TWO OFFICERS PLACED ON PAID ADMINISTRATIVE LEAVE

Two Corpus Christi Police Officers have been placed on paid administrative leave due to their involvement in the officer involved shooting.   This incident occurred in the early morning hours of April 04, 2018.  The administrative leave is in accordance with current  department practice and policy.

Senior Officer Gilbert Cantu has been a police officer with the Corpus Christi Police Department for 6 years.  Officer Gabriel Cantu has been a police officer with the Corpus Christi Police Department for 5 years.

Home Invasion Robbery/Officer Involved Shooting

CCPD Units were dispatched to a residence in the 2300 block of Capitan Drive at about 12:30 A.M. on Wednesday 04/04/2018.  A  female caller was reporting that several men had forced their way into an apartment and at least one of the men was armed with a long gun.  The first arriving Officers confronted the offenders as they were leaving the apartment and one armed offender was shot by police.  He died at the scene.    A 25 year old male was taken into custody and another male, believed to be 20-30 years of age, fled the scene on foot.  He was last seen fleeing north from the scene.  Units are currently searching the area for this offender.

Further investigation revealed that the offenders physically assaulted several residents of the apartment before the police arrived and the offenders were also in the process of taking property from the victims.  A least one firearm used by the offenders was recovered at the scene.

This is an ongoing investigation being conducted by the Corpus Christi Police Criminal Investigation Division and the Nueces County District Attorneys Office.   Numerous victims and witnesses are being interviewed at this time.  Two Corpus Christi Police Officers are being placed on paid administrative leave at this time in accordance with department practice and policy.

POLICE NEED YOUR HELP TO LOCATE MISSING DISABLED TEEN

UPDATE: Jonathan has been found safe and is back with his family.

Corpus Christi Police Officers would like help from the public to locate a missing, disabled teen.

Jonathan Galvan was reported missing on April 1, 2018 and was last seen approximately one hour ago.   Jonathan is a special needs child and has the mentality of a 5-year-old.
Jonathan was last seen walking away from a business in the 4700 block of Ayers.  Jonathan is described as a 16-year-old male who stands 5 feet 10 inches tall, approximately 135 pounds, with dark brown hair and brown eyes.  Jonathan was last seen wearing a green or blue polo shirt, which was tucked in, blue jeans and a belt.

Patrol Report March 28, 2018

Date: March 27, 2018 4:49 P.M.
Location: Mustang Trail and S. Staples
Offense: Accident Involving Injury or Death
Case Number: 1803270113

Corpus Christi Police Officers were dispatched to the area of S. Staples and Mustang Trail for a crash involving pedestrians. Officers arrived and found that a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed ran a red light and struck two teenaged females in the crosswalk. The suspect, driving a sliver Jeep, briefly stopped in the area and then fled the scene. A witness at the scene was able to get a license plate number, vehicle description and a suspect description. A 16 year old female died at the scene and the 15 year old female was transported to a local hospital for treatment of her injuries.

Officers followed up on the information that was provided to them by the witness. They went to the area of 4100 Tarpon Place and located the suspect vehicle and the suspect. Officers took the 42 year old male suspect into custody and transported him to a hospital for treatment. Once cleared officers arrested Elton Wayne Holmes Jr. (12-19-1975) and transported him to the City Detention Center.

Corpus Christi Police Officers were dispatched to La Palmera Mall in reference to a robbery. Officers arrived and made contact with the employees. The employees advised that 4 suspects, wearing dark clothing and masks came into the store. Two suspects broke the display counters and the other two with guns ordered the employees to the ground. The suspects fled the scene in a red pickup truck. A witness told officers that he saw the suspects enter the truck and flee the scene. Officers were advised that a Constable had found the suspect vehicle unoccupied on Mt. Vernon St. Officers searched the area but were unable to locate the suspects.

Corpus Christi Police would like help from the public to locate a missing, elderly person. Jim Kirksey was reported missing on March 21, 2018.  Mr. Kirksey suffers from Dementia and is in need of medical assistance.
Jim was last seen in the area of Memorial Medical Center around 6 am this morning.  Mr. Kirksey is described as an 82-year-old male, who stands 6 feet 2 inches tall, approximately 190 pounds, with white hair and blue eyes.  Mr. Kirksey was last seen wearing a blue and white checkered shirt, blue jeans and Sperry brand shoes.

Corpus Christi Detectives are asking for your help to locate 31-year-old Ismael Castillo (01/11/1987) who has three outstanding warrants for his arrest.   Castillo is wanted for Murder ($375,000 Bond), Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon ($375,000 Bond), along with a warrant out of San Patricio County for UUMV ($200,000 Bond).

Castillo is described as a 31-year-old male who stands 6 feet tall, weighs approximately 240 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes.  Castillo has a tattoo on the right side of his face, one on the left side of his face and one on the nape of the neck.

Police Need your Help Identifying a Vehicle of Interest

Corpus Christi Police Detectives need your help identifying a vehicle of interest in an attempted kidnapping incident. Officers contacted a school crossing guard in the area of Hampshire and Lantana. The crossing guard was with a 11 year old female who was crying and visibly upset. The female victim advised when she was at the bus stop at Villa and Leopard a dark skinned male in a white passenger car called to her from the vehicle. The victims bus arrived and the suspect left. The victim advised while she was on the bus she noticed the suspects car was following the bus. When the victim exited the bus in the area of Lantana and Leopard the same suspect tried to make contact with her and motioned for her to get in his car. The victim ran away and made contact with the crossing guard who then contacted the police.

ARREST MADE IN DEATH OF 8 MONTH OLD CHILD

Event:  Criminally Negligent Homicide

Corpus Christi Police responded to a call on the 2000 block of Jasmin Court for an unconscious infant.

Updates to the call provided that a male resident in the home had fallen asleep in the bathtub with the baby on his chest.  Officers arrived and attempted to perform CPR on the child until Medics from the Corpus Christi Fire Department arrived on scene and took custody of the child.  The 8-month-old child was transported to Driscoll Children’s Hospital where he was pronounced deceased.

As a result of the investigation which was conducted by Detectives, Bryan Matamoros (07/29/1996), was arrested and charged with Criminally Negligent Homicide.  This case is still active and ongoing and no other details will be released at this time.
