ARREST MADE IN DRIVE-BY SHOOTING

On Sunday, April 27, 2025, at 2:11am, officers were dispatched to the 800 block of Barry Street in reference to a drive-by. 

Officers arrived and spoke with a 16-year-old male victim who advised he was walking home when a male offender inside of a white passenger car drove up next to him and began shooting at him. The offender drove into a neighboring complex and parked the vehicle. Officers located the vehicle inside of the complex. The victim was uninjured. 

Officers further investigated the incident and found the offender at an apartment. 24-year-old Xavier Ybanez was arrested for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. The handgun used was recovered by officers.  

Officers do not believe this to be a random act of violence. Ybanez was transported to the City Detention Center for booking.

HIT AND RUN INVESTIGATION

The Corpus Christi Police Department Traffic Division needs your assistance in identifying the driver and vehicle involved in this hit and run accident.

This incident occurred on April 18, 2025, at 10:46 pm in the 5200 block of Gollihar Rd. The vehicle struck a female pedestrian and fled the scene. The pedestrian was transported to a local hospital with life threatening injuries.

AGGRAVATED ROBBERY

Corpus Christi Robbery Homicide Detectives need your assistance in identifying this robbery suspect.

On April 8, 2025, this male stole items from a store in the 1600 block of S. Staples St. and assaulted the owner in the process.

AGGRAVATED ROBBERY

On Thursday, April 17, 2025, at 3:35pm, officers were dispatched to the 5400 block of S. Padre Island Drive in reference to a robbery in progress.

Officers arrived and spoke to the 70-year-old female victim who advised a Hispanic male wearing a hunter green shirt and blue jeans approached her in the parking lot. The victim advised that the male displayed a black handgun, pointed it at her and forced the victim to hand over her belongings, to include her car keys. The male offender stole her vehicle and fled the location. The victim was uninjured. 

Officers continued their investigation, finding the license plate of the vehicle and began searching for the vehicle. The vehicle’s information was entered into the State’s database as a stolen vehicle. CCPD officers were unable to locate the whereabouts of the vehicle after an exhaustive search. 

Later that evening, Guadalupe County Sheriff’s Office located and pursued the stolen vehicle. The driver, 21-year-old Jose Garza, was taken into custody in Fayette County, Texas, and was transported and booked into the Guadalupe County Jail. He was charged with unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and evading in a vehicle.  

Detectives with the Corpus Christi Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division are continuing their investigation on the aggravated robbery.

MAJOR CRASH 3700 HWY 358 WESTBOUND

On Sunday, April 13, 2025, at 12:15pm, officers were dispatched to the 3700 block of Highway 358 westbound in reference to a major traffic crash with injuries. 

Officers arrived and located two adult females, a 41-year-old and a 20-year-old, suffering from major injuries. Medics transported both females to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries. Two juveniles (ages 14 and 13), and three young children (ages 3, 1 and an infant) were also transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.  

Investigators with the Traffic Unit arrived and began their investigation. They found that a vehicle had stalled on the on-ramp westbound from Weber Road. The two adult females had exited the vehicle and were standing in front of the stalled vehicle. A passenger car, driven by a 28-year-old male, entered the on-ramp westbound and struck the stalled vehicle, causing both adult females to be thrown from in front of the vehicle. 

This is an active and ongoing investigation. The highway was shut down for approximately two hours and 45 minutes. 

ARREST MADE IN OVERNIGHT STABBING

On Sunday, April 13, 2025, at 1:49am, officers were dispatched to the 300 block of North Port Avenue in reference to a large fight. While officers were enroute, the call upgraded to a stabbing with injuries. 

Officers quickly arrived and located a 21-year-old male victim suffering from a laceration wound to his stomach and provided medical attention until medics arrived. Medics transported the male to a local hospital with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries. 

Other arriving officers were able to locate the offender as he was leaving the establishment and conducted a traffic stop. 37-year-old Juan Ayala was ultimately arrested for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. He was additionally charged with possession of controlled substance and possession of marijuana after illegal narcotics and marijuana was located inside of the vehicle he was driving.

HIT AND RUN CRASH INVOLVING A HORSE-DRAWN CARRIAGE

On Saturday, April 12, 2025, at 10:54pm, officers were dispatched to the 800 block of N. Shoreline Blvd in reference to a major traffic accident involving a horse-drawn carriage. 

Officers arrived and found that the at-fault vehicle fled the scene (hit and run crash). The sole occupant of the horse carriage, a 24-year-old female, had been ejected from the carriage from the impact. Medics transported her to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.  

Officers determined that the horse carriage was traveling southbound in the right lane. The green passenger car struck the horse carriage from behind. The passenger car then struck a red passenger car that was in the middle lane of travel, then fled the scene. When the vehicle fled, it left behind a license plate. Officers searched multiple locations for the vehicle but were unable to locate the vehicle.

There were no injuries reported for the occupants of the red passenger car. It is unknown if the horse was injured at the time of the crash.

DRIVER ARRESTED SECOND TIME FOR RECKLESS DRIVING

On Tuesday, April 9, 2025, at 10:16pm, officers observed a motorcycle traveling eastbound on the 4000 block of Ocean Drive at a high rate of speed, passing numerous vehicles and dangerously accelerating through curves. The posted speed limit is 45mph and officers observed the vehicle traveling 60-80mph, well over the posted speed limit.  

Officers conducted a traffic stop on the motorcyclist and placed 27-year-old Joshua Martinez into custody for reckless driving. He was transported to the City Detention Center for booking and his motorcycle was impounded. This is the second time Martinez has been arrested for reckless driving.

AGGRAVATED ROBBERY SUSPECT ARRESTED.

On April 9, 2025, at about 9:00 pm Robbery Homicide Detectives, Gang Unit and SWAT Team executed a search and arrest warrant for 32-year-old Alexander Lara at a residence in the 4400 block of Coventry Ln. Lara was safely taken into custody without incident.

Robbery Homicide Detectives received a Crime Stoppers tip that positively identified Lara as the offender for the aggravated robbery that occurred on March 16, 2025, at a local convenience store.

Lara was transported to the main police station for an interview. He was later taken to the city detention center where he was booked and charged for warrants: Aggravated Robbery, Aggravated assault w/deadly weapon 2X, and deadly conduct discharge firearm.

A firearm was located during the search.

ACCIDENT INVESTIGATION CONTINUES

The Corpus Christi Police Department’s Traffic Division is continuing the investigation into the pedestrian fatality that took place at the 3800 block of IH 69 during the overnight hours on Thursday April 3, 2025, into Friday morning.
