Man Arrested After He Threatens to Kill Officers

Police were called to the Holmes Drive residence for the second time for an assault in progress.  Officers had earlier responded to a disturbance call and a report was taken with the two parties being listed as mutual combatants. On the second call, William Bryant (05/30/75) was being provided with an offense report number from the original call when his wife and father-in-law returned to the residence.

At seeing them, Bryant became unreasonable, cursing at the Officers and breaking out the glass of the front windows.  Bryant then locked himself inside the home as he ordered the Officers off his property; threatening to kill them.  Officers observed Bryant with a firearm and took cover.

A request was made for the S.W.A.T. Team’s assistance, but prior to their arrival, Senior Officer G. Alvarez tased Bryant when he exposed himself through one of the shattered windows allowing Officers S. Mitchell and Senior Officer R. Cantu to enter the residence and arrest Bryant.

Bryant was booked at the City Detention Center and charged with Terroristic Threats to Cause or Impair Public Service and Resisting Arrest.

Gang Member Found Rummaging Through Trash

 Police were called to the residence for a burglary in which the suspect shattered the glass to the back door with a rock.  Upon their arrival, Officers observed a suspicious individual dressed in warm-ups and a robe walking away from the area.  Officers report the man appeared to be lost and “walking aimlessly.”

Martin Ruben Porras (06/04/93) was detained, while other Officers contacted the victim.  The homeowner told Officers, Porras shattered the glass to the back door, but was unable to gain entry into the home.  Porras then rummaged through the trash and ate some of the food inside.  The damage to door was estimated at $1,500.

Porras was arrested and charged with Criminal Mischief which a State Jail Felony which is punishable by two years in a state jail and a $10,000 fine.

Stolen Truck Used as Getaway Vehicle

Police were called to the Wal-Mart at 6101 Saratoga Boulevard for  two shoplifters who fled in a stolen pick-up truck.  Loss Prevention Officers told Officers they observed a woman tear open a couple of cell phone boxes, remove the security devices, and hide them in her purse.  A man who was accompanying the woman also placed a couple of quarts of motor oil inside the purse.

The man and woman exited the store where loss prevention officers attempted to stop them.  The suspects made a run for it and were able to reach their getaway vehicle.  The woman jumped into the back of the pick-up truck and was hanging over the tailgate in an attempt to hide the license plate from view as it sped away.    Loss Prevention Officers were able to recover the stolen merchandise valued at $189.

The woman is described as a White female, 5’3″ to 5’5″ feet tall and weighing 145 to 155 lbs.  The woman has a small build with a chunky mid-section.  She was last seen wearing black pajama bottoms and white hoodie.  The man is described as a White male, 6′ to 6’4″ feet tall and weighing 250 to 290 lbs.  He was last seen wearing a brown jacket with a fur collar.  The couple fled in a light-colored Toyota Tacoma stolen on Friday, January 11, 2013 from the Sutherland’s parking lot, 4041 S. Staples Street.

Five Vehicle Crash Disrupts Friday Morning Traffic On SPID

                A crash on the SPID freeway near Weber Road involved five vehicles and sent three people to the hospital Friday morning.

A 44-year-old man drove a black 2003 GMC Sierra pickup west on SPID and entered the freeway from Weber at about 7:30 Friday morning. The 44-year-old man crossed the solid white line and struck an unoccupied black 2008 Volkswagen Beetle which was parked between two solid white lines on the shoulder of the freeway. The Sierra pickup spun and struck a gray 2007 Ford Explorer on the freeway slow lane. The Explorer then struck a gray 2003 Chrysler Town & Country van which struck a red 2006 Dodge Charger. The Ford Explorer rolled onto its side and stopped on the freeway.

A 13-year-old boy, a 16-year-old girl, and a 45-year-old woman were taken to the hospital by ambulance from the crash. The unoccupied VW Beetle was impounded. The 44-year-old man in the GMC Sierra was issued a citation for making an unsafe change from a direct course.

Service Expert Heating & Air Condition was burglarized overnight when the suspect or suspects cut a hole thru fence and entered the property.  Several of their vehicles were burglarized in which approximately $3,900 in tools, equipment, and copper tubing was taken.

Woman “Moonwalks” Herself to Jail

Senior Officer J. Rhodes observed a black Cadillac CTS parked in the intersection of Holly Road and Flynn Parkway despite the fact the driver had a green light.

The driver then turned onto Flynn Parkway and was traveling southbound in the northbound lane.  Officer Rhodes pulled the Cadillac over and contacted the driver Coral Li Rape (06/27/89) who appeared to be intoxicated and unwilling to cooperate with Police.

When asked to perform Standard Field Sobriety Tests, Rape “moonwalked” towards Officers.  Officer J. Sanders placed her under arrest and booked her at the City Detention Center where she was also given a Breath Test.  Rape was charged with Driving While Intoxicated with a Blood Alcohol Content over .15 which is a Class “A” Misdemeanor punishable by a year in jail and a $4,000 fine.

Senior Officer J. Rhodes was dispatched to Jean Street and Delphine Drive for a suspicious subject in the area.  Upon arriving in the area, the man who was dressed in black clothing began to run when he saw the police car, dropping  several envelopes as he fled.

He ran to the west side of the Time Warner building at 4060 SPID, dropping envelopes as he fled.  The man trapped himself in a dead-end and was unable to climb a ten foot tall chain link fence with barbed wire on the top.  Officer Rhodes was able to corner the burglar until Senior Officer L. Rodriguez arrived.

The envelopes were found to have Appliance Mart printed on them.  The business which was nearby was checked by Senior Officer L. Jackson who found the front door glass had been shattered and the building burglarized.

Officers also found a hammer and a mask nearby.  Adam Albert Ybanez (12/27/81) refused to identify himself to Officers, but they were able to match the name on a pawn ticket to the same name on the Police Department computer database.

Ybanez was arrested and charged with Burglary of a Building, Evading Arrest, Unlawful Use of Criminal Instruments, and Failure to Identify.

Two Drivers Taken to Local Hospitals After Head-On Collision

Police were called to the 6400 block of Weber Road for a head-on collision. The Officers’ investigation revealed a black Lexus driven by a 59 year-old man was headed southbound on Weber when he drifted  into the northbound lane and struck a tan Sierra pick-up truck driven by a 62-year-old woman.

The Lexus bounced off the truck and struck a black Ford Expedition head-on.  The SUV was driven by a 40-year-old woman who was accompanied by a 5-year-old child.

The driver of the Lexus was seriously injured and taken to Spohn Memorial, while the driver pick-up was taken to Bay Area Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.  The occupants of the Expedition were advised CCFD Emergency Personnel they would seek their own medical treatment.

The investigation is being conducted by the Traffic and Safety Division and no charges have been filed at this time.  The preliminary investigation leads Officers to believe the driver of the Lexus suffered a medical condition.

Masked Gunman Robs IBC Bank

Police were called to the IBC Bank at 4622 Everhart Road for a bank robbery.  Officers contacted store employees who advised a Hispanic male walked into the bank armed with a firearm and ordered the bank tellers to turn over their money.  The man took an undetermined amount of money and ran out the bank towards Burney Drive.

The suspect is described as a Hispanic male, 24 to 30 years of age, 5’9” to 5’11” feet tall and weighing 140 to 150 lbs.  He was last seen wearing a gray hoodie and the lower portion of his face was covered with a green piece of material.

Man Jailed After Police Called for a Suspicious Vehicle

Police arrested a 22-year-old man after he was found to be driving while intoxicated as they investigated a one vehicle accident.  Officers arrived to find the driver of a Jeep Cherokee attempting to reverse out of a muddy construction zone.  Further investigation revealed, Jose Guadalupe Angel (12/12/90) was driving his gray Jeep Cherokee eastbound in the 3800 block of S. Staples Street when he traveled into the construction zone.  The Cherokee struck a steel barrier and became stuck.

Angel was administered Standard Field Sobriety Tests and a Blood Specimen was taken.  He was found to be intoxicated and booked at the City Detention Center.  Angel was charged with Driving While Intoxicated and Possession of Marijuana when Officers found several cigars containing marijuana inside the Jeep.

He was also cited for Failure to Maintain a Single Lane, No Driver’s License, Expired Inspection Certificate, No Seatbelt~Driver, and Failure to Maintain Financial Responsibility.  Angel was additionally cited for Possession of Fireworks when a pack of firecrackers was found.  Angel’s vehicle was also impounded.
