City Hosts Vehicle Auction Saturday

The City of Corpus Christi will auction 112 cars, trucks, and motorcycles at the Police Vehicle Impound Lot, located at 5485 Greenwood Drive, on Saturday, April 2, 2016. The auction will start at 10:00 am. There are 26 of the 112 vehicles which were impounded for no insurance.

The general public is encouraged to register and view the vehicles for auction from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm on Friday, April 1, 2016. The general public can continue to view the vehicles from 8:00 am to 10:00 am on the day of the auction.

The vehicles for auction may be viewed online and an auction list may be downloaded from www.siskauction.com.

Man Wanted on numerous warrants gets away, for now…

U.S. Marshals and C.C.P.D. attempted to take Mr. Issac Collins, 02/27/1987, into custody at about 9:45 p.m. last night. He evaded arrest and pursuing Officers thought that they had him located in the attic of a home in the 2200 block of Baldwin Blvd.   CCPD SWAT was called because they have specialized training and equipment that would assist in taking this fugitive into custody from that challenging environment in a safe and timely manner.  Mr. Collins was not located.   The SWAT operation was concluded at about 01:45 a.m. this morning but the search continues for Mr. Collins by several agencies.  Issac Collins is wanted out of Brewster County on numerous property crime related warrants.

 Anyone who knows any additional information about this fugitive or any other crime should contact the Corpus Christi Police Department at 886-2600. CCPD Social Media Success- Missing Children Were Quickly Located

At about 7:20 yesterday evening, Officers were dispatched to the 4200 block of Violet Road in response to a call for three missing children. Responding Officers and concerned neighbors did an extensive search of the area and the missing children were not found.  Supervising officers at the scene obtained images of the missing children and contacted the CCPD Public Information Office.   The images of the children and details of the event were posted to the CCPD Facebook and Twitter accounts and a short time later, a call came into Metrocom that citizen who follows CCPD on Social Media had seen the children on an RTA bus. Metrocom employees made contact with RTA via our shared communication system and were able to have the bus located and stopped. Officers were able to confirm the children were on the bus and the children were transported back to their home at about 10:30 P.M.  All three children were in good condition and appeared unharmed.

Corpus Christi Assault Victim from 2006 Dies

Mr. Ricardo Guadiana, 08/24/1980, died near San Antonio on 03/09/2016. The Bexar County Medical Examiner’s Office ruled that the cause of death was blunt force trauma directly related to the aggravated assault that occurred here in Corpus Christi on 09/27/2006. Three offenders were charged and convicted of aggravated assault for the incident that occurred in the 1700 block of 16th Street.

Mosquitos Are On the Way! City Asks for Help to Minimize the Mosquito Impact

With the rain that just occurred and the warm weather projected for next week, Corpus Christi can expect an increase in mosquito activity within our city. As you are out enjoying your spring break, keep in mind the 5 Ds of mosquito bite prevention.

    • Dump- Mosquitos spend the beginning of their lives developing in aquatic environments and they don’t mind small spaces. By periodically dumping standing water you can prevent them from growing into adults that feed on you. Standing water in old tires, plant containers, buckets and any other containers with standing water all provide a great environment for many species of mosquitoes to develop. By being vigilant in dumping these containers you are doing a lot to control mosquito populations.
    • Drain– Kiddy pools, water troughs, pet water dishes and birdbaths all provide an ideal environment for mosquito larva to grow. You can prevent this by regularly draining and refilling these water sources.
    • Dress– When you are dressing to go outdoors prepare for mosquitoes. Wear clothing that covers as much skin as possible to prevent bites. Long pants and long sleeve shirts made out of lighter materials are ideal in our hot summer climate when venturing into the great outdoors. Also consider hats with mosquito netting
    • DEET- Use an insect repellent that lists DEET or alternatively eucalyptus oil to prevent mosquito bites. DEET is proven to be the most effective repellent and safe for human use. Bug zappers, candles and ultra- sonic devices are not effective mosquito control measures. Save your money and invest in proven solutions like DEET based insect repellents.
    • Dusk/Dawn- Mosquitoes are most active during the early morning and evening hours. Try to stay indoors during these time periods and if that is not possible make sure you are dressed to prevent mosquito bites and using DEET based insect repellent.

The city will be out next week larvaciding public areas that have standing water to help prevent the hatching of mosquito larva.

The city does not spray aerosol adulticide unless we have a detection of an arbovirus or a continuous high count of a specific species of mosquito at a trap site.

Police Remember Lieutenant Stuart Alexander

The Corpus Christi Police Department remembers fallen officer, Lieutenant Stuart J. Alexander who was killed in the line of duty March 11, 2009. A Corpus Christi Police Patrol Officer initiated a traffic stop and the violator attacked and physically assaulted the officer. The violator fled from the traffic stop and scene of the assault of the police officer in a vehicle. The violator used the vehicle as a weapon against responding officers and rammed several pursuing patrol vehicles.

Lieutenant Alexander positioned himself on the grass median on State Highway 358 near Agnes for road spike deployment. The violator abruptly swerved and intentionally struck Lieutenant Alexander.

The suspect continued to use his vehicle as a weapon against officers until he was shot by Corpus Christi Police Officers and arrested.

Lieutenant Stuart Alexander was 47 years old, a 20 year veteran of the Corpus Christi Police Department and is survived by his wife, his son, and three grandchildren.

Taxi Inspector is Ready for Business

The Corpus Christi City Council passed an ordinance yesterday that officially makes Corpus Christi open for business when it comes to Transportation Network Companies. This amendment to Chapter 57 defines the necessary steps that must be taken by a person to become a legal operator for any Transportation Network Company that wishes to provide service in the City of Corpus Christi. The Taxi Inspector for the City of Corpus Christi extends a warm welcome to anybody that is interested in driving for a company that will be providing this service to the citizens of our community.

Suspect Swipes Cell Phone From Shopping Cart

Corpus Christi Police Detectives need your help identifying a man that they believe stole a cell phone from the shopping cart of a customer while he was at the Home Depot Store, located at 5041 South Padre Island Drive on February 2.

The customer, who didn’t realize his phone was missing at first, said that the suspect took the phone from his cart when he was not looking and then walked out and got into a grey vehicle.  Employees of the store were able to provide police with video images of the suspect from the stores camera surveillance system.

The suspect appears to be a Hispanic male, twenty to thirty years old with dark hair and glasses.  He was last seen wearing a pink polo shirt and black pants.  He was seen getting into the front passenger seat of an older model four door grey Chrysler 300 that left going east on South Padre Island Drive toward South Staples Street.

Corpus Christi Police Bomb Squad Helps 3rd Annual Beeping Eggstravaganza for the Blind

The Corpus Christi Police Bomb Squad will help the South Texas Lighthouse for the Blind and the Texas Department of Assistive and Rehabilitative Services to host the 3rd annual Beeping Eggstravaganza for the Blind on Saturday, March 19, 2016 at Buc Stadium. This event is an Easter Egg hunt for children who are blind or visually impaired in which the eggs beep to allow the children to follow the sound in order to find the eggs. Participants must call 289-9710 to register before the event. The event starts at 1pm at Buc Stadium and anyone interested to sponsor the event should call 693-6183.
