Suspect In Shooting Taken to Jail

The man who pointed a gun at a Corpus Christi Police Officer and a Nueces County Sheriff’s Deputy and was shot at a home in the 14600 block of Red River Drive has been released from Spohn Memorial Hospital and taken to jail.

Tyson Sudderth (05/26/1994), who was shot by the Officer and the Deputy on December 21, was released from the hospital after being treated. He was then arrested and taken to the City Detention Center.

The suspect has been charged with two counts of attempted capital murder against the Officers after he pointed a handgun at them. He is additionally charged with aggravated assault family violence for assaulting and threatening his 26 year old girlfriend with the handgun prior to police arriving.

On December 21, 2015 at approximately 10:19 pm, officers were dispatched to the area of 14600 Red River Drive in reference to a report of shots being fired.

Offices arrived and were informed by a citizen that there was a male inside the house and he had fired a round. As officers were responding to the residence, the female victim came out and advised the officers that there was a man inside the house with a gun. She also stated there were two children under the age of ten inside the house with the suspect.

As officers were securing the scene, the 21 year old male came out of the home with a gun in his hand. Officers began communicating with the suspect and gave orders to drop the gun. The suspect refused and pointed the gun at the officers. The officers fearing for their life fired their weapons striking the suspect. The suspect was transported to Spohn Memorial with non-life threatening injuries.

One officer from the Corpus Christi Police Department and one officer from Nueces County Sheriff’s Department were placed on administrative leave during the investigation. CCPD will be conducting the investigation working closely with NCSO.

At this time the suspect faces charges of aggravated assault family violence and attempted capital murder.

Robbery Suspect Turns Himself In

A man Corpus Christi Police were looking for in connection to a robbery, that occurred on December 15 at a store located at 6410 Weber Road, was identified by his mother after she saw media reports that Officers were looking for him.

The suspect was identified as the man seen in the video attempting to cover his face and robbing the store with a knife.  After seeing news reports of the robbery, his mother, called police on Friday and identified her son as the man Officers  were looking for.

Later that same day, the suspect, Johnny Joe Montoya (02/03/1975), came to the police department and turned himself in.

Group of Thieves Roam Residential Streets

The Corpus Christi Police Auto Theft Task Force would like help from the public to identify and locate the group of people who stole items from a vehicle on the 2600 block of Wool Drive last Wednesday morning.

An 18 year old woman reported a burglary to her vehicle Wednesday morning. The 18-year-old woman told Officers an unknown person went into her vehicle parked in her driveway overnight and stole papers with her identifying information. The 18-year-old woman provided video of the actual event.

Detectives watched the video and learned there were a group of people who roamed the street and approached several vehicles in the neighborhood. The video shows three people entered the 18-year-old woman’s car and opened the trunk to steal items from the car. The video shows a dark color truck with the door open which followed the group of thieves through the street.

Corpus Christi Police would like the public to be aware of this video to understand the activity so they may take precautions to reduce the risk of becoming a victim. Police encourage no valuables be left in an unattended vehicle.

Corpus Christi Police would like to warn the public about thieves who are taking packages from the front doors of homes left by parcel delivery services in Corpus Christi.

One particular incident happened on Monday afternoon on the 4300 block of Bratton Road which a theft was captured on video by the home owner. A 25-year-old woman told Corpus Christi Police Officers she discovered a silver Cadillac four door sedan stopped in her driveway at about 3:37pm and an unknown man got out of the passenger side of the car. The 25-year-old woman told Officers the unknown man went to the front door of her home, took packages left by a parcel service, and the man got back into the car and left the area. The 25-year-old woman told Officers she did not know exactly what was taken because she expected several deliveries and would have to take time to research what was delivered by the service.

Missing Person Found Safe

The family of 42-year-old Martin Zapata reported him as a missing person to the Corpus Christi Police Department after none of the family had any contact with Martin for several days. The family explained to Detectives that Martin was last seen on November 21, 2015 after he left angry from a family members home on the 4600 block of Coventry Lane. The family members told Detectives Martin did not show up for classes at Del Mar College and has not been in contact with any of the family. Detectives believe Martin may be at risk of harm and would like help from the public to locate Martin.

Martin Zapata is described as a 42-year-old Hispanic male, 5 feet 5 inches tall, 180 pounds, wears glasses and has faded tattoos on his left arm.

Warrant Issued For Man who Robbed Two Restaurants

Corpus Christi Police Detectives have obtained an arrest warrant for a suspect they believe robbed two separate restaurants on December 11.

Detectives have identified the suspect as, Kenneth Burk (09/06/1976). The suspect now has a warrant for aggravated robbery issued for his arrest.   The bond amount on that warrant is $250,000.

Just after 7 PM, the suspect went into the Subway restaurant located at 5441 Everhart Road and ordered a sandwich. When the suspect went to pay, the cashier opened the cash drawer and the suspect pulled out a handgun and demanded the money.  The suspect exited out the front door and was last seen running west on Bonner Drive.

Just before 10 PM, the suspect went into the Pizza Hut, located at 10702 Leopard Street and ordered a pizza. Again, when the suspect went to pay for the food, the cashier opened the cash drawer and the suspect pulled out a handgun and demanded the money.  The suspect exited out the side door and was last seen running through an apartment complex behind the restaurant.

A 47-year-old man reported an aggravated Robbery at a restaurant located at 5441 Everhart Road to the Corpus Christi Police Friday evening.

The 47-year-old man told Officers that a man displayed a handgun and demanded money from the register. The 47-year-old man told Officers that he handed the man the money, and the man ran out of the building and was last seen running west on Bonner.  No injuries were reported.

The 47-year-old man described the man as a male with dark skin, bald, and was about 6 feet tall and about 180 pounds. Police have not located the suspect.

Investigators Believe Abducted Child May Be In Corpus Christi

Maria Earl is a fugitive with a warrant for child abduction and may be in the Corpus Christi area.

Investigators contacted the Corpus Christi Crime Stoppers for help to locate John Stanley Earl Junior, an abducted child who Investigators believe may be in the Corpus Christi area. The Mason County Sheriff’s Office Investigators believe Maria Earl (5/22/1962) abducted John Stanley Earl Junior (1/26/2005) on June 15, 2012. Investigators said John was last seen in the company of his non-custodial mother, Maria Earl, and Investigators have obtained three warrants for the arrest of Maria Earl related to the abduction.

Maria Earl is described as a 53 year old woman, about 5 feet 4 inches tall, about 140 pounds, with black hair which may have been highlighted to brown, and brown eyes.

John Earl has a scar on the back of his neck and Maria Earl is known to have used the alias of Teresa Paredez. Investigators provided an image with age progression which shows how John may appear at 9 years of age.
