Patrol Report August 14, 2014

Offense: Evading (PC 38.04 Class A Misdemeanor)
Case Number: 1408140025
Corpus Christi Police Officers were dispatched to a business in the 5700 block of Leopard St. for a person outside that was acting aggressive toward customers entering and leaving the store. Officers found Lance Hawke (06/22/1969) there and they were attempting to take him into custody when he fled on foot. Officers caught up to him about a block away and arrested him for evading on foot, a Class A misdemeanor. The suspect was also issued a criminal trespass warning not to return to the store.

Offense: Driving While Intoxicated (PC 49.04 Class B Misdemeanor)
Case Number: 1408140015
Corpus Christi Police Officers responded to University St. and South Alameda St for a major crash involving a truck that had rolled over. Officers found a 1999 Toyota Tacoma truck entangled in a guide wire, and a telephone pole was cracked in half and being suspended in the air by the wires. The 24 year old male driver of the truck was determined to be intoxicated, and he was transported by CCFD EMS to Spohn Memorial Hospital to be treated for his injuries.
The crash investigation revealed that the suspect was alone in his truck traveling south on University Dr. toward S. Alameda St. when he struck a parked Chevrolet truck. The suspect continued driving at a high rate of speed and went through the intersection, crossing S. Alameda St. and struck a metal fence and the telephone pole across the street. The force of the crash caused the suspect vehicle to roll over onto its passenger side. The damage caused by the suspect is estimated to be over $5,000.00. The driver will face charges of driving while intoxicated, a class B misdemeanor, as well as several other traffic offenses after he is released from the hospital.

Offense: Possession of Marijuana (HS 481.121 Class B Misdemeanor)
Case Number: 1408130149
A Corpus Christi Police Officer on patrol observed a 2008 Mitsubishi Eclipse with an expired registration and inspection and stopped the car in the 1000 block of Airline Rd. The officer contacted the driver, Eli Rodriguez-Soliz (07/101992) who said that he did not have liability insurance on his vehicle. The officer was in the process of impounding the car when he found a backpack and inside it there was a plastic bag containing marijuana. Also in the backpack the officer found a “grinder” which is a device used to grind up marijuana and rolling papers. The driver was placed under arrest for possession of marijuana, a Class B misdemeanor and possession of drug paraphernalia, a Class C misdemeanor and his vehicle was impounded.

Offense: Burglary of a Habitation (PC 30.02 Second Degree Felony)
Case Number: 1408130095
Corpus Christi Police received a call from an 88 year old male victim in the 4300 block of Carlton Street about a suspect who had kicked in the back door of his home. The victim told officers he was inside the house when he heard somebody banging on the back door. He then retrieved his handgun, and his wife exited the house through the front door. The male suspect broke the door and walked inside and saw the armed homeowner and took off running. The suspect exited that house and ran into another house next door. The 30 year old homeowner there said that he and his four children were inside his home and that the suspect forced his way into the residence through the front door and then ran into a back bedroom and locked himself inside. The home owner said that he had locked his children in a second bedroom in the house. Officers had to use force to open the bedroom door and inside they found the male suspect trying to hide beside the bed in the room. Officers arrested Robert Rodriguez (03/14/1987) and he was charged with two counts of burglary of a habitation, a second degree felony for breaking into the two homes. The suspect also had an outstanding warrant for his arrest. The four children found in the second bedroom were not injured.

Corpus Christi Police Officers responded to a child that had nearly drowned while taking a bath inside an apartment in the 1700 block of Treyway Lane. A 23 year old female mother told officers that she was giving her 7 month old boy a bath in a baby bath seat. Her one year old child started crying from the living room and she went to go check on the child. When she returned to the bath tub, she noticed that the baby chair had fallen on its side and her baby was in the water. CCFD EMS responded and the baby was transported to the hospital in critical condition. Corpus Christi Police Detectives are investigating this case, and at this time no charges have been filed.

Offense: Crash Investigation
Case Number: C1403196 / C1403197
A 45 year old man that was crossing the 3600 block of Ayers Street in a pedestrian crosswalk was struck by a 1998 Dodge Ram truck that was traveling north on Ayers St. The 68 year old male driver of the truck told officers he saw the pedestrian but thought he was able to clear him as he passed by. The pedestrian was transported to Spohn Memorial Hospital by CCFD EMS with non-life threatening injuries. The driver of the truck was cited with failing to yield the right of way to a pedestrian in a crosswalk. While investigating this crash, officers heard people yelling from behind a business in the 3600 block of Ayers St. Officers discovered that a 7 year old boy had run into the parking lot from behind the back wall of the business and his foot was run over by a passing 1999 Chevrolet Suburban driven by a 63 year old man. The child suffered a possible broken foot and was transported to Driscoll Children’s Hospital by CCFD EMS. No charges are expected to be filed in this case.

Offense: Possession of Controlled Substance (HS 481.115 Second Degree Felony)
Case Number: 1408110181
A Corpus Christi Police Officer on patrol in the 5800 block of Kostoryz Rd. saw a silver 2007 Dodge Charger with very loud music playing. The officer could feel the bass and could hear the loud music which was over 100 feet away from him. The car was turning into a neighborhood in the 5700 block of Crestmore St. when he stopped the car and contacted the driver Angela Hernandez (11/24/1980). The female driver was found to have a suspended driver’s license and the officer went to impound the car. At that time, he observed two clear plastic bags in an opening in the back of the gear shift box near the center console. Inside the plastic bag, the officer discovered 19.6 grams of cocaine. The female suspect was arrested for possession of a controlled substance, a second degree felony and driving with license invalid, a Class C misdemeanor and her vehicle was impounded.

Offense: Aggravated Robbery (PC 29.03 First Degree Felony)

Corpus Christi Police Officers responded to an armed robbery at a business located in the 3200 block of Gollihar Rd. Three employees were working inside when two suspects entered the dining room of the restaurant. .Both suspects were armed with handguns and upon entering the restaurant they split up. They each rounded up employees and met up again behind the cash registers. They then confronted the two male employees and forced them to the safe area. While holding the employees at gun point the suspects removed deposit bags from the safe taking an undetermined amount of money. The suspects then ordered all the employees onto the floor and exited the restaurant through the east side door and left on foot. The suspects were described as two black males wearing black hoody tops, black shorts, and they had black bandanas covering their faces. They are both believed to be in their thirties, standing from 5`10″ to 6`00″ tall with thin builds. One of the suspects had a lighter skin color with a tattoo near the left eye. Corpus Christi Police Detectives are investigating this case and no suspects have identified and no one has been arrest. Corpus Christi Police Detectives are investigating the death of a 6 month old female after her 21 year old mother called police about her baby not breathing. Officers found the baby unconscious and not breathing and she was transported to Driscoll Children’s Hospital by CCFD EMS. The investigation revealed that the 22 year old father, the mother, and another 7 year old male along with the baby were all taking a nap on one bed. When they woke up they found the baby unresponsive. The baby was not able to be revived. This case is still under investigation, and at this time no charges have been filed, and no arrest have been made.

A 57 year old male was pronounced dead on arrival at Bay Area Hospital after he was pulled out of the canal behind his home by three Corpus Christi Police Officers. The investigation revealed that the male victim and his 62 year old wife were at home expecting two guests to arrive when the male went outside to start a boat that they owned. While trying to start the boat that was on a lift, the female inside heard a loud splash and went outside turned on the light and observed the male floating face down, between the boat and the dock. The female could not reach him so she called 9-1-1 and then went out front to flag down any passersby that could possibly help. The first people she saw were the friends that were coming over, a 32 year old male and his 29 year old wife. They were unable to get the male out of the water until officers arrived.

Corpus Christi Police Officers were dispatched to a business in the 4100 block of Brett Street after the manager of the business called to report two males and a female had all gone into one restroom together and were not coming out. By the time officers arrived all three had left the business but left behind evidence of drug use in the restroom trash can. Officers were given a description of the three suspects and found them a short distance from the business walking down Weber Rd. The officers found one of the suspects, Joshua Molinar (03/08/1985), had an outstanding arrest warrant for credit card abuse and he was arrested. The other two were released.

Offense: Silent / Abusive Calls to 911 (PC 42.061 Class B Misdemeanor)
Case Number: 1408110004
Corpus Christi Police Officers were dispatched to an apartment in the 1900 block of Sixteenth St. after a person in the apartment made 445 incomplete calls to 911 in one day. Once at the apartment officers contacted Nathan Wood (05/07/1980) who told them he did not own a phone anymore. Officers did locate a phone in the apartment under the couch and while they were speaking to him, his phone was still connected to a 911 operator. The suspect was arrested for making silent abusive calls to 911 services, a Class B Misdemeanor and his cell phone was tagged as evidence.

CCPD Investigating Ruth Street Homicide

OFFENSE: Murder (PC19.02 First Degree Felony)

At 6:39 AM, Saturday morning, Corpus Christi Police Officers responded to a suspicious person call at a home located at 2222 Ruth Street.

A 15 year old male called police after he went outside of his house and saw a man lying on the ground. Officers found a 29 year old male victim down a driveway on the east side of the house underneath the stairway leading to an upstairs apartment. The victim had multiple gunshot wounds and was dead at the scene.

Officers were able to contact several witnesses who heard gunshots in the area at about 10:00 PM on Friday night. Corpus Christi Police Officers responded to a call for shots fired at 10:08 PM on Friday night in that area and did recover an unfired bullet, and at this time it is unknown if that evidence is related to the homicide. Officers did not see the victim at that time due to the darkness and the victim’s position.

At this time Corpus Christi Police Homicide Detective are investigating this crime and no suspects have been arrested.

Offense: Burglary of a Vehicle (PC 30.04 Class A Misdemeanor)

Corpus Christi Police Officers were on patrol when they observed a suspicious male walking in the 600 block of Airline Rd. attempting to conceal an object he was carrying. Officers contacted Issac Coleman (10/10/1993) and found him to be in possession of a car radio. Officers were able to find a blue GMC truck parked in front of a home in the 6800 block of Monette St. that was unlocked and missing a car stereo and had wires sticking out of the dash. Officers contacted the 49 year old male owner of the truck who confirmed that the radio was from his vehicle. The property was returned to the owner, and the suspect was arrested for burglary of a vehicle, a Class A misdemeanor.

Offense: Sexual Assault (PC 22.011 Second Degree Felony)

Corpus Christi Police Detectives obtained two felony arrest warrants in connection to a sexual assault of a child on Roberto Coleman (12/14/1982) early yesterday afternoon. Patrol officers went to his home address in the 4900 block of Chatfield Rd. a short time later and arrested him without incident. One of the warrants issued was for aggravated sexual assault of a child the other was a warrant for indecency with a child. Both warrants have separate bonds of $250,000 each.

Offense: Robbery (PC 29.02 Second Degree Felony)

A 33 year old male victim called Corpus Christi Police and said he had taken money out from a bank ATM at Doddridge St. and Alameda St. and returned to his apartment in the 3300 block of South Alameda St. The victim said he had been home for only a short time when his front door was forced open and a male come into his apartment. The victim attempted to run into his bathroom to get away from the suspect but he forced his way in before the victim could get the door closed. The victim said he was assaulted and the suspect made demands to give him the money. The suspect left the apartment once the victim turned over the money. The victim thinks that the suspect may have followed him from the ATM to his apartment. The suspect is described as a black male, about 25 to 30 years old, between 5`6”and 5`9” tall and about 150 pounds, with short black hair. He was last seen wearing a black and red shirt with white or silver shorts. CCFD EMS responded and treated the victim, but he declined to be taken to the hospital. Officers are still investigating this case, and no suspects have been arrested.

Offense: Driving While Intoxicated (PC 49.04 Class B Misdemeanor)

Corpus Christi Police Officers were on patrol when a store clerk told them that a male had just stole a twelve pack of beer from the store and left in a truck. Officers spotted the dark colored 2013 Toyota Tundra leaving the parking lot going west on S. Padre Island Dr. Officers stopped the truck and contacted the driver Zachary Dintelman (06/10/1986), and front passenger Clinton Newell (01/20/1992). The front seat passenger was identified as the suspect who had stolen the beer, and he was also found to be intoxicated. He was arrested for public intoxication and theft, both Class C misdemeanors. The driver was also found to be intoxicated and he was arrested for driving while intoxicated, a Class B misdemeanor. During a search of his truck, officers found a handgun in the center console and also evidence of marijuana usage in the driver side door. He was additionally charged with unlawful carrying of a weapon, a Class A misdemeanor and possession of drug paraphernalia, a Class C misdemeanor and is truck was impounded.

Offense: Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon (PC 22.02 Second Degree Felony)

A 20 year old male victim reported to Corpus Christi Police Officers that he and his 18 year old girlfriend were walking west on Manshiem Blvd. near Ingram Dr. when a male approached them and asked him to see a knife that was clipped to the side of his pocket. The victim showed it to him and the suspect then asked if he had any synthetic marijuana and the victim told the suspect that he did not. The suspect then opened the knife and demanded the victims backpack. The victim was able to hold onto his property, but then the suspect stabbed the victim on the left side of his wrist causing a large deep gash. The suspect dropped the knife and also dropped the backpack he had forced from the victim and he took off running south on Ingram Dr. The suspect was described as a hispanic male in his twenties with a mustache and goatee wearing black shorts and a black beanie. CCFD EMS transported the victim to the hospital for treatment. Officers are still investigating this case, and no suspects have been arrested.

Corpus Christi Police Officers responded to the Bealls Store located at 3725 Leopard St. for a theft. The manager advised a bald hispanic male left the store without paying for over $150 in merchandise. The manager also believes that a female who was there with the male came into the store to distract employees. There was also another female in a vehicle waiting for the couple. Video images from the stores surveillance cameras show the male who stole the items and the female who was there to help him. Anyone who can identify the individuals responsible for this theft, or has any additional information about this crime should call the Corpus Christi Police Property Crimes Detectives at 886-2840. Offense: Aggravated Robbery (PC 29.03 First Degree Felony)

A 27 year old male victim told Corpus Christi Police Officers that a suspect that he knows robbed him at gun point while he was walking home on Leopard St. The victim said he was on Leopard St. near Violet Rd. when a vehicle the suspect was riding in picked him up. The suspect was in the back seat, the victim got in the front passenger seat and the driver was another male that the victim had seen before. The victim said that the back seat suspect was making claims that the victim stilled owed him money and then pulled a black semi-automatic pistol out and pointed it at the victim. The suspect demanded the victim’s wallet and then was taken to his home in the 4200 block of Nolford Place. The suspect made threats to go inside the victim’s house, but left the area when the victim told him there were other people inside. Officers are still investigating this case, and no suspects have been arrested.

A 51 year old male victim reported that as he pulled into the driveway of his home in the 800 block of N. Omaha Dr. he noticed that the front door was open. He then saw a male run out of the front door and he chased the male on foot but lost him. The victim described the suspect male as being 5`9’ tall, about 170 pounds in his mid-thirties with a short haircut and a mustache. The victim told officers that his home had been ransacked and he found his microwave, and window air conditioner sitting outside near the front door. The victim said the suspect did get away with approximately $75 in various groceries from the kitchen. At this time officers are still investigating this crime and no suspects have been arrested.

Offense: Driving While Intoxicated (PC 49.04 Class B Misdemeanor)
Case Number: 1408070004
Corpus Christi Police responded to the 500 block of Carson St. for a traffic accident with injuries. They found a 2007 silver Ford Escape had struck a concrete pillar of a home and the 21 year old female driver inside the vehicle. The female was the sole occupant of the vehicle and was still sitting in the driver`s seat refusing to get out. CCFD EMS arrived and convinced the female to exit her vehicle in order to be treated for some cuts to her face. The female was found to be intoxicated. The crash investigation revealed that the female was attempting to turn from S. Alameda onto Carson St. when she lost control of her vehicle, and it went over a curb, cut across a flower garden and then hit a stucco wall in the garden before striking a cement pillar of the home. Damage to the home was estimated to be over $10,000. The female was taken to the hospital to be treated for a broken ankle.

Corpus Christi Police Officers responded to an alarm at a business located in the 5300 block of Everhart Rd. and found the front window was broken. Officers found a large rock inside that had been used to break the glass and it appears the suspect went to the cash register to check for money. Damage was estimated to be over $200 for the broken window, and it is unknown if any cash was removed from the register. At this time officers are still investigating this crime and no suspects have been arrested.

Offense: Aggravated Robbery (PC 29.03 First Degree Felony)
Case Number: 1408070020
A 21 year old male victim called police from an apartment complex located in the 4600 block of Ocean Drive and said he had been stabbed at his residence located in the 6oo block of Louisiana Parkway. The male victim said that a black male, that he knew, approached him and said, “What`s up Smooth?” The male then pulled out a pocket knife and started stabbing the victim. During the assault, the male suspect grabbed the victim’s necklace and bracelet and fled the scene in a silver vehicle. The victim sustained a puncture under his right arm and left arm but refused to be taken to the hospital. Officers could not locate a crime scene on Louisiana Parkway. At this time officers are still investigating this crime and no suspects have been arrested.

The Corpus Christi Police Department is asking for the public’s assistance in helping them locate a wanted person. David Estrada (08/17/1994) is wanted on an outstanding arrest warrant for robbery. He is 5’10 and 150 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes. There is a $60,000 bond set on the warrant.

A 28 year old female reported to Corpus Christi Police that she was assaulted by her boyfriend of several months Jonas Ventura-Garcia (09/29/1981). The victim told officers she was choked by the male inside her apartment and also stated that she had a knife put to her stomach and the male threatened to stab her. The female said that the male arrived home and a verbal argument began over why the female had been out earlier. The verbal disturbance turned physical when the female was thrown on the couch and the male began to choke her. The male then pull out a pocket knife that he was carrying and pointed the blade at her abdomen. The victim declined EMS attention at the scene and the suspect was arrested aggravated assault, a second degree felony.

Corpus Christi Police responded to a stabbing at a business located in the 10500 block of S. Padre Island Drive and found a 26 year old male victim with a stab wound to his arm. The victim told officers he was walking in front of the business when he was confronted by Brian Williams (04/10/1974) who yelled out at him and when he turned the suspect stabbed him with a broken beer bottle on the left arm once and then once on the left side of the face. The suspect then ran from the location and was later located by officers hiding behind a grocery store just down the street. The victim was transported to the hospital and the suspect was taken to the City Detention Center and charged with aggravated assault, a second degree felony.

Corpus Christi Police Officers responded to a suspicious person call at a trailer park located in the 5900 block of Ayers Street and found Eric Garza (09/04/1980) crouching behind a vehicle that was parked in front of one of the trailers. When officers contacted the suspect, and checked the area where the suspect had been hiding they located a clear plastic baggie containing methamphetamine on the ground. The suspect was arrested for possession of a controlled substance, a state jail felony and issued a criminal trespass warning for the property.

Corpus Christi Police Officers responded to a call about a female who had kicked in a door and was causing damage to a motel room located in the 9400 block of S. Padre Island Dr.  Officers arrived and saw that the female had picked up a television and had thrown it to the ground and had pulled off the front cover of the air conditioning unit and she threw it at the officer as he entered the room. The cover missed the officer but hit the front window to the room and shattered it. The officer placed Christina Richards (10/17/1977) under arrest and found out she had force her way into the hotel room after she and a male friend had got into a verbal argument outside.  The suspect female was kicking and banging on the door trying to get in and when they did not open the door for her, she picked up a large butcher knife that was on a table outside and began stabbing at the door and continued to kick it until she finally forced it open. The female entered the room with the knife and another male attempted to step in front of her to try to block her from going after anyone. The female made threats while she had the knife in her hand and forced her way pass him and went into the bathroom where she thought the other male was hiding.  The male told officers the female stabbed the door with such force that it broke the handle off the knife. The male that the female was upset with was never contacted as he had left the area prior to police arrival. The suspect was charged with aggravated assault, a second degree felony for making threats with the knife, and criminal mischief, a Class A misdemeanor for damaging the motel room.

Corpus Christi Police Officers responded to Northwest Hospital for a walk in shooting victim. Officers contacted a 25 year old male who said he was fishing at Labonte Park on the Nueces River when he saw a large alligator gar. He ran to his 2011 Dodge Challenger and got a handgun and somehow shot himself in the hand. Officers advised that the victim appeared to be under the influence of alcohol. He was treated for his injured hand and released.

Corpus Christi Police, Fire and EMS responded to a crash at the intersection of Airline Rd. and Wooldridge Rd. The crash investigation revealed that a 2012 red Jeep was traveling north on Airline Rd. when a 2007 Nissan Sentra sedan, driven by a 21 year old female ran a red light while traveling east on Wooldridge Rd. The sedan struck the Jeep in the driver’s side door and the force of the impact caused the Jeep to roll three times. The 28 year old pregnant female and a 4 year old male in the Jeep were both transported to a hospital by CCFD EMS for injuries. The driver of the Nissan was issued a citation for running the red light, and her vehicle was impounded because she did not have liability insurance.

Corpus Christi Police Officers were looking for wanted person, Rolando Avalos (09/15/1974), at a home in the 2400 block of Cleo St. when they saw him through a window in the back bedroom. As officers made entry into the home the wanted male came out the window and attempted to run past two officers. The male resisted arrest and there was a struggle on the ground with the male and the two officers. The officers gained control of the male and were escorting him back to the police unit when he pushed off the patrol unit with his body and he was able to break free and take off running on foot. After a short foot pursuit, one of the officers was able to catch up to him. The male continued to resist arrest and caused the officer to fall to the ground and strike her head on the pavement. While the officer was still on the ground, the male violently kicked the officer in her side and back. Other officers arrived and after another brief struggle they were able to take the suspect into custody. CCFD EMS responded to the scene to treat the injured officer. The suspect was charged with the four original warrants he had outstanding for his arrest as well as evading arrest on foot, a Class A misdemeanor, resisting arrest, a Class A misdemeanor, and assault on a peace office, a third degree felony.

Two Corpus Christi Police Officers responding to an emergency call were taken to the hospital after the patrol car they were in was struck by a vehicle at the intersection of Port Ave. and Tarlton St. The crash investigation revealed that the officers were traveling south on Port Ave. when they were struck by a 2001 Buick sedan going west on Tarlton St. The Buick was driven by an 18 year old female who also had three other passengers in her car. The female was issued a traffic citation for fail to yield the right of way to an emergency vehicle, and no driver license.  No one in the Buick was injured. The officers were treated and released.
