Auto Burglar Found Snoring Away

Officers M. Smotherman and S. Gonzalez were dispatched to the 3800 block of Wasserman for an individual passed out in a front lawn.  When they arrived, they found Avery Rankin (11/22/89) passed out in the front yard of Herndon at Wasserman. A make-up bag and a vehicle owner’s manual was laying next to him.  A camera was also found on his person.

Rankin appeared to be very intoxicated and arrested. The owner’s manual returned to a home in the 4000 block of Brawner Parkway. Officers were able to talk to the homeowner who identified the paperwork  and owner’s manual which had been stolen from his vehicle.  Avery was arrested and charged with Public Intoxication and Burglary to a Vehicle.

Officers did report finding additional stolen property and Detectives are in the process of identifying the victims.

Man Walking in the Road Found to be Wanted

Officer M. Dominguez was patrolling his beat when he contacted Melvin Garza (01/12/59) walking in the roadway at 1400 Painter.  Garza was found to be wanted and arrested.  He was booked at the City Detention Center and charged with an outstanding Nueces County warrant for Assault.

Garza had assaulted a 55-year-old woman who refused to give him a ride home.

“Where’s the Beef??”

Police were called to El Gavilan Taqueria for a burglary in which suspects forced open the back door.  Once inside the suspects ransacked the restaurant and stole approximately $400 in meat.  The owner advised the restaurant was burglarized the night before but the burglary was not reported to police.  A surveillance camera, audio equipment, and $300 worth of meat was stolen during the previous night’s burglary.

Police Seek Bank Robber on Weber Rd.

               Corpus Christi Police are investigating a bank robbery which happened at 5875 Weber Road Saturday morning.

A man walked into the bank at about 9:20 in the morning, threw a bag onto the counter in front of a teller, and demanded money. The man did not present a weapon and no person was injured. The teller complied with the demand and the man left into an apartment complex located south of the bank.

Police are looking for a man, about 20 years in age, who stands between 5 ft. 2 inches to 5 ft. 6 inches tall, and wore a heavy gray jacket, white hat, black sweat pants, and white shoes.

Pet Resort Burglarized

Corpus Christi Property Crimes Detectives are asking the public’s assistance to identify a burglar who vandalized Barkaritavill Pet Resort.  An employee reported to Officer’s the business was vandalized overnight.  Surveillance video shows two individuals just prior to them removing the security camera.

The two individuals also pry open a Dog Wash Machine taking the money inside.  Total damage and money taken was estimated at $2,100.

Police Seek Information About Theft Suspect On Ocean Drive

                Corpus Christi Police Property Crimes Detectives would like help from the public to identify and locate a man who stole money from a Corpus Christi Business on January 16, 2013.

A business in the 4600 building on Ocean Drive had the front desk unattended momentarily and discovered an envelope which contained over $1,000 dollars missing from the front desk. The employees reviewed their video surveillance system and saw a man enter the business, look around the front room, then search through the front desk until he found the envelope with money, and then the man left.

Corpus Christi Police Detectives have obtained images from the video of the man who stole the money. The man is described as 5 ft. 6 inches to 5 ft. 9 inches tall, 150-170 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes, and he wore a beanie cap, glasses, full beard, a tan jacket with a green shirt, blue jeans and dark shoes.

Homicide Detectives Solve Wynwood Drive Murder

The Corpus Christi Police Department investigated the death of a 20-year-old Corpus Christi man who was found deceased in the 1500 block of Wynwood Drive on January 20, 2013.

Detectives with the Police Department’s Homicide/Robbery Bureau have solved the young man’s murder. Through witness statements and physical evidence, Detectives were able to obtain a search warrant on a vehicle and arrest warrant for the suspect involved in the homicide. The search warrant for the vehicle was served in the 11300 block of Windsor where Officers also found the murder suspect.

Mark Anthony Ramirez (06/03/1994) was arrested and charged with Murder, a First Degree Felony punishable by up to 99 years in jail and a $10,000 fine. His bond was set at $100,000.

Man Grazed by Gunfire During Robbery

Police were called to Spohn Shoreline’s Emergency Room for a walk-in shooting victim.  Upon their arrival, Officers contacted a 32-year-old man who reported it shortly after midnight when he was attacked by two men in the 400 block of S. Brownlee.  The man told Officers he was walking to his girlfriend’s house when he was robbed.

The men demanded the victim’s money at gunpoint.  A struggle ensued over the firearm and several shots were discharged.  The victim told Officers the suspects stole his money and fled.  He then ran to girlfriend’s home on Jasmine Court.

The victim had several cuts to his to hand, hip, head, and abdomen where he had been grazed by the gunfire.  The victim told Officers he didn’t call Police or seek treatment at the time of the shooting.  He became concerned when the wounds failed to heal and sought medical help.

Both suspects are described as being Hispanic males, 20 to 25 years of age, 5’5” to 5’8” feet tall.  They were last seen wearing black shirts and blue jeans. Both donned bandanas to cover their faces.

Three Charged with Shooting at “Good Neighbor”

Police were called to the Wharf Apartments when a witness observed several individuals burglarizing a neighbor’s pick-up truck.  Further updates advised the suspects were shooting at the caller who was following the suspects.

Senior Officer C. Alejandro observed the vehicle at the Castle Park Apartments.  As he approached the vehicle, the occupants ran inside one of the apartments.  With the cooperation of the tenant, Officers were able to apprehend all three suspects and place them under arrest.

Michael Martin (02/06/91), Alexa Kaye Barnett (10/25/94), and David Mathew Davila (09/17/95) were all charged with Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon and Evading Arrest.

Officers were able to recover possible stolen property from the vehicle, but they were unable to locate any victims.  If you were a victim of an auto burglary in the area, please contact Criminal Investigations at 361-886-2841.

The Corpus Christi Police Department does not recommend confronting individuals involved in a criminal act due to the potential danger.  However, the Police Department is appreciative of the courage demonstrated by the witness in helping capture these three individuals.

Man Robbed During Meeting with Escort

Police were called to Blackbeard’s  Restaurant and contacted a 37-year-old man who reported he had been robbed.  The man told Officer’s he made arrangements to meet Rachell Fulton (02/20/88) at a local hotel on North Beach via an internet escort service.

Upon arriving at the hotel, he was confronted by Fulton and Randal Moore (04/02/86) who was armed with a firearm.   Moore demanded the victim’s money threatening to have Fulton release the two dogs she had with her.

The victim complied and ran to the restaurant where he called police.  Officers were told the couple ran towards Pier 99 where Senior Officer R. Burton quickly apprehended them.  Officers were also able to recover the victim’s money.

Moore and Fulton were positively identified by the victim.  They were both arrested and charged with Aggravated Robbery.  The dogs were also picked up by Animal Control.
