Chief Seeks Charges For Hoax

Corpus Christi Police responded to a possible abduction call in the 3200 block of Surfside Boulevard Wednesday afternoon.  Two girls initially reported that they were taken involuntarily by three men in a brown van.  During the investigation, Detectives discovered the claim was false and no actual abduction occurred.

Chief Floyd Simpson stated that he will reach out to District Attorney Mark Skurka about the possibility of filing charges for “False Report” on the two juvenile females. A report was written, listing the two as suspects in the case. “The department takes each one of these calls very seriously and we spare no expense to investigate it” he said. “It draws police resources during the call and then resources to investigate the case”.

Some of that investigation time was on an overtime basis, at the expense of the community and the Chief feels that restitution should be made. “We are working with City Legal and Risk Management as well see how we can begin seeking restitution, if it all possible” he concluded.
