14 Year Old Driver Injures Two at Convenience Store Parking Lot

A 4 year old girl and a 24 year old woman were injured in a convenience store parking lot at Horne and Ayers Saturday afternoon after they were hit by a vehicle.

A 1999 silver Dodge Durango hit the woman and the girl at about 5:20 Saturday afternoon. The two injured people were taken directly to the hospital for treatment of serious injuries.

The three occupants of the Durango exited the vehicle and ran from the scene without providing any aid to the two injured people. Corpus Christi Police Officers quickly arrived and located all three individuals who ran from the Durango.

Corpus Christi Police Officers discovered a 22 year old man allowed an unlicensed 14 year old to drive the Durango. The third occupant was a 12 year old boy.

Charges of allowing an unlicensed operator to drive the Durango, will be applied to the 22 year old man. The 14 year old boy and the 22 year old man will have charges of Fail to Stop and Render Aid applied along with the possibility of citations for traffic violations which led to the crash.

Crash Investigators are still on scene at the time of this report as they interview witnesses, review video, photograph the scene and take measurements. Investigators expect to impound the Durango and decide the next course of action for the three occupants of the Durango.

Two separate vehicles drove through the construction area at Everhart and S. Padre Island Drive while workers were repairing the road.  Both vehicles were stopped by Officers providing off-duty traffic control for the construction workers.

At 12:25am, Julian Basaldu (07/16/76) was pulled over after he drove his red Astro Van thru a marked off construction area while the workers were present.  Basaldu was administered standard field sobriety tests and a blood specimen taken.  He was arrested and charged with Driving While Intoxicated/Open Alcohol Container, Failure to Maintain Financial Responsibility and Driving While LIcense Suspended/Invalid.

At 12:54am, the second intoxicated driver also drove through the barricades and proceeded into the intersection.  The driver George Gonzales (11/06/68) was contacted and administered field sobriety tests and a blood draw warrant obtained.  Gonzales was arrested and charged with Driving While Intoxicated and Driving While License Suspended/Invalid.

Man Wanted for Two Home Burglaries

The Corpus Christi Police Department is asking for the public’s assistance in locating Noe Oscar Vela (11/16/1992) who is wanted for two counts of Burglary of a Habitation.  One count has a $40,000 bond, while the second count has a $50,000 bond.  Vela is accused of burglarizing two Concord Street homes where approximately $3,300 in televisions, perfumes, and two laptop computers taken.

The Corpus Christi Police Department is asking for the public’s assistance in locating Patricia Ann Zamora (09/29/1982) who is wanted for Theft (State Jail Felony Enhanced) with two or more prior misdemeanor theft convictions.  Zamora is accused of stealing approximately $250 worth of video games from Target. There is a $20,000 bond on the outstanding warrant.

Two men and a woman were arrested after police were called to the residence for a home invasion in progress.  Officers began arriving in the area and detained Adrian Louis Belt (01/15/94) after he began to run from an officer.  A blue Ford Expedition was parked in front of the residence occupied by Crystal Barrera (09/17/87) who was also detained.  Officers were able to recover a firearm from inside the SUV.  An Officer searching the neighborhood located another suspect,Clarence Oritez MIller (09/22/90) hiding next to a home.

The victims told Officers they answered a knock on the door and two Black  men forced their way in at gunpoint; robbing and assaulting them. A 49-year-old woman and her 57-year-old man were taken to Spohn Memorial with non-life threatening injuries.  A 34-year-old man was also treated by CCFD Emergency Personnel.

Belt and Miller were arrested and charged with Aggravated Robbery and Burglary of a Habitation~Intend Other Felony.  Belt was additionally charged with Evading Arrest. Barrera was also arrested and charged with Aggravated Robbery, Unlawful Possession of Firearm by a Felon.  Barrera was additionally charged with Abandon/Endanger a Child with Intent to Return when it was discovered she left her 2,3, and 6-year-old boys home alone.  Officer’s checked on Barrera’s children and found them asleep.  The children’s grandparents arrived to watch over them.

A 39-year-old man attempted to run a 33-year-old man with a red 2009 Nissan Sentra.  The victim was able to get out-of-the-way prior to being run over.  It appears a 27-year-old woman, which both men are dating is the cause of the dispute.  The driver has been identified and the investigation will be conducted by the Criminal Investigation Division.

The Police and Fire Departments were called to Evelyn Price Park for a vehicle set on fire.  First responders arrived to find a fully engulfed silver Infiniti.  Due to the extensive fire damage, fire fighters were unable to determine what caused the fire until Arson Investigators conduct their investigation.

Police responding to a theft call were told the suspect had fled to 1800 block of Hudson Street.  Officers checked a storage shed behind the residence and observed two legs covered with a blanket and women’s underclothes. As the 14-year-old teenager was being escorted to the 1900 block of Hudson, Officers could see similar women’s clothing hanging on the clothesline.

Police contacted the homeowner and she positively identified the undergarments valued at $180.  The juvenile was placed in police custody and booked at the Nueces County Juvenile Justice Center.  He was charged with Theft which is a Class “B” Misdemeanor punishable by a $2,000 fine and 180 days in jail.

The Corpus Christi Police Department S.W.A.T. Team and the Narcotics Vice Investigations Division served an  Search and Arrest warrant at the Easter Drive residence.  NVID officers seized 21.03 grams of crack cocaine, a scale and some baggies from the residence.

Jose Falfan (04/02/88) was contacted inside the residence and arrested. Falfan was charged with an outstanding Parole Violation warrant and Possession of Controlled Substance.

Vehicle Crashes Delay Commute on Freeway Thursday Evening

Crashes on the freeway near Weber Road that involved 11 vehicles tied up rush hour traffic Thursday evening.

Three crashes happened at 4:45pm on State Highway 358 near Weber Road and fortunately, no injuries were reported. The first crash involved five vehicles. A 41-year-old man drove a white 1995 Ford F-250 with a green trailer east on State Highway 358. The traffic slowed and the truck struck a tan 2002 Lincoln Towncar driven by a 70-year-old woman. The Lincoln then struck a black 2008 Mazda, and then a blue 2013 Hyundai Accent. The 41-year-old man received a citation for failing to control speed.

The second crash happened as a 40-year-old woman stopped her gray 1993 Chevy Suburban to avoid a collision with the first vehicle crash which happened in front of her. An unknown vehicle struck the Suburban and then left the scene. Police are now looking for any information about the vehicle that struck the Suburban and a Hit & Run investigation has begun for that second crash.

The third vehicle crash happened as a 46-year-old man stopped his black 2010 Mazda for the stopped traffic for the previous two crashes. The Mazda was struck from behind by a white 1999 Ford E-150 van driven by a 61-year-old man. The Mazda then struck a black GMC Sierra and then a red 2007 Ford F-150. The 61-year-old man received a citation for failing to control speed, expired vehicle registration, driving with an expired driver license, and for no insurance.

The freeway was re-opened for normal use a little after 6:00pm.

Several Officers responded to the intersection of Holly Road and S. Staples for an accident in which the 32-year-old driver of a blue Chevrolet truck who was traveling westbound on Holly Road turned left and struck a black Chevrolet Camaro driven eastbound by a 17-year-old teenager.

The driver of the Camaro was taken to Spohn Memorial with minor facial injuries.  The driver of the truck who was uninjured was cited for Failure to Yield Right of Way~Turning Left and Failure to Report Change of Address.

Officers observed Roger Jenkins (08/20/78) leaving the apartment complex and recognized him from a previous disturbance call.  The Officers knew Jenkins was wanted and placed him under arrest.  Jenkins was charged with two outstanding Nueces County warrants for Probation Violation for Dangerous Drugs (No Bond) and Terroristic Threats ($5,000 Bond).  He was additionally charged with a third outstanding Nueces County warrant for Motion to Revoke Probation on a Possession of a Controlled Substance charge. No Bond was set on this third warrant.
