$13,500 In Tools Taken From Kolda Elementary

Corpus Christi Police are investigating a case in which Tools and construction materials valued at about $13,500 were taken from the Zachary Kolda Elementary School over the Memorial Day weekend.

The Zachary Kolda Elementary School is a new school under construction in the Corpus Christi School District and is located at 3730 Roddfield Road between Saratoga Boulevard and Yorktown. Construction crews arrived Tuesday morning and discovered forced entry into the building and the tools missing. The building is in the early stages of construction. The padlock was cut for the storage boxes in the building which held the power tools.

Police collected several bits of evidence at the scene.

Task Force Arrests Jaime Clark

The U.S. Marshals Violent Offender and Fugitive Task Force apprehended Jaime Clark (4/24/1976) Tuesday Morning at a motel located at the 8200 block of S.P.I.D. for a probation revocation for 5 counts of sexual assault of a child.

The Marshals worked to apprehend Clark since April and discovered that family members assisted Clark to avoid capture. Marshals located a vehicle associated with Clark’s family at a motel on S.P.I.D. and the Marshals watched for the fugitive. Clark exited a motel room at 7:40 am Tuesday morning and was arrested.

The U.S. Marshals Violent Offender and Fugitive Task Force is a cooperation between the United States Marshals Service, the Corpus Christi Police Department, and other regional law enforcement agencies to apprehend fugitives and state and local violent offenders.

Woman Arrested For 2011 Fatal Crash

A 24 year old woman was arrested for manslaughter Tuesday morning at her apartment on the 2000 block of Treyway Lane.

Devry Resendez (10/1/1987) was arrested Tuesday morning for an arrest warrant issued following a vehicle crash on the 5900 block of State Highway 358 by Sunrise Mall which resulted in the death of a 70-year-old woman September 4, 2011.

Corpus Christi Police investigated a crash on the freeway near Airline and South Padre Island Drive on September 4, 2011 in which Resendez drove a gray 2008 Chevy Malibu east on State Highway 358 at 1:00am and struck a 1998 Toyota Camry from behind. A 70-year-old woman was fatally injured and a 24-year-old woman was seriously injured as a result of the crash. Resendez was arrested the night of the crash for Driving While Intoxicated.

Corpus Christi Crash Investigators obtained an arrest warrant for Resendez for the charge of Intoxication Manslaughter to replace the Driving While Intoxicated charge. The Warrant for Arrest also included the charges of Intoxication Assault (for the injury to the 24-year-old woman) and Accident Resulting in Personal Injury or Death (for leaving the scene of the crash without intent to return).

Intoxication Manslaughter is a 2nd degree felony punishable by up to 20 years in prison and up to a $10,000 fine. The Intoxication Assault charge is a 3rd degree felony punishable by up to 10 years in prison and up to a $10,000 fine.

Man Wanted For Theft Arrested Providing Information About A Burglary

A 20-year-old man was arrested for a felony theft warrant after providing police with information about a recent burglary.

A 42-year-old woman requested Corpus Christi Police to investigate a burglary to her home. The 42-year-old woman said the house was entered by some unknown person without her permission and several items such as jewelry and a game system were missing.

The 20-year-old boyfriend to the 42-year-old woman’s daughter was at the house and interrupted the investigation several times in an effort to provide information about the crime. The 42-year-old woman’s daughter was not at the scene during the investigation. The investigating officers discovered the 20-year-old man had an outstanding felony theft warrant.

The investigating patrol officers then arrested 20-year-old Darrell Dow Jr. (5/29/1991) for the warrant and delivered Dow to the city detention center.

Young Woman Dies in Wreck

The Corpus Christi Police Department Traffic Division is investigating a fatal one vehicle accident which occurred in the 12700 block of S. Padre Island Drive. The 20 year-old driver was traveling eastbound when she lost control of her white Chevrolet Aveo and collided with the concrete median.

She was rushed to Spohn Memorial where she died from the injuries sustained in the accident.  Officers report there were no signs of alcohol being a factor in the accident.  The investigation will continue.

Police Search For Cookware Bandit

Corpus Christi Police would like help from the public to locate a man who is wanted for a theft at the Sears last Friday evening.

A loss prevention employee received minor injuries after a confrontation with this man Friday. The loss prevention employee saw the man take $240 worth of cooking supplies and leave the store. The loss prevention employee stopped the man and demanded the merchandise be returned to the store. The man pushed the employee and scratched the employee’s chest which caused minor injuries.

The man then got into a 1998 gray Saturn 4 door car and left. Police obtained the license plate number for the vehicle and have video recording of the man. The man is described as a black male, 20-25 years of age, about 6 feet tall and about 170 pounds. The man has black hair and brown eyes and wore glasses, had a thin mustache, and wore a black t-shirt.

Corpus Christi Police Search For Missing Gorilla

Corpus Christi Police are looking for the individuals that stole a $15,000 inflatable gorilla from a car dealership Sunday afternoon.

The manager of the Sales lot told police that an inflatable gorilla was taken without permission Sunday. The managers saw three people load the inflatable gorilla into a white Chevy Avalanche at about 3:45pm and were last seen on South Padre Island Drive toward Weber.

The gorilla has “Stop N Save” across the chest and is valued at $15,000. Anyone who has any additional information about this crime should call police or call Crime Stoppers at 888-TIPS (8477). Asleep at the Wheel Earns Drunk Man Trip to Jail

Two CCPD Officers patrolling the 10,100 block of SPID spotted a Toyota pickup stopped in the left lane of traffic, partially upon the grassy median.  When the officers stopped to investigate further, they observed Dustin Garcia (DOB: 5-12-1986) passed out behind the steering wheel, with the engine on, the car in drive, and his foot on the brake pedal.  When officers attempted to rouse Garcia,who exhibited several signs of intoxication, he merely pulled away and cursed at them.  Officers then forcibly removed Garcia from the vehicle, which began to roll forward before one of the Officers could jump into the driver seat and put the car in park.  Garcia continued to struggle and resist handcuffing and was, as a result, Tasered. Officers then handcuffed Garcia, who was charged with DWI and Resisting Arrest; Garcia was then booked at the City Detention Center.

Central A/C Unit Stolen From Home While Man Sleeps

Two air conditioner units were taken from two Padre Island homes overnight while the owner slept inside the home Wednesday.

A 54-year-old man said he discovered someone had tampered with his central air conditioner exterior unit and taken the neighbors unit during the night while he slept. The 54-year-old man said he woke to his dog’s barks which prompted him to investigate. The man then discovered the air conditioner units were taken and destroyed leaving an estimated value of damage at about $5,000.

Police Officer Injured in Collision

An Officer en route to minor accident was traveling southbound in the 1900 block of Rodd Field Road when he was struck by a maroon 1993 Chevrolet pick-up truck which pulled out from a private drive.  The 37-year-old driver who had been waved thru by other drivers did not see the police car in the center lane.  The man and his 5-year-old son were uninjured in the accident. 

The Officer was taken to Bay Area Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.  The driver of the truck was cited for Failure to Control Speed and Failure to Maintain Financial Responsibility.
