Auto Burglars Arrested Leaving the Scene of the Crime

Officers were dispatched to the 3400 block of  Xanadu for a Burglary to a Vehicle in progress. The caller indicated that the two males who had committed the Burglary were still on Xanadu but walking away towards Carroll Lane. An Officer arrived and detained John Hernandez (10.7.1992) and Christian Taylor (8.8.1992) who fit the description of the two males.

A witness informed the Officer that both Hernandez and Taylor were inside of a truck in the 3400 block of Xanadu. The witness had actually called the victim and told him that his vehicle was being burglarized. When they went outside to check, both Taylor and Hernandez were walking away from the area.

Hernandez and Taylor were arrested for Burglary of a Motor Vehicle.

Auto Burglary Suspect Arrested After Chase

An Off Duty Officer, working at Roper’s Night Club, called for backup as he observed a Burglary to a Vehicle occur in the parking lot of the club. The Officer was able to give dispatch a description of the vehicle and the direction that it was traveling.

Officers working in the Charlie District were able to locate the vehicle as it was driving South on Staples St. They attempted to traffic stop the vehicle. The vehicle did not stop for the Officers and continued past S.P.I.D. As the vehicle turned on Holly Road an occupant threw a purse out of the window. Since the Officers had a license plate, the pursuit of the vehicle was terminated, per department policy.

Officers recovered the stolen purse and went back to Roper’s to make contact with the burglary victim.

Soon thereafter an Officer saw the suspect vehicle again and was able to make a traffic stop near the Wal Mart at Everhart and S.P.I.D.  The driver of the vehicle, Kara Bateman (8.26.1990), was arrested for the Burglary to a Vehicle. Her vehicle was impounded and during the inventory some of the stolen money, from the Auto Burglary, was found. The money was returned to the victim.

 

Non Working Headlight Leads to Arrest for Marijuana

Officer S. Gonzalez made a traffic stop on a vehicle that had its right headlight not working. Once he made contact with the driver, Jordan Zamora (12.16.1992), Officer Gonzalez smelled marijuana from within the vehicle.

Officer Gonzalez, having probable cause, began to search the vehicle and found a prescription drug bottle with marijuana inside of it. Zamora was taken into custody for the Possession of Marijuana. Upon inventory of the vehicle for impound, Officers located even more marijuana to include drug paraphernalia and also a Prohibited Weapon (knife designed to fit over four fingers).

Jordan Zamora was arrested for the Possession of Marijuana, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia and Prohibited Weapon. His vehicle was impounded.

Ocean Dr. “Rollin’ Stolen” Recovered on Ayers

Officer L. Rodriguez saw a Black Dodge Charger traveling on Ayers St. away from S.P.I.D.  Officer Rodriguez remembered seeing a stolen Dodge Charger on the list of stolen vehicles report and confirmed the license plate with the MetroCom Dispatch Center. They informed Rodriguez that it in fact was the stolen vehicle. Officer Rodriguez’s information, on the stolen vehicle, was broadcast to all Officers working the area. Officer B. Cordell spotted the vehicle at Ayers and Gollihar and made a traffic stop. Additional Officers arrived and assisted in taking Jose Garcia (12.28.1978) into custody for Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle.

The vehicle was impounded for further investigation by Auto Theft Task Force Detectives.

The Dodge Charger had been reported stolen from Ocean Drive on September 19, 2011.

Garcia also had two active Nueces County warrants for Probation Violation and Failure to Appear.

Man Stabbed at Local Billiard’s Club

Officers responded to Rack Daddy’s for an Aggravated Assault regarding a victim (35 yoa Hispanic Male) who had been stabbed.

Units arrived and secured the crime scene and requested the assistance of the Criminal Investigation Division. Officers were told that one victim was assaulted by several bar patrons inside the bathroom area of the club. The victim was stabbed several times throughout his body. The victim was taken to Spohn Memorial Hospital where he was listed in critical condition.

Detectives will continue to follow up on witness information as the investigation continues. No arrests were made at the scene.

Arsonist Arrested

Occurred on 10/07/11, 12:49 a.m.   Arson   4821 Ayers   1110070010

Officers and CCFD responded to a grass fire at 4821 Ayers.  Upon their arrival, Officers contacted a witness who reported Daniel Kortesmaki (10/13/65) started the fire and fled.  Officers located Kortesmaki and he was positively identified by the witness.  Kortesmaki was arrested and charged with Arson.

Drunk in the Whataburger Drive-Thru

Officers were called to the Whataburger reference a female in a truck that was slumped over with her eyes closed, while in the drive thru of Whataburger. Officers arrived, found the lady in the driver’s seat of the vehicle and attempted to wake her and get her to step out of the vehicle. Once she was able to get out of her vehicle for the Officers, they performed several Standardized Field Sobriety Tasks (SFST’s). Officers then arrested Eliza Irigoyen (6.16.1982) for Driving While Intoxicated.

As the Officers were conducting an inventory for the impound of the vehicle, they found several bottles of alcohol within her vehicle along with a cup that had an alcoholic beverage liquid inside of it.

Officers then took Irigoyen to the City Detention Center for further testing and for breath samples.  She was released to the Officers at the City Detention Center for booking.

 

 

Stolen Vehicle Recovered on Hakel Drive

Officers were dispatched for a suspicious vehicle in the area of 4600 Hakel Dr. Callers advised the Dispatch Center that there was a man striking the truck with his hands. Officers arrived and contacted witnesses who stated that the man, had driven up in the truck when it stopped running. The man attempted to restart the vehicle but had no luck. Witnesses said that the man had run down Hakel Dr. Officers inspected the truck and found it to belong to Triple R Motors. Additional Officers went to the location of Triple R Motors and found a crime scene. Officers described the scene of a Burglary and Criminal Mischief as other vehicles had been damaged. The owners of Triple R Motors told the Officers that no one had permission to use the truck that was located on Hakel.

During the investigation on Hakel, witnesses spotted Noe Vela (11.26.1992) and pointed him out to Police as the driver of the stalled truck. Officers made contact with Vela who was in possession of the key belonging to the stranded truck.   He was arrested for the Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle.

The Auto Theft Task Force will continue to follow-up on the other charges.

Aggravated Robbery/UUMV/Unlawful Poss. of a Firearm & Evading

Units responded to the HEB located at Moore Plaza reference an Aggravated Robbery. Upon arriving police contacted the victim who told officers that as he was sitting in his 2002 Honda Accord in the parking lot of the HEB, a male subject approached him pointing a small-silvered colored pistol at him.

The suspect then demanded the victim’s wallet and all of his money. He then took the victims cash as well as his cell phone and ordered him out of the car and onto the ground where he began to search him. The suspect then took the victims car keys and stole his car.

The suspect fled the HEB parking lot driving the 2002 Honda Accord towards S.P.I.D. and Staples.

A short time later officer located the stolen vehicle in the area of Gollihar and Ayers and attempted to pull it over, but the suspect refused to stop. After a short vehicle pursuit, the suspect wrecked at Agnas and 14th street. Although this did not stop his attempt to get away from the officer, he then fled on foot. After a short foot pursuit he was captured in the 1700 blk. of Marguerite St.

Officer located the 25 caliber semi-automatic pistol used in the robbery as well as the victims’ phone in the stolen vehicle.

The suspect was taken back to the HEB, where the victim identified him as having been the subject that robbed him.

Alan Michael Pena, 1-29-1988 was charged with Aggravated Robbery, Unlawful Poss. of a Firearm, Unauthorized use of a Motor Vehicle, and Evading both in a vehicle and on foot.

Woman Applies For Job, With Fake I.D.

Members of the Best Buy management team called Police reference a female who was trying to apply for a job with what they thought was a fake ID. Officers were able to speak to the applicant who claimed that the ID presented to Best Buy was hers and was legitimate.

Officers were able to check the information on the Texas ID card and found it to be for a male out of the Dallas area. The job applicant, Tania Franco (7.13.1980) was arrested. During an inventory of her purse she was found to have two Social Security cards with different names and numbers.

Officers made contact with the Customs Border Protection Office (CBP) who asked to interview Franco. She was taken to the CBP Office and released to their custody.
