Drugs, money, and firearm seized after warrant served

CharlesLFloresOfficers with the Corpus Christi Police Department’s Narcotic Vice Investigations Division along with the assistance of Gang Officers served a search warrant at 1205 Winnebago.  A search of the residence led to the seizure of a stolen firearm, 2.33 grams of crack cocaine and a cash seizure of $1419.

Charles Flores (01/06/83) was arrested and charged with Manufacture/Delivery of a Controlled Substance and Theft of a Firearm.  He was booked at the City Detention Center.

Police contacted Kimberly Kay Balboa (05/05/84) after she was found walking in the roadway.  A check revealed Balboa was wanted on an outstanding warrant.  As the officer was arresting Balboa, she swung at him and pulled free, running 50 to 60 feet before being captured.  She continued to punch and kick at the officer refusing to be arrested.

Balboa was tased, but continued to struggle with the officer.  She was taken into custody and arrested.  Balboa was charged with the Nueces County Probation Violation Warrant, Evading Arrest, Resisting Arrest, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and Possession of a Controlled Substance. The drugs charges stemmed from the crack cocaine and needles found in her purse.  Balboa was additionally charged with Assault on a Police Officer.

Man Celebrates Independence Day By Shooting Gun In Front Of Police Officer

Offense: Discharge a Firearm in a Municipality, Prohibited Weapon, and Unlawful Possession of a Firearm by a Felon

A 26-year-old man was arrested Friday morning for discharging a firearm in the Corpus Christi city limits after the man leaned out a window and shot a rifle in front of a police officer.

A Corpus Christi Police Officer heard gunshots at about 3:00am on the 1400 block of North Alameda and walked the street to investigate. The Officer then saw a man lean out an apartment window at 1510 Ramirez and shoot several shots from a rifle in the air. No person was struck by the gunfire.

The Officer went to the apartment and arrested 26-year-old Akeem Edwards (2/6/1987) for discharging a firearm in the municipality; a Class A misdemeanor punishable by up to a year in jail and up to a $4,000 fine. The firearm Edwards used was modified in an unlawful manner so Edwards was additionally charged with Prohibited Weapons, a 3rd degree felony punishable by up to 10 years in prison and up to a $10,000 fine. The Officer discovered Edwards also had previously been convicted of a felony offense, so Edwards was additionally charged with Possession of a Firearm by a Felon; also a 3rd degree felony punishable by up to 10 years in prison and up to a $10,000 fine.

No person was injured and no property damage was discovered. Edwards was then delivered to the city detention center.

Partnership Demolishes Seized Property

The Nuisance Abatement Team is composed of several different departments within the City of Corpus Christi, who have been collecting data on numerous problem properties within the city. These properties, which are ranked by priority, are identified through issues such as: criminal activity, public nuisance, quality of life issues for the neighborhood and substandard structures.

NAT strives to resolve these issues through steps that include: working with the property owner to rehabilitate the property, voluntary compliance by the owner to remove the problem structure and finally, seizure of the property, and demolition of the structure.

On July 02, 2013 the Nuisance Abatement Team demolished its first seized property at 2209 Coleman St.  This property, which was a burnt out structure, has been an ongoing problem for the Corpus Christi Police Department for criminal activity and a quality of life concern for the neighborhood.

A special thanks to Ram-Bro Contracting, Incorporated who has joined the cause to improve the quality of life for the residents of Corpus Christi. Ram-Bro, seeing, the importance of this type of community involvement has provided the equipment and manpower to demolish this structure at no cost to the City of Corpus Christi.

Corpus Christi Homicide/Robbery Detectives are investigating the kidnapping and sexual assault of a 24-year-old woman which occurred in the early morning hours of June 25, 2013.  The woman told police a man approached her as she arrived home and demanded her purse at knifepoint.  He then grabbed her and forced her into a red vehicle.

The man drove them to a parking lot at 3100 block of Ocean where he sexually assaulted the woman.  Detectives are looking for a Hispanic male, 20 to 30 years of age, 5’8 to 5’10” feet tall, and weighing 150 to 185 lbs.

Corpus Christi Police Detectives are asking the public’s assistance in identifying two men who robbed John’s Market on Friday, June 14th. The two men entered the store, one of men stood watch while the other man armed with a knife took the money from register. Both men fled the store and were last seen running East bound on Morgan.

One suspect is described as a Hispanic man, 25 to 35 years of age, 5’8″ to 5’10” feet tall, and weighing 230 to 250 lbs. The second suspect is also described as a Hispanic male, 25 to 35 years of age, 5’8″ to 5’10” feet tall, and weighing 220 to 240 lbs.

Police contacted the 29-year-old victim who reported being robbed at gunpoint at the Cactus Motel.  The man told Police the robber pointed a gun at his head and demanded his money.  The suspect took the victim’s money and fled on foot. The victim then walked to the Tin Can and called Police.

The suspect is described as a Black male, 20 to 30 years of age, 6’2” feet tall, and weighing 200 lbs. He was last seen wearing dark –colored clothing.

Police Seek Shooting Suspects

A 21-year-old man was taken to the hospital by ambulance for treatment of a gunshot wound he received on the 200 block of Adams Drive Wednesday night.

Corpus Christi Police were called to the 200 block of Adams Drive at 7:36pm for a shooting. Officers found a 21-year-old man at a residence with what appeared to be a gunshot wound. The 21-year-old man was transported to the hospital by ambulance for treatment of what are believed to be non-life threatening injuries.

Witnesses told Police a red four door car drove past the residence and discharged a firearm. Police are now searching for a red four door car with two Hispanic men. The Driver wore a black shirt and the passenger had tattoos on his right arm and neck and were last seen travelling south on Naples Street.

Police Capture Escaped Prisoner

An 18-year-old man escaped from a Corpus Christi Police Patrol car Wednesday afternoon but was apprehended seven minutes later downtown near Comanche Street and Tancahua Street.

Corpus Christi Police arrested 18-year-old Javier Garcia (7-16-1994) at the 4600 block of Hakel for an assault. A Patrol Officer transported Garcia toward the City Detention Center, but, at 12:30 this afternoon, Garcia was able to escape before he arrived at the Detention Center. Garcia was able to slip out of his handcuffs, reach through the open window of the patrol car to open the door and ran at the intersection of Carancahua Street and Lipan Street.

Garcia was apprehended seven minutes later nearby by the Corpus Christi Police Department. Garcia was additionally charged with escape from custody, a Class A Misdemeanor punishable by up to a year in jail and a $4,000 fine.
