JUVENILE ARREST

On March 22, 2025, at approximately 5:41 pm off duty Corpus Christi Police Officers were made aware of two juvenile males that were seen with a gun.

The off duty CCPD officers were in full department uniform working a security detail at the 5400 block of South Padre Island Dr. Officers were told the two males were in a nearby department store and were observed displaying a gun.

Officers observed the two males exiting the department store. It was obvious to officers one male was attempting to conceal a weapon under his clothing. That male was detained and resisted. He was taken into custody without further incident.

The other male was detained and assaulted a security guard in the process.

Both males were ultimately arrested. One 14-year-old male was arrested for unlawful carrying of a weapon and resisting arrest. The other male was arrested for assault on a security guard and resisting arrest. A hang gun was recovered.

Both juvenile males were transported to the Nueces County Juvenile Justice Center for booking.

OVERNIGHT CRASH ARREST

On March 22, 2025, at about 11: 37 pm officers were flagged down at South Padre Island Dr and Airline Rd (west bound) in reference to a major traffic accident.

Officers observed a severely damaged single vehicle on the cement incline area of the highway overpass.

Officers located a 47-year-old female passenger inside the vehicle with life threatening injuries. CCFD Shortly arrived and extricated the passenger. She was transported to a local hospital in serious condition.

Officers located the driver of the vehicle a few yards away from the crash. The male driver had attempted to leave the scene.

When speaking with officers the male showed signs of intoxication. He was transported to a local hospital for medical evaluation due to the severity of the vehicle crash.

Follow up traffic investigators were called out to assist in the crash investigation.

Witnesses told officers the vehicle was observed traveling west bound in the 6000 block of South Padre Island Drive at a high rate of speed, when it ran through the red light at the intersection. The vehicle struck the curb and light pole causing it to flip and come to rest on the cement incline.

Once medically cleared, officers arrested driver 46-year-old Stephen Sims for Intoxication Assault w/ a vehicle causing serious bodily injury.

He was transported to the city detention center for booking.

AGGRAVATED ASSAULT W/DEADLY WEAPON

On March 22, 2025, at approximately 12:29 am officers were dispatched to the 5400 block of Bowie Dr. in reference to a disturbance in progress.

When officers arrived, they located a 52-year-old male victim with obvious head trauma. CCFD medics were requested.

The victim was able to tell officers he was assaulted by a family member with a blunt object. Its unknown at this time what led up to the assault.

Medics transported the victim to a local hospital where he was last reported to be in serious condition.

Officers checked multiple locations for the offender but were unable to locate.

This is still an active investigation.

CONTINUING ACCIDENT INVESTIGATION

The Corpus Christi Police Department’s Traffic Division is continuing the investigation into the pedestrian fatality that took place at Airline Rd./Holly Rd. on Monday, March 17, 2025 at 10:15 pm.

Investigators are asking for anyone in the area of the accident during that date and time, to please call the traffic division at 361-886-2596. Investigators are particularly interested in a dark in color vehicle that may have more information regarding this accident.

ATTEMPTED BURGLARY SUSPECT

CCPD Detectives needs your assistance in identifying this attempted burglary suspect.

During the early morning hours of March 14, 2025, this male was caught on security video attempting to break into an apartment in the 5900 block of Weber Rd.

Investigators suspect this individual to be the same person involved in the previous burglaries and sexual assault.

UNDERCOVER OPERATION SENDS DRUG DEALING SEX OFFENDER TO PRISON

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – A 27-year-old Corpus Christi resident has been sentenced for possession with intent to distribute over 11 grams of methamphetamine, announced U.S. Attorney Nicholas J. Ganjei.

Sunny Ray Garcia pleaded guilty Nov. 21, 2024.

U.S. District Judge Nelva Gonzales Ramos has now ordered Garcia to serve 60 months in federal prison to be immediately followed by four years of supervised release. At the hearing, the court heard additional evidence of Garcia’s extensive criminal history that includes convictions for aggravated sexual assault of a child, burglary and possession of a controlled substance.

In January 2023, authorities had identified Garcia as a target involved in drug distribution. On Jan. 25, they conducted an operation and purchased drugs from Garcia. The narcotics were later tested and confirmed to be methamphetamine.

When authorities arrested Garcia in February 2023, they also discovered a stolen firearm in his vehicle.

Garcia will remain in custody pending transfer to a U.S. Bureau of Prisons facility to be determined in the near future.

The Drug Enforcement Administration conducted the investigation with the assistance of Corpus Christi Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney Izaak Bruce prosecuted the case.

PEDESTRIAN FATALITY ON HOLLY RD.

On Monday March 17th, 2025, at approximately 10:15 pm officers were dispatched to the intersection of Airline Rd and Holly Rd in reference to a major traffic crash involving a pedestrian.

When officers arrived, they located a 41-year-old female with severe injuries. Bystanders had attempted to render aid. The female was transported to a local hospital by medics, where she later succumbed to her injuries.

Traffic Investigators were called out to investigate the crash.

Investigators were able to determine through witness statements and nearby security video, the female pedestrian was walking west bound at the intersection of Holly/Airline and attempted to cross Airline on the crosswalk. The female did not have the right of way to cross and was struck by a vehicle that had the right of way traveling north.

The driver remained on scene and was not impaired.

ARREST MADE IN AGGRAVATED ROBBERY AT 800 BARRY ST

On Saturday, March 15, 2025, at 2:27am, officers were dispatched to the 800 block of Barry St in reference to a stabbing. 

Officers arrived and could hear an active disturbance with someone being assaulted. Officers made entry into the residence and found a 37-year-old male victim suffering from assault injuries. They also located a 26-year-old female victim suffering from assault injuries. The third male officers made contact with was 30-year-old Justin Gutierrez.  Officers determined that there was no stabbing that occurred.

Officer investigation found that Gutierrez had invited the 37-year-old male victim to the residence where Gutierrez threatened him with a knife and physically assaulted him while stealing personal belongings from the victim. The 37-year-old victim was transported to a local hospital to be treated for his injuries (determined to be non-life-threatening). The 26-year-old female had been assaulted by her boyfriend, Gutierrez, earlier in the evening. Her injuries were non-life-threatening, and she was treated on scene by medics. 

Gutierrez was arrested for aggravated robbery and for assault family violence. During the arrest, he became combative with officers and resisted the arrest. He was additionally charged with resisting arrest. After being medically cleared at a local hospital, Gutierrez was transported to the City Detention Center for booking.

SATURDAY MORNING FATALITY ACCIDENT

On Saturday, March 15, 2025, at 7:26am, officers were dispatched to the intersection of Airline/Holly reference a major traffic accident involving a motorcycle. 

Officers arrived and located a two-vehicle crash. Medics transported the 64-year-old male driver of the motorcycle to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. The driver of the pickup was not injured.

Investigators with the Traffic Unit arrived on scene and conducted their investigation. They found that the driver of a pickup was traveling west on Holly and was attempting to turn south onto Airline through a yellow flashing turn arrow. The motorcyclist was traveling east on Holly through the intersection and was struck by the pickup. 

The driver of the pickup received a citation for fail to yield right of way- left turn. The driver of the pickup was not intoxicated. It is unknown if the motorcyclist was wearing a helmet at the time of the collision. 

HOMICIDE UPDATE

On Friday, March 14, 2025, at 3:49am, officers were dispatched to the 5900 block of Ayers Street in reference to a shooting. 

Officers arrived and located an 18-year-old male victim who was deceased from an apparent gunshot wound. 

Detectives with the Robbery/Homicide Unit are currently conducting their investigation. Detectives found that the 15-year-old juvenile male shot the victim and pointed a gun at another juvenile male before fleeing the scene. Detectives have apprehended the 15-year-old juvenile male and charged with murder and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. He has been booked into the Nueces County Juvenile Justice Center. 

Detectives do not believe this to be a random act of violence as the parties knew each other. There is no threat to the community.
