Two Arrested in “Auto Burglary Rampage”

Two men were arrested for multiple counts of auto burglary after Officers responded to 5702 Tanglewood for a disturbance.  Upon their arrival Officers were told Jerry Contreras (10/16/84) had taken the victim’s vehicle without her permission. An argument ensued when he returned the car accompanied by David Rangel (03/10/88) and police were called. Both the men were supposed to have stayed home and watch the kids while she along with Rangel’s girlfriend went out.

The owner of the silver Charger told Police her car was loaded with property which she removed and placed against the house.  Both the men walked away from the complainant’s home and Officers began searching for them in the neighborhood. 

Further investigation revealed the men had been involved in several auto burglaries in the Alvin, Brett, and Crest Valley area.  Officers returned to the home and found the two men hiding in the backyard’s high grass.   

Both men were arrested and booked at the City Detention Center.  Contreras was charged with five counts of Burglary of a Vehicle, while Rangel was charged with four counts of Burglary of a Vehicle.  The crime is a Class “A” Misdemeanor and is punishable by up to a year in jail and a $4,000 fine. 

The stolen property consisted of a backpack, softball glove, anatomy text books, cell phone, purses, radar detectors, and a keyboard.  Officers recovered the stolen property and returned it to the victims.  There were several items Officers believe belong to other victims in targeted area.  If your vehicle was burglarized in this area last night, please call the Criminal Investigation Division. at 3661-886-2841.

 

One Arrested After Night Out with the Guys

An Officer traveling East on SH 358 observed a fight in the parking lot of Club Cheetah.  The Officer turned around and upon his arrival he found one man being held down by a heavyset man. 

Further investigation revealed the man being held down, Andres Campos (06/27/85) was intoxicated and in the mood to fight everyone inside the bar.  Campos began a fight with his friend causing the bouncer and security guard to become involved. 

Campos sustained minor injuries during the scuffle and was treated by CCFD Emergency Personnel.  He was arrested and taken to the City Detention Center.  Campos continued to be combative attempting to punch the arresting officer while he was being booked. 

Campos was charged with Public Intoxication and Disorderly Conduct.

Brave Bartender Wins Stand Off

A Blackhawk Bar employee told Officers she opened up the bar and was inside the bar cleaning when she heard the door open.  A masked man armed with a handgun entered the store.  The 34-year-old victim, who was on the phone, began yelling out the suspect’s description as she ran to the office.  The victim was able to retrieve her gun.

The bar employee exited the office armed with her handgun and both pointed their weapons at one another.   The suspect cursed at the victim and ran out of the bar.  The victim chased after the suspect firing one shot as he ran northbound through the parking lot.

The suspect is male, 6’1” feet tall and weighing 190 lbs. and was last seen wearing Khaki pants, a camouflage jacket, and a mask.

Off-duty Officer Catches Burglar Breaking into Neighbor’s Car

Officer J. Lerma on his way home from an off-duty job checked his neighborhood after a neighbor had reported being burglarized last week.  Officer Lerma found Ernesto Silva (08/10/66) burglarizing his neighbor’s truck. 

Silva fled upon seeing the Officer who followed him and reported the burglary.  Officer followed Silva to the 330 block of Briarhurst where Silva pulled over.  Upon seeing the Officer, Silva raised his hands in surrender.  Officer Lerma arrested Silva who was found to have two of his neighbor’s fishing rods inside the vehicle. 

The fishing rods which had the victim’s name engrave on them were valued at $760 and were returned to him.  Silva was booked at the City Detention Center and charged with Burglary of a Vehicle.  The crime is Class “A” Misdemeanor and punishable by up to one year in jail and a $4,000 fine.

77-Year-Old Woman Assaulted When She Defends Her Son

A 50-year-old male told Officers a man and a woman showed up at the family home looking for his sister.  An argument ensued which led to the victim being assaulted by the pair.  The victim was punched by the male and knocked to the ground where the female continued the assault by hitting him with a baton like stick.

The victim’s 77-year-old mother intervened in attempt to help her son, but she herself became a victim when the female suspect turned on her. The elderly female was struck in the chest with the stick.  Her son sustained bruises to his face and right arm. 

The first suspect is described as a White female, 43 years of age, 5’10” feet tall, and weighing 130 lbs.  The second suspect was described as White male, 25 to 50 years of age, 5’6” feet tall and weighing 230 to 250 lbs.

Man Arrested When He Refuses To Surrender His Drink

A 41-year-old man got a face full of pepper spray and then arrested after the man struggled with a security guard when the man refused to give up his beer after the nightclub closed for business for the night.

The staff for Club Cheetah attempted to collect the alcoholic drink from 41-year-old Byron Scruggs (7/21/1970) after 2:00am in compliance with state law, but Scruggs refused. A 46-year-old security guard collected the drink and Scruggs assaulted the security guard.

The security guard sprayed Scruggs with pepper spray to stop the attack, and then placed Scruggs in handcuffs to wait for police to arrive. The club staff provided Scruggs with water to relieve the effects of the pepper spray. An ambulance provided treatment at the scene to the security guard for minor scratches as a result of the assault.

Scruggs was arrested for public intoxication and a report was generated for further investigation for the assault on the security guard.

SUV Plunges Into the Packery Channel, Both Occupents Uninjured

Officers responded to the Packery Channel where a witness reported a gray Mazda Tribute was driving toward the jetties, but failed to stop and launched the vehicle into the water.  Two Hispanic males were seen swimming towards shore approximately 20 feet from the vehicle’s location. 

The men told the witness they were the only ones in the SUV and left.  Officers searched the area, but both men were nowhere to be found.  Shortly thereafter, a supervisor was waved down at the Stripes Convenience Store located at 14526 S. Padre Island Drive and told both the driver and the passenger was inside the store. 

Both 19-year-old’s were both found to be sober and identified.  They were both released pending further investigation.  The driver could face a charge of Duty on Striking Fixture/Hwy Landscaping, a Class “B” Misdemeanor punishable by up to 180 days in jail and a $2,000 fine. 

Later that morning at approximately 8:00 am, the vehicle was removed from the water by the Police Department’s Dive Team.  The vehicle was unoccupied and confirmed the driver and passenger’s account.   Representatives of The Texas General Land Office, the Coast Guard, the Coast Guard Auxiliary, and Packery Patrol were present during the removal of the vehicle.

Who’s Laughing Now??

 An off duty Officer was at the Stripe Convenience Store located at 4302 S. Alameda when he observed a man carrying some beer, laughing as he ran out the store.  The store clerk following the man ordering him to stop.  The Officer realizing it was a beer run followed the man as he ran to the back of the store.

The man entered a waiting a blue Ford Taurus and fled the area.  The Officer jumped in his car and followed the Taurus and called police providing them with location information.  The Officer observed the suspect dispose of the stolen beer on Brock Drive and Alameda.  The suspect bailed out of the car and fled on foot, followed by the off-duty Officer to Burkshire and Meadowbrook where the beer thief, Justin Montes (09/15/83)was taken into custody.

The 18-pack of beer was returned to the store and Montes arrested.  He was charged with Theft, a Class “C” Misdemeanor and an outstanding Parole Violation warrant.

 

 

Officers serve an afternoon search warrant

Monday 07/02/2012 14:15  5000 block of Cape Romain Dr.   Possession of Controlled Substance 1207020095 

Officers from CCPD Narcotics Vice Investigations obtained a search warrant for a home located in the 5000 block of Cape Romain. Officers had received information about the possible presence of a gang member and several firearms in addition to narcotics at the location. The department Special Weapons and Tactics team was requested to assist. Officers observed subjects inside the residence, but despite requests to exit, the subjects remained inside. Gas was introduced into the home and four subjects exited and were detained. 

Inside the home officers recovered methamphetamine, a small amount of heroin, a rifle and a shotgun.  Sue Farenthold 11/27/63, Michael Wayne 09/10/62, Jesus Juarez 07/22/73 (a known gang member) and Johnny Reynolds 04/05/72 were arrested and charged with possession of controlled substance.  Johnny Reynolds was additionally charged with an outstanding arrest warrant and for failing to identify.

Man Rolls Into Ditch, Facing DWI Charges

Occurred on 7/1/12, 02:38 am  Major Accident/Driving While Intoxicated  6100 Wilderock   C1205026/1207010037 

An early morning accident left the driver of a white Ford Expedition seriously injured and his SUV rolled over into a ditch.  The 27-year-old driver was traveling Southbound in the 2300 block of Airline when he turned Westbound onto a private road.  The driver left the roadway and drove into an embankment into the ditch.  

The driver who appeared intoxicated was not administered any field sobriety tests due to his injuries and taken to Spohn Memorial where he was admitted.  While at the Memorial, a Blood Draw Warrant was obtained along with a Blood Draw.  The investigation continues and charges are pending.
