ON Saturday September 3 at approximately 2:23AM, Corpus Christi Police Officers responded to a report of shots fired in the area of 4400 Valdez. When officers arrived they discovered a car in the driveway of a residence in the area of 4400 Valdez and a 24 year old male in the drivers seat. There were multiple shots fired into the vehicle and the driver (the only occupant) was deceased. CCPD detectives were called to the scene and are actively working to solve this crime. At the time of this post there is no suspect or suspect vehicle information.

CCPD Officers responded to a Robbery call at the Shooters Depot gun shop at about 09:03 P.M. last night.  They found that a 63 year old man and 38 year old man were both seriously wounded by what appeared to be gunshots.  Both victims are employees of the gun shop.   The 63 year old man died short time later after being transported to the hospital.  The 38 year old man is currently in serious condition at a local hospital.  It appears that the incident started as a robbery of the business sometime between 8 p.m. and 9 p.m.

A vehicle belonging to one of the victims was found a short time after the incident at 910 Corn Products road.   It appears that it was stolen during the robbery and then abandoned at that location.  The vehicle contained guns that were stolen in the robbery.

This incident is still in the early phase of the investigation and we have released all information that we can at this time.   There is extensive forensic work being done at the scene and also with the victims vehicle.  There might also be video or witness information that has not been located yet and we are asking anybody with any possible evidence to contact the Corpus Christi Police Department Criminal Investigations Division at 886-2840.

This morning, September 2, 2016 at about 5:50AM, the Corpus Christi Police Department Narcotics Vice Investigations Division, assisted by the CCPD SWAT team, served a search warrant at 900 block of N. Omaha Drive.  This warrant was the end result of a month-long investigation into drug dealing from that residence.

The warrant resulted in the seizure of 2.38 grams of crystal methamphetamine, .51 grams of crack, scales and baggies for weighing and packaging drugs, drug paraphernalia, a homemade “zip gun” made to fire .20 gauge shotgun shells, color copied US currency, multiple cell phones, and a large flat screen television, believed to have been stolen recently.

Arrested were the resident, Mario Salazar (2-15-80), Armando Deanda (7-16-87), and Noe Jimenez (6-10-88).  All were charged with second degree felony Manufacture/Delivery of a Controlled Substance in Penalty Group 1.  Charges related to the printed currency and Felon in possession of a firearm charges related to the zip gun are pending further investigation at this time.

Corpus Christi Police Detectives need your help identifying these burglars. Sometime between August 22 and 23 between the hours of 3:00pm-4:00am a restaurant on the 4200 block of Agnes was burglarized. The suspects apparently cut the lock to the business to gain entry inside. The suspects went through the business stealing cash and several large boxes of bacon. The suspects then fled the scene. The owner of the business did have cameras and caught the two suspects committing the crime.

The Corpus Christi Animal Control and Vector Services received a confirmation of West Nile virus in a mosquito in the 1200 Block of Main Dr. from traps that were submitted August 23, 2016. A total of one detection.

Vector Services has implemented the Mosquito Management Response Plan to this detection. The response entails the following:

1. The spraying of a 1/2 mile radius around the area of the detection for three   consecutive nights beginning tonight, weather permitting.
2. Police Directed Patrol Officers and Neighborhood Services personnel will be attempting to locate any standing water in the affected neighborhood including examining abandoned properties.
3. Vector Services will conduct continuing surveillance of mosquito traps in the immediate area for signs of the Culex species of mosquito responsible for West Nile virus.

The need to spray a larger area is not necessary based on the entomology of the Culex species mosquito and the normal travel distance of this mosquito. Vector Control will be conducting the aerial spray in the evening, and at dusk, since that is the time the Culex is most active. Residents are reminded to check their property for standing water and to avoid, if possible, outdoor activities at dusk and dawn, wear long sleeve shirts and long pants. Use appropriate mosquito repellent with DEET for themselves and their children. Please call 361-826-2489 if you wish to report abandoned property or high grass or standing water.

The Corpus Christi Police Department remembers Patrol Officer John William Sartain who was shot and killed by a sniper on August 20, 1971 at 11pm.

Officer Sartain walked to his patrol unit to begin his shift with partner, Gilbert Lazo. A 16 year old sniper shot Officer Sartain in the head from an apartment 200 yards away. Officer Sartain was 22 years of age and is survived by a wife and daughter.

The sniper pled not guilty to the charges and was convicted and sentenced to 50 years in 1971. He was later paroled in 1984.

Corpus Christi’s founder, Henry L. Kinney, named many of the city streets after nature, including one of the city’s original streets; Laguna St. Laguna St. was renamed in 1991 as John Sartain St.
