Update on Hit and Run with Images of Supect Vehicle

Corpus Christi Police Officers were dispatched to Harmon St. and Mary St. for a hit and run crash involving a pedestrian. Upon arrival they observed a 56 year old female victim who appeared to have injuries to her hip and lower leg. Several witnesses stated a black truck was traveling west on Mary St. when it went through the four way stop sign at the intersection. The truck then stopped and began to reverse. The vehicle then backed into the victim as she was crossing the street. The truck then began to drive forward striking the victim again and dragging her under the vehicle several feet. The suspect is described as a male, 30-40 years of age, wearing a tan straw cowboy hat.  Images obtained from a nearby camera show a  the suspect driving a full size black Chevrolet truck, 2003 – 2006 year model, with chrome on the wheel wells, and chrome step sides. The vehicle is low with distinct chrome flaring on the fenders. The vehicle has a large nerf bars and appears to have a low profile tool box.  The truck was last seen traveling south on Harmon Street.  Anyone who can identify the individual responsible, or has any additional information about this crime should call the Corpus Christi Police Hit and Run Detectives at 886-2689. Corpus Christi Police Officers were dispatched to 4443 Ocean Dr. for a burglary to a vehicle in progress. A 23 year old female caller told officers she observed the suspects go into several vehicles in the parking lot of the apartment complex and place stolen items in the back seat of a red Chevrolet Cobalt and flee the scene. Officers responding to the call saw the suspect vehicle traveling in the 200 block of Doddridge St. The officers contacted the driver, Susie Baltazar (05071993) and Jose Montoya (12031990). Both individuals were arrested and taken to the City Detention Center. Other items in the suspect vehicle were recovered that are believed to be from other vehicles the suspects may have broken into.

Offense: Aggravated Assault with a Motor Vehicle (PC 22.02 1st Degree Felony)

Corpus Christi Police Officers responded to the1800 block of Trenton Street for an assault with a vehicle. Officers found a 31 year old male in the roadway with injuries and a witness, who was a friend of the victim. The witnesses said that he and the victim had just left a home on Hawthorn Street, and that the victim had been arguing with his girlfriend. The victim and witness both left riding on bicycles down Trenton Street. The suspect drove down the street in her car, called out the victims name, and accelerated toward him. The vehicle struck the victim and then fled the scene. The suspect vehicle, a 2014 Chevrolet Cobalt 4 door was located later on Hawthorn Street and impounded, however, there was no contact with the suspect.

Corpus Christi Police Officers responded to a burglary to a new home that is for sale in the 8000 block of Calgary Drive. The superintendent of construction for the home builder said that sometime overnight all the appliances were stolen from the home, including the garbage disposal. No forced entry into the home was found, but it appears a vehicle was backed into the garage to load the appliances.

Offense: Burglary of a Vehicle (P.C. 30.04 Class A Misdemeanor)

Corpus Christi Police responded to an apartment complex for a male looking into vehicles. The officer was flagged down by two witnesses in the parking lot who gave a description of the male. The officer was able to locate and observe the suspect for several minutes. During that time, the suspect entered the unlocked rear passenger door of a vehicle. The officer contacted the 46 year old owner of the vehicle to verify he did not give the suspect permission to enter the car. Jason Montgomery (08/23/1995) was arrested. Other vehicles in the complex are believed to have been entered. It also appears the suspect entered only unlocked cars.

Offense: Theft Purse Snatching (P.C. 31.03 Class A Misdemeanor)

Corpus Christi Police responded to the HEB Plus located at 5313 Saratoga Blvd. for a purse snatching. This was the second call for a purse snatching involving the same suspects. The first one occurred approximately 30 minutes earlier at the Walmart located at Parkdale Plaza. The suspects would drive through the parking lot and target elderly females as they were unloading their shopping carts. Following the purse snatching at the HEB, officers were able to locate the suspect vehicle parked nearby in a parking lot. Officers made contact with the suspects and located all of the stolen property from the victims. Kenneth George (09/27/1987) and Joseph Chambers (08/12/1985) were both arrested and taken to the City Detention Center.

Corpus Christi Police Officers made contact with a 34 year old victim in the 1600 block of Agnes St. who stated that someone had broken into his truck at the mall and stole his IPAD and it was being tracked to an address on Morris Street. Officers went to the location and attempted to make contact with anyone inside the home, but the suspects inside refused to open the door. A search warrant was obtained on the residence and once inside of the home, officers found the stolen IPAD and placed Roberto Soliz (03/23/1977) under arrest. Also inside the home the officers located and arrested Jaime Perez (12/09/1972) who was wanted for an outstanding warrant.

Police Arrest Man for Aggravated Assault On Police on People’s Street

Corpus Christi Police arrested 21-year-old Nicolas Kuntscher (1/21/1993) for aggravated assault on a peace officer, theft, and evading arrest at People’s Street and Water Street Wednesday afternoon. Corpus Christi Police Detectives conducted surveillance on Kuntscher and observed Kuntscher commit a theft. Detectives moved to apprehend Kuntscher, but Kuntscher was able to get into a maroon 1999 Chevrolet Suburban and flee from the scene. While in flight in the vehicle, Detectives reported Kuntscher used his vehicle as a weapon in an attempt to injure Officers who attempted to apprehend Kuntscher. Kuntscher fled in the vehicle until Kuntscher crashed the vehicle at the 500 block of Clifford Street. Officers arrested Kuntscher and then took him for a medical evaluation before Officers delivered Kuntscher to the city detention center. No injuries were reported.

Police Locate 10 year old Boy Thanks to Public Help

A woman at 3002 Antelope Street reported the location of a runaway 10 year old boy to the Corpus Christi Police Tuesday evening. The 10 year old boy runaway from school on the 4400 block of Greenwood Drive Friday morning and had not been seen from guardians until the woman called Police Tuesday at 6:22pm after local media reported the story of the missing 10 year old boy. Corpus Christi Police collected the 10 year old boy and made sure he was unharmed, then returned him to his proper guardian. It was not reported how long the 10 year old boy was in the presence of the woman before she phoned Police or why he was at the particular location.

The Corpus Christi Police would like to thank the members in the community for the help to locate the boy safely.

General Information Announced About the Buc Days Parade #bucdays

Those that attend the Buc Days Illuminated Parade scheduled for Saturday, May 3, 2012 should be aware of a few guidelines to make the event fun and safe for everyone. Follow the Corpus Christi Police Twitter feed at @CorpusChristiPD for updates and progress of the parade.

The Parade route will close to traffic at 5:00pm. The parade route will start at the Buccaneer Stadium and follow Leopard Street to Schatzel Street. The Parade will then follow Schatzel to Water Street and then turn south on Water Street to Kinney Street. A map may be found on the Bucaneer Days website at http://bucdays.com/assets/pdf/2014NightParadeMap.pdf.

Street closures will include Leopard from Nueces Bay to Water Street; Buffalo Street will be closed between Nueces Bay to Palm Street; and Antelope will be closed between Nueces Bay to Palm.

Paraders are allowed to occupy their spot along the parade route starting at 5pm Friday. The open container ordinance remains in effect throughout the night. No one is allowed to block the public rights of way or entrances to private property and no one is permitted to be on private property without the owners consent.

There are a few prohibited items along the parade route. The use of any air horns, any Fireworks, Silly String, and impact firecrackers are all prohibited, so the public is encouraged to leave those items at home. Those that attend the parade are encouraged to bring trash containers to collect and remove their garbage. Everyone that attends should also be mindful of the City Ordinance Section 23-63 for littering in prohibited places.

The parade is a family event and there will be children enjoying the parade. Those that attend will be able to claim a spot on the parade route after 5:00pm on May 2. The Corpus Christi Police wants everyone to enjoy the parade and promote a safe environment for all that attend.

A 20-year-old woman reported an aggravated robbery at a fast food restaurant located at 10602 Interstate Highway 37 to the Corpus Christi Police Tuesday night. The 20-year-old woman told Officers a man and a woman entered the restaurant with masks that covered their faces and the man displayed a handgun. The 20-year-old woman told Officers the man demanded money from the register. The 20-year-old woman told Officers that she (the 20-year-old woman) and her 16-year-old co-worker ran from the store and were not injured. The two masked suspects left prior to law enforcement arrival and the 20-year-old woman told Officers she did not believe anything was taken by the suspects.

Corpus Christi Police arrested 20-year-old Frank Barrientes (12/14/1993) for stealing a box of condoms from a convenience store at 3002 McKinzie Road Wednesday morning. A 44-year-old store clerk reported a theft and explained to Officers that a man took a box of condoms valued at under $5 dollars and the man got into a white Nissan Sentra and left without paying for the merchandise. The 44-year-old man provided the license plate number to Officers. The Officers went to the registered address and found the Sentra. Officers contacted Barrientes and discovered evidence of the crime and learned Barrientes had a warrant for his arrest for burglary. Officers arrested Barrientes and delivered him to the city detention center.

Corpus Christi Police arrested 26-year-old Hector Gutierrez (9/7/1987) for possession of 3.5 pounds of marijuana Monday on the 2800 block of Santa Fe Street. A Corpus Christi Police Officer conducted speed enforcement at about 9pm Monday night. The Officer conducted a traffic stop when he saw a black 1995 Acura Integra travel faster that the posted speed limit. The Integra fled from the Officer, but once stopped, the Officer arrested the driver, Gutierrez for evading arrest and for operating a vehicle as an unlicensed driver. The Officer discovered 3.5 pounds of marijuana in the vehicle and Gutierrez was additionally charged. The Officer delivered Gutierrez to the city detention center and impounded the vehicle.

A 23-year-old pedestrian was struck by a vehicle in the intersection of Leopard Street and Navigation Boulevard Tuesday night. The 23-year-old man pushed a disabled black 2000 Honda Accord north on Navigation Boulevard through the intersection with Leopard Street at 8:22pm. A black Chevrolet Camaro operated by a 27-year-old man traveled east on Leopard Street and struck the Accord and the 23-year-old man. The 23-year-old man was transported to the hospital by ambulance for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. No citations were issued and no other injuries were reported.

Corpus Christi Police arrested two people for burglary at a storage lot located at 8041 South Padre Island Drive after the lot owner saw the action on surveillance video. A 31-year-old woman phoned the Corpus Christi Police and told the Police call taker that she had video monitoring of the storage lot displayed at her home and she saw a person cut a hole in the fence to enter the lot. The responding Officers found 30-year-old Robert Phillips (6/8/1983) hiding in the storage lot and found 40-year-old Laura Ybanez (1/3/1974) with a nearby vehicle. The Officers gathered evidence to support a criminal charge against Ybanez and Phillips, so the Officers arrested Phillips and Ybanez for burglary and delivered them to the city detention center.

Offense: Racing (Transportation Code Section 545.420) Class B Misdemeanor

Corpus Christi Police arrested 23-year-old Cameron Brown (9/17/1990) for racing, endangering a child, and driving while his license was suspended on the 2000 block of South Staples Street Monday evening. A Corpus Christi Police Officer was in the parking lot of a business at Six Points having completed a check of a falsely activated business alarm when the Officer heard the sound of engines and saw two vehicles at the stop light at Staples and Brown Lee Boulevard. The Officer then saw the two vehicles engage in a speed contest once the traffic light turned green. The Officer chased after the vehicles and saw the vehicles travel 70 miles per hour in a 35 mile per hour zone. The Officer caught up to one of the vehicles, a black 2009 Mercedes, and arrested the driver, Cameron Brown. The Officer saw a four-year old boy in the back seat without a child safety restraint. The Officer also learned that Brown had a suspended driver’s license. The Officer released the child and the vehicle to another family member and then delivered Brown to the city detention center.

Corpus Christi Police arrested 40-year-old Rosa Guillen (1/25/1974) for forgery of a financial instrument and for possession of a controlled substance on Mary Street Monday afternoon. A Corpus Christi Police Officer responded to a complaint of prostitution activity and investigated Guillen. The Officer discovered Guillen had identifying information and several credit cards for several different people along with other evidence of financial crimes. The Officer also discovered a crystal substance which the Officer believes is methamphetamine with Guillen so the Officer arrested Guillen for Forgery and for Possession of a controlled substance. The Officer then delivered Guillen to the city detention center.

Corpus Christi Police responded to a truck that got stuck off-road and started a fire near Sea Pines and El Socorro Loop on Padre Island Sunday afternoon. Large amounts of smoke went through the neighborhood and even across the Laguna Madre and into Flour Bluff. The Corpus Christi Fire Department extinguished the fire and found the truck stuck and burned. The Corpus Christi Police Officers found an 18-year-old man who was the passenger of the truck. The 18-year-old man identified the 18-year-old driver and owner of the truck. No injuries were reported and the only property damage reported was the truck which was a black 2014 Chevrolet Silverado pickup. The 18-year-old driver of the pickup fled the scene before law enforcement arrived and Officers had not located the 18-year-old driver of the truck by this report. The Officers are investigating the 18-year-old driver of the truck as a suspect in Criminal Trespass and Reckless Destruction.

Offense: Possession of a Controlled Substance (Health and Safety Code Section 481.115) State Jail Felony
Case Number: 1404270125

Corpus Christi Police arrested 36-year-old John Houston (2/15/1978) for possession of a controlled substance on the 5200 block of Weber Road Sunday afternoon. A Corpus Christi Police Officer conducted a traffic stop at 4:12pm after he saw Houston on the cell phone while driving on the 5200 block of Weber Road. The Officer discovered Houston had no license or proof of insurance for the vehicle. The Officer impounded the truck and discovered contraband which the Officer believed to be synthetic marijuana and cocaine. The Officer arrested Houston for possession of a controlled substance. The Officer also arrested the passenger, 27-year-old Eric Trevino (6/15/1986) for three warrants for his arrest and for failing to identify himself as a fugitive from justice. The Officer delivered Houston and Trevino to the city detention center.

Offense: Fraudulent Possession of Identifying Information (Penal Code Section 32.51) 3rd Degree Felony

Corpus Christi Police arrested two men for a burglary to a vehicle and fraudulent possession of identifying information at 3118 Baldwin Boulevard Sunday night. A 65-year-old woman reported the burglary to the Corpus Christi Police at 10:13pm. The 65-year-old woman explained to the Officers that she washed laundry at a Laundromat and noticed the dome light illuminated in her vehicle. The 65-year-old woman told Officers she went outside and saw a man take her purse from inside the vehicle and the man left. The 65-year-old woman described the suspect to Corpus Christi Police Officers and the Officers located 33-year-old Rene Vela (1/3/1981) and 30-year-old Ismael Lopez (5/30/1983), who matched the description, on Baldwin Boulevard. The Officers discovered evidence of the crime and arrested Vela for burglary and arrested Lopez for fraudulent possession of identifying information. The Officers then delivered Vela and Lopez to the city detention center.

Corpus Christi Police arrested 35-year-old Sedric Luckerson (11/29/1978) for burglary of a vehicle at 317 Peoples Street Monday morning. A 32-year-old man reported the burglary to the Corpus Christi Police at 6:37am and explained to the Officers that he walked his dog in the morning and saw a man take tools out of a truck which the 32-year-old man knew was owned by another person. The 32-year-old man described the suspect to the Officers and said the suspect ran from the scene before law enforcement arrived. Corpus Christi Police Officers found Luckerson at Lipan and Upper Broadway. The Officers discovered evidence of the crime and the arrested Luckerson and then delivered him to the city detention center for burglary of a vehicle.

Police Safely Apprehend Man Who Threatened to Jump Off Downtown Building

Corpus Christi Police prevented a 38-year-old man from jumping off the building at 101 North Upper Broadway Street Sunday night and took the 38-year-old man to the hospital to get him needed help. The Corpus Christi Police responded to a call of a man who threatened to jump form the 19th floor of the building at 5:37pm and a Patrol Officer established face to face dialog with the man at 5:45pm. The Corpus Christi Police Hostage Negotiation Team was paged to respond, but two of the team members were on duty and responded to continue dialog with the 38-year-old man. The man peacefully surrendered to Police at 6:18pm and agreed to go to the hospital for treatment. No injuries were reported. The supervisor at the scene spoke to the management of the building who said they will review the security and safety plan for the building to prevent this type of event in the future.
