Buildings Including a Fire Station Targeted for Graffiti

Several vehicles and buildings including a fire station were damaged by paint over the weekend in an area on the north side of South Padre Island Drive between Airline Road and Nile Drive. Several vehicles and a garage door were painted over Thursday night on the 5900 block of Hugo. The side of Fire Station 11 located at Airline and Hugo was painted at the same period of time.

Graffiti was discovered at the 6200 block of South Padre Island Drive at a car sales lot in which a vehicle was damaged by paint. The graffiti was located at several nearby traffic signs, on the wall of a business at Prince and S. Padre Island Dr., on a garage door on the 6100 block of Winston, and another vehicle on the 1300 block of Prince. The damage happened overnight on Friday and the information was gathered by police.

Two people were connected to graffiti at the 6300 block of South Padre Island Drive early Saturday morning and police are investigating these offenses to determine if they are all related.

Dropped CD Player Leads to Burglary and Graffiti Arrest

Two people were caught Saturday morning for graffiti after a person saw the two people complete a burglary of a vehicle. Police Officers were called at about 12:20am to an apartment complex on the 6300 block of South Padre Island Drive for a pair of men that broke into a vehicle.

Officer A. Lopez saw two people who matched the description of the suspects on the 1300 block of Clare. Officer Lopez saw a juvenile male drop a vehicle mounted compact disk player in the ditch and continue to walk. Officer Lopez stopped the two and found spray paint in the back pocket of the juvenile who dropped the compact disk player.

Other officers contacted the person who called in the complaint. The officers were directed to a vehicle that had obvious damage and the in dash stereo missing. Officers also were directed to wet graffiti that was the same color as carried by the man with Officer Lopez. Eighteen year old Martin Trevino (10-29-1993) was arrested for burglary to a motor vehicle, graffiti, and a warrant for his arrest. The juvenile was taken to the Nueces County Juvenile Justice Center.

Driver Arrested In a Hurry Home for Bedtime

A 23-year-old man was arrested at about 1:50am Thursday morning for reckless driving near the site of a recent fatal pedestrian crash. Officer Curtis Volling saw a 2011 Silver Kia Rio turn from Rodd Field road onto McArdle without stopping at the stop sign at that intersection. The Rio travelled wide into oncoming traffic and then accelerated at a speed that was possibly twice the posted speed limit on McArdle as the vehicle travelled to Ennis Joslin. The area of McArdle between Rodd Field and Ennis Joslin is a two lane road with no sidewalks.

Officer Volling conducted a traffic stop and the driver, Brian Venable (7/3/1988) said he had to get up in the morning to go to work se he was in a hurry. Brian Venable was arrested for reckless driving.

Business Burglarized Overnight

Officers contacted the 58-year-old owner of KS Truck Auto Center who reported the business had been burglarized overnight.  It is believed a door to the business had been left unlocked allowing the suspect or suspects to enter the building.

The owner told Officers the suspect or suspects stole $10,000 in assorted mechanic tools belonging to an employee and the business.  At this time there is no suspect information available.

Post Office Worker Caught Mail Thieves.

Two people were arrested Thursday for stealing mail in the South Shore Estates neighborhood. A post office worker phoned police after a man stopped at a house and took a package delivered by the post office worker. The post office worker watched a blue Chevy Cavalier stop in front of the house, the man got out and took the package, and then the vehicle drove away. The Cavalier was driven by a female and the post office worker provided the license plate number to police.

The Cavalier was stopped by police and several packages were located inside the car. The owners of the packages were contacted and the post office workers suspicion of theft was verified. Thirty year old Adolfo Gutierrez (10-29-1981) and twenty-five year old Ivonne Rodriguez (6-26-1986) were arrested for theft.

Alert Neighbor Caught An Afternoon Burglar

An eighteen year old man was arrested Friday for stealing a rifle from a house on the 7700 block of Caribou. An alert neighbor saw a man at about one o-clock in the afternoon wearing a t-shirt, blue jeans, and black shoes as the man concealed some object underneath his shirt. The neighbor followed the man who concealed an object until the man entered a house on Fox Drive. The neighbor phoned police to report the unusual activity.

Police arrived and discovered a house on Caribou with a broken back door window and no one home. The home owner was called by a neighbor and a rifle was discovered missing from the home on Caribou. Police officers went to the home on Fox Drive where the suspicious man entered while watched by the neighbor. Police met Tyler Moore (12-19-1993) and located the rifle described by the home owner on Caribou. Mr. Moore was arrested for burglary to a habitation.

Theft From Taqueria Jalisco

Corpus Christi Property Crimes Investigators are asking for help to identify a man who stole money from the Taqueria Jalisco Restaurant on Cimarron on Monday, February 13, 2012.

The cashier for the restaurant was provided an envelope with cash which was placed by the register near the front door to the business. The cashier turned away momentarily and the envelope disappeared. The video camera surveillance system was reviewed and the person that stole the envelope was seen on the video recording. The man who took the envelope is described as a white male with dark hair and wore a black jacket. The man took the envelope that contained the money, concealed the envelope inside his jacket, then he left the business.

Local Business Burglarized

Officers contacted the owner of Mr. Nice Guys who reported the business was burglarized during the early morning hours. 

Video surveillance revealed two males were seen entering the business through a side window.  The suspects were seen taking numerous acrylic water pipes valued at $250.

DWI Driver Hits Fence

Officers worked an accident in which a black 1996 Dodge Dakota pick-up truck traveling eastbound on Hearn Road lost control and struck a chain link fence. 

The driver who appeared to be intoxicated was administered a Standard Field Sobriety Tests and a blood draw warrant obtained.

Jorge Salinas (10/01/86) was arrested and booked at the City Detention Center.  He was charged with Driving While Intoxicated.

Police Investigate Pedestrian Fatality

Occurred on 02/11/12 09:39 p.m.  Major Accident   7300 McArdle     C1201054

Officers responded to an accident involving a pedestrian who had been struck by a hit and run vehicle.  The 24-year-old female was taken to Bay Area Hospital by CCFD Emergency Personnel.  She was later transferred to Spohn Memorial where she was pronounced deceased.

Further investigation revealed the victim had been walking westbound on McArdle when she was struck by a vehicle traveling in the same direction.  The driver failed to stop and help the victim.

There is very little suspect vehicle information, but a white pickup was observed traveling westbound at the same time the accident occurred.
