Man Carjacked at Gunpoint, Claims Drugs Were Shoved into Pockets

Officers responding to the 1300 block of Beechcraft found a 27-year-old man in a bloody shirt and bleeding from a cut above his eye.  The victim told Officers he was at Greenwood Drive and Tarlton Street when he was car-jacked at gunpoint.   The suspect ordered the victim to drive through the neighborhood and stop in the 1000 block of Beechcraft.  Once there, he was dragged out of his vehicle and assaulted by a second armed man.

He was able to escape when one the men dropped his pistol, allowing him to kick it away.  He ran to the 2800 block of Soledad where he called police.   The man told Officers his wallet containing several thousand dollars was taken during the robbery.   He also claimed the suspects shoved drugs in his pocket.

During their investigation, Officers were unable to find the suspects, but did find the vehicle where the victim had left it.  Officers also found two packets containing Cocaine in the backseat of the police car in which the victim had been  sitting in.  The victim was not charged with the drugs, but could face possible drug possession charges.

Police report the suspects are two Black men, one of which is bald and 25 to 30 years of age.  The victim was unable to provide additional suspect information.   Anyone with any information on this crime is encouraged to call Crime Stoppers at 888TIPS or submit a tip online at www.888TIPS.com.  Tipsters will earn a cash reward if the suspects are arrested.

Man Attacked with Bat During an Argument with Two Women

Officers contacted a 21-year-old man who told them he was in his front yard when he became involved in an argument with two women.  During the argument, an unidentified man “jumped out of nowhere” and began hitting him with a bat.

The victim’s mother told Officers the two men continued fighting with one another as they made their through the front door into the kitchen. The victim told Officers he grabbed a kitchen knife and the man ran out of the residence.

Officers talked to the two women and both confirmed they argued with the victim, but denied an assault occurred.  Neither the victim, nor his mother were able to provide a description of the suspect.  The victim sustained a few scratches to the face, but refused medical treatment.

Neighbor Holds Dog for Ransom

On Tuesday morning, Officers contacted the victim who reported her two-year-old Rottweiler named “Capone” was stolen from her backyard.  The victim told Officers she kept a lock on the gate, but the padlock was cut and her dog stolen.

The victim’s sister had seen the dog at 3523 Colonial Court, but was unaware the dog had been stolen.  The sisters’ told Officers a man named “Craig” demanded she pay him $150 for the dog’s return.  The man also threatened to take the dog out of the county, if she refused to pay him.  The Officers checked the Colonial Court address, but “Craig” was no longer at the residence.

Later that evening, Police were again called to 3523 Colonial Court after Capone’s owner met with “Craig” at his residence.  The meeting did not go as planned and “Craig” continued to demand $150 for Capone’s return.  A friend who accompanied Capone’s owner became involved in an argument with “Craig” which escalated into a brief vehicle chase which ended when the victim’s friend struck the the suspect’s vehicle.  The victim claimed “Craig” had reversed and struck her truck.  A male passenger exited the vehicle and threw a brick at “Craig’s” truck shattering the rear window.  “Craig” grabbed a bat and smashed the victim’s truck window.

Officers reported all parties had different versions of the events which occurred and no one was arrested.  Capone was not at the residence and the investigation will continue into his “dognapping” and last night’s assault.

Restaurant Burglar Identified

Officers contacted the owner of the Hermanos Solis Restaurant who reported the business was burglarized overnight.  Once inside, the suspect forced his way into the office and disconnected the wires from what he thought was the video system.  The suspect pulled the wrong wires and the burglary was caught on video surveillance.  An older male could be seen on video taking the money from the register and the jukebox.

Property Crimes Detective G. Shipley obtained a copy of the video and distributed still images to all officers.  Senior Officer M. Thebeau sought out the burglar and located Patrick John Kimmelman (05/04/54) who was still wearing the same shorts and sandals.  Kimmelman agreed to speak to Detectives at the Police Department.  After meeting with Detective Shipley, Kimmelman was arrested and charged with Burglary of a Business.

Homeless Man Arrested for Abusing 911

Police and Fire personnel were dispatched to the convenience store at 2701 S. Port for a 911 call in which the victim claimed to have suffered a broken arm during an assault.  Upon their arrival, Officers were familiar with the “victim” Terry Lee Schumaker (04/17/60) and his claims of assault as he had been calling 911 and reporting the same crime since February of 2012.

Once CCPD and CCFD arrive Schumaker declines both medical and police assistance. Officers discovered Schumaker had reported the assault four times within the past week.

Schumaker was arrested and charged with False Report to a Police Officer/Law Enforcement Employee.

“What’s In Your Pocket?” I Don’t Know….

Roberto Carlos Cuellar

Officer S. Baldwin and Senior Officer T. Paddock pulled over a pick-up truck driven by Roberto Carlos Cuellar (09/28/87) for not having a front license plate.  During the traffic stop, the Officers could smell the odor of burnt Marijuana coming from the car’s ashtray.

During their investigation, Officers could see a bulge in Cuellar’s pocket.  When Officers asked what it was,  Cuellar denied knowing what was in his pocket and allowed Officers to remove it.  The  bulge was a baggie of  Marijuana  which landed Cuellar in jail.  He was booked at the City Detention Center and charged with Possession of Marijuana, a Class “B” Misdemeanor punishable by up to 180 days in jail and a $2,000 fine.

Man Jailed After Gun Found in Car

Officers pulled over a vehicle in the 5600 block of Leopard for a traffic violation.  Further investigation revealed a firearm underneath the passenger seat.  The passenger Steven Douglas Schad (09/18/88) was arrested and booked at the City Detention Center.  He was charged with Unlawful Possession of Firearm by a Felon when he was found to have a felony conviction.

Officers Surprise Trio as They Light Car on Fire

Gang Officers were conducting an investigation in the 3200 block of Agnes when they observed a vehicle turn out their lights and park at 100 Eleanor.  Three males got out of the vehicle armed with gas cans and began to pour gas onto a parked vehicle and a nearby building.  The Officers drove up to the three males as they ignited both the building and vehicle.

Officers caught all three juveniles as they fled back to their vehicle, taking them all by surprise.  Other Officers arrived and were able to use the fire extinguishers in their police cars to begin putting out the fires before CCFD’s arrival.

Further investigation revealed the three suspects were involved in an accident on September 15, 2012 involving a hit and run driver.  The accident escalated into disturbance involving the owner of the building and the vehicle.  The arson was the suspects’ retribution for the victim’s refusal to pay for damages and his lack of respect.

Joseph Maldonado (11/25/93) and Anthony Leal (04/23/95) were arrested along with a 16-year-old juvenile male.  The two adults were booked at the City Detention Center and the juvenile was booked at the Nueces County Juvenile Justice Center.  All three were charged with two counts of Arson and one count of Retaliation.

Daughter Asks For Help in Locating Missing Woman

The Corpus Christi Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Division would like your assistance in locating a local woman who has been missing since September 2nd, 2012.  Melinda Martinez’s daughter told Officers her mother, 46, suffers from mental health issues and is in need of her medication.

Her daughter is very concerned for her mother’s safety and would like the community’s help in finding her.  Melinda was last seen near City Hall where she was in the company of a Hispanic male.  She was wearing green shorts and a white t-shirt.

15-Year-Old Seriously Injured on Way to Friend’s House

Officers responded to an accident involving a pedestrian at the 2600 block of Ruth Street.  Further investigation revealed the 15-year-old on his way to a friend’s house stepped onto the roadway and was struck by a Chevrolet Trail Blazer traveling east bound on Ruth Street.  The teenager was administered CPR and medical care by both police officers and CCFD emergency personnel before being rushed to Spohn Memorial.  Officers report the teenager was admitted and currently in Critical Condition.

The teenager did not cross the street at a marked cross walk and the driver of the SUV will not be cited.  Although the accident was not in a school zone, the Police Department would like to remind the community to drive carefully throughout the day, especially before and after school.  The Safety Advisory Board recommends that motorist drive slower than the posted limit in poor conditions, particularly in the rain and fog.  Avoid making U-turns within school zones, and  never turn arround in driveways adjacent to schools or park within 20 feet of a cross walk.
