Being the victim of any crime can be devastating. Here are some tips should you be the victim of mail theft.

Contact the Police Department and have a report generated.
This will allow the police department to be aware of the incident and possibly determine who the suspect is so that they can be prosecuted.

Report the theft to the United State Postal Inspection Service (USPIS).
The United States Postal Inspection Service and the Corpus Christi Police Department work closely with one another. In some cases, the USPIS will take over the case so that the suspect can be prosecuted federally.

Be sure to monitor your account for any suspicious activity.
In most cases the reason that offenders steal mail is  to get you identity and financial information. Be sure to contact your financial institution and see what options they provide to secure your accounts.

Contact a credit bureau.
Contact one of the following credit bureaus, Experian, Equifax or TransUnion and have them place a temporary fraud alert on your information. Usually this is only good for 90 day and it will require the credit bureaus to contact you directly to verify your identity when anyone inquires about your credit.

During the Corpus Christi Police Departments investigation into the thefts that occurred on the island, via the canals, we have located several kayaks.

Unfortunately, we have been unable to locate the owners of the kayaks because they have not reported the loss to the Police Department.

If you have been a victim of the recent canal thefts and you have not reported the loss of a kayak, please contact the Corpus Christi Police Department at 361-886-2600 so that a report can be generated.

Be sure to have any documentation showing ownership of the kayak.

Today marks the 26^th Anniversary of the murder of Kathleen Suckley.  Investigators want your help to discover any new information which could help locate the individual responsible for her Murder.

On April 8, 1993 the body of 29-year-old Kathleen Suckley was found at her residence located on the 5000 block of Meandering Lane.   Kathleen was found with several fatal stab wounds.  Kathleen’s two young children were inside the home at the time of the Murder.

The month of April is “Distracted Driver Awareness” month and we want our community to be safe as the travel our roadways.

City Ordinance 53-16 Use of wireless communications while driving (abbreviated):
(b) An operator of a motor vehicle may not use a wireless communication device while operating a motor vehicle within the city limits.

(c) This section does not apply to an operator of a motor vehicle using a wireless communications device:
(1) While the vehicle is parked;
(2) That is affixed to the vehicle and used as a global positioning or navigation system;
(3) That is used with a hands-free device;
(4) Who is an operator of an authorized emergency vehicle while acting in an official capacity;
(5) Who is licensed by the Federal Communications Commission while operating a radio frequency device other than a wireless communication device; or
(6) While driving a motor vehicle on private property.

What is a hands-free device?
“Hands-free device” means speakerphone capability or a telephone attachment or other piece of equipment, regardless of whether permanently installed in the motor vehicle, that allows use of the wireless communication device without use of either of the operator’s hands.

What is a parked vehicle?
“Park or Parked” shall mean for the operator to completely cease movement of a motor vehicle in a lawful manner and location. For purposes of this section, “parked” does not include or mean a vehicle stopped in a lane of traffic due to either a lawful traffic control device, or the conditions on the roadway, or traffic congestion patterns then existing.

While operating a vehicle be sure to put your phone down and watch out for other drivers, pedestrians and bicyclist.

The Corpus Christi United States Marshals Service developed information that wanted subject Zachary Hensley 12-23-79 was in Rosenberg Texas.

Our local US Marshals Service contacted their counterparts in Rosenberg Texas and they responded to the residence that Zachary was believed to be occupying. A female answered the door and the Task Force was able to place Zachary into custody.

Zachary Hensley was wanted in connection to the homicide that occurred on March 10^th, 2019 on the 2800 block of Robby Drive. His bond was set at $1,000,000.

Through social media, CCPD has been made aware of a rash of thefts on the island via the canals. By some of the videos we have watched, we have identified 2 people of interest in those thefts.

If you have been a victim of these thefts, please contact us to generate a report. As of today, we have received a limited amount of reports for any of the thefts displayed on social media.

An anti-prostitution sting conducted by the Corpus Christi Police Department’s Narcotics and Vice Investigations Division Thursday afternoon resulted in the apprehension of four men on charges of prostitution, a class B misdemeanor punishable by up to six months in jail and fines up to $2,000.  The men were arrested after they solicited an undercover CCPD Officer, posing as a prostitute, for sex acts in exchange for money.  The operation targeted several north and west side neighborhoods frequented by prostitutes.

NVID Detectives were assisted in the operation by Directed Patrol and Operations Division Officers, as well as civilians with the Red Cord Initiative.  The Red Cord Initiative is a prostitution diversion program aimed to provide practical and emotional support for those involved in prostitution. The program is successful due to the collaboration between the Coastal Bend Wellness Foundation, social service organizations, Nueces County District Attorney Office, and the Corpus Christi Police Department.  The program affords those involved with sex work an opportunity to address the myriad of behavioral, social, and psychological problems they have faced throughout their lifetime. Since 2013, Red Cord has provided case management, health services, job training, substance abuse treatment, clothing, housing, counseling, and other social services needed to address the circumstances related to their involvement in prostitution.  Participants who successfully complete the program have their cases dismissed by the District Attorney’s Office.

All four of the men apprehended during Thursday’s operation agreed to attend a voluntary prostitution diversion education program at their expense.  This program educates men about the negative consequences of prostitution, circumstances that may lead someone to purchase sex, and the impact they have on the individual they attempt to solicit sex from in exchange for money.  The fees raised from this program are then used to provide some of the resources mentioned above, to assist women seeking to escape the bondage of prostitution. Although often inaccurately referred to as a “victimless” crime, prostitution is inextricably linked to multiple other crimes including assault, human trafficking, sexual abuse, drug abuse, and the spread of sexually transmitted infectious disease.  Neighborhoods where prostitution is prevalent experience a drastic degradation of the quality of life that citizens expect and deserve.  The Corpus Christi Police Department will continue to collaborate with all government and private entities to combat prostitution and help accomplish our mission of working with the community to reduce crime, reduce the fear of crime and enhance public safety.

As is our practice we are releasing the information of the officers who were involved in the officer involved shooting.

Two Corpus Christi Police Officers have been placed on paid administrative leave due to their involvement, or presence, at the scene of the officer involved shooting.  The administrative leave is in accordance with current department practice and policy.

Senior Officer Gilbert Cantu has been a police officer with the Corpus Christi Police Department for 7 years. Senior Officer Cantu is a Field Training Officer and was working with a Recruit Officer.

Officer Jacqueline Deleon has been a police officer with the Corpus Christi Police Department for less than 1 year and is in the Field Officer Stage of her Training. Officer Deleon did not discharge her weapon during the incident.

As this call was still actively working, additional officers made contact with a vehicle at the intersection of N Staples/Lipan Street with two suspects who matched the description of the robbery suspects. Upon further investigation, it was determined that the two males inside of the vehicle were involved in the commission of the Aggravated Robberies. A total of 3 guns (2 shotguns and a one handgun), clothing and disguises that were used in the commission of both robberies were located and were later tagged into evidence.

Timothy Leal (10/18/1992) was arrested for Aggravated Robbery as well as 10 outstanding Municipal Court Warrants. A 16-year-old male was also arrested and charged with Aggravated Robbery and Unlawful Carrying of a Weapon as he still had one of the weapons used in the commission of the robbery on his person.

The third suspect involved in the Aggravated Robberies has been identified. A warrant has been issued for Lucas Martinez (12/19/00) for Aggravated Robbery ($75,000 Bond).
