 

Officers found multiple shell casings at the scene and also found that three vehicles had been struck by bullets. One of the victim’s friends who attempted to flee the area when police arrived was Rick Sanchez (05/01/1991).  He was observed by responding officers throwing a handgun into a grassy area down the street from the shooting scene. The handgun was recovered and he was arrested for unlawful carrying of a weapons, a Class A misdemeanor, and tampering with evidence, a third degree felony.

The victim was listed in stable condition after undergoing surgery. Officers are still investigating this case, and no charges have been filed and no arrests have been made in connection to the shooting of the victim.

Corpus Christi Police Officers were dispatched to a home located in the 5600 block of Arbodeda Ln. for a male who had been shot in the arm. Officers found a 16 year old male victim standing outside in the street, holding his right arm. He told officers that his father and his father`s girlfriend had driven him home from a party when someone fired at them when they stopped the car in front of their house. The victim said he didn`t see who shot at them but said he heard several gun shots. Officers observed a Chrysler 300, parked in front of the home, that had three bullets hole in it. The vehicle belonged to the fathers’ girlfriend.

The victim was treated at the scene by CCFD EMS and refused to be taken to the hospital. No suspects have been arrested in this case.

Corpus Christi Police officers responded to a report of a drive by shooting and upon arrival found several bullet casings on the ground in front of a home located in the 4300 block of Gertie St. Officers observed multiple bullet holes in the front wall and windows on the north side of the house. A 24 year old male was inside the home at the time, and he told officers the shots were fired and bullets began coming through the windows and walls. He told officers he had no idea who would fire shots and him or his house, and then refused to cooperate any further.

Officers are still investigating this case, and no charges have been filed and no arrests have been made.

A 41 year old male victim called Corpus Christi Police after he was stabbed by another male on the beach near Bob Hall Pier.

The victim told officers he was camping with his family when he saw another male walking on the beach near his girls and the male was shining a flashlight their direction. The victim and his 15 year old son confronted the male with the flashlight and he immediately became confrontational and pulled a knife out. The suspect then lunged at the victim and as he was putting up his left hand to deflect the knife, his thumb was cut. He was also cut on his cheek.When officers arrived, the suspect had left the scene.

While officers were checking campsites for the suspect they found David Jungmann (07/15/1971). He was identified as the male who pulled the knife and stabbed the victim. He was arrested for aggravated assault. The victim refused medical treatment.

The owner of a business, located in the 2000 block of Airline Road, arrived at work to find two front widows to his restaurant had bullet holes in them. The widows did not shatter because they were painted.  Officers collected bullet casings inside but did not find any evidence of shell casings outside. The business owner valued the damage to the windows to be about $3000.

  

“Delta” District

Offense:  Aggravated Assault  (PC 22.02)

Case Number: 1408160087

Corpus Christi Police Officers responded to business located in the 3000 block of Greenwood Dr. for an assault with injuries. When they arrived, they found a 43 year old male victim bleeding from a stab wound to his chest.

Witnesses told officers that while they were cooking, a fight broke out between family members. As the victim stepped in to try to stop the fight, the suspect Raul Luna (08/18/1965), pulled out a silver pocket knife and stabbed the victim in the right side of his chest.  The suspect then fled the scene. Other officers responding to the scene located the vehicle and suspect in the 1300 block of Sabinas St. The suspect was arrested for aggravated assault, a second degree felony. The victim was transported the Spohn MMC by CCFD EMS, and was listed as being in stable condition.

Offense:  Burglary of a Habitation (PC 30.02)

Corpus Christi Police Officers were dispatched to a Pawn Shop located in the 5200 block of Kostoryz Rd. for a theft in progress. Jesco Rodriguez (04/18/1992) was attempting to pawn a PS4 game system when he was confronted by a 54 year old male victim of a burglary. Upon being contacted by the victim, the suspect took off running. 

The victim told officers he left his apartment unlocked earlier in the day and went to the store. Upon returning from the store, he saw the suspect leaving the apartment complex. The victim went into his apartment and found his PS4 gaming system was missing. The victim went to the nearest pawn shop and that is where he found his property and the suspect. Other officers responding to the call found the suspect at a nearby restaurant after he ran away from the pawn shop and he was subsequently arrested, for burglary of a habitation, a second degree felony. 

After the arrest officers also found the suspect to be in possession of marijuana, and he was additionally charged with possession of marijuana, a Class B misdemeanor.

Patrol Report July 30, 2014

Adam District

Offense: Theft (Felony)

Officers were dispatched for a Theft of an outside air conditioner unit. A witnesses had observed a truck near the building, loading up the AC and then leaving the location. Officers located the truck, in the 1500 block of Lexington, with the AC still in the bed of the truck.

The air conditioner in the bed of the truck had pipes and wires that matched those of the ones at the building where the air conditioner was missing. The truck was impounded along with the AC unit. Stephen Jones (5.13.1957) was arrested and taken to CDC.

Bravo District

Offense: Aggravated Assault
Case Number: 1407290122

Officers responded to the 4900 block of Margo for an Aggravated Assault. Two brothers had been playing a video game throughout the day. An argument over the video game controller occurred with the 12 year old stabbing his 17 year old brother in the back with a knife.

The 12 year old was taken to the Juvenile Justice Center for the assault. The 17 year old was taken to Spohn Memorial for treatment. His injuries were determined not to be life threatening by doctors.

Charlie District

Case Number: 14073000008

Officers made a traffic stop in the 2000 block of Gollihar for failing to maintain a single lane of traffic. Officers contacted three individuals in the vehicle. The driver, David Estrada (8.17.1994), could not provide insurance for the vehicle. Additionally, the license plates on the vehicle had been reported stolen from a Chevrolet Tahoe on July 24, 2014 in the city. Estrada was taken to CDC for the theft and charged with Failure to Provide Financial Responsibility.

Due to one of the passengers being 15 years of age, Estrada was also cited for Inducing Curfew.
